Travel in 2026 isn’t about rushing back to crowded hotspots. It’s about choosing experiences with intention, calm, and clarity.

In this episode, Cheryl explores the biggest travel trends shaping 2026—and how women over 50 can turn them into realistic, meaningful plans.

If you’re craving depth instead of checklists, restoration instead of exhaustion, and confidence instead of chaos, these trends will help you travel smarter.

In This Episode:

  • Why wellness travel is shifting toward digital detox and quiet retreats
  • The rise of “why-cations” and purpose-driven itineraries
  • Mountain escapes and cozy seasonal travel
  • Off-peak travel strategies for better value and fewer crowds
  • The return of slow travel with longer, immersive stays
  • Rail travel revival and rolling hotel experiences
  • The continued rise of solo travel for women
  • Generational travel and meaningful shared experiences

Travel trends may change—but your why matters more than any destination.

When you align your trip with your purpose, budget, and energy, you return home renewed—not depleted.

If you’re unsure how to design a trip that fits your season of life, comfort level, and confidence, Cheryl works with women in 1:1 coaching to create safe, intentional, and meaningful travel plans.

Why Do You Travel? How to Define Your Purpose Before You Book // 16104 Nov 202500:17:50

Why do you travel?

Before choosing a destination, booking a flight, or building an itinerary, this single question can reshape everything.

In this episode, Cheryl reflects on 100,000 downloads and three years of Solo Travel Adventures by exploring how intention transforms travel from a checklist experience into something meaningful.

Because when your “why” is clear, every decision becomes easier.

In This Episode:

  • Eight common reasons women travel—and how to plan around each one
  • Traveling for connection with family and friends
  • Planning restorative trips that truly allow for rest
  • Designing travel around festivals, events, or marathons
  • Cultural immersion beyond tourist highlights
  • Ethical volunteering and how to avoid exploitation
  • Turning work travel into intentional micro-journeys
  • Filtering destinations and pacing through your personal purpose

If your goal is rest, you’ll plan differently than if your goal is adventure.
If your goal is cultural depth, your days will look different than if your goal is celebration.

When purpose leads, FOMO fades.
Clarity replaces overwhelm.
And you return home changed in the way you actually hoped for.

If you’re unsure what your next trip represents in this season of life, Cheryl works with women in 1:1 coaching to clarify their travel goals and design meaningful, confidence-building experiences aligned with their purpose.

Splendid Isolation: A Solo Adventure at Big Bend National Park28 Nov 202300:25:32

In the US we have 63 National Parks to explore with Big Bend in the state of Texas.
Big Bend in located far West Texas on a bit over 800,000 acres of geographic marvel of vast desert landscapes with rocky mountain ridge tops and carved out canyons near the border of Mexico. It is the 15th largest National park in the US.

BEST TIME TO GO: Spring and Fall or November thru April.

HOW TO GET THERE: You must drive. It is very remote with no airports nearby.

Two Entrances: Persimmon Gap (North side) and Maverick Entrance (West side near Terlingua)

WHERE TO STAY: Chisos Mountain Lodge, RV campgrounds or tent campsites and backcountry campsites. All accommodations can be booked through the NPS.org site with links to bookings.

THINGS TO DO: Hiking or scenic drives. I share the hikes/trails I experienced during my 3 day trip, but there are 200 miles of trails to explore.

IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS: 1) Get gas before driving into the park. 2) Bring enough supplies of water and food or camping needs. 3) Get a paper map of the park because GPS will not work in many places of the park.

7 Airport Travel Hacks You Can Use Now21 Nov 202300:07:58

Everyone loves "hacks" whether for travel or general life hacks to make our lives easier.
These 7 airport travel hacks will save you time, money and reduce your stress.

