Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast Andor Maul Shadow Lord The Dark Revenge and Sinister Schemes14 Apr 202600:39:27

Maul: Shadow Lord – The Dark Revenge and Sinister Schemes

Howdy, spacefarers. I am glad I decided to write this and record an episode when we did. What initially started out as unbridled joy became intense pain.

Darth Maul is not a character. He is a character design. That’s all.

It took me a week to realize this after watching both episodes of Disney’s latest series, Maul: Shadow Lord.

Think back to even before the theatrical release of The Phantom Menace. You had magazine covers with Maul’s face. He looked cool, evil, alien, etc. Then, about one-third of the way through the movie, we are introduced to Darth Maul via Sidious. Zero dialogue. Just menacing looks.

That’s not a character.

Yes, we understand Sidious is ultimately manipulating everything behind the scenes, but how does Maul fit in?

He does not.

So what did George Lucas do with this interesting design? Well, he retconned him, of course—which was completely unnecessary. You could have told the story of Maul’s training by Sidious, and it would have been just as good of a series. You did not need to go back and give him a brother in Savage Opress or a mother in Talzin.

It could have just been about when Sidious found him and trained him, and all of their plans, which would eventually culminate in what we saw in The Phantom Menace. No longer could they hide their machinations from both the Galactic Senate and the Trade Federation. Thus, Sidious orders his apprentice out of the shadows to eliminate the prying eyes of the Jedi or any other interlopers.

When Darth Bane and Darth Zannah went about their plans to dominate the galaxy, the Rule of Two was instituted to limit the number of rivals to ultimate power. In addition, all actions would be concealed several times over through the use of intermediaries, criminal organizations, etc.

All the while, those in power have no idea who is actually pulling the strings.

Anyway, I am still looking forward to the show. I definitely need to review Maul’s story arc in The Clone Wars and Rebels.

Thanks for listening.

Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast Visions Volume Three The Duel: Payback14 Jan 202600:38:23

And we're back! Apologies for the long wait between episodes. I have been trying to wrangle cats together so we can continue the podcast.Fortunately, life got in the way. Not in a bad way of course. I recently got married. AJ and his wife had their second baby. Life is good. You know what else is good? Star Wars Visions. Especially this season. For those unfamiliar, Disney took the license and went to the far east. Though I am unfamiliar with the studios they chose, the results speak for themselves. What were produced were completely original story lines and characters with some of the most unique animation styles to come from the island. Yes, volume one is clearly anime from Japan. Volume two includes the likes of the creators of Wallace and Gromit. Volume three marks the return of some of the first studios that were approached. By far, my favorite episode of volume one was the first, "The Duel." The animation pays homage to Akira Kurosawa with the Japanese aesthetic and being animated mostly black and white. Not to mention the rogue Sith's lightsaber drawn from it's scabbard much the way a samurai would. Back then, my criticism for all episodes was that each had some sort of lightsaber gimmick. While it was cool to see Darth Maul ignite his double-bladed lightsaber in 1999 and later Kylo Ren with his cross-guard lightsaber, there has been an explosion of goofy and impractical designs. One only has to watch a few episodes of the much hated Acolyte to see what I am talking about. We hope you liked this episode of visions as much as we did. My brother and I disagreed about one of the characters. What are your thoughts? Thanks for listening, and may the Force be with you.

Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast The Acolyte S1 E1 Lost/Found08 Oct 202400:38:07

Howdy, spacefarers! Apologies for the delay in posting—September got away from me. My goal is to publish at least once a month, but life had other plans. Luckily, I convinced the wonderful Sydney to join me and share her thoughts on the latest addition to the Star Wars Disneyverse!

It's been a while since The Acolyte aired its last episode. By now, you probably know the show was canceled. If I had recorded this earlier, that news might have been a surprise. However, given the backlash, it's not shocking. At the time of writing, the show holds a 4.1 on IMDb, and the fan and critic ratings on Metacritic are split—3.2 from fans and 67 from critics.

Despite the negative press, I urge you to watch The Acolyte and form your own opinion. If you don’t like it, let me know why! That’s more than my co-host, AJ, who hasn’t even watched the show but still decided it sucked. What’s he basing that on? Probably all the controversy surrounding the creator and the show's lukewarm reception. At least give it a chance and see for yourself rather than relying on hearsay.

Rewatching the first episode, I noticed a lot of foreshadowing I missed the first time around. For example, Mae’s black eyes really creeped me out during the second watch. Also, it’s fascinating to see how the creators attempted to expand the Star Wars universe just 100 years before The Phantom Menace.

Unfortunately, many elements feel familiar, such as the Neimoidians on the cargo ship where Osha, our protagonist, works as a mechanic. Of course, more CGI shots of Coruscant were included—because what Star Wars property would be complete without it? As much as I understand that Coruscant is central to the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Temple, I wish Disney didn’t stick to their 80/20 formula for Star Wars. It means we’re seeing a lot of the same things to keep fans happy.

This “safe” approach has been a critique since The Force Awakens—where a young, poor individual from a desert planet embarks on a journey, hops on the Millennium Falcon, meets Han Solo and Chewbacca, and destroys a giant space station. We’ve seen this before! While there are new characters, there’s still so much unexplored in the Star Wars universe, including planets and biomes that deserve screen time.

Sigh... I guess we should be thankful we’re still getting new Star Wars movies, shows, and content. You don’t always get what you love, but sometimes, you’ve got to love what you get.

Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast The Acolyte S1 E6 Teach \ Corrupt04 Aug 202400:36:13

Howdy friends! Another episode in the bag. Of course, my lovely brother was kind enough to grace me with his presence.

This episode was mid. Not terrible, not great. You can definitely see the writers are beginning to drag out some of the plotlines.

Yes, this does help create more mystery. However, it annoyed me more than it intrigued me. You have Osha and Mae. One is trained as a Jedi but doesn't make it. The other is trained by something. Is "The Stranger" (Qimir) a Sith or an Acolyte? What is an Acolyte? Not sure if we're going to find the answer.

This episode is broken up into thirds. Osha and Mae have swapped places. Mae, disguised as Osha, is now with Sol. Osha, disguised as Mae, is taken by Qimir aka "The Stranger" (according to Wookiepedia) and is now on an "unknown planet."

Master Vernestra leaves Coruscant with another cohort of Jedi to find Sol and his team, who were supposed to bring in Mae. All the while, Sol and Mae are onboard the ship with the tracker. Shortly after they take off, Mae has the opportunity to kill Sol, but he eventually discovers her.

He then binds her, and they jump to hyperspace and return to Brendok. At the same time, Master Vernestra arrives at Khofar. She begins to unravel what happened here.

We don't really learn much in this episode. The best parts were with Osha and Qimir. We learn why his armor could temporarily nullify a lightsaber. Other than that, we ended pretty much as we started. I'm distracted, so I'll stop rambling.

-Luca

Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast The Acolyte S1 E5 Night09 Jul 202400:55:29

Howdy, Spacefarers!

Welcome to another episode of the Star Wars Rewatch Podcast! Today, we're diving into another exciting episode of The Acolyte, and once again, we're mixing up the order. Despite this, the episodes we've covered so far have been some of the best in the series.

Episode Highlights:

  • Friends Become Enemies, Enemies Become Friends: This episode is packed with intense action and surprising twists. While the show has its flaws, the action scenes are a definite highlight that keep us entertained.

  • Avoiding Spoilers & Reviews: I'm steering clear of other reviews and critiques of The Acolyte until I've seen the entire season. This way, I can share my genuine thoughts without any external influence.

