A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987): "Come and Get Me, Bitch" ft. Diandra Lazor01 Oct 202401:58:16
Can you believe we're kicking off our fifth year of Spooky Tuesday? It's like something out of a dream... which gave us an idea. For the premiere of our latest and greatest season yet, we decided it was time to let our wildest imaginations run away with us as we cover A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987). But we knew we weren't prepared to face one of horror's most famous boogeymen alone this time, so we invited a friend to help guide us. A Freddy aficionado and self-proclaimed FredHead, Diandra Lazor is a franchise superfan, and she was ready to share her expert insight, show off her vast array of Krueger clothes, and help us channel a certain spooky star as we say, "Welcome to Season 5, bitch!"

Paranormal Activity (2009) & Paranormal Activity 2 (2010): "Rage Bait"24 Sep 202402:16:05
Don’t tell us you thought the double features were over! We’re having a two-movie Tuesweek extravaganza here at Spooky Tuesday, and given the fact that this is our Season 4 finale, it only felt right to go out with a bang. That’s why we knew we had to turn our Paranormal Activity (2009) episode into a movie marathon, especially since Paranormal Activity 2 (2010) dovetails so nicely with the first. Or does it? For our final episode of the season, we’re breaking into the found footage franchise as we explore the lore and try to control our rage reactions enough to have a civilized conversation.

It’s not just our season finale — it’s also the last day to order our fall merch! We've got an exciting new merch design available on shirts, sweatshirts, and tote bags(!!!!), and we've also got Spooky Tuesday logo beanies ready to keep your head warm all the way 'til spring. Our shop closes on Tuesday, September 24 at 11:59 p.m., so don’t miss your chance to get your order in. Happy Spooky Season!

MaXXXine (2024): "Scream 3 Wannabe"23 Jul 202402:09:52

It's the third film in a hot horror franchise AND it makes the hop to Hollywood, so the comparisons between MaXXXine (2024) and Scream 3 were inevitable — but are they a compliment or a criticism? In our latest episode of Spooky Tuesday, we're covering the newest (but perhaps not final) movie in Ti West's spooky saga starring Mia Goth. A direct sequel to 2022's X but coming on the heels of prequel Pearl, this flick has a tough job striking the right tone and trying to stand alone, but one thing we can say for it is that the accent work definitely makes it stand out.

The Sixth Sense (1999): "LG(host)B(oy)TQIA+"11 Oct 202201:41:34

Are you one of the very lucky moviegoers who got to go into The Sixth Sense (1999) totally blind? M. Night Shyamalan’s first big flick rocked audiences when it hit theaters, and that famous twist in the final few minutes had people talking for years. For us, though, the real reveal was that Toni Collette is in this film — and that she is arguably the best part of it. On a new Spooky Tuesday, we’re talking about what we remembered, what we forgot, and who wanted to get their dicks out in what has to be one of the most quoted movies of all time.

Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982): "27 More Days 'Til Halloween"04 Oct 202201:52:34

In our Season 3 premiere, it’s time for Spooky Tuesday to take our own crack at the classic horror question: “Can you really make a Halloween™? movie without Michael Myers?” That’s right, we’re rolling out the red carpet for a whole new spooky season, and we’re starting with Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982). Sharing more DNA with a film like Invasion of the Body Snatchers than a slasher flick, the third installment in John Carpenter and Debra Hill’s franchise tried to get back to their basic concept, but how well they pulled it off is still up for debate.

Final Destination 5 (2011): "Handy Dandy Notebook"27 Sep 202201:57:42

The end of September can only mean one thing: It’s time for Spooky Tuesday to bring Final Destination Summer to a close. But we’re still celebrating in style! On our fifth and final episode of the series, we’re joined by a special guest and his handy dandy notebook as Spencer, Sydney’s new spooky son, helps us break down Final Destination 5 (2011). With this movie featuring some of the most iconic deaths in the franchise and the much-anticipated return of Tony Todd, we’ve got a lot to discuss — and we’ve also got some theories to float for Final Destination 6.

Teeth (2007): "The Jonas Brothers Agenda"20 Sep 202201:26:52

Remember how the Jonas Brothers used to wear purity rings? Spooky Tuesday does. On a new episode, we’re covering Teeth (2007), the mid-aughts horror movie that gave Monica the perfect opening to insert her JoBros super fan agenda. But when you’re talking about a movie like this, you have to be cautious what you insert and where, so we’re doing our best to breakdown a film all about nuclear radiation, Christianity, brother fucking, and evolution with the utmost of care.

