| Is it Wrong to Be an Organ Donor? – Questions with Father #49 – Fr. Palko | 22 Jun 2024 | 01:25:26 | |
On this week’s episode of the SSPX Podcast, we will be answering a fairly common listener question – and one we tackled very briefly in one of our earliest episodes years ago – What should Catholics think about organ donation? Fr. Ian Palko is back to discuss this topic which, like many others we’ve talked about recently, doesn’t have an easy, clear-cut answer. It seems, on the surface, like a great gift and an extraordinary act of charity to give someone an organ so they can live. But we’ll see it’s not so simple. This is a question that touches on morality, but also relies a great deal on prudence and circumstance. Thankfully, Father will guide us through these tricky points!

| Why do Catholics profess Mary's Perpetual Virginity? - Questions with Father #48 - Fr. Pezzutti | 14 Jun 2024 | 00:54:41 | |
On this week’s episode of the SSPX Podcast, we welcome again Fr. Shane Pezzutti to discuss what the Church professes concerning the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is a point of Catholic dogma that Our Lady’s virginity was perpetual, yet some Christians question this position based not only on conjecture, but ostensibly on the Bible. In this episode, we examine the question and explain, on the basis of Scripture and Tradition, why the Church states infallibly that Mary remained a virgin for her entire life. May is the perfect month to review some of these questions, not only to satisfy our reason, but to hopefully increase our devotion as well to this great privilege of our Blessed Mother. | Why do we believe Mary is Sinless? – Questions with Father #47 – Fr. Pezzutti | 07 Jun 2024 | 00:41:16
This week on the SSPX Podcast, we’re happy to welcome back Fr. Shane Pezzutti who will guide us through some recent listener questions regarding the Blessed Virgin Mary. Today we’ll look at the concept of her Immaculate Conception. Namely, how could it be that Mary was sinless? Do we have proof? Wasn’t Jesus the only one without sin and that this is precisely the reason God sent him to save us?
May is the perfect month to review some of these questions, not only to satisfy our reason, but to hopefully increase our devotion as well to this great privilege of our Blessed Mother.

| Pregnant out of Wedlock: The Catholic Answer - Questions with Father #45 - Fr. Palko | 17 May 2024 | 00:58:02 | |
This week on the SSPX Podcast we address the sensitive topic of pregnancies out of wedlock. These occurrences, though hopefully rare, do happen and Catholics should know how to address them prudently and in the light of Catholic moral teaching. Moreover, out-of-wedlock pregnancies raise a host of questions, with the most prevalent being, “Must the father and mother of the child enter into marriage?” This was the main question from a listener which sparked this episode. But Father Ian Palko and I will dive into some connected questions as well; concerning the relationship between unwed parents, their respective roles in a child’s life, and how we as Christians ought to treat them and their situation. In this episode, drawn from the archives of the SSPX Podcast, we address the question of why do some say “Holy Spirit” and others “Holy Ghost” when referring to the third person of the Holy Trinity. Do they mean the same thing? And if so, what are the origins of this terminological difference? And, most importantly, does it matter? | Biblical Chronology – Young Earth Creationism Pt. 3 – Questions with Father #44 – Fr. Robinson | 06 May 2024 | 01:31:55
Before the scientific discoveries of the late 19th century, most adherents of Catholicism and Protestantism believed that the earth and universe were 6000 years old, based on a chronology derived from the Bible. However, after the discovery of the radioactive behavior of atoms, developments in the study of geology, and accurate measurement of star distances provided solid scientific evidence for a universe and earth of an age in the billions of years, Catholic exegetes abandoned the idea that the earth was 6000 years old. Fundamentalist Protestants, however, clung to the idea that this was a teaching of the Bible, and seek to support their thesis by scientific evidence, by which they try to explain away the aforementioned discoveries.