  • Dafne Keen's Role: I was thrilled to see Dafne Keen, known for her role as Wolverine's daughter in Logan, in the show! She plays Jecki, who forms an interesting friendship with Osha.

  • Spectacular Lightsaber Fights: The lightsaber battles in this episode are top-notch, surpassing even some of the iconic scenes in Ahsoka, including the one featuring Hayden Christensen. The combat choreography is exceptional for a TV show.

I won't give away any more details to avoid spoilers, but the episode's action scenes are definitely worth watching!

Thanks for tuning in!

Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast The Acolyte S1 E4 Day25 Jun 202400:52:03

Howdy, My Fellow Spacefarers!

Thank you for being patient as we work on releasing our episodes. We appreciate our 22 subscribers on YouTube and many more on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and other podcast platforms.

Episode Order & Highlights:

We're doing things a little out of order here. Why? Well, there are no rules in podcasting! Also, episode four of The Acolyte has been the best by far.

Series Progress & Personal Insights:

The series is beginning to pick up speed. Yes, we will go back and record episodes for the ones we missed. I've been avoiding other content and media to keep my opinions unbiased.

I've seen some overwhelmingly negative opinions on Reddit, but also some strong counterarguments. The sense of mystery in the show is captivating. It makes you wonder who is telling the truth. Is it the Jedi? Mae? Sol? Qimir? We'll have to watch and see.

Standout Moments & Impressions:

The standout moment in this episode is the reveal of the dark warrior with the red lightsaber to the Jedi. What an entrance! It was a definite supervillain introduction, reminiscent of Ian McKellen's Magneto in the X-Men franchise. The character's design, with jagged teeth, is very threatening and adds to the mystery.

I'm looking forward to the next episode and revisiting the previous ones for a deeper dive into hidden details.

Thanks for listening!

Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast Special Edition Who's Your Favorite Furry Friend and Astromech Droid?08 Apr 202400:31:19

Special Edition Episode: Sydney's Brilliance

This episode is a special edition inspired by Sydney's idea. That's right, SYDNEY'S BRILLIANCE created this episode! We discuss and vote for our favorite sidekicks, both furry and droid.

Sydney

Howdy, Friends!

It's been a while! Sorry for the delay. Since Ahsoka wrapped, we've been on a bit of a hiatus. The intro above was written by Sydney. I had some other thoughts on how this episode might go down. AJ had a baby, and my brother has been busy, so I've invested in new equipment that will allow them to record episodes remotely. Look forward to those in the future!

In the meantime, Sydney came up with a great idea to discuss her favorite sidekick characters. Of course, I agreed! She wanted to talk about her favorite furry friends, Chewbacca and Wicket.

Since Ahsoka wrapped, I've also been catching up on The Clone Wars and Rebels. I mentioned on the podcast that I hadn't watched them when they were new. While I'm still not the biggest fan of the animation style, it has improved over time, and the stories and characters have become more complex.

I'm now well into season three of Rebels and deeply regret not watching it before Ahsoka. While Ahsoka isn't the main focus, her appearances are standout moments. I'm specifically thinking of the time she rescues Kanan and Ezra from two Inquisitors by herself. Ahsoka is truly a badass.

As a result of watching Rebels, Sydney has become a fan of C1-10P, aka "Chopper." She often mimics Chopper's sounds, which always makes me laugh. When I ask her to repeat them, she refuses. So, we decided to choose between R2-D2 and C1-10P as our favorite droid sidekicks.

We posted a poll on our YouTube community tab and read the results aloud. If you haven't voted yet, please visit the community tab and do so. We also posted another poll for a future episode idea. Check out the community tab for more details!

Thanks for listening!

***VIDEO*** Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast Ahsoka Part Eight: The Jedi, The Witch and the Warlord.17 Jan 202400:49:37

Wow. This Episode Was Tough on Production! Was it fun to sit down and record with my brother? Of course, it was. But was it fun to edit out all the times the video went black during recording? Not at all. Ahsoka Finale & Reflections: Ahsoka is finally over! Some fans are happy, while others are not. I understand both perspectives. Now that I'm in season five of The Clone Wars, I can see the changes in Ahsoka's character development over time. No longer is she the hot-headed apprentice of Anakin Skywalker. She's evolving into a Padawan with her own views on the war and the Jedi Order's role in it. Her changing perspective becomes clear during the four-episode arc on Onderon. Here, the Jedi support a local insurgency instead of committing galactic navy resources to liberate the planet. The show boldly uses the term "terrorism" to describe the rebels' actions. Anakin supports the idea of using terrorism to free Onderon, but Yoda and the Jedi Council reject this approach. Instead, they decide to supply weapons that only target droids, not civilians. Ahsoka feels uneasy and isolated, with no master or mentor to confide in. There's also a hint of romance between her and an ex-Separatist, adding to her internal conflict. These nuanced character developments are missing in Ahsoka. I found a video that criticizes Dave Filoni, and I agree with many of the points made. The series is best appreciated if you've seen The Clone Wars and Rebels, as it isn't accessible to viewers unfamiliar with Ahsoka's story. The video also compares recent Star Wars shows to Andor, noting that Andor stands out because it tells a compelling story even without the Star Wars setting. In contrast, Ahsoka, The Book of Boba Fett, and Obi-Wan Kenobi rely heavily on established characters and fan service, limiting their storytelling risks. Overall, this episode and Ahsoka as a whole were just okay. What did you think of the show? Did you love it or hate it? In my opinion, the opposite of love isn't hate; it's indifference. After watching seasons one and two of The Mandalorian, I felt indifferent. I didn't watch The Book of Boba Fett until after season three of The Mandalorian, realizing I'd missed important story elements that left me confused. Here We Are: Re-recording the Podcast Episode I admit, I messed up. Whoops. Moving on. Despite my mistake, I'm grateful for having re-watched this episode, mainly because of Hayden Christensen's reprisal as Anakin. I mentioned during the episode and will reiterate here: my man still has the moves. It didn't look like they used a stunt double at all! Comparing Christensen's performance to Ewan McGregor's, there's a noticeable difference. Granted, there's an age gap between the two. However, McGregor looked tired on screen, while Christensen, despite Anakin being dead, looked alive and energetic in his portrayal. Unfortunately, while his performance stood out, young Ahsoka's did not. Nothing against Arianna Greenblatt—she was great as Sasha in the Barbie movie. While she kind of acts like a brat in this episode, it's more likely a reaction to the dialogue she's given. Christensen also struggled with some of the poorly written lines. For many, Star Wars is the only film they've seen him in, and his delivery of George Lucas's lines didn't always help. This episode was alright. Not great, not terrible. If it wasn't obvious that the star whales would be used to jump to hyperspace to follow Morgan and her goons to Peridea, then you must have been watching a different show. Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast Andor Kassa Special Edition Redux Part Deux14 Jul 202500:47:07

Howdy, spacefarers — and thank you for tuning in to another episode of the Re-Watch Podcast! Today’s show is extra special because I'm joined by my friend Joe, an avid comic book reader, collector, and all-around pop culture expert.

I first noticed Joe’s impressive Marvel collection at the office — featuring Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, and Doctor Doom. He’s also a seasoned convention-goer with autographs from the legendary actors behind Darth Vader, Boba Fett, and R2-D2.

There’s plenty of crossover in our fandoms, and today, I introduced Joe to Andor — what many fans consider the best Star Wars series Disney has produced. While Andor Season 2 has just debuted, we kicked things off with the very first episode of Season 1.

Like me, Joe ranks Rogue One as one of the finest Star Wars films ever made. I’ve long argued that while Solo was the Star Wars movie no one asked for, Andor is the show we didn’t know we desperately needed. Season 1 shattered expectations — and we’re all eager to see how Season 2 measures up.