Tragedy Girls (2017): "Josh Hutcherson, Jump Scare"13 Sep 202201:31:25

Did someone request a horror movie for girls??? When it comes to our latest scary flick pick, it’s literally in the name. On this week’s episode of Spooky Tuesday, Chelsea’s birth month movie is Tragedy Girls (2017), a touching tale of two besties with benefits if by benefits you mean a collaborative true crime project. If you’ve ever wished for a Scream alternate universe where Billy and Stu are modern day girlies, then this just might be the movie for you.

Urban Legend (1998): "Being Gay Saves Lives"06 Sep 202201:35:37

Legend has it that Urban Legend (1998) didn’t get a fair shake from critics back when it first came out — but we’ll be the judge of that here at Spooky Tuesday. With school back in session, it only felt right that we revisit the college campus cult classic on our newest episode. Packed full of turn-of-the-millennium era stars like Tara Reid, Joshua Jackson, Rebecca Gayheart, and Michael Rosenbaum and with plenty of CLEAR references to other famous horror franchises, this film is definitely worthy of a close study.

Chicago (2002): "No Mr. Cellophane Slander"30 Aug 202201:40:09

When we realized our 100th episode of Spooky Tuesday was just around the corner, we knew we had to pick something extra special to celebrate — something fun, something for the girls, something with a lil ?razzle dazzle.? And given that our milestone movie *also* happened to fall on a Fifth Tuesday, a sacred institution, we knew that there was only one film for the job: Chicago (2002). With a star-studded cast, a banger soundtrack, and a generous handful of Oscars, this flick absolutely IS all that jazz, and our podcast lawyer is helping us break it all down.

The Final Destination (2009): "Vibe Check"23 Aug 202201:36:33

Is it just us or did they step the gore up a notch for The Final Destination (2009)? Despite the distinct lack of Tony Todd, the powers that be were clearly trying to make something special out of the franchise’s 3D sequel, and they clearly wanted the series to go out with a bang (literally). Only, the thing about The Final Destination is that it’s not *actually* the final Final Destination, so where does that leave it? With all kinds of CLEAR (Rivers) references and iconic credits, though, this one is definitely still worth the watch, so help us keep Final Destination Summer going here on a new Spooky Tuesday.

Bodies Bodies Bodies (2022): "Lee Pace Is 6'5"16 Aug 202201:31:56

Is there *really* anything you need to know about Bodies Bodies Bodies (2022) other than the fact that Lee Pace is 6’5”? Honestly, in our opinion, that should be compelling enough to get anybody to see A24’s latest horror flick in theaters, but opinions after that may differ widely. On a new Spooky Tuesday, we’re talking all about the Gen Z mystery movie, but here are a few more selling points just in case you need them: Amandla Stenberg is so cute. Rachel Sennott is a gift. If you are our friend who hate listens to our podcast, this one is dedicated to you.

Nope (2022): "Ancient Aliens Girlie"09 Aug 202201:51:53

Who knew that sitting in the very first row could actually enhance the movie going experience? When it comes to Jordan Peele’s latest blockbuster horror, a seat that forces you to tilt your head all the way back is actually pretty on theme — and, as it turns out, our recent line up has been pretty on theme, too. On a new episode of Spooky Tuesday, we’re talking all things Nope (2022), including the CLEAR references to flicks like Final Destination 3, Tremors, and Jaws, because we definitely did this on purpose.

Disturbia (2007): "Me So Horny"16 Jul 202401:39:17

Where were you that April if you weren't seeing Disturbia (2007) in theaters? It was the year of Shia, and a new creepy classic was emerging out of the mid-aughts. This flick is a quintessential millennial movie, an updated take on Hitchcock's Rear Window (though legally we should warn you that we're not speaking literally, because there's like legit drama there). It also shares a name with an iconic Rihanna song that'll get stuck in your head faster than you can ask, "What's wrong with me? Why do I feel like this?" On our latest episode of Spooky Tuesday, we're doing our best not to break into song too much as we throw it back to our earlier horror days.

