71. Willpower and Self Control Are NOT The Keys To Weight Loss27 Sep 202400:12:09

If you think people who are thin have more willpower than those struggling to lose weight, think again. Our food decisions are influenced more by our external environment than our internal self regulation. We all have self control, but we also all have limits. When we tap into our willpower, we're going to deplete it, leaving ourselves vulnerable when the next food decision comes along.

Today, Dr. Lisa shares the findings from a clever study involving radishes, chocolate chip cookies, and willpower. If you're trying to lose weight, improve your health, and live healthier longer, it's critical to understand what influences your food decisions.

Perhaps it's time to give yourself grace, and have some self compassion when you feel too tapped out to pass on a chocolate chip cookie. Turns out, it isn't your fault. Fortunately, with a heightened awareness of what depletes your self control, and a plan for how to mitigate that, you can turn things around. With just a few tweaks and some self awareness, navigating food decisions just got a lot easier.

57. Thought Interrupting For Weight Loss and Stress Management21 Jun 202400:11:45

We ALL have moments when we ruminate and spin in negative thoughts. Often that happens at night, preventing us from sleeping well. And the more we spin, the more that negativity impacts our feelings, leaving us disempowered, angry, frustrated, or defeated. Of course when we feel defeated, we rarely focus on our self care. Who wants to eat broccoli, get some exercise, and work on weight loss when they feel defeated? Often, we prefer chocolate, wine, or pizza when we're trying to self soothe after ruminating. Today, Dr. Lisa reviews a technique called thought interrupting. It's a way to catch these spinning thoughts and reformat them, so we don't sabotage our weight loss, our sleep, and our health. Today's episode also features a cameo appearance by Dr. Lisa's daughter. Listen in to hear what she has to say about interrupting thoughts.

69. Are You ALL IN for Weight Loss & Better Health? 5 Ways to Know If You're On Track With The Right Mindset To Improve Your BMI, As Well As Your Healthspan13 Sep 202400:12:11

You might think that being ALL IN for weight loss means being super restrictive, giving up sugar, and going to the gym every day, but actually none of these hit Dr. Lisa's top 5 signs that you're ALL IN for weight loss.

Having a growth mindset is a reliable predictor of who will lose weight and transform their health. Those who stay on the struggle bus, and never get past feeling frustrated and stuck, are often blocked more by how they think than what they do.

If you've ever played an instrument or learned a foreign language, you might already have the skill set you need to reach your weight loss goals. If not, part of having a growth mindset is believing that it's never too late to work towards those goals, and that what's possible for others is possible for you too.