1) Get TSA Pre-check status or Global Entry to save time during security check. Lines are shorter, you move through the process quicker and you don't have to remove your shoes.
2) Take an early morning flight. The first flights out are less likely to be cancelled or delayed, plus they experience less turbulence.
3) Take a picture of where you parked if you drive to the airport.
4) Take an empty water bottle. Saves you money from buying bottled water at the airport and no time wasted standing in line either.
5) Check the status of your flight before you leave for the airport in case it is delayed or cancelled.
6) Sign up for lounge access.
7) Place a designating item on your luggage, like a sticker, ribbon or scarf on the handle, especially if you have a basic color suitcase like everyone else.

4 Ways to Immerse Yourself Into A Culture As a Solo Traveler with Guest Karen Gershowitz24 Oct 202300:48:27

My guest today, Karen Gershowitz, has over four decades of global exploration, and a two-time travel book author, unveils solo travel's potential as more than an alternative - it's an avenue to immerse in cultures and forge bonds.

Karen Gershowitz has been traveling solo since age seventeen, when she flew to Europe and didn’t return to the US for three years. In her career as a marketing strategist and researcher she traveled the world conducting thousands of meetings, focus groups and interviews. When traveling for pleasure, those same skills helped her to draw out people’s stories. She learned about their lives, as well as local customs and fashions and what makes them laugh. Her first book of travel stories, Travel Mania, explores the confluence of travel and life events and how travel has changed her beliefs and life direction. Wanderlust continues those stories, addressing issues readers have asked to hear more about—memorable food, people, and places she experienced in her travels. She hopes these stories tickle the travel bug in readers and set them off on their own adventures. Karen lives in New York City.

FOUR WAYS TO IMMERSIVE INTO A CULTURE:

  • Reading a book in public introduces opportunities for unforeseen discussions and new friendships.
  • Shared tables at eateries encourage engagement with local residents and fellow journeyers.
  • Embrace public transit to discover less-traveled regions and experience genuine culture.
  • Participate in classes and meet-ups to connect through common interests and gain insights from residents.

Paget Rhee of Be Balanced Centers, shares her story about how reclaiming her health has empowered her and given her the confidence to travel and even be bolder in her business and life.

Our health can affect our travels both physically and mentally, making us question if we can even do certain activities.

As women, we are expected to do it all, but this causes stress that affects our health.

Fear is often unnecessary and never comes to fruition. Be wise though when traveling solo but don't let it hold you back or you will never go.

Balancing your hormones to get your health back will allow you to live your best life at any age, and allow you to travel the world.

3 Packing Travel Hacks You Never Thought Of03 Oct 202300:07:12

We all love travel hacks, especially when it comes to packing lighter and smarter.

1) This hack is a double bonus in that it also reduces your liquids if traveling with only a carry-on. (Refer to episode 47 for more ways to reduce liquids when packing).
Soak a cotton ball with eye make-up remover, astringent, perfume, etc and seal in a ziploc bag. This will not count towards your liquids. Along those lines, soak a sponge in dish detergent or laundry detergent. Let it dry before traveling. Then just add water to use the soap.

2) Protect your shoes by using doggie poop bags (or gallon ziplocs) or a shower cap.

3) Safely travel with your jewelry by rolling up in a t-shirt. It takes up less space and conceals your jewelry and prevents it from getting tangled.

Receive my FREE Packing Checklist by requesting through Instagram or available within the community FB group.

How To Get Airport Lounge Access Without The Hefty Fee26 Sep 202300:11:29

Have you ever been to an airport lounge? It is well worth it! With unlimited food and drinks plus a quiet place to take a nap or lounge, a place to shower or watch tv, the hours before an international flight can be relaxing in an airport lounge.
But who wants to pay for a high annual fee credit card just to get access? You don't have to have those high status credit cards to get into an airport lounge.

Three Ways to get airport lounge access:

1) Airline status
* First class or Business class have access.
* Branded airline credit cards can earn you elite status for access.

2) Pay for a day pass
You can pay for a day pass(when flying internationally) through the airlines (if they offer it) or a third-party lounge.
*Some airlines offer day passes to non-first class passengers.
*Escape lounge (third-party) in the US only
*Dragon Pass- in Asia
*Lounge Buddy

3) Priority Pass Membership- 3 levels of memberships
Access to over 1400+ lounges internationally

If you only fly 1-2x a year, then a day pass may be the best economical choice.