Tremors (1990): "Marga-REBA-ville"02 Aug 202201:22:20

We’d like to tell you we don’t spend our entire Tremors (1990) episode talking about a single mom who works two jobs (who loves her kids and never stops), but if we did, we’d be lying. On our latest episode of Spooky Tuesday, we may have gotten a little swept up in the hype of a certain country music star turned silver screen siren. That said, we did also find some time to discuss OT3s, creative new curse words, the merits of pole vaulting, and new restaurant franchise ideas (oops, that one’s Reba again!).

Final Destination 3 (2006): "Mary Elizabeth Winstead ??"26 Jul 202201:38:20

Final Destination Summer is back, baby, and it’s finally time to talk about the installment that is (in our very humble opinion) the absolute best of the best. On this week’s Spooky Tuesday, we’re heading to the end of the line with Final Destination 3 (2006) — and we’re ready for a wild rollercoaster ride. Not only is this film home to the iconic tanning beds scene (perhaps THEEE scene of the franchise), it’s also got a banger script and features one of our absolute favorite Sky High stars. Step on us, Mary Elizabeth Winstead!!!!

Jaws (1975): "Gag Stab™"19 Jul 202201:36:38

Need a little warm up — or foreplay, if you will — for everyone’s favorite week dedicated to aquatic-themed entertainment? On a new Spooky Tuesday, we’re going for a swim with one of the most iconic horror movies of all time (and, frankly, one of the most iconic movies just in general) as we take on Jaws (1975). The film may honestly be kind of minimalist considering how much of it is just three guys on a boat, but we’ve got plenty to say about their chest hair, their strangely endearing toasts, and their lil fishy friend. As the iconic Degrassi promo goes, “Baby, there’s a shark in the water.”

The Black Phone (2022): "Finbin Forever"12 Jul 202201:28:54

So it’s a confirmed fact that The Black Phone (2022) is *not* scarier than Top Gun: Maverick, but it might be a contender for most depressing movie of the year. On this week’s Spooky Tuesday, we’re venturing back out to the theater for a film that features Ethan Hawke as a makeup-loving magician, child stars saying copious curse words, and a group of youths chanting “Bruce! Bruce! Bruce!” à la Matilda. A new release that throws it back to the ‘70s, this Joe Hill adaptation is helping us push our Ghost Whisperer/Mediator series agenda.

Cabin Fever (2002): "Hashtag Woman On Top"05 Jul 202201:37:55

Anyone else suddenly craving pancakes??? This week on Spooky Tuesday, we’re heading back out to the woods, a place where absolutely nothing good happens, with Cabin Fever (2002). Starring Boy Meets World’s Shawn Hunter as that “nice guy” you’ve been curving for the past few years and featuring a true-to-life shaving scene that will make your skin crawl, this horror story hits a little close to home for more reasons than one.

Final Destination 2 (2003): "Tony Todd Wink"28 Jun 202201:37:24

Ready for the return of this year’s most exciting event???? It’s Final Destination Summer here at Spooky Tuesday, and we’re back for another round with Final Destination 2 (2003). A film that tries to put its own special touches on the first movie’s mythology, FD2 starts with the infamous log truck disaster and then switches gears as it reverses through death’s order (or something) to feature sneaky trips to the salon, an implied pro-abortion message, and a special little wink from Tony Todd himself.

Fear Street Part One: 1994 (2021): "Lesbian Jump Scare"21 Jun 202201:29:29

You should know by now that there’s little we love more than a surprise lesbian reveal here at Spooky Tuesday — and when a movie pulls that off while throwing in a handful of Scream references, Maya Hawke, and one of the best deaths we’ve ever seen, you know it’s going to be a winner in our book. Fear Street Part One: 1994 (2021) is only the first third of a trilogy, but the way it starts the story off with a bang earned it a place in our Pride Month Lineup. With (debatably) iconic dialogue and intense Riverdale vibes, this sapphic story is at the very least a good time.

A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge (1985): "Drenched Man Count"14 Jun 202201:46:25

There’s some debate about whether the writer intended for it to be a canonically queer movie, but A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge (1985) is pretty much the gayest thing we’ve ever seen. After one of our OG Spooky Crew members checked out the flick ahead of time, we knew we had to make it a part of our Pride Month Lineup — and we had to invite him to join us. On this week’s Spooky Tuesday, pal Danny Dunitz helps us break down not only the second film in the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, but also star Mark Patton’s Scream, Queen! documentary about his experience with the role.