| Didn’t the Church Say…? Young Earth Creationism Pt. 2 – Questions with Father #43 – Fr. Robinson | 26 Apr 2024 | 01:04:02 | |
On today’s episode of the SSPX Podcast, we continue our discussion from the last episode on Young Earth Creationism. As covered on the last episode, Catholics are not obligated to believe the earth or universe is 6,000 years old; it is not a question of faith. In this episode we examine more closely specific arguments which suggest that young-earth-creationism and geocentricism—a description of the universe that places earth at its center—are parts of the deposit of the Faith. In so doing, Fr. Paul Robinson helps Catholics further distinguish between what the Catholic Church teaches infallibly and scientific views of creation and the world which develop over time in the light of new research. | Are Catholics Obliged to Be Young Earth Creationists? Questions with Father #42 – Fr. Robinson | 19 Apr 2024 | 01:13:27
On today’s episode of the SSPX Podcast, we’ll dive back into our Questions with Father episodes with a topic we touched on about 6 years ago: Young Earth Creationism. Many Catholics claim that it is doctrinal, and morally necessary to believe that the earth was created in a particular time, or in a particular way. In this episode and a following one to come later, Fr. Paul Robinson will lay out the Catholic perspective on not just this topic, but broadly, what a Catholic should believe in terms of Scripture and Science. | Catholic Teaching on IVF - Questions with Father #41 - Fr. Palko | 13 Apr 2024 | 01:10:16
In vitro fertilization, or IVF, has been front and center in the news following the Alabama Supreme Court’s ruling that embryos created through IVF are legally “children” for the purposes of that state’s Wrongful Death of a Minor Act. In the wake of the decision, politicians, religious leaders, and laypeople who view themselves as “pro-life” have wrestled publicly with legal and practical questions surrounding IVF, including its availability. Catholics, for their part, know–or ought to know–that the Church opposes IVF, though many remain unsure as to why. If IVF assists couples in having children, is this not a good thing? What crucial moral issues does IVF raise and how should Catholics address them? In this timely episode, Fr. Ian Palko explains the mechanics of IVF while situating the procedure in a classical Catholic moral framework. He also stresses the importance of not separating procreation from its proper, marital context. | The Adverse Effects of Pornography: Digital Dangers #6 | 22 Mar 2024 | 00:53:40
The long lasting effects of pornography cannot be understated. Exposure to it, especially at a young age, can leave an imprint on the mind that remains for years. Repeated exposure often leads to addiction, which is not easily overcome. Although all things are possible with God’s grace, those who have been exposed to this harmful material must not only have recourse to the sacraments, but take strong proactive steps to eliminate future opportunities to view this sinful material. Parents must be especially vigilant to ensure that unprotected smart phones and other electronic devices are not left unattended lest the children entrusted to their care fall victim to this widespread evil.
The effects of material and what we as Catholics can do to protect ourselves and our children will be addressed by Father Jonathan Kopec on this sixth episode of Digital Dangers.

| Pornography Is Worse Than You Think: Digital Dangers #5 | 15 Mar 2024 | 00:45:19 | |
In this fifth installment in our ongoing Digital Dangers series, we confront one of the most troubling topics in the digital age: pornography. Although pornographic material has been around for literally thousands of years, never before in human history has it been so widely disseminated and easily accessible. The pornography industry, which generates tens of billions of dollars in annual revenue, profits off the addictive nature of this imagery while preying on the young. While Catholics are likely familiar with the grave moral issues surrounding this, they may not be fully aware of the psychological, emotional, and spiritual damage that this inflicts. Further, addiction to pornography can have long-lasting social effects, including breaking apart marriages, inhibiting interpersonal relationships, and standing as an impediment to religious or priestly vocations. | Social Media: Digital Dangers #4 | 09 Mar 2024 | 00:56:42
In this fourth episode of our ongoing Digital Dangers series, we explore one of the most dominant aspects of our digital age: social media. Platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and X–formerly known as Twitter–allow literally billions of people to share content around the world in seconds. Much of this content is relatively benign, with people sharing family photos, updates on major life events, or thoughts on their favorite sports teams and television shows. However, these platforms also allow for the spread of disinformation, profanity, and other harmful material on an unprecedented scale. Individuals and entities can mislead users and advance their own causes without concern for the truth. | Alabama IVF Controversy: the Catholic Position - Questions with Father #41 Preview - Fr. Palko | 05 Mar 2024 | 00:06:10