Tune in as Joe shares his Star Wars knowledge, comic book adventures, and convention stories — and I make the case for why Andor deserves his full attention.

🎙️ Have you attended any fan conventions? Who did you meet? Drop your stories in the comments — we’d love to hear them!

Thanks for listening, and may the Force be with you.

***VIDEO*** Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast Ahsoka Part Six: Far, Far Away28 Dec 202300:40:00

As I write this, I'm re-watching Part VI of Ahsoka. Upon reflection, I realized we recorded the wrong episode first. The last episode published covered Parts III and IV, but Sydney and I just recorded Part VI for some reason. Needless to say, we'll have to record another episode soon, or I can delay posting this one until a few days after the next one is published.

I forgot to take notes and can't remember the exact order of events. Whether I remember all of it or not, it was still a very good episode. You'll hear which part I found most compelling, and I'm sure it was your favorite part too.

We mostly followed the events of the episode as they occurred. It's intriguing to see Morgan and her goons arrive at the Nightsister temple, where the Great Mothers are waiting with yet another star map. I wonder if these maps are an essential part of Dathomiri culture or just a plot device.

We briefly discuss the motivations of Baylan Skoll. We know he survived the purges of Order 66, but he harbors no love for the Old Republic, the Jedi Order, or the Empire. He mentions to Shin that he's trying to break the cycle of history, which raises the question: why help the Imperial Remnant? Didn't the Empire just lose the war?

Yes, Thrawn is their best hope of challenging the New Republic, despite its strained state. I'm very curious to see how Skoll's story unfolds. The same goes for his apprentice—will she follow her master to the end or forge her own path?

Give this episode a listen and share your thoughts. I thought it was really good.

What did you think?

Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast Ahsoka Part Six: Far, Far Away28 Dec 202300:40:00

Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast Ahsoka Part Four: Fallen Jedi16 Nov 202300:41:48

Greetings, Spacefarers! Thank you for tuning into another episode of The Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast. My brother Mike and I just watched Part IV of Ahsoka titled "Fallen Jedi." Thanks to patiently enduring the previous episode, we get to see a lot of action featuring Shin and Baylan in this one. Previously, Huyang suggested that Ahsoka be more flexible when teaching Sabine. In turn, Sabine gets her chance to face off against Shin once more to prove if she's up to snuff. I'm sure you're all aware that Ray Stevenson passed away in May, almost three months before Ahsoka aired. That being said, we should all be grateful for the intensity he brings to the roles he takes. His portrayal of a not Jedi/not Sith character is rather intriguing. Since Baylan and his apprentice survived the Order 66 purges, I'm curious how his perception of the Republic and Jedi Council shaped his worldview. I am still making my way through the Clone Wars series. Young Ahsoka is proving to be a cunning and competent padawan under the tutelage of Anakin's unorthodox "field" training. I know that Ahsoka abandoned the Jedi Order when she felt their pursuit of war with the Separatists made the Jedi Council complicit in all the death and destruction. Does Baylan feel the same way? Does supporting Thrawn potentially make him a Sith if Vader and Emperor Palpatine are dead? It's very curious to see who they might cast as Baylan if he does not survive the series. Thanks for listening. What are your thoughts on the series so far? Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast Ahsoka Part Three: Time to Fly14 Nov 202300:31:07

Howdy, friends. I've had a lot of time to think about this episode, and it doesn't get better after re-watching. The SFX for the fighters are disappointing—lame and unoriginal looking. This episode of Ahsoka feels like filler. We don't learn anything new that the audience couldn't deduce in the first few minutes of viewing. To quote my brother Mike, "It's storytelling 101."

Well, here we are, folks. Please join me in welcoming back my brother Mike to the podcast. Was he banned? I'm going to go on record and say "no."

Regardless of the reason, we have another special edition of the podcast for you today. Today, Mike and I will be discussing our experience with the sequel to the hugely popular video game Jedi: Fallen Order.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I was so wrong for not playing the game upon release. As I write this, I'm trying to come up with a reason why not. The only thing that comes to mind is Cal Kestis. In my mind, I backburnered the game because I didn't know the characters and didn't want to get to know them. Either I thought they were somehow related to Clone Wars or Rebels, and I didn't think either of those shows was for me at the time.

I was wrong. Having spent almost eighty hours with Cal, Greeze, BD-1, Merrin, and Cere, their second adventure far exceeds their first in almost every way.

The gameplay was not so much an improvement but an expansion of the mechanics that were already good. In the previous game, you have a double-bladed detachable lightsaber. The natural expansion of the combat system would be to allow Cal to wield dual sabers independently. The developers at Respawn did just that. What about a cross-guard saber like Kylo Ren? Why not? Blaster and saber? Holy shit! Now they have taken the gameplay to a completely new level.

Of course, the combat wouldn't be complete without expanding Cal's Force powers. Upon my second playthrough, I realized confusion, mass slam, and mass levitate were some of the most useful.

The game still locks off some abilities until you reach certain plot points in the story, but once you make it through the prologue on New Game+, you have access to all abilities and Force powers from the jump, which are not tied to the story.

This is the only part of the game that one might consider annoying, especially on New Game+. Some Force powers, like dashing, are only tied to mobility. They don't necessarily make enemies easier to fight, so why do I have to wait until certain points in the campaign to use them?

Same goes for the upgrade to your ascension cable. Towards the last third of the game, you unlock the upgrade that allows you to attach to weather balloons you see all over the place.

Regardless of these nitpicks, both games are absolute MASTERPIECES. Don't delay like I did—play them as soon as possible. Between the gameplay, story, graphics, music, and setting, there's something for all Star Wars fans.

Thanks for listening!

***VIDEO*** Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast Ahsoka Part Two: Toil and Trouble19 Sep 202300:35:10

And we're back! Thank you for tuning in. Here we are again with another episode of Ahsoka in the bag. It might not be notable that both episodes debuted on the same day, but I'm going to mention it here anyway. Why, you might ask? No reason other than to fill these opening text crawls with something rather than nothing. We follow up with our heroines Ahsoka, Sabine, and Hera as they continue to piece together the mystery of Thrawn and potentially Ezra's location. I've admitted several times on this show that I haven't watched Clone Wars. However, I am doing my best to rectify that. So much so that I'm beginning to pick up on subtle references to Clone Wars. By the time I publish this episode, six episodes will have aired. In that time, I've kept hearing the name Syndulla and wondered why it sounded familiar. According to Wookieepedia, Cham first appeared in "Liberty on Ryloth" among others. I had no idea he would become such an important character in the franchise that even his descendants would later appear in the Star Wars Universe—in live action, no less. Now I'm really curious to see what Ahsoka, Sabine, Hera, etc., were like in Rebels and how faithfully they've been represented on screen. Looking forward to your thoughts and opinions on the show! Greetings, my fellow Nightsisters! Thank you for tuning in. Another day, another Star Wars IP drops on Disney Plus. I know we're a little behind on publishing—blame my loyal co-hosts for that! But that won't stop me from sharing my passion with Sydney and with you. This first episode provided a lot of mystery, especially if you haven't seen the accompanying show Rebels, which aired from 2014 to 2018, right after Disney acquired Star Wars. While many lament the cancellation of Clone Wars in 2020, we get to see some of our favorite characters like Ahsoka grow and develop as they continue their arc in a new series made by the same creator. Once again, Dave Filoni has impressed me with the look and feel of Ahsoka. While CGI is evident in some shots, in others, it's challenging to distinguish between practical effects and sets. Since I started watching Clone Wars, I've only begun to scratch the surface of Ahsoka's character development and training throughout the series. It's been spoiled for me that she renounces her status as a Jedi toward the end of Clone Wars, which is why her lightsabers are neither green, blue, red, nor any other color that might associate her as an ally or enemy of the Jedi. I'm missing a lot of backstory, having not finished Clone Wars. I thought this show was supposed to focus on one of the greatest villains the Republic has ever known, not on one of the characters who allegedly died defeating him. I'm going to continue watching as much of Clone Wars as possible. Disney Plus offers a guide highlighting pivotal moments in Ahsoka's storyline that you can skip to. While it might be quicker to watch those rather than all seven seasons, I feel bad for the creators if I did that. Not sure why I'm trying to appease them, but I'm starting to enjoy the show a lot and don't want to miss anything, no matter how trivial it may seem in the grand scheme of things. What are your thoughts on Ahsoka? The first two episodes released back-to-back, so rest assured, Sydney and I will be publishing our next episode soon. Thank you for listening! Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast Andor One Year Later09 May 202500:50:41