Let The Right One In (2008): "A Twilight Contemporary"07 Jun 202201:47:26

We know you’re reading supernatural romance novels in Swedish, Stephenie Meyer!!! There are way too many similarities between Twilight and Let The Right One In (2008) for it to be a coincidence, but there is at least one major difference. Namely, one has sparkles, and the other has a sparkling array of trans and queer characters which makes it the perfect way to kick off our Pride Month Lineup. That’s right, the John Ajvide Lindqvist project follows the sacred rule of vampire media: It’s made for the gays — but that doesn’t mean we don’t have ideas about how it could be even gayer. Come for the trans vampires, but stay for what we’re pretty sure are gay dads.

Josie and the Pussycats (2001): "Join The Army"31 May 202201:45:05

It’s no secret that Josie and the Pussycats (2001) is The Best Movie Ever (join the army!), so it was only a matter of time before we covered it here on Spooky Tuesday. It may not technically be a horror movie, but it is in its own way a murder mystery — and given that it’s been just about a year since we first came up with the concept of Fifth Tuesday, we knew its day had finally come. A musical comedy with a banger soundtrack and a killer cast, this flick didn’t get the appreciation and critical acclaim it deserved twenty years ago, but we’re doing our part to make up for that now as we talk about the romantic tension between Josie and Valerie, how absolutely iconic Fiona is, and everything that DuJour means (friendship, crash positions, etc).

Sleepaway Camp II: Unhappy Campers (1988): "Should Be A Musical"09 Jul 202401:39:22

They didn't put an extra ~camp~ in the title for nothing! Sleepaway Camp II: Unhappy Campers (1988) is the sequel that did the absolute most by doing the absolute least. What this movie lacks in plot, it makes up for in pizzazz — and "party hats" galore. Seriously, it has its own in-universe Tit Patrol, and business is booming at Camp Rolling Hills. But while this flick may not have reached its full potential (a few camp songs does not a musical make), its CLEAR references and low-key celebrity siblings mean it's still more than worth a watch. On our latest Spooky Tuesday, we're comparing notes on our favorite quotes and kills as Angela returns for a second summer of fun.

Final Destination (2000): "Death Is Inevitable"24 May 202201:43:00

Hope everyone has their “Rocky Mountain High” hit clips ready, because we’re traveling back to the start of the new millennium to kick off our Final Destination Summer! That’s right: We’re heading all the way back to the beginning with Final Destination (2000), and we’ll be covering one of the sequels every month for the next five months. No spoilers though!!! Not all of us have seen every movie in the franchise, but we can’t wait to hide behind our hands and cringe our way through each and every agonizing death to come.

X (2022): "Big Dick, Bigger Heart"17 May 202201:44:19

Kid Cudi, we don’t mean to be disrespectful, but — speaking strictly as film critics — we have some questions about a certain scene in X (2022). The new Ti West movie has been on everyone’s minds, and now it’s our turn to take a visit to the best little porn house in Texas. Yes, that’s a Dolly Parton reference, and apparently so is Brittany Snow’s whole performance. With a cast that also includes Jenna Ortega, Mia Goth x2, and the dad from 2002's The Ring, this ‘70s-style slasher had us hiding behind our hands in theaters.

Carrie (1976): "An Ode to Sex Education"10 May 202201:44:34

Here at Spooky Tuesday, we believe sex education is SO important, which is why we spent the objectively correct and exactly appropriate amount of time reflecting on our own history of menstruation on our Carrie (1976) episode. That’s right, the Sissy Spacek cinematic masterpiece arrived just in time for prom season, so don’t forget to get all gussied up and ready for your date with John Travolta’s fluffy hair, P.J. Soles’ rainbow hat, and a whole lot of ‘70s-era bush.

May (2002): "May, Go Gay"03 May 202201:38:57

May (2002) is a Frankenstein monster of a movie made out of bits and pieces picked out just for us. Set right down the street from Monica’s place with an aggressive lesbian for Chelsea and some blood play for Sydney, it really seems like Lucky McKee’s indie flick was tailored exactly to Spooky Tuesday’s tastes — well, almost. Starring Angela Bettis, Jeremy Sisto, and Anna Faris, this horror has an ending that could make us forgive pretty much any other misstep. After all, Polly’s grandma says it’s the imperfections that make things special.