Why It Is Important to Maintain Your Routines While Traveling05 Sep 202300:15:12

What habits or routines do you do every morning or evening? Are you continuing those while traveling? We are a species that thrives on routine. Consider the routine of a school year for example.

Sleep and other daily routines often get out of whack while traveling such as sleep, eating patterns, exercise and more.

Ask yourself, what current daily(morning and evening routines) do you habitually perform? Could you continue these while traveling?

You will be a happier person on your trip if you try to adhere to your normal program.

Ways To Reduce Liquids While Traveling With Just a Carry On Bag15 Aug 202300:16:09

We all desire to travel light and easily with a simple carry on. But what do you do with all your liquids, gels, aerosols and pastes of your personal items?

In general, when traveling, we are limited to a total of 3.4 ounces or 100 milliliters of liquid, gels, pastes or spray/aerosol items. All items must be displayed in a clear plastic bag, such as a quart Ziploc type sealable bag. Australia has some powders they consider in the limits as well.

Here are some ways to reduce your liquid products. Some products mentioned can be purchased in a solid form.

1) Shampoo/conditioner- They sell solid bar shampoo soap and conditioners. Or use what may be provided at your accommodations.
2) Toothpaste- Purchase a powder form or solid toothpaste called "Bites" are like a pill you bite into to produce the toothpaste.
3) Bodywash/Soap- use a bar of soap or use what they provide at the hotel.
4) Hair products- try to skip or limit. Transfer to a smaller container.
5) Perfume-skip
6) Mouthwash-use what is provided at hotel or skip
7) Deodorant-use solid form. No liquid or aerosol type.
8) Sunscreen- if you are going to the beach, you may want to consider checking your bag or purchase once you arrive at your destination.
9) Body lotion- try to buy a sample or travel size. Beware-many travel sizes are 2 ounces.
10) Liquid Cosmetics- consider powder makeup
11) Oil-Essential Oils- small vials
12) Mascara- consider getting fake eyelashes professionally done to avoid having to even pack mascara.

5 Tips to Finding Cheaper Holiday Flights08 Aug 202300:12:05

The time between Christmas and New Years is one of the most expensive times for flights, with a general higher airfare from December 17th through January 7th.

1) Book your holiday travel at least 5 months out. The closer you get to the actually holiday, you will see continual incremental increases.

2) Travel on the holiday itself: Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
Avoid December 23 and 26th and the day before a holiday and the Sunday after a holiday, such as Thanksgiving. Although in general traveling on a Tuesday or Wednesday tend to be cheaper, because of what day Christmas is on this year, that is not true this year (2023).

3) Check alternative airports. If you live in a metro area where there is more than one airport or can drive 2 hours to another airport to save money, then consider doing a search through Google Flights and see if using a different airport is financially a better option.

4) Extend your trip to avoid the rush and lower your ticket price. Travel several days before and/or after the holiday.

5) Consider International flights as they can be cheaper than domestic flights during the holiday window. Everyone wants to go home and visit family during the holidays but if you just want to get away as a solo traveler during the holiday, then look at international destinations.

Where Would You Go If You Could Only Go To One Place?25 Jul 202300:11:20

Where is the #1 place you want to travel to? Where do you dream of going, all the time?
If you were given 1 last trip of a lifetime, where would it be?

I was recently asked this question and initially was surprised I couldn't answer it quickly because I have so many place I desperately want to visit. But when it came down to framing the question as though I was dying and only had 1 opportunity for 1 destination, then I was able in my heart to answer.

For me, my #1 destination would be The Amalfi Coast. I believe it is because I have a heritage connection to this country as I am part Italian. This is my WHY. Plus, it sits in the water, which my soul longs for.

Could you truly start to plan for your #1 destination? Absolutely you should! Life is too short with many our age starting to pass away.

In the meantime, plan some local or smaller adventures at home while you anticipate the big trip.

I would love to hear where your #1 destination would be by sharing on my FB community group.