While it has been a year for our hero Andor, it has been almost two or more for our beloved co-host AJ. We have him setup to record remotely now and hopefully that will mean we get to hear his opinion on the latest from Disney star wars intellectual properties. Speaking of, we all just re-watched Andor. By far the most anticipated Star Wars show to return to the digital steaming platform, Andor once again depicts the series of events that lead up to the theatrical debut of the character in rogue one. my goodness, did Disney spend a lot of money on the sets for this season! Everything you see, looks like it's right in front of the camera. Not that there were not any digital effects to fill in the gaps but, the series continues to put an impeccable shine and levels of grit and dirt where needed to get the audience to feel what the characters are feeling in a given moment. Initially, I was not a big fan of this episode. Yes, the action with the tie advanced was very cool, lots of explosions, Michael Bay etc. however, the story line with Maya Pei brigade that take Andor hostage did not do much for me. I just found their immature bickering to be annoying and it took me out of the story. Their dialog did not seem to match Star Wars, if that makes sense. Even though I did not appreciate these scenes as much, that meant I got to appreciate the scenes with Luthen, Mon Mothma, Vel, Bix, Brasso and the rest of the cast who returned for the second season. Speaking of returning characters, Dedra is back! As evil as she is under the surface it a fascinating to see how she moves about her environment and how she thinks. She has a job to do and if she were on the other side of the war she might be even more fanatical than Saw Guerrera. Scenes with her and Major Partagaz and other imperials were some of the best. especially for the first episode of the series. You see how casually the empire discussing committing #genocide to achieve their goals all while calculating how they are going to manipulate public opinion. It is pure evil but, they discuss it like it is a normal business meeting and they have do what their client wants and manage the outcome. Thank you for listening. Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast Special Edition Episode VIII The Last Jedi24 Aug 202301:15:38

Hello there, my young padawans! I'm pleased to announce that Sydney has completed her training as a padawan learner. When I met her, she had only seen Episodes I, II, and III of Star Wars. Thanks to me, she is well on her way to becoming a knight of the Star Wars Universe. Did she enjoy everything she saw? Definitely not. Will she groan when I watch them over and over again? Absolutely. However, that is love—unconditional love. Does this mean it's the last time we'll re-watch all nine movies? Definitely not. I still enjoy the universe for all its possibilities, flaws, special effects, new stories, old stories, and heroes long gone. While I may be a Jedi Grand Master among my friends and family, I am still but a learner compared to those who have come before me. I really want to sit down with my brother Mike and AJ to get their opinions on the new trilogy, as well as the originals and prequels. My brother and I saw The Force Awakens a few times in theaters together. My old roommate and I attended a midnight showing of The Last Jedi. AJ and I saw Revenge of the Sith in theaters while we were still in high school. And who could forget the man who started it all—my dad? He took me to see A New Hope in theaters when I was ten years old. When the prequels released, it was obvious Lucas was surrounded by too many yes-men. The people who worked on the films were so desperate for more Star Wars on the big screen that every whim of the director was catered to. The orgy of special effects, terrible writing, and horrendous acting were evident. Lucas didn't need to write and direct these movies by himself. However, what they lack in execution, they make up for in their singular vision and storyline. The newest trilogy suffers from the opposite problem. Instead of a singular vision from an auteur, they were made by committee. As a result, many elements are thrown together that will definitely please some due to their familiarity but wow none due to their rehashing of well-trodden ground. Based on IMDb and Metacritic ratings, Revenge of the Sith was the best of the prequels. The Rise of Skywalker, The Phantom Menace, and Attack of the Clones are by far the worst received out of all nine movies. Regardless of what fans and critics think and believe, many are happy that the legacy of Star Wars will continue indefinitely, be it through films, TV shows, books, comics, video games, etc. Thanks for listening! ***VIDEO*** Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast Special Edition Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker07 Aug 202300:57:02

Greetings, space farers! Thanks for tuning in to another episode of the Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast. We're back from a slight hiatus since the season finale of The Mandalorian.

What can we do in the meantime before Ahsoka releases? Why not re-watch The Rise of Skywalker with Sydney and get her thoughts and opinions compared to mine?

By far, I think the fanbase hated this movie. While some may have appreciated Rian Johnson's attempt to do something different, J.J. Abrams' retcon of his work did little to win favor with the fans.

Personally, I found the action sequences lacking. We've seen the Millennium Falcon in space battles. We've seen speeder bike chases. Why are we seeing them again in the same order we got them in the original trilogy?

Even the idea of Palpatine having offspring is not original. It's been done before in the book "The Glove of Darth Vader." At first glance, it sounds like an adult version of a Star Wars novel. However, the plot revolves around two three-eyed characters named Triclops and Trioculus, one of whom claims to be the son of Emperor Palpatine. The other is soft-spoken and shy when Han, Leia, and Luke encounter him.

I remember my best friend growing up had these books and allowed me to read them. They were targeted towards younger readers like the Young Jedi Knights and Junior Jedi Knights series but were still read by fans of all ages.

Needless to say, this movie was full of bad ideas and fake-outs. Once it was revealed that Palpatine returned, the next logical move was to make Rey his granddaughter. Did you think they settled this plot point in The Last Jedi? Of course not! They brought back her nameless parents, one of whom was the son of Palpatine with ZERO force powers, I might add.

What a mess! Of course, Sydney had the opposite opinion. Her favorite scene was the reveal of Lando Calrissian, at which point she shouted out, "LANDO!"

We were all let down by the movie as a whole. The lazy plot hole of bringing back Palpatine. The lazy dialogue, "Somehow Palpatine has returned." Which is followed by the just-as-dumb line, "Dark science. Cloning. Secrets only the Sith knew." Secrets. SECRETS! More like the entire GALACTIC REPUBLIC'S strategy for winning a twenty-plus-year Clone War. If not for the cloning technology, the Confederacy's droid armies would have swiftly taken control of the galaxy and the Republic.

This whole plotline of a resurrected "clone" Emperor Palpatine flies in the face of the Rule of Two lore and the concept of midichlorians. Especially since he had a son! If we know force sensitivity is genetic (Anakin to Luke & Leia), then why does there need to be a Rule of Two? Palpatine and his predecessor Darth Bane could have easily passed their knowledge onto their offspring, but instead, Darth Bane utilizes Sith Magic to pass his spirit onto his apprentice Darth Zannah and inhabit her body.

Aside from that, the Darth Bane trilogy is phenomenal and I suggest you read it. Especially because they reference him in the Clone Wars series.

Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast Special Edition Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker 07 Aug 202300:57:02

***VIDEO*** Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast S3E8 The Mandalorian Chapter 24 The Return16 Jul 202301:15:30

Greetings spacefarers! We made it to the final episode of The Mandalorian. Did the season end with a bang or a whimper? Tough call.

