An episode about toxic fast fashion brand SHEIN21 Nov 202100:09:03

In this solo episode I talk about the toxic effects of fast fashion, particularly the brand SHEIN, a brand that creates a tremendous amount of waste on this planet through its plastic individual packaging, the cheap quality of its fabrics and its lack of transparency. 80 billion garments are bought annually worldwide and the average clothing item is worn only 7 times before it is tossed. Arguably, some of theses SHEIN clothing items are worn less given their shoddy quality.  Do think twice before ordering from them, especially as we get closer to Black Friday.

Born and raised in Montreal, Antoinette Di Carlo was immersed into fashion at a very young age. She learned how to hand stitch at the tender age of eight, and from then on, the rest was history. An interview with author Karina Kennedy22 Jun 202100:21:10

About the author:  Karina Kennedy is a romantic writer and a restless spirit. Growing up in Florida, she cheated her Choose Your Own Adventure books by keeping fingers stuck in the pages so she could change her mind. Who wants only one adventure? Karina is inspired by strong, creative women in all walks of life and uses this passion to fuel her travels all over the world.

A favorite quote from the book:   "The wind whisks a cacophony of kitchen smells off his clothes and hair filling my nostrils: basil, fish, onions, wine, garlic, lots of garlic.  I close my eyes and feel the cool wind on my face. Somewhere along the way, I stop worrying about getting locked out of my room, about the fact that I'm vertically spooning a complete stranger, about everything. This is the real magic of Italy. Italians have mastered the physics of slowing time down. The minute you stop thinking about what you just did, or what you're about to do, the moment you're actually in comes into sharp delicious focus."

About the book: Marina Taylor is a bold, adventure-seeking writer with a one-way ticket to Rome and big dreams to write her book, Italian Women of Influence . . . but an undeniable connection with an irresistible stranger—and her penchant for disaster—just may derail her plans.

Inspired by actress and sex icon Regina Lombardi, Marina tries to master the sexual gaze as she researches her book and stumbles her way through Italian scholars, Turkish footballers, and Sicilian twins. From the nightclubs of Rome to a Venetian masquerade ball, Marina’s escapades leave her yearning for a particular French-Italian photographer. Will she catch her illusive stranger, or prove more calamity than coquette? And what about the ruggedly down-to-earth ex who's waiting for her back home?

Equal parts laugh-out-loud travel comedy and sexy adventure, Marina’s first trip abroad will inspire you to throw your own itinerary out the window and throw caution to the wind. Art, love, sex, wine—the Italian playboy and the boy next door—who says you can’t have it all?

An interview with Sophie Lymburner, founder of YogaTribes17 Jun 201800:14:10
    Sophie Lymburner is a soulful entrepreneur. In addition to being a marketing guru, she's a good friend and the founder of YogaTribes, the Montreal based international yoga platform bringing together yoga teachers and their respective yogi tribes.

The site was founded by Sophie and her team after she discovered the power of yoga when offereing free yoga classes to her staff in her former offices. The rest, as they say, is history. YogaTribes is a terrific hub, comparable to Uber and Airband B in other spheres, where one can locate, and reserve and pay for a yoga class.  The site has been praised by world-renowned luminairies such as Elena Brower, a New York based yoga teacher with an impressive pedigree who was in Montreal this past February for the Expo Yoga.  In addition to being the perfect gathering place for yogis and teachers,  YogaTribes hosts a number of amazing events throughout the year, including the eponymous (and well worth it!) YogaTribes Sound Off, where headsets provide an intimate connection with teachers and ambient music, a remarkable multi-sensory experience like no other.

On June 21st, on International Yoga Day, YogaTribes will unveil its programming for Tout le monde yoga, a summertime yoga program that will offer Montrealers free yoga all summer long, as well as officially launch its collaborative and commercial platform for yoga. Through a partnership with studios and instructors in the Greater Montreal Area, YogaTribes has developed a diverse original programming with over 75 free classes offered between June 21st and September 20th.

Tout Le Monde Yoga, is a jam-packed calender of yoga events for the summer months, which to my absolute delight, includes outdoor yoga, yoga at Place des Arts, spinning yoga, as well as a wonder full outdoor yoga experiences during the Oneka Open House in the Eastern Townships. ( I'm thrilled to mention that I will be part of the programming for this amazing weekend, more details to come soon!)

What I admire most about Sophie is her steadfast dedication to her innovative platform, her immense creativity, her passion, and her can-do attitude.  I've never heard her complain or recoil in front of any business challenge. Sophie is a role model for all entrepreneurs, young and old, who have that fire in their belly and who want to make a difference in the world. If you're a fan of yoga, I encourage you to join the YogaTribes community today.  You can do so here. Also, listen in on the podcast to find out more about the awesome events coming up this summer in Montreal and the Townships. Thank you Sophie for sharing your passions, lighting that flame, and sharing your gifts with the world. You're an inspiration for us all.