4 Things You Should Never Wear On A Plane and What To Wear Instead18 Jul 202300:08:22

How many remember dressing up nicely to travel back in the day? Now anything goes when you travel from pajamas, slippers, crop tops, etc.

Although we want to be comfortable, there are a few things we should avoid.
AVOID:
1) Offensive clothing- whether it's swear words or political words or symbols, these could trigger others to be hostile. To avoid confrontation, wear basic clothing.

2) Sandals or open-toe shoes- airplanes get cold especially on long flights. For a short flight, sandals might be fine. Bring or wear socks. Compression socks if it is a long flight to avoid swollen feet and ankles.

3) Lightweight clothes-wear layers instead so when you are hot or cold you can adjust.

4) No Perfume or fragrance. People could be allergic. Use deodorant though.

Is Solo Cruising Right For You? What to Expect11 Jul 202300:31:15

Is it ok to go on a cruise alone?

My guest today, Alyssa Johnson is a Travel Advisor and Cruise Expert who specializes in solo travel. Her goal is to help women comfortably and confidently travel the world solo so they no longer feel like they have to wait for anyone else to see the world. She will be sharing cruise tips and what to expect as a solo traveler on a cruise, what cruise lines cater to solo travelers and other places in the world you can take a cruise.

1)Cruises are a great way to experience solo travel without the fear of being alone and a great first solo trip too.

2) You are not alone on cruises. You are surrounded by many people where you can meet people and be included in activities.

3) Everything is planned for you while on a cruise, including any excursions if you want.

4) How do you avoid the single supplement charge? There are some cruise lines who are starting to recognize the large customer base of solo travelers. Virgin and Norwegian are beginning to offer single rooms.

5) What is an item often forgotten when packing for a cruise? Dental products for tooth emergencies (no dentist on the ship), a first aid kit and pain medicine.

6) There are cruises all over the world, not just in the Caribbean; such as, South Africa, Alaska, Antartica, Japan, Mediterranean, and through Hawaii.

7) Different cruise lines can have a different vibe and offerings, so consult an advisor to make sure you get matched up with the cruise line that fits your personality and travel needs.

What to Pack For A Road Trip: 25 Essentials You Must Have04 Jul 202300:16:35

Road trips are so much fun because of the ability to take your time and stop along the way to see interesting sites. Road trips also allow the freedom to pack whatever you want without limitations you experience with air travel: no limit on liquid amounts, no baggage fees, no wasted time waiting at airports or cramming all your clothes into a small bag.

There are 25 essential items you must take on road trips.

There are several of these items that should already be in your vehicle and would be good practice to prepare your vehicle, even you are not going on a roadtrip.

1) Spare tire/jack
2) Tire Inflator
3) Car battery jump starter- this compact device allows you to jump your own car without the help of another vehicle.
4) Headlamp (or flashlight)
5) Blanket
6) Old bath towel
7) Umbrella
8)Tote bag/Reusable shopping bag
9) First Aid Kit
10) Napkins/tissues/wipes
11) Toilet paper
12) Ice scraper
13) Plastic silverware
14) Driver's License-ID for driving. Likely you already carry this in your wallet.
15) Extra key for the car. Do not keep on same keychain.
16) Phone charger
17) Portable power bank/charger
18) Water bottle
19) Cooler with food
20) Snacks
21) Sunglasses
22) Sunscreen
23) Cash- including small bills and coin
24) Downloaded materials such as: maps, music, podcasts, audiobooks
25) Pillow

If you have all these items or most in your vehicle and ready, you can have the freedom to spontaneously hop in your car and take a road trip as your heart leads.

Are You Afraid of Losing Your Luggage? 4 Ways to Prevent Lost Luggage this Summer27 Jun 202300:10:06

Losing luggage while traveling can be such an inconvenience and stressful too. Although the stats of lost baggage doubled in 2022 from previous years according to The Guardian, especially for international flights, there is still only a 2% chance of losing your luggage. Since travel is higher in the summer, the odds increase.

4 Ways to Prevent Lost Luggage:

1) Arrive early to the airport if you are checking a bag.