My co-hosts Mike and AJ are back to discuss the season finale with me. They think their job is over, but Ahsoka releases in just over a month. I, for one, am eager to discuss all the new mysterious characters we've seen in the trailer.

For better or worse, it's forcing me to watch the Clone Wars series since Ahsoka is a main character from episode one. Once I'm done with that, I'll have to move onto Rebels where Grand Admiral Thrawn is a main character. I'm still not the biggest fan of the 3D art style they use—some characters look really weird. Anakin's face especially; they made no attempt to make him look like Hayden Christensen. Obi-Wan's character looks like a 3D render of Ewan McGregor. It's a lot less noticeable with the aliens and droids versus the humanoid characters.

Either way, it's refreshing to see the Star Wars franchise get the big-budget attention on the silver screen. Who would have thought we'd be watching so many live-action Star Wars TV shows?

I really hope the story of Ahsoka is not just a series of references to episodes from Clone Wars. Now that I know Dave Filoni has been an integral part of Clone Wars, Rebels, The Mandalorian, and The Book of Boba Fett, I'll have to look into his influence across the various shows he's been a part of.

***VIDEO*** Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast S3E7 The Mandalorian Chapter 23 The Spies08 Jul 202300:56:44

Greetings citizens of the Galactic Empire! Thank you for being law-abiding and reporting any suspected terrorism. We're back with another episode of The Mandalorian.

The PENULTIMATE episode: The Spies.

Is the title relevant? Sort of. In the previous episode with Lizzo and Jack Black, Bo-Katan successfully defeated her rivals for control of her fleet. She and Din Djarin return to Nevarro, completing step one of the Armorer's plan to unite all tribes of Mandalore, setting the stage for the re-conquest of their homeworld.

The episode opens with some stunning cyberpunk visuals of Coruscant, highlighting its high-tech, low-life aesthetic. We also see the clearly villainous Elia Kane sneaking away to communicate with Moff Gideon via a probe droid, informing him that the Mandalorians plan to return to Mandalore. Why are these former Imperials left unsupervised on the former Imperial Capital? That's a massive security risk!

Naturally, this spells trouble for Moff Gideon, as his secret Dark Trooper 2.0 base is located there.

We get an awesome scene of him walking through several red force fields guarded by these new Dark Troopers, leading to a council of Imperials. First and foremost, Captain Pellaeon! Grand Admiral Thrawn's right-hand man! I always remembered Pellaeon with a mustache, as he has in the show. However, flipping through the graphic novels of Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, and The Last Command, he's clean-shaven.

Not sure where this Mandela effect is coming from, but I swear he wasn't as old as he's portrayed in the show, and his hair wasn't grey.

Since Timothy Zahn's Thrawn trilogy, Pellaeon has appeared in various media. If you've played the game Tie Fighter, you might recall some of Admiral Thrawn's story. In the intro cut-scene, we see Thrawn in a white uniform, which is exclusive to Grand Admirals, though he's not yet a "Grand" Admiral. There's also a character with a white mustache and goatee next to him. Is that where they got the idea for Captain Pellaeon's depiction in the show? Interesting.

While Pellaeon's appearance varies from book to graphic novel, video game, and TV show, I'm eagerly anticipating Grand Admiral Thrawn's debut on the silver screen. How will they portray the Noghri?

***VIDEO*** Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast S3 E6 The Mandalorian Chapter 22 Guns For Hire.28 Jun 202300:56:55

Not gonna lie, re-watching this episode definitely made it feel more like a filler. You have the beautiful but distracting Lizzo, and the equally captivating Jack Black. Do I love them in their respective fields? Of course I do. But why are they in a Star Wars TV show? It's jarring!

It seems like the creators are trying to pad out the series' runtime. Once they land on the planet, they're immediately contracted by the planetary leadership to assist with malfunctioning droids.

That's right, folks, the deadliest warriors in the galaxy are now retiring old malfunctioning droids. The twist? Many of these droids are BATTLE DROIDS! How irresponsible is it to try to override the programming of machines designed for combat and deploy them within a civilian population?

Aside from Black and Lizzo, it was cool to see Christopher Lloyd on screen—not because of his role as Doc Brown in Back to the Future, but for his role as Judge Doom in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. That’s still my jam.

In the next scene, we get a callback to season one with Din's encounter with the Ugnaught Kuiil on Nevarro. Side note, I had no idea Nick Nolte did the voice for Kuiil! Using his prior relationship with the Ugnaughts, Din manages to gain their help in tracking down the malfunctioning droids.

The only interesting part about what happens next is seeing B1 and B2 Super Battle Droids on screen for the first time since Revenge of the Sith. However, it doesn’t amount to much.

Of course, we find out that Christopher Lloyd’s character is a former Separatist who planned to flip the switch and make the battle droids turn on their masters. It would have been much more interesting to see the Mandalorians unite and fight against legions of battle droids. Instead, the bad guy is quickly captured like a Scooby-Doo villain, and we move to the only important scene in the episode.

In the intro, we know that the remaining Mandalorians once loyal to Bo-Katan are now acting as mercenaries and privateers. In the beginning of the season, we learn they all abandoned her after she returned empty-handed without the Darksaber. Now we find out they've been hired to protect the planet.

It's here that Bo-Katan attempts to reunite with her former clan peacefully, but of course, she ends up fighting for the right to lead the tribe. She wins, and Din Djarin reveals that he was defeated and the Darksaber taken from him, but Bo-Katan defeated and rescued his enemy, making her the rightful owner of the Darksaber.

Without any evidence, and based solely on Din Djarin's word, her clan accepts her, and the episode ends with Bo-Katan once again wielding the Darksaber.

Honestly, I don’t remember my initial thoughts when I first watched this episode, but this second viewing wasn't any better.

Let us know what your thoughts are on the episode.

Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast Special Edition Visions The Bride & Screecher's Reach04 Mar 202500:47:33

Re-Watch Podcast | Special Edition

Star Wars Visions Vol. 1 & 2
"The Bride" & "Screecher’s Reach"

🚀 Welcome back, spacefarers! Thanks for tuning into another episode.

This time, I’m joined once again by my awesome baby brother as we revisit Star Wars: Visions. If you haven’t checked out this incredible anthology series yet, you’re seriously missing out!

For those unfamiliar, Visions is a unique take on the Star Wars universe. Lucasfilm partnered with top Japanese anime studios, giving them complete creative freedom to craft original stories, characters, and settings—all in their own distinctive art styles.

Obviously, these studios jumped at the chance to showcase their work on Disney’s platform. But it does make me wonder—how much crossover exists between Star Wars fans and anime lovers?

Growing up, thanks to our dad, my siblings and I were exposed to a variety of films beyond the usual Disney classics. Sure, we watched animated favorites, but we also got a dose of ‘50s alien invasion flicks, ‘80s sci-fi horror, and ‘90s Japanese anime. While our mom didn’t always approve, these experiences shaped our taste to this day.

It’s well-documented that George Lucas was heavily influenced by Akira Kurosawa’s films. So much so that certain shots from Kurosawa’s movies were directly lifted and integrated into Star Wars. Now, things have come full circle—Star Wars has left its mark worldwide, and now it’s being reinterpreted by the cultures it originally drew inspiration from.

Mike and I sat down to rewatch two specific episodes:
🎭 The Bride (his pick)
👁 Screecher’s Reach (my pick)

Even though we had both seen them before, it was fascinating to compare our perspectives. The Bride didn’t initially excite me, but on a second watch, I appreciated how it builds its own mythology within the Star Wars universe. I even spotted clear nods to Miyazaki’s Princess Mononoke.