In vitro fertilization, or IVF, is in the headlines following an Alabama Supreme Court decision holding that frozen embryos can be considered children under the law. While many Catholics laud this decision, just as many if not more are unaware of the Church’s teaching on IVF and the serious moral questions raised by this practice. What is the SSPX?The main goal of the Society of Saint Pius X is to preserve the Catholic Faith in its fullness and purity, to teach its truths, and to diffuse its virtues, especially through the Roman Catholic priesthood. Authentic spiritual life, the sacraments, and the traditional liturgy are its primary means of bringing this life of grace to souls. | Screens and Shallow Learning: Digital Dangers #3 * | 01 Mar 2024 | 01:05:03
We’ll continue exploring the effects of modern technology on our lives, particularly our mental and spiritual health. As discussed in the last episode, technological tools such as smartphones and state-of-the-art search engines like Google grant us unprecedented access to nearly unlimited information. In addition, algorithms and tracking software lead us through a sea of content calibrated to our interests, which keeps us fixed to our devices. In this episode, we discuss why this is dangerous and what we can do to place ourselves on guard against an overwhelming amount of content, much of which is misleading and potentially harmful. Ultimately we ask, How do we separate the digital wheat from the chaff? These and other salient points will be addressed by Father Jonathan Kopec on this third episode of Digital Dangers. | How Does Technology Affect Us? Digital Dangers #2 | 24 Feb 2024 | 00:48:36
Today, in the second part of our ongoing series Digital Dangers, we examine the effects of modern technology on our mental fitness, spiritual well being, and even our physical health. While technology such as smartphones, state-of-the-art search engines, and artificial intelligence give us access to vast reservoirs of information, are we harming ourselves intellectually through the superficial acquisition of knowledge? What adverse effects does this technology have on brain development and can it lead to addiction? Moreover, is technology damaging our capacity to have interpersonal relationships and, most importantly, a relationship with God? | The Final Thought: Why Should I Become Catholic? Apologetics #42 | 10 Feb 2024 | 00:42:21
On the final episode of the Apologetics Series, we answer one last remaining question, “How do we know with certainty that we should join the Catholic Church?” Over the past 41 episodes we have shown that God exists, that His Word is true, that we can find Him, that Jesus is Him, and that the Church was given to us for our salvation. Yet we may still wonder if we should join an institution that has had corrupt leaders throughout history and today appears to be self-contradictory at points. Fr. David Sherry will join us for the final word. View on YouTube:

On today’s episode of the SSPX Podcast, we continue with the “Why Not” questions about what is reasonable to believe. In this episode, we turn our attention to Judaism. The Jewish people were the chosen people of God with whom He made a divine Covenant. Given this, is it true that this Covenant is still valid? Following the coming of Jesus Christ and the founding of the Church, is it right to practice Judaism today? View on YouTube:

| Mormonism: A False American Religion – Apologetics #40 | 13 Jan 2024 | 01:25:03 | |
On today’s episode of the SSPX Podcast, we continue with the “Why Not” questions about what is reasonable to believe. In this episode, we examine Mormonism or, as it is officially known, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. On the surface, there are many similarities between Mormon families and traditional Catholic families. Their values seem to match up. But even though the surface is similar, there are substantial differences between Mormon beliefs and Christianity. View on YouTube:
| Is the God of Islam the Same as the God of Abraham? Apologetics #39 | 10 Jan 2024 | 01:11:54 | |
On today’s episode of the SSPX Podcast, we continue with the “Why Not” questions about what is or is not reasonable to believe by examining Islam. Islam is the second largest religion in the world behind Christianity and therefore warrants special attention. To help unpack this religion, we review the so-called “Five Pillars of Islam” while exploring whether it has some of the same basic roots as Judaism and Christianity. View on YouTube:
| False Pagan Religions: Animism, Hinduism, and Buddhism -Apologetics #38 | 23 Dec 2023 | 01:08:51 | |
On today’s episode of the SSPX Podcast, we’ll start our last batch of episodes – those dealing with the “why not” questions about what is reasonable to believe. Today we’ll be looking at the basic premise of Paganism – why Polytheism, animism, spiritualism, even if they have been at times very popular in history, and seem to be trendy now, simply don’t make sense to the reasonable person. We’ll see how, based on logic, the ideas inherent in Hinduism, Buddhism, and native or aboriginal spiritualities simply won’t match up to reality. You can find notes to all these episodes at sspxpodcast.com/apologetics, as well as all our previous episodes. There as well, you can find a link to help support this project. This is free to listen to, as well as all the resources we’re posting, but if you can help with a one time or a small monthly recurring donation, you’ll be making sure that we can continue this work of producing good Catholic content on a regular basis. | Catholics Worship Mary! …and other Myths About Saints: Apologetics #37 | 16 Dec 2023 | 01:17:41
This is one of the most common objections to the Catholic Faith, namely that Catholics pray to Mary and the saints instead of going directly to Jesus. This criticism, common among Protestants, is often rooted in the Bible’s directive to go directly to Jesus and His Father.