An Interview with Jennifer Brodeur of JB Skin Guru11 Jun 201800:23:04

I had the immense pleasure of meeting Jennifer Brodeur, the founder of JB Skin Guru while giving a conference in Montreal a few years ago.  We were both there to inspire a younger generation of women to take risks and go for their dreams. Her vision and determination inspired me greatly. And just like that, we hit it off.   It was the serendipitous call of synchronicity. She is a trailbalizer and a visionary. All heart and soul. As the creator of an eco-conscious line of holistic beauty products,  Jennifer never compromises on her standards: whether it be product ingredients or packaging. Everything is well thought out, organic, and of the highest quality.    When possible, she also sources her ingredients and materials locally and her gorgeous packaging is made of recyclable materials. Her beauty products are the fruit of many years of research about the benefits of certain plants, including the peony root extract. I had the chance to use products from her Peoni line and have been thrilled with the quality.   No perfume, no harmful chemicals, just nature doing her wonderfully magnificent thing. In addition to having things in common in our personal lives, what really drew me to Jennifer were her values:  hard work, determination, perseverance, and passion.  Loads and loads of passion.    She's not afraid to get real and to talk about some of the challenges she faced while building her brand.  Because that's what true leaders do; they lead from a place of open-heartedness, authenticity, and emotional truth.  No sugar coating it.  No hiding the tough, difficult, and sometimes downright ugly stuff.  It's precisely this honesty and her non-nonsense willingness to share her story that makes Jennifer a trailblazer and a visionary. We should all be taking notes.

Immensely curious and intellectually savvy,  Jennifer studied the benefits of the peony root extract in Chinese medicine and discovered that it has many benefits, including keeping the skin balanced and well hydrated.  It's also a super antioxidant that contains anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal properties. Today, her services are in demand by local and international celebrities, including  Karine Vanasse, Oprah Winfrey, and Michelle Obama.  Her products were featured in Oprah Magazine's favorite things, no small feat. But all this glorious success didn't happen overnight.  It's the fruit of twenty years of dedicated, nose to grindstone hard work.   According to Jennifer, overnight success is a myth,  just like the idea of anti-aging beauty products.  "I don't believe in miracles or anti-aging. I think it gives people false hope.  Growing old gracefully should be considered a privilege to be embraced not denied." A wellness warrior, Jennifer also offers holistic nutritional tips to her clients to improve the overall quality of their skin.  Asked if she has some practical tips, here are some suggestions that she generously shared:
  1. Drink plenty of water;
  2. Get adequate sleep.   A lack of sleep will actually worsen existing skin conditions, accelerate the aging process and cause dehydration.
  3. Cut back on sugar.   It's brutal for the skin.  It also causes redness and puffiness;
  4. Eat plenty of those greens. Broccoli is a natural skin supplement and we should have plenty of it regularly;
  5. Make sure you get adequate Omega 3's and zinc, whether it be in your diet or via supplements;
  6. Add a B vitamin to your supplements;
  7. Exercise regularly. It does wonders for your complexion;
  8. So does doing something you're passionate about;
  9. Become literate with labels and read the ingredients on the cosmetics you use.  Stay away from harsh and harmful chemicals;

An interview with Marie-Andrée Wallot of Wallo25 May 201800:30:00

Hello dear friends, I'm thrilled to introduce my new Podcast about ethical fashion, beauty, and spirituality.  It's also about creating a mystical and magical made-to-measure life.   I've been wanting to launch this podcast for the longest time and here it is! I've been on my own mystical journey, reconnecting with my soul and my purpose on many levels in the last few years. I'm eager to share the lessons I've learned. I'm also eager to introduce the amazing people I've met along the way.  Today, I'm speaking with the wonderful Marie-Andrée Wallot, a talented visual artist and founder of the Wallo label.

Her work caught my attention while I was scrolling through my social media feed and came across a runway shot of one of her dresses. Anyone who knows me well understands my passion for color so I felt the need to find out more about the designer. I was thrilled to find out that she's from my native Quebec.

More than a designer, Marie-Andrée is a nature lover and a passionate artist inspired by the romance of  beauty and travel, including Japan. Art is her passion.   You can feel it just by talking to her. And by looking at her beautiful designs.   The image of the human body in movement inspires me.  Emotion is communicated through actions and facial expressions, whether in sculpture, painting or digital art.

The idea to launch a fashion collection was sparked after she created some unique pieces for friends and family.  Each piece is hand-crafted and printed on silk and made in Quebec.   With each of her large-scale pieces,  Marie-Andrée creates unique works of art.   A poetic and fluid tribute to the female body. I'm always impressed with artists who have the courage to follow the spark of new ideas and their creativity.  Why?  Because it takes time, effort, determination, and patience.  But following your dreams always pays off in the end.  Marie-Andrée is the living proof of this. I was also impressed by her thoughts on eco-fashion and the importance to cut back on poor quality clothing.  Buy less, choose better quality and use the time and extra space to connect with nature.   Those are messages that resonate deep within me, always. You can find her work in numerous boutiques across Quebec.  Here is her website. Thank you Marie-Andrée for your soulful vibe and sharing with me on my Podcast. You have inspired me greatly!
