Gina Mundy is an attorney that specializes in childbirth cases. For over two decades, she has analyzed the mistakes that are made during labor and delivery. 

Drawing on this knowledge, she has authored the book "A Parent's Guide to a Safer Childbirth" to help parents prevent these mistakes and have a healthy baby. 

Rather than merely getting involved after an unfortunate mistake was made, Gina has taken a proactive approach by getting involved before childbirth.

In this episode we talk about the importance of individualized care, continuity of care, and the crucial key to a safer childbirth: Prepare and educate yourself about the labor experience.

The two most important decisions you will make are who you choose to birth with and where you choose to birth.

Gina's has only ever had a handful of cases that were natural, spontaneous labors and did not involve the drug Pitocin or artificial rupture of membranes (breaking mom's bag of waters).

We hone in on what informed consent really means, how protocols do not always serve the individual woman and are not law. Different providers will have different opinions but ultimately the decision is up to the mother.

It is crucial to interview your providers and doulas and pick the team that shares your vision.

Lastly, we highlight how important it is for someone to document (written, audio, video) on behalf of the mother and baby.

In her capacity as legal counsel, Gina has closely worked with delivery teams whose care has been questioned following adverse outcomes. She has spent thousands of hours meticulously scrutinizing cases, conducting interviews with delivery teams, and thoroughly examining medical records to gain an in-depth understanding of every decision made during labor and delivery.

In this episode Amanda will share about her embodied wisdom as a Pelvic Floor OT, Craniosacral Therapist (CST) & Mother.

Getting to the root cause of the dis-ease in our bodies, what a NO looks and feels like in our bodies and why its crucial to honor that.

We deep dive into what CST is and why it is a benefical modality for processing trauma stored in the body including the polyvagal therory.

We talk about what it means to be an embodied practioner of helaing arts and how doing our own inner work comes first.

Amanda shares about her maternal line and her own birth imprint. She shares about her two very fast unmedicated births in the hospital.

Again we discuss the importance of birth imprints for the coming generations.

Lastly, we talk about Motherhood and the gifts and lessons that come with it. Such as, unlearning the "Martyr Mother" and how to balance our soul callings in the early years of motherhood. Simply put- we need our village.

Amanda is a mother to two children ages 5 and 8. 

It was the birth of her children that opened her to this sacred path of serving women. She feels the portal of birth was the opening to the journey she continues on today. 

While not a home birth, Amanda birthed her two children in the hospital alongside her family and midwives naturally and unmedicated. They were fast and furious births that has left her heart wide open ever since. 

Amanda is an Occupational Therapist specializing in women's pelvic health. After working as a traditional pelvic floor therapist and treating pelvic health conditions from a biomechanical approach she saw how some women just weren't getting better. 

She began to treat pelvic health differently and saw amazing results! She started to address the "stuff" that was stored in women's bodies. 

Through a somatic (body) based approach, Amanda helps women process stored emotions, stories, and unprocessed experiences that have been influencing and likely contributing to their physical health. 

Through the gentle modality of craniosacral therapy and the use of somato-emotional release techniques Amanda offers her clients a safe and sacred space to heal from the inside out. 

Amanda's private practice, Pearl Holistic Health, is located in Biddeford, Maine. She works with women through pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond.

Lastly, the reason for initiations, the horizon line view of life and how it is a circle and we are all one.

Devin King Jones is an International Coach, speaker and village tender. She is the creator of the award-winning program, Sacred: 7 Pillars of Self-Love.

"The epiphanies I received after witnessing the unassisted birth of my son run deep. To birth a life free from malpractices, or even observation is subversive to the system.

The implications of unassisted birth are practical, profound, and my wife is an anointed Goddess for doing it all on her own. She says birth is no big deal.

At the same time, this portal & rite of passage for woman, and for man is the ultimate raw experience. Having climbed Myticas, the highest, most precarious peak of Mount Olympus, sailed the Bermuda Triangle with one other crewman, traveled overland at unspeakably high speeds on superbikes with visions of my own mortality, etc., I can tell you that all of the beauty and tragedy I’ve experienced and witnessed pales in comparison to watching my Beloved birth our baby into my arms. It’s both mundane and majestic.

Sami shares with us her two totally different birth experiences: Her first a 72 hour long home birth surrounded by her partner, dear friend, photographer, and two midwives and her second that was barely witnessed by even her partner after just a few hours of fast labor.

Sami references Yolande Norris-Clark's book Portal. (Highly recommended reading) She was gifted the opportunity to choose the path or fear or trust and she chose trust. The ripple effect of this is evident now in the way she leads her life.

Sami is a mother and a wife. She is a yoga teacher, studio owner, and former doula, with a Master's degree in Alternative Medicine, and the host of the podcast Mother Medicine, where she breaks down cultural myths around health.

She hopes other mothers will take from her two completely different birth stories the weight of this truth: That observation really is the first intervention.
