Episode 134 - Fran and Jessica on Franconia Ridge, Flooding across the White Mountains
Épisode 134
vendredi 22 décembre 2023 • Durée 02:05:00
This week, we bring you a fun story of two hikers - Jessica and Fran who experienced trouble on Franconia Ridge - this one is from the perspective that we don't often think about when talk about hiking - the once a year hiker going out for a fun day of nature mostly unaware of how best to prepare for a challenging day in the mountains. This story turns out okay but it is a lesson in how small decisions can build up and create the potential for big problems. Plus we have an angry mother nature - road closures, washouts, raging rivers, and major flooding across New Hampshire and Maine - the great flood of 2023 this week has wreaked havoc in the Whites and beyond. All this and a Volcano eruption in Iceland, Wolves in Colorado, Lord of the Rings, A recent hike retraces the steps of Darby Field in the Montalban Range and recent search and rescue news

Épisode 132
vendredi 8 décembre 2023 • Durée 02:15:11
This week we are joined by the dynamic duo of Rebecca and Danielle to talk about their recent completion of the White Mountain Redline / Trace. This challenge entails hiking every trail in the white mountain guide and is a feat that very few people complete. They have both been working on their redlines independently for a number of years and have now completed their goals. We are going to ask them to reflect on their accomplishments and go through planning, logistics, struggles, and the triumph of completing what many consider to be the most challenging goal in the White Mountains. In addition we will talk about an incoming storm to hit later next weekend, a lost dog story, what happens when your parachute does not open, more gear reviews, House of Dragons, in our beer drinking segment a deep dive on Artificial Intelligence helping to make IPAs, notable hikes all over the whites,