Halloween (1978): "Babies Beware"26 Apr 202201:46:04

We’ve gotta admit it: We were a little nervous to dip our toes into one of the most famous franchises around, but with the end of April right around the corner, we knew it was time. We’re starting the six month countdown to the spookiest day of the year by celebrating the holiday’s half-birthday the most iconic way we know how: with Halloween (1978). The film that launched Michael Myers to horror icon status and kicked off Freaky Friday star Jamie Lee Curtis’s career as a scream queen, John Carpenter’s classic knows just how to set the mood.

V/H/S (2012): "Big Ick"19 Apr 202201:54:29

New liminal space just dropped!! On a new Spooky Tuesday, we’re popping V/H/S (2012) in the ol’ VCR as we watch our first ever anthology film. Packed into this one movie are five horror shorts — and one overarching story that connects all of the individual pieces. Filled with truly haunting, horrifying realities and the blessed catharsis of men-eating monsters, this is one project that dares to ask the question, “Is there such a thing as a good boy in this godforsaken world?”

House on Haunted Hill (1959): "Rat Skeleton and The Vat of Acid"12 Apr 202201:25:06

Quick question: Should we start an experimental metal supergroup even though we can’t play any instruments? We came up with the best band name on a new Spooky Tuesday as we tackled House on Haunted Hill (1959), the Vincent Price classic that had a huge domino effect on horror as we know it. This is the film that inspired Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho — and it also, at one moment in the film, inspired all three of us to immediately and in unison announce that a scene was gay, gay, gay, gay, super gay, gay. Ghoulish and goofy, it’s hard to imagine how we might’ve viewed this film back in the day, but we gave it a shot by committing to only watching the black and white version.

Fresh (2022): "No My Ass Noooo"05 Apr 202201:41:19

The thing about dating is there’s only one way to win and about one million different ways to lose — which is part of what makes Fresh (2022) so horrifying. The Daisy Edgar-Jones/Sebastian Stan flick tells a whole cautionary tale in the first 33 minutes, and that’s just before the title sequence even begins. On a new episode of Spooky Tuesday, we’re talking about how public sex is the only answer, what kind of sequel we’d want to see, and how you should always turn your location on for your friends (cough, Monica, cough).

Bedazzled (2000): "It’s The Brendanaissance, Baby”29 Mar 202201:23:25

Everybody loves a comeback story — and everybody loves Brendan Fraser, which is why we’re thrilled to do our part for the Brendanaissance by giving Bedazzled (2000) the honor of being our second ever Fifth Tuesday film. A movie that almost (almost!!) makes it hard to root for everyone’s favorite turn-of-the-century leading man, Bedazzled is serving character growth, monkey’s paw messiness, and, most importantly, Elizabeth Hurley in a red leather pantsuit.

Troll 2 (1990): "It’s Giving Shrek Ketchup"22 Mar 202201:47:19

Don’t let the name fool you — there’s no movie out there quite like Troll 2. Well, except for maybe Leprechaun. And Society. And The Princess Bride. And commercials for the Heinz ketchup collab with Shrek. But other than that, this 1990-era movie is truly one of a kind. Given a pseudo-sequel name and yet telling its own original story (about goblins, despite any possible confusion), Troll 2 is often lauded as the best worst movie out there, and they’ve got the behind-the-scenes documentary to prove it.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978): "Shit Is Just Fuck'd"15 Mar 202201:38:50

Are we starting to sense a theme? Anaconda and Little Shop of Horrors had a lot in common — and now Little Shop is the perfect segue into our next film. On this week’s Spooky Tuesday, we’re throwing it back to the ‘70s with Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978), and space flowers are once again super relevant. But invading aliens aren’t the only thing this flick has going for it. Famously one of the best remakes of all time (and often considered even better than the ’56 original), this movie has an incredible cast, gorgeous opening credits, classic art history allusions, and some seriously sizzling sexual chemistry. Oh, and it also has Jeff Goldblum taking a mud bath — what else could you possibly want?