Compared to Visions Vol. 1, Visions Vol. 2 leaned more into the dark side. While the first volume had Sith vs. Jedi battles, the second introduced protagonists who willingly embraced the dark side. Take Daal from Screecher’s Reach—at first glance, she doesn’t look villainous. Compare that to Darth Vader, always clad in black with a red saber, or even Anakin, whose dark cloak foreshadowed his fall.

I won’t spoil Screecher’s Reach, but let’s just say—the ending is perfect.

If you haven’t watched Visions yet, do yourself a favor and check it out. And fingers crossed for a Visions Vol. 3 in the near future!

🎙 Thanks for listening!
—Luca

Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast Special Edition Rogue One21 Jun 202300:55:58

What can one say about Rogue One that hasn't already been said? Released almost a year after The Force Awakens, anticipation was high for the franchise's first theatrical spinoff. Nowadays, it's hard to remember if everyone knew the story would cover how the rebels stole the Death Star plans before heading into theaters.

I vaguely recall the plot of the DOOM clone Dark Forces involving the character General Nadine (seen on screen for the first time with a terrible fake beard in Return of the Jedi). I'm probably wrong, but I remember thinking Kyle Katarn kidnaps Nadine because he's the one Imperial who defects and helps the fledgling Alliance steal the plans. Kyle Katarn is also the first character in the Star Wars universe to wield the now-legendary Bryar Pistol, which Cassian Andor also carries as his sidearm.

The impetus for Rogue One originates from a throwaway line in A New Hope. We know Leia hides the Death Star plans in R2-D2, but we never learned how she acquired them—until now. We discover that the Death Star's weakness was a design flaw intentionally placed by its captive creator, Galen Erso, portrayed by Mads Mikkelsen. An excellent performance by an actor known for playing more villains than heroes. Galen's motivation for revenge after the death of his wife, Lyra, is clear and compelling.

I think everyone's favorite character ended up being K-2SO, portrayed by Alan Tudyk. Despite being a droid, Tudyk's motion-captured performance brought more humanity to the role than the rest of the cast combined. It was also thrilling to see Darth Vader in a film outside the original trilogy. James Earl Jones does an excellent job with his limited lines. Director Krennic, portrayed by Ben Mendelsohn, also stands out as a compelling villain. I believe it was Chris Stuckmann who praised Mendelsohn for going full "evil villain" in his scenes. Kudos to the casting director for that choice.

My favorite scene was, of course, the naval battle at the end, especially when Admiral Raddus notices the disabled Star Destroyer and uses a Hammerhead Corvette to ram it, turning it into a giant needle that pierces through the planetary shield protecting Scarif. An awesome sequence—I loved every second of it.

Thank you for listening to this Special Edition of the Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast. Unfortunately, no video for this episode as the encoder failed and only recorded a few minutes of footage. Thankfully, the audio was recorded separately as a backup.

Thanks for listening.

***VIDEO*** Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast Special Edition Jedi Fallen Order07 Jun 202301:54:47

If you haven't played Jedi Fallen Order or Jedi Survivor, what are you waiting for? Use the links below and get started! You're missing out on an incredible experience.

Sorry for the delay, folks. I needed a little extra time to process my thoughts on this last special edition. Mike and I went on for two hours about Jedi Fallen Order. Obviously, we both love the game. I regret not playing and beating it sooner. The story is great, the characters are compelling, and the voice acting is superb. Graphics, sound effects, music, gameplay, and combat are absolutely phenomenal! Respawn has made a fool out of EA. Forcing developers to focus solely on multiplayer-centric games has backfired. Respawn has proven that EA's "online-only" model is more about profit than creating art for the sake of art. I understand that taking risks in an industry as competitive as video games is tough, but designing games for their audience pays off. Not every game needs to be a blockbuster like Call of Duty to guarantee sales. Disney and Respawn have crafted a piece of art worthy of the title Star Wars.

Rant over.

There's a lot to talk about in this game. Let's start with the setting. Five years after Order 66, we meet former Jedi Cal Kestis, living in obscurity and trying to make ends meet. Cal has abandoned the Jedi way but is forced to use his powers to save a life, attracting the attention of the Imperial Inquisition. This sets off the chain of events that begin the story. Both this game and the Kenobi show illustrate the evolution of the Empire's tech from Attack of the Clones to Revenge of the Sith to A New Hope. We see the Stormtrooper armor we know from the original trilogy and can infer that the Empire is on a five to ten-year upgrade path. The game also shows the transition from semi-modern Clone Trooper armor, which has fewer elements of Jango Fett's Mandalorian armor, to more modern Stormtrooper designs, particularly in the visor and vents.

Cal is set on a journey after being rescued by another former Jedi, Cere Junda. Without spoiling too much, Cere is searching for a holocron left behind by another Jedi Master. With it, she hopes to rebuild the Jedi Order and fight the Empire.

This game kicked my ass, mostly because I was playing it wrong. I cranked the difficulty up to Jedi Grandmaster, thinking I could handle it as a veteran of all From Software games since Demon's Souls. While many compare the combat to Dark Souls, it's actually more like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. I was playing too aggressively, and the game punished me for it. While the parry windows are much narrower on higher difficulty, the game rewards deflecting enemy attacks more than breaking an enemy's guard through brute force. Even on the highest difficulty, simply deflecting attacks provided more opportunities for damage than attacking and guard-breaking.

Either way, I learned a valuable lesson and powered through the rest of the game until its climactic ending. I'm not going to spoil it, but if you've never played this game, you absolutely must. I'll leave Amazon Associate links below for where to purchase.

Thanks for listening, guys. I hope you enjoy the game as much as Mike and I did.

Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast Special Edition Jedi Fallen Order 07 Jun 202301:54:48

***VIDEO*** Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast S3E5 The Mandalorian The Pirate02 Jun 202300:46:53

Hey spacers! How are we doing? It's your host, Luca, along with my co-host AJ. We just watched the fifth episode of The Mandalorian: The Pirate. Honestly, this episode felt like a bit of a filler. Sure, there were cool starships, dogfights, laser blasts, and rockets, but the key story elements were so small that they might have slipped by unnoticed.

The pirates invade, they get defeated—no surprises there. What really caught our attention was the eerie shot of a wrecked Lambda-Class shuttle floating in space, a clear nod to James Cameron's Aliens. The cinematography nailed the haunting vibe, with the R2 unit's blue scanner beam adding to the atmosphere. And can we talk about the Lambda-Class shuttle's design? It's got that perfect mix of bureaucratic efficiency, malice, and terror—classic Empire.

On a more significant note, The Armorer tells Bo-Katan that she did see the Mythosaur and asks her to remove her helmet. She then presents her to the Covert, declaring that Bo-Katan "walks in both worlds" and will unite all Mandalorian tribes. These crucial moments are packed into the last five minutes of the episode.

It's clear why Jon Favreau might be clashing with Disney over the show's direction. Gorian Shard feels like a cookie-cutter Disney villain rather than a Star Wars pirate. That said, the production quality is top-notch. The Cumulus-Class Corsair crashing on Nevarro looked incredible. But seriously, The Armorer's choice of weapons—tongs and a hammer? In a world of lasers and projectiles, it just felt off.

What did you think of the episode? Let us know!

Thanks for tuning in!

Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast: Special Edition. Episode VII The Force Awakens28 May 202300:40:32

Good evening lads and ladettes. You have tuned in to a Special Edition episode of the podcast.