2) If you are not checking a bag, make sure the size of your carry-on luggage meets the standards of that airlines for overhead bin size. Remember, many international/other countries outside the US have smaller guidelines for overhead storage bin sizes. Board early to avoid running out of space in the overhead bins and being forced to check your bag at the gate or plane-side.

3) Fly non-stop or make sure there is sufficient time between connecting flights to transfer your luggage.

4) Use Airtags. The use of Airtags will not prevent your luggage from getting lost but it can help locate if mishandled and lost within the airport.

Summer Travel Tip: Essentials for Your Body09 Jun 202300:04:20

Whether you are taking a road trip or flying somewhere this summer, don't forget about fueling your body, especially to avoid the crankiness of travel fatique.

STAY HYDRATED and PACK SNACKS

For hydration, I recommend drinking plenty of water. To reduce single-use plastics, I travel with a water bottle to fill up (and it saves money). I use LifeStraw as my water bottle.

Snacks- whatever you like but avoid chocolate because it melts. Try to bring healthy options for better energy, ie: trail mix, protein bars, nuts.

Life Straw Water Bottle

How to Research Your Travel Destination and Where to Find Reputable Information06 Jun 202300:11:17

Researching your travel destination is an essential part of trip planning. It helps you gather information about the place you're visiting, including its culture, attractions, safety considerations, and practical details. Here are some steps to effectively research your travel destination:

  1. Set your goals: Determine what you want to get out of your trip. Are you interested in historical sites, outdoor adventures, cultural experiences, or local cuisine? Clarifying your goals will help you focus your research.
  2. Use online resources: The internet offers a wealth of information for travelers. Google of course. Try FB for groups specific to travel or that destination. YouTube has vblogs of people who have traveled there. Rick Steves, Samantha Brown, Nomadic Matt. Books can spark interest such as Frances Mayes books or Stephanie Rosenbloom books and articles.
  3. Explore local attractions and activities: Make a list of the must-see attractions and activities in your destination. Look for historical landmarks, museums, natural wonders, parks, local markets, and events. Check the opening hours, admission fees, and any special requirements for visiting these places.
  4. Transportation and accommodation: Research transportation options within the destination, such as public transportation, car rentals, or local tour operators. Look for accommodations that suit your preferences and budget, whether it's hotels, hostels, vacation rentals, or camping sites. Read reviews, compare prices, and check their proximity to major attractions.
  5. Safety and health considerations: Check travel advisories: Visit the website of your country's government or relevant travel authorities to check for any travel advisories or warnings issued for your destination. These advisories provide information on safety, health concerns, political stability, and other important considerations. Visit Safe Expat for country safety recommendations.

Remember, travel research is an ongoing process, so keep exploring and gathering information until your departure. The more you know about your travel destination, the better prepared you'll be to have a memorable and enjoyable trip.

How Do You Decide Where to Go On Your Travels? 5 Factors to Consider30 May 202300:12:43

Do you struggle with decision overwhelm when it comes to WHERE you should travel to? Is your list of places you want to visit long? How do you decide where to go?

Five Factors to Consider to help you decide where to travel to:

1) Time- how much time do you have available for your travels?

2) Costs- are you on a budget? If so, this may limit where you travel. Listen to episode 18 for tips on how to save money by planning your trip backwards.

3) Visas- Is obtaining a Visa a roadblock? You may want to consider other options if this will limit your travels or if you don't have the time or money for this extra step or hassle.

4) Word of Mouth or you personally know someone in the area where you will travel.

5) Where is your heart telling you to go? Do you feel a desire or pull to a certain country or region? Then go there as long as the above 4 other factors will not limit you.

Or be spontaneous and play a game to decide. Roll a dice or throw a dart at a map to determine where you will go. Have fun with it if you are flexible with your travel plans.

Save Money: 4 Things You Should Never Buy at the Airport23 May 202300:08:47

Save your money for more meaningful travel expenses by avoiding buying these 4 items at the airport.

