| The Bush Telegraph: Mon dieu! Did we say we liked dystopias? | 17 Apr 2025 | 00:32:28 | |
Things are looking very worrying over in America, so of course we're talking about that. But we manage to get in a lot of other stuff too, including workers' rights, good news about bad games, rich women in space, mean girls in tennis and some more dreadful French pronunciations.

| Rated or Dated: American Psycho (2000) | 16 Apr 2025 | 00:33:33 | |
Comedy? Horror? Satire? A full-length Huey Lewis and the News music video? There’s a lot going on in Mary Harron’s big screen adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’s controversial 1991 bestseller. Will Christian Bale’s much-lauded turn as Patrick Bateman blow Mick, Hannah and Jen away or turn their stomachs? What does a female director’s perspective bring to the exaggerated misogyny? Is any of it actually real? Do you like Phil Collins?

| The Bush Telegraph: A right old fiscal drag | 03 Apr 2025 | 00:28:17 | |
Mick and Jen are steeling themselves for the seven bill (sort of) increases rolling out across the country this week, as they chat budget bloopers and a 45p consolation prize. Meanwhile, it’s bleak news indeed as in the UK further crimes are alleged against serial rapist Zhenhao Zou, and across the pond, women in the US are up against infringements on democracy via the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act. Still, thank God for that new UTI drug, eh? In Jenny Off The Blocks there’s tennis, rugby, an April Fool's and Cilla Black.

| Rae Mainwaring’s Bright Places | 04 Nov 2024 | 00:24:30 | |
Writer and theatre-maker Rae Mainwaring was in her early 20s when she was diagnosed with Mutiple Sclerosis – MS as it's commonly known. All she knew of the autoimmune condition at the time was that every single representation she’d seen of it on TV was one of abject misery, which, ultimately, was not her experience of MS. Some years later, she wrote about her experiences in Bright Places, her Peggy Ramsay award-winning play and a deeply personal and authentic exploration of the condition.
Jen caught up with Rae ahead of a tour of Carbon Theatre’s production of Bright Places to talk about chronic illness, misunderstandings around MS, and getting into theatre later in life.
Bright Places is touring the UK until December 13

Also, Hannah puts her hand on a barbecue and takes her trousers off in a restaurant, Jen rescues her housemate from spiders but discovers she’s accidentally been murdering them, Mick does a terrible visual gag just perfect for podcasts and we discover what flavour of jelly is a beetle’s favourite.

| SIM Ep 96 Pod 32: flying solo, disabled creatives and imposter phenomenon | 21 Mar 2018 | 01:33:40 | |
In this episode, team Noonan, Dunleavy and Offord do a metric shit-tonne of learning. Seriously. Dr Terri Simpkin explains all about imposter phenomenon (and why it's not a syndrome) and cures Hannah (crikey!); career coach Sheila Chandra and actor/theatremaker Lisa Hammond, aka EastEnders' Donna Yates talk being disabled creatives, how government rhetoric, not to mention cuts, is making life harder for people with disabilities and reminisce about Grange Hill; travel writer Laura Jackson shares some corking tips for birds flying solo, and Cambridge cox Sophie Shapter talks the Boat Race. Obviously.
Jizzclowns abound in the Bush Telegraph and Netflix gets the starring role in Sexism of the Week. Also, there is A LOT of Phil Collins. Like, A LOT. Brace yourselves for Dunleavy Does Disney's Tarzan, kids – you can feel Phil coming in the air tonight. Oh lord.

In this episode, team Noonan, Dunleavy and Offord chat to author Helen Walmsley-Johnson about her new memoir, Look What You Made Me Do, a devastating but brilliant account of domestic violence and coercive control. There's ass-kicking birds, evil laughter and Trump ridiculousness in the Bush Telegraph, makeup and Kate Middleton in Sexism of the Week, sportsings in Jenny Off The Block and Dunleavy Does Disney's Up.

It's a Chops with a bit of a difference this week as our excellent @inspireajen inspires a you. Jen bloody loves her sportsings, but it wasn't always that way. She talks a bit about how and why her attitude to being active changed and chats to Sport England's Kate Dale about the need for #ThisGirlCan and fitness instructor Wendy Ambrose-Green about how you're never too old, unfit or shy to get into sport. Our Mick is trying to get back into running and shares a few pointers on how to love your trainers again, and, talking of trainers, Jen has the lowdown on bits of kit that are important to get right (tits and feet, pals, tits and feet).

| SIM Ep 70 Bitchin' 3: Toby Young | 13 Jan 2018 | 00:12:14 | |
It's Saturday Bitchin' and our Hannah's getting her tits in a twist again. Know who'd probably tweet about that? Toby (fucking) Young, Titmaster General and all-round ridiculous egg. Since we recorded this, he's stepped down from the Office for Students, presumably to concentrate on tweeting about the lady lumps, but there are many MANY reasons he should never have got the role in the first place. Over to you, Dunleavy.