Let's go back to pre-2015. In 2012, the world has just learned that George Lucas has inked a deal with Disney and sold his life's work for $4,050,000,000. Shortly after learning this, Disney pushed forward and began pre-production on a new film in 2013. For some fans, this was incredible news! While the prequels were seen as a net positive by some, others thought that Lucas had clearly gone mad and was surrounded by too many "yes men" unwilling to disagree with his vision who were just geeked to be working for him. As a result, the opening crawl for Episode I The Phantom Menace read like a boring history lesson rather than an exciting new episode of your favorite space western serial. The special effects flooded the screen and absolutely nothing you saw save, for the actuals had a real world physical equivalent. Even the actors faces were digitally edited out during fight sequences. While a technical achievement on their own thanks to the advancements in computing power and software, there was no wonder in how it was all achieved. Lucas thought it up, and artists drew it up and rendered it on a computer. The digital camera provided by Sony allowed footage to be downloaded and edited much faster. Scenes, characters, backgrounds were all rendered thanks to green screens.

Whereas the originally trilogy employed model makers, carpenters, set designers, painters etc. All of which had to achieve their special effects so the cameras lens could capture it. Stop motion models were built and animated where necessary. All done practically.

The resulting prequels would receive mixed reviews in a lot of outlets. Roger Ebert famously gave Attack of the Clones "thumbs down".

In 2013 we also learn J.J. Abrams is slated to direct and produce the movie. At this point in his career, Abrams had already rebooted another beloved sci-fi franchise. Star Trek. If any of you have seen the movie Fanboys, then you know Star Wars and Star Trek and not allowed to associate, intermingle, or breed with one another. Thus, it is considered a crime against humanity that Abrams would be hired to direct Star Wars.

This would not be the only reason for fan outrage. From what my old, insane roommate told me, Abrams had aroused the ire of Star Wars fans, not for his association with Star Trek but, the tv show Lost. I have never watched Lost. However, it developed a rabid fanbase. The hook of the show asked so many questions and involved so much mystery. Who were these people? Why did they crash? Where are they? Why are they there? By season three rating were starting to wane and, fans were not getting answers to the many questions and mysteries of the show. Eventually, the fans would determine everyone is dead, and they had all been in purgatory the entire time.

The writers of the show, especially David Lindelof, would vehemently deny this. As more seasons were churned out. Fewer questions were answered, more plot holes would pop up. It became clear to the loyal fans the writers had written themselves into a corner and were no longer going to kite the fans around the way they wanted.

With this baggage, it was impressive to see the result of Abrams efforts. John Williams once again does the music. A cast of relatively unknow actors are hired to play the main characters. Several of the previous cast a brought back to continue their story. Abrams evens uses the lens from the original cameras to film the movie to capture as much of the original look and magic George Lucas did in a desert of Tunisia. At this point, Kathleen Kennedy had declared all expanded universe material invalid and non-canon, the writers still manager to steal an idea from the Young Jedi Knights series.

Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast S3E4 The Mandalorian Chapter 20 The Foundling01 May 202300:49:30

Another Sunday in the books, and another episode of The Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast goes out into the universe. Hi, I'm your host Luca, and with me is my co-host and best friend AJ.

What can we say about this episode? More than its creators, that's for sure. AJ and I managed to ramble on for over an hour, while the creators barely scraped together 30 minutes.

I do appreciate the legendary Carl Weathers lending a hand (Billy Madison reference) to direct this episode. Of course, it happens to be the shortest episode with virtually no stakes whatsoever.

By far, the most interesting scene involves Grogu, where we get a few snippets of his backstory. Even though he's fifty years old, his memory is already shot, and he cannot tell us anything about who he is or where he came from.

The main story involves one of the apprentices, named Ragnar, being preyed upon by another deadly species near the Mandalorian camp. It seems strange that they can't defend against these threats, considering they know about the giant alligator lizards in the lake right in front of their cave. Additionally, they have avian threats they can't seem to fend off, even though they can fly with their jetpacks. Perhaps they should leave the beast-slaying to other experts and stick to bounty hunting.

As if it was any surprise, Bo-Katan tracks the beast to its nest and earns the honor of leading a hunting/rescue party to save the apprentice. We find out that Ragnar is the son of Paz Vizsla.

We get a fast-paced action sequence where, instead of shooting the beast, they try to immobilize it with grappling hooks. I mentioned to AJ that the problem with everyone wearing similar costumes and helmets is that it's hard to tell what anyone is doing in a given moment. It makes it difficult to know who's doing what.

Our Mandalorian friends rescue Paz Vizsla's son Ragnar and allow the winged beast to be eaten by the gator monster when it plunges into the water in the canyon below. When they return to base, they describe the three adolescent reptile fliers as additional foundlings in need of training.

Did anyone else catch that? What is with this Mandalorian religion? Din Djarin sees potential in Grogu as a Mandalorian, even though he's clearly Force-sensitive and would be best trained as a Jedi. The hunting party sees three winged reptiles and, instead of killing and eating them, sees potential Mandalorian bounty hunters. What's going on here? I thought Mandalorians were supposed to be the deadliest warrior race in the galaxy. Here, we've seen them get owned by stormtroopers and wild animals.

The only scene of importance in this episode was Grogu's flashback to the raid on the Jedi Temple. We also learn that two lightsabers are much more effective at deflecting blaster bolts, as every Jedi with only one gets gunned down. Interestingly, we also learn Grogu is whisked away in a royal Naboo starship, similar to the one Anakin and Padmé used to return to Tatooine. It's curious why that was included—maybe it was just fan service.

Lastly, Bo-Katan confesses to the Armorer that she saw the Mythosaur in the flesh. Looking forward to how that plays out in the future.

Thanks for listening and watching.

***VIDEO*** Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast S3E3 The Mandalorian Chapter 19 The Convert21 Apr 202300:59:57

Wow! This episode takes a left turn that seems to split the fanbase—what's left of The Mandalorian fanbase, that is. If memory serves, Ryan Eary at Screen Crush mentions that half the fans seem to have abandoned the series, which is unfortunate. This season, instead of relying on crossing over characters from other series (like Bo-Katan) or blatant fan service (like Luke Skywalker), the creators are taking a huge risk. They are starting to treat the Star Wars franchise similarly to the Marvel franchise. Instead of creating each series in a vacuum, they're zooming out on the galaxy map and finding out where and when these characters could cross paths along the timeline.

Like Marvel Comics heroes, these characters have their own respective villains, friends, teachers, and all manner of acquaintances. These characters also exist in real-world cities like New York and San Francisco. Many believe part of the Marvel franchise's success is due to its characters being based in real places, in contrast to the DC franchise's fictional cities like Metropolis (based on New York) and Gotham (based on Chicago).

Star Wars has no shortage of Expanded Universe characters and storylines to use as a canvas for a television show. I admit my wrong approach to The Mandalorian season three. I was disillusioned by seasons one and two of The Mandalorian, feeling there were too many episodes that didn't add to the story and were simply filler. This is why I didn't even bother to watch The Book of Boba Fett. I had wanted a Boba Fett show the whole time. Instead, we got a show with a guy who looked and acted like Boba Fett. But wait! For two seasons, we were leaving bread crumbs and subtle hints that Boba Fett was there the whole time.

In my opinion, the juice was not worth the squeeze. Of course, AJ and my brother violently disagree. Fine. Let them.

Chapter 19 starts off with an impressive dogfight between Bo-Katan's Kom'rk-Class Fighter/transport "The Gauntlet," Din Djarin's modified "N1" Naboo starfighter, and some Tie Bombers and Tie Interceptors. After that, the story makes a huge departure and follows up with a character from season one, Dr. Penn Pershing. Remember him? If not for his glasses, I wouldn't either. The whole story involves cloning technology he was working on, which was ordered to be destroyed by the New Republic. Instead, we see Pershing attempting to reintegrate into a society free from the tyranny of the Galactic Empire.