Little Shop of Horrors (1986): "Bill Does Sex Murray"08 Mar 202201:38:13

What if we only talked about the ending of this movie? On our new episode, we’re all about Little Shop of Horrors (1986) — or at least the last few minutes of it. Compared to the stage play, the movie musical goes in a majorly different direction, and, uh, we’ve got some feelings about it. But we swear we do move on eventually, because it’s just as important that we talk about all of the CLEAR references to Anaconda, the iconic ear worm quality of every single song, and the TRUE meaning of BDSM. Just don’t forget to also check out the alternate ending, OK?

Anaconda (1997): "Snake-O-Vision"01 Mar 202201:32:57

Wait, is Owen Wilson a little scream king? As Sydney pointed out during this episode, this is actually our second spooky movie featuring him — and what a spooky movie it is. On this week’s episode, we’re talking all about Anaconda (1997), the film that gave us J. Lo and O. Wil (should we make that a thing?) way before Marry Me was even a twinkle in a romcom writer’s eye. But it didn’t just star those two — it also featured Ice Cube, Jon Voigt, and Danny Trejo, and in an alternate universe Gillian Anderson could’ve been part of the cast, too. On a new Spooky Tuesday, we’re breaking down all the casting could’ve beens, important anatomical terms, and the cost of that absolutely unparalleled animatronic snake.

Candyman (2021): "The Grossification of A Hottie"22 Feb 202202:12:33

If there’s one thing we learned from the new Candyman (2021), it’s that you should always steal the branded pens they give you at businesses — oh, and that you should never even joke about saying any boogeyman’s name in a mirror five times. Or is it five times in a row? Five times in five minutes? Does it count if you do it over Zoom? On our latest Spooky Tuesday, we might just be veering into the danger zone — but we’re willing to take that risk for all you Spookies at home. We can’t do everything by ourselves, though. Given that this movie was another thinky, we decided to enlist the help of our pal Chancellor Agard. Not only is he a bonafide smarty, he’s also an actual media critic who had the opportunity to chat with director Nia DaCosta herself about what it was like bringing the legend of Candyman back to life.

The Love Witch (2016): "Freud Would've Loved Sex Magic"15 Feb 202201:42:52

No thoughts, just vibes or all thoughts and no vibes? Sydney told Monica and Chelsea to get “flavor blasted” before watching The Love Witch (2016), but we definitely needed our full mental faculties for this discussion. The movie was undoubtedly a labor of love from writer/director (and producer/songwriter/editor/production designer/art director/set decorator/costume designer/shall we go on) Anna Biller — and the finished product is a feast for the eyes, particularly with all the ‘60s inspired fashion — but whether or not it was a successful film is up for discussion. There’s at least one thing we can all agree on, though: Gahan is the absolute worst.

My Bloody Valentine (1981): "His Whole Valentussy"08 Feb 202201:27:20

Is there anything more on theme for Valentine’s Day than wrapping up a literal human heart in a cartoon heart-shaped box? It’s called romance, babes, and on our latest episode, we’re talking about a killer who doesn’t do anything ~half-hearted.~ In My Bloody Valentine (1981), the mysterious miner knows how to commit to a bit — and here at Spooky Tuesday, we love when a man puts his whole Valentussy into honoring the holiday. Join us for a romantic week-long celebration as we talk about all the iconic style, gory kills, and lad behavior in this ‘80s slasher classic. Spoiler alert: When people say boys will be boys, they’re talking about the group shower scene in this movie.

Scream (2022): "It’s Called A Fix-It Fic"01 Feb 202201:54:25

Here at Spooky Tuesday, we’ve always said that Scream (1996) was a love letter to the horror genre — and the new Scream (2022) is definitely a love letter to the whole Wes Craven franchise. This week, we’re diving deep into Scream 5 and trying to fit all of our many, many, many (many!!!) thoughts into just under two hours. We’re talking easter eggs, Scream’s first canon queer character, Dewey’s foster dogs, Tara’s love for The Babadook (2014), our whole-hearted devotion to Sidney Prescott, and just where exactly Matthew Lillard could (or does!) fit in. Now who’s got their fingers crossed for Scream 6?