1) Bottled water. Invest in a good water bottle with a filter to take with you and fill up at water fountains or sinks. Plus, save the environment by reducing the single use plastic containers, such as water bottles. I use LifeStraw water bottle.

2) Snacks and Food. These items can be purchased much cheaper at a grocery store, Walmart, Target before you get to the airport.

3) Foreign currency. Airports always have the worst exchange rate for money and you will simply lose money by exchanging at the airport.

4) WiFi. Avoid public wifi connections for security reasons. But if you do not have available data on your phone, only use the free allotted time without sharing any confidential or financial information.

Do You Really Need Travel Insurance? 5 Reasons To Consider16 May 202300:18:06

Is travel insurance worth it? Even though we are in post-covid, it may be something to still consider. I used to never purchase travel insurance but have changed my mind on the importance of this peace of mind.

Travel insurance provides coverage for unexpected events that can occur before or during your trip. While it's not a legal requirement to purchase travel insurance, it can be highly recommended to protect yourself financially and medically while traveling.
Here are some reasons why you might want to consider purchasing travel insurance:

1. Medical Emergencies: If you become ill or injured while traveling, medical expenses can be costly, especially if you require hospitalization or emergency medical evacuation. Travel insurance can cover these expenses.

2. Trip Cancellation or Interruption: If you have to cancel or interrupt your trip due to an unexpected event such as a family emergency, travel insurance can cover the non-refundable expenses you've already paid, such as flights, accommodations, and tours.

3. Lost or Stolen Luggage: If your luggage is lost, stolen, or damaged during your trip, travel insurance can cover the cost of replacing your belongings.

4. Travel Delays: If your flight is delayed, travel insurance can cover additional expenses such as hotel accommodations, meals, and transportation.

5. Emergency Assistance: Many travel insurance policies offer 24/7 emergency assistance, which can be helpful if you're in a foreign country and need help with medical emergencies, legal assistance, or other unexpected situations.

It's important to carefully review and understand the terms and conditions of your travel insurance policy before purchasing it to ensure that it meets your specific needs.

Travel Insurance Companies:

  1. Allianz Global Assistance
  2. Travel Guard
  3. World Nomads
  4. AIG Travel
  5. Safety Wing
  6. InsureMyTrip

Are You Just Returning From Your Travels? 5 Things To Do After a Trip02 May 202300:06:45

We spend so much time planning a trip that we often forget that there are important things we must do after our travels.

1) Check your credit card statement to make sure the charges look correct. Make sure you have a credit card that does not charge any foreign exchange fees.

2) Upload your photos. Save those precious photos either to the cloud, laptop or into a photo album while the places you went are fresh in your mind. Label your photos with the name of the place or location.

3) Claim your miles. Hopefully this was taken care of when you booked your travel but in case something was added on, don't lose those points or miles. They can help fund your next trip.

4) Journal and reflect on your trip. Document not just where you went and what you saw, include how you felt, people you met and any revelations you may have had while traveling.

5) Start planning and thinking about where you are going to next. And start saving money again.

AI and Travel: How to Use Artificial Intelligence Without Losing Authentic Experiences // 14805 Aug 202500:16:06

Artificial intelligence is changing how we plan, book, and experience travel—whether we’re ready for it or not.

From AI-powered airline pricing to translation apps and itinerary builders, technology is reshaping nearly every step of the travel journey. But is it helping solo women travel smarter… or quietly making travel more complicated?

In this episode, Cheryl explores the real benefits and risks of AI in travel—and how to use it wisely without sacrificing authenticity.

Because convenience should never replace connection.

In This Episode:

  • How AI pricing algorithms are affecting airfare
  • Why solo travelers may see different fares
  • The ethical concerns behind dynamic pricing
  • Helpful AI tools for translation, booking, and trip timing
  • Privacy and data tradeoffs to be aware of
  • How algorithms influence destination choices
  • Smart ways to prompt AI for better, less touristy recommendations

AI can organize your trip.
It cannot create your transformation.