| Is it Reasonable to Believe in the 7 Sacraments? – Apologetics #36 | 09 Dec 2023 | 00:39:46 | |
Today we’ll see how the other 5 sacraments are reasonable and logical. Can we show that Our Lord instituted these sacraments? Can we show that there is an unbroken tradition of belief in them, and that there is there a better answer than “the Catholic Church says so”?
| District Superior of Asia Fr. Patrick Summers – Interview Series #9 | 02 Dec 2023 | 01:02:50 | |
On this special episode of the SSPX Interview Series, we're joined by Fr. Patrick Summers, the District Superior of Asia for the Society of St. Pius X. Father Summers shares some of the unique challenges and stories of the life of Tradition in the missions and encourages us to pray that the Lord send more laborers into the vineyard.
| How Can We Prove the Eucharist is Our Lord? – Apologetics #35 | 25 Nov 2023 | 00:53:20 | |
On today’s episode of the SSPX Podcast, we begin the first of two episodes on the sacraments, and show that not only are they necessary, but they are rooted in Scripture. In this installment, we look specifically at the concept of the Mass as a sacrifice and the priesthood. Does God really require sacrifice? And what about the Mass itself? Did Our Lord intend us to take Him literally when he declared that the Eucharist really is His Body and Blood? By examining Scripture and Tradition, show this to be true.
| Sexual Morality, Transgenderism, LGBTQ+, Abortion, Euthanasia – Apologetics #34 | 18 Nov 2023 | 01:35:10 | |
On today’s episode of the SSPX Podcast, we continue discussing the concept of morality with Fr. Palko. In the last two episodes, we looked at morality in a theoretical and principled way. Today, we examine specific moral issues while tackling traditional moral positions that contemporary society views as “outdated" regarding sexuality, abortion, euthanasia, organ transplants, and more.
| What’s More Important, Morality or Conscience? – Apologetics #33 | 11 Nov 2023 | 01:19:55 | |
Last episode, we saw that an objective moral law exists. Now we begin to explore what this means for our lives. Are there circumstances where the same action can be more or less bad? What role does conscience play in making moral choices? Does an individual’s conscience “reign supreme,” as is often said? Finally, there is often talk about how we should not judge someone’s motivations, but is that true?
| Is There Such a thing as Morality?- Apologetics #32 | 05 Nov 2023 | 01:19:30 | |
On today’s episode of the SSPX Podcast, we continue our Apologetics Series by looking at the concept of morality. This is the first of three episodes on the morality, with each one examining a unique spect of this topic. First, we explore if there is such a thing as objective and universal moral truth. For instance, are moral rules the same for all people across cultures? If there is universal morality, how do we know what it is and who is in charge of enforcing these rules?
| Is it Logical that Hell and Purgatory Would Exist?- Apologetics #31 | 29 Oct 2023 | 00:56:44 | |
On today’s episode of the SSPX Podcast, we continue the Apologetics Series by looking at what is commonly called, “The Last Four Things” – that is: heaven, hell, purgatory, and judgement. What happens after we die? Is it fitting that we will be judged by God? And is it compatible with our understanding of God that we could either spend an eternity in a paradise beyond our knowledge, or in a place of suffering that will never end? These topics and more will be addressed in this episode.
| Do We Have a Choice in Our Own Salvation? – Apologetics #30 | 22 Oct 2023 | 01:05:07 | |
On today’s episode of the SSPX Podcast, we’ll continue our Apologetics Series by furthering our understanding on one of the more complex issues dividing various Christian denominations – Predestination. We know that God knows all things – so He knows whether we will achieve salvation. So, why does it matter whether we do anything for our own justification, if God already knows the outcome? Protestants will further say we can’t help with our own salvation since we are so damaged. What’s the answer?
| How Do We Save Our Souls? Faith, Works, or Both? – Apologetics #29 | 15 Oct 2023 | 01:04:34 | |
On today’s episode of the SSPX Podcast, we’ll continue our Apologetics Series by looking at Justification – or how to get to Heaven. How are we justified? Did Christ do all the work through Redemption? Do we simply need to believe that His infinite merits are enough or do we need to do something more? The Catholic understanding of justification is one of the major dividing points between the Church and Protestantism, and so Fr. Loop is here to assist us in sorting out this critical but often misunderstood theological concept.
| How Are We Supposed to Interpret Holy Scripture? – Apologetics #28 | 08 Oct 2023 | 01:22:31 | |
This episode of the SSPX Podcast continues the Apologetics Series by examining further one of the fonts of revelation: Sacred Scripture. Having previously discussed the truth of the Bible and its divine inspiration, the Podcast turns to a major point of contention between Catholics and other Christian denominations, namely the interpretation of Scripture and the role the Church plays in safeguarding and disseminating a correct understanding of these sacred texts.