However, as a scientist, he cannot bear to see his life's work lost, despite the good it might yield. Here my brother Mike actually makes himself useful. We ask the question, what happened to the Kaminoans and their cloning facilities? According to Star Wars Battlefront II, the CIS launched an attack on Kamino to destroy the Republic's clone-producing facilities. According to Wookieepedia, this first attack took place only two months after the Battle of Geonosis. Only in the series The Bad Batch do we see the cloning facilities on Kamino utterly destroyed by order of Moff Tarkin.

Dr. Pershing and his new friend Elia Kane sneak aboard a decommissioned Star Destroyer to steal lab supplies needed to continue research into cloning. It's here we find out that Elia betrays Dr. Pershing and steals his technology. Only time will tell what she and the New Republic plan to do with it.

Overall, a great episode in my opinion. Why? It took risks. It dared to do something different, even if the storyline is a thinly veiled attempt to retcon The Rise of Skywalker's Clone Emperor plot holes.

Thanks for listening and watching.

Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast Special Edition Revenge of the Sith07 Feb 202501:09:47

Thanks for tuning in, spacefarers! 🚀 This is a special edition of the podcast featuring my old roommate, Safwan! We’ve known each other for over 20 years, and our journey began at the Sears shoe department, where we bonded over shows like Aqua Teen Hunger Force.

Unfortunately, we never hung out outside of work, and when I moved to a different department, we lost touch. Fast forward a few years, and my co-host AJ happened to meet someone who also worked at Sears—only to realize it was Safwan, my old friend! That chance encounter rekindled our friendship, and soon, we became roommates while I was a Sears Assistant Store Manager. Even though we no longer live together, we’ve remained close ever since.

I always knew we both loved Star Wars, but I didn’t realize just how deep Safwan’s passion for the franchise ran. He was the one who surprised me with advance screening tickets for The Last Jedi! While I love Star Wars, I would’ve been perfectly fine waiting for the weekend instead of staying up for an 11 PM showing.

💥 **In this special edition, we dive deep into Revenge of the Sith—arguably the best prequel and one of the strongest films in the franchise.

We all know the issues with the prequels—clunky dialogue, overuse of CGI, questionable acting choices—but over time, many fans have come to appreciate them more, especially in comparison to Disney’s recent productions.

Regardless of past criticisms, Revenge of the Sith remains a great Star Wars film. While it doesn’t fully redeem the mistakes of Episodes I & II, it delivers a cohesive story with a satisfying conclusion.

Thanks for listening! 🎧 May the Force be with you.

***VIDEO*** Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast S3E2 The Mandalorian Chapter 18 The Mines of Mandalore17 Apr 202300:51:47

Another Sunday, another episode of the Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast in the bag. This time, with a very special guest, Kelsey! I'm writing this several days after the first viewing of the episode and only one day after re-watching it a second time. This episode definitely felt longer compared to the first episode of the season.

We mentioned that Din Djarin is given a quest by The Armorer. Here we are in episode two, and he's achieved all of his quest goals. Item one: Secure a droid with atmospheric sensors. Item two: Bathe in the Living Waters in the Mine of Mandalore to redeem himself from his status as an apostate.

Both AJ and I expected this to be dragged out much longer, but the creators kept it focused and wrapped up the quest in this episode. What's interesting is their decision to involve Bo-Katan. I admit, I didn't know anything about Bo-Katan before her debut in season two. I know she's a very popular character from The Clone Wars series, and that's it. Even then, I think I only found that out because people talked about it on YouTube.

Both my brother Mike and AJ speak very highly of the show, so I will have to check it out at some point.

Overall, we thought this was a great episode. It's very dark and moody. It also highlights how much of a badass Bo-Katan is. She's much more perceptive and skilled than Din Djarin. We'll have to see how her involvement in the story plays out in future episodes. The fans seem to like her, and though she's lost all her clan, the writers found a way to keep her involved in Din and Grogu's story.

Another highlight was the jump scare. While not as startling the second time around, the creature design really stands out. Not sure if the character designers were inspired by Warhammer 40k, but AJ and I could definitely see what looks very much like a Necron Canoptek Spyder. There's no fooling nerds like us.

I have to thank AJ for introducing me to the Warhammer 40k universe. He let me borrow his copy of Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War on PC, and the rest was history. Fast forward to the release of Dawn of War: Dark Crusade and the introduction of the Necron as a playable faction. While the Canoptek Spyder hovers rather than uses its limbs, it's still a terrifying presence on the battlefield since they were a heavy melee unit if memory serves. They were also fast, which was helpful compared to the rest of the Necron, which move with a slow, deliberate lumber. I'll post another picture on Twitter. Even the design of this creature's head is similar, with multiple red sensors.

Even if it was inspired by a different sci-fi universe, the cyborg limbs also called back to General Grievous. Grievous's race is known as Kaleesh. His species looks very different from his metal faceplate, yet somewhat similar to the combat masks they wear. Similar to Grievous, it also had some sort of modularity to its design. The head detached from the body, which detached from the Canoptek Spyder, which could also independently operate the Spyder without the rest of the exoskeleton. That was really cool! I'll have to watch some more of Ryan Eary's Spoiler/Easter Egg breakdowns on the series to find out what this thing is, because I've never seen anything like it in any movie, game, or comic I've read.

Overall, a very interesting episode that I'm learning was much more impactful if you've seen the show Clone Wars. I haven't. Shame on me. However, I think some of the flashbacks of the fusion bombing of the planet help emphasize how devastating the bombardment was to the planet and also to the Mandalorians as a people.

Thanks for listening

Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast S3E2 The Mandalorian Chapter 18 The Mines of Mandalore04 Apr 202300:51:47

***VIDEO*** Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast S3E1 The Mandalorian Chapter 17 The Apostate04 Apr 202301:09:30

Howdy, my fellow Mandalorians! If you're reading this, then you know "this is the way" to lose some brain cells and listen to some thirty-somethings from the Midwest discuss a Disney+ TV show.

We're back in our new, exclusive podcast studio! We recently moved, but we still managed to finish off Andor while setting up the new studio. Some of us were out due to illness, others due to laziness. But not today! The main crew is here: AJ, my brother Mike, and myself just watched the first episode of season three of The Mandalorian, Chapter 17: "The Apostate."

This episode started off with a bang. Even after watching the recap, I realized I definitely need to re-watch seasons 1 & 2 of The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. As we dive into the third season, I want to share my thoughts on the previous seasons. I wasn't as big a fan of The Mandalorian as I was of Andor. We'll delve into that more in this episode.

Bottom line: I wasn't immediately impressed with either season 1 or 2 of The Mandalorian. I'll save my full opinion for a future episode, but in short, we (the fans) wanted a show about Boba Fett. Instead, we got the Mandalorian—a guy who is basically Boba Fett in everything but name, even choosing the same career path. Then came The Book of Boba Fett, and it turns out we actually preferred this unheard-of, nameless, faceless (at the time) bounty hunter who looks like Boba Fett but isn't actually him.

Like any smart company, Disney pivoted and leaned into The Mandalorian because their data suggested that the audience actually preferred it over Boba Fett. I don't envy Disney for trying to make a show about Boba Fett that all fans would love. With his extensive backstory in the Expanded Universe, it would be challenging to honor him without upsetting some of the fanbase. The choice to push forward with The Mandalorian was a smart one.

Here's hoping that Boba Fett makes an appearance and we see more of the most ruthless bounty hunter in the galaxy.

Thanks for listening! We definitely had fun recording this one.