The heart of meaningful travel is still human connection—local guides, neighborhood markets, conversations that shift your perspective.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by modern travel tools, pricing systems, or how to plan wisely in this changing landscape, Cheryl works with women in 1:1 coaching to design safe, intentional, confidence-building trips rooted in real experience—not algorithms.

Is Travel Safety A New Concern For Your Upcoming Trip? 3 Questions to Consider Before Canceling28 Mar 202300:21:07

With so much happening in our world, changes in an area can occur overnight even such as global pandemics, natural disasters, political and civil unrest, one has to be vigilant about travel safety.
But before you cancel your trip (or hopefully reschedule) consider these 3 questions.
QUESTIONS TO ASK:
1) HOW BAD IS IT TRULY?
Check local and reputable media outlets for the true story. Go to US State Department of Travel for advisory information or local country's Embassy.
Hard and fast reasons to immediately cancel a trip include; confirmed terrorist attacks, catastrophic natural disasters (ie: Turkey's earthquake Feb 2023), areas closed due to civil unrest.

2) HOW WILL MY SAFETY OR TRAVEL TRANSPORTATION BE COMPROMISED IN THIS SITUATION?
Some situations are questionable, such as protests happening in Paris right now. Does the situation affect tourist? Will my transportation be challenging? Am I willing to deal with the inconvenience?
Can you make any adjustments to your plans to avoid situation?

3) WHAT DOES MY INTUITION SAY?
We often ignore the most valuable resource we have internally, especially as women.
If you will worry the whole time while on your trip, then cancel or reschedule when you know you will be able to truly enjoy the experience.

PREPARE BY:
1) Buy Travel Insurance
-Allianz
-World Nomads
-Safety Wing
-Insure My Trip- for 70 years and up
2) Stay on top of news and happenings in your place of destination
3) Register with STEP- for US citizens
4) Listen to your gut

Travel and Happiness: What is the Correlation?21 Mar 202300:09:21

Hi sister Travelers. Do you get excited just thinking about going on a trip or even just planning a trip? You have this excitement inside you, or maybe you come across some pictures on Instagram or you see some reels of some really amazing places and that gets you so excited. You wish you were there.

Well, I'm gonna tell you. Go ahead and go there. Go there in your mind. Because there are actually some positive benefits to anticipating, dreaming, planning a trip, and I've encouraged you all along to, you know, get out there and do those adventures. Go on those trips. Don't waste any time. And, you know, planning a trip can actually, science has proven, that just the planning of a trip can increase your happiness.

So who doesn't wanna be happy? Right? So go ahead and plan that trip and here's some science behind it. But anticipating, uh, or planning a trip can have far more benefits and impact, a positive impact on you mentally. There's a 2014 Cornell University study that proved this by demonstrating in their research that anticipating a trip or experience increased a person's happiness more than buying a material object. An experience, whether it's anticipated or actualized, produced higher levels of dopamine and extends a lifetime.

You know, one can share and talk about it for the rest of their life, right? It's not just, oh, how long can you talk about? New iPhone you got, and maybe that person already has the same iPhone, so what does it matter? Right? But memories of a trip can be shared and talked about. And there's another study by the Institute of Applied Positive Research that said people found people to actually be happiest when they had a vacation or trip already planned.

And there's this excitement, and let me share with you, I know this for a fact, and it happens to me every time I go on a trip. I am so happier you. As when I have a trip planned already and I have this anticipation, I, I have this something to look forward to, right? We see this kind of, this, uh, place that we're gonna go that's gonna make things better, maybe, or take us away from the stress and dread of our day-to-day life.

It's just a whole thing for us, even just to get there, right? It's like you don't think it's gonna happen, but it's happening. And that's also the excitement of, you know, planning a trip and actually getting there. Anything could happen. And that's also the excitement, right, about the trip or the vacation that you're planning.

So I encourage you because planning a trip and anticipating a trip has such positive on your brain and your mental state that go ahead and. , plan it out. Even if you don't buy the ticket yet, I want you to go and research where you wanna go, right? Plan out. Look at pictures on the internet and see your happiness increase.