| Is the Catholic Church Believable? What are its Attributes? – Apologetics #27 | 01 Oct 2023 | 01:26:46 | |
Over the last few episodes, we’ve identified some concerns about the Church – today, we’ll look at the attributes of the Church – or what the Church needs to have in order to be real, and believable. Does the Catholic Church fit all the criteria for believability?
| Is the Catholic Church Anti-Science? Galileo Explained – Apologetics #26 | 16 Sep 2023 | 01:05:05 | |
There may not be another singular person who is a source of such controversy throughout the history of the Catholic Church. And, Galileo is the favorite tool that many use to claim that the Church is backwards, anti-science, anti-reason, and more. So what’s the story with Galileo? And why did the Catholic Church react the way she did when Galileo was making his amazing discoveries?
| Corruption in the Church! Apologetics #25 | 09 Sep 2023 | 01:37:35 | |
Like last episode, when we faced some of the worst popes we’ve ever had, today, we’ll look at some of the worst instances of human corruption the Church has ever had. From illegitimate indulgences, to clerics throughout history helping their family members, and all sorts of other bad actors, we’ll try to understand how to balance the divine nature of the Church with her very human members.
| We’ve Had Awful Popes. How Can the Catholic Church be Good? – Apologetics #24 | 02 Sep 2023 | 01:13:12 | |
we’ll continue our Apologetics Series by looking squarely and unapologetically at some of the worst men who have ever sat on the throne of St. Peter. And there have been more than a few. What are we as Catholics to think about this? How can the Catholic Church be true, be inspired by God if these men were at the helm?
| Did the Catholic Church Commit Cultural Genocide? Apologetics #23 | 26 Aug 2023 | 01:34:15 | |
For hundreds of years, the critics argue, the Catholic Church spearheaded a cultural genocide across the globe, replacing vibrant indigenous cultures with white European culture. So… is it true? What impact did the Church have on exploratory missions? Did conversion lead to colonization?
| Were the Inquisitions Bad? Apologetics #22 | 19 Aug 2023 | 01:11:02 | |
It all starts with the basic concept of how should the Church deal with heresies? What does a trial for a crime against truth look like – and what should it look like? Throughout history, were there abuses of this process by the Church or by the civil authorities? Or is it all completely exaggerated? There’s lots of info that Dr. Rao will help us uncover.
| Were the Crusades Bad? – Apologetics # 21 | 12 Aug 2023 | 01:23:31 | |
We're starting to look at some of the more controversial aspects of Church History. Over the next 6 episodes, we’ll have Dr. John Rao join us to look at the “hot button issues” that are commonly used to attack the faith. Today we’ll start by looking at the Crusades. Were they good, or were they bad? Or, is it a lot more complicated than that? How did the Crusades impact the growth of Roman Catholicism, and how did they impact the relationship between East and West?
| Christ’s Miracles: Exaggerated Stories or Real? Is There Proof? – Apologetics #20 | 08 Aug 2023 | 01:31:42 | |
Fr. Ian Palko will join us again to look specifically at the Miracles that the New Testament says Our Lord performed. Did he actually perform these, or are these just made up stories, passed from word of mouth, and finally collected in the New Testament as fodder for a new religion? How can we possibly prove these fantastic stories from nearly 2,000 years ago as being accurate?
| What are “The Marks of the Church”? – Apologetics #19 | 29 Jul 2023 | 01:01:45 | |
Now we’ll start to see what religion needs to look like, so that it’s not just something we believe in, like a myth or a legend. What is the most fundamental principle of a religion, if it is going to be true? We’ll ask Fr. Leo Anthony Haynos, who teaches this exact topic at St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary.
| Why Multiple True Religions Is Impossible – Apologetics #18 | 21 Jul 2023 | 00:43:39 | |
We’ve already seen in Episode 5 that we have to practice a religion, but now we’ll start to see what that religion needs to look like, so that it’s not just something we believe in, like a myth or a legend. What is the most fundamental principle of a religion, if it is going to be true?
| The Pope: First Among Equals, or Monarch of the Church? – Apologetics #17 | 20 Jul 2023 | 01:38:17 | |
There are tons of theories about who holds authority within the Catholic Church. Is the pope one of multiple patriarchs, who need to share power? Or is he the supreme, absolute monarch of the entire Catholic Church? How can we use Scripture and Tradition to answer this?