Snowpiercer (2013): "Fucking Polar Bears" ft. Kristian Bruun25 Jan 202201:56:57

Last week, we celebrated Matty Lilly’s birthday. This week, we’re celebrating our first celebrity guest as Spooky Tuesday welcomes Kristian Bruun onto the pod. In honor of his debut on season 3 of the Snowpiercer TV show, we asked him to throw it back to the 20teens and explore the original Snowpiercer (2013) movie with us. A Bong Joon Ho adaptation of a French comic, the flick is packed full of star power, incredible sets, and commentary on the world we live in. It’s also got Chris Evans slipping on a fish mid-fight scene, so you know it’s worth the watch, but what you’ll really want to tune in for is the back and forth as Kristian tries to decide exactly how he feels about that ending.

Follow Kristian Bruun on Instagram and Twitter at @mrkristianbruun.
Season 3 of Snowpiercer premiered on Monday, January 24.

Thir13en Ghosts (2001): "Happy Birthday, Matty Lilly"18 Jan 202202:10:25

We know this one's a long one, but Spookies, the most important day of the year is JUST around the corner. That’s right, we’re gearing up to celebrate our king Matty Lilly’s birthday on Monday, January 24 — which is why we’re using this Tuesday to kick off a week-long party with Thir13en Ghosts (2001). A movie with a bonkers plot, an Oscar-worthy performance from Tony Shalhoub, an incredible post-movie rap, and a title that makes Chelsea lose a little bit of her mind each time she types it out, Thir13en Ghosts is worth the watch. You just might need to watch it again after that to fully appreciate it... but, as we always say, the more Matty Lilly, the merrier.

Till Death (2021): "I Am Weed"11 Jan 202201:20:28

Here’s the thing about Megan Fox and MGK: Wouldn’t we all let ourselves go a little insane and get completely cringe for a chance to be with her???? We’re not willing to let a lil public daddy play get in the way of our love for a spooky queen, so when winter rolled around, we knew Till Death (2021) would be on our schedule. Released in the middle of summer to relatively quiet acclaim, we hadn’t heard too much about the Megan Fox vehicle, but we at least knew this: There’s no real way to go wrong when it comes to staring at her gorgeous face for a full 90 minutes.

Hellraiser (1987): "Looking Kink in the Eye"25 Jun 202401:44:10

This Pride Month, we've been messy. Toxic. Filthy. And now it's time to get a little... kinky. Grab your leather and your spikes, Spookies, because we're summoning the Cenobites with Hellraiser (1987). Written and directed by Clive Barker, the author of the original novella it was based on, this flick kicked off a major horror franchise — and it was the first to introduce audiences to the iconic figure now-known as Pinhead. We're here and we're queer all year round, but for the grand finale of our 2024 Pride lineup, we're exploring the subcultures this film has its roots in and maybe accidentally inventing some scenes of our own. Anyone out there down to become a bladder punk?

Jason X (2002): "Y2K Hottie Ghombie"04 Jan 202201:29:37

We’ve been joking about it for months, but the day has finally come: We’re covering Jason X (2002) on Spooky Tuesday. An unabashedly Y2K movie that dares to imagine a future full of clothing you might’ve bought at your local Limited Too, the tenth installment in the Friday the 13th franchise shows the ghombie himself getting frozen, going to space, and exploring virtual reality. Was it worth the wait? It depends on who you ask.

The Shining (1980): "Furry Representation"28 Dec 202101:48:30

The girlies are fighting, y’all. Ever since The Shining (1980) first smashed its way into theaters, Stephen King and Stanley Kubrick were at each other’s throats, arguing about whose version of the story is best, whose is a fancy car without an engine, and whose is by no means a serious literary work. On a new Spooky Tuesday, though, we just may have discovered that a combination of the two canons makes for the best understanding of the film — and we’re sharing our thoughts and theories as we break down one of the most famous horror movies (or straight up just one of the most famous movies) of all time.

Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984): "Diverstitty"21 Dec 202101:31:12

We gotta say, Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984) really lives up to its title as a video nasty. Pulled from theaters when it first came out because it dared to ask the question, “What if Santa but bad,” this ‘80s horror flick became something of a cult classic based solely on the fact that it was hard to see — like, literally hard to track down and watch back when streaming services and websites were barely even a twinkle in Al Gore’s eye. If you ask us here at Spooky Tuesday, though, “evil Santa” was a total red (and green) herring for the actually disturbing on-screen deaths. On our second (and last) Christmas episode of the season, we’re talking about what worked for us, who changed their tune about this movie, and why diverstitties are so important.
