Are you a people pleaser? Many of us find ourselves in roles, like customer service, that require pleasing others. But does that mean we’re truly people pleasers? Not necessarily.

In this episode, we’re exploring the difference between being helpful and falling into the trap of people pleasing. For some, the need to please others stems from a fear of failure or a desire to avoid guilt—feelings that can take a toll on your mental health and self-worth.

Here’s what we cover:

  • What is People Pleasing? Understanding its roots and how it can impact your life.
  • The Difference Between Helping and Pleasing: Why offering help doesn’t have to mean compromising yourself.
  • How to Overcome People Pleasing: Practical steps to break free from this habit.
  • Protecting Your Boundaries: How to prioritize your needs while still being kind and supportive.

Ready to let go of people pleasing and reclaim your time, energy, and confidence? Tune in for actionable tips to protect your boundaries and rediscover your self-worth.

Are You a Perfectionist?18 Nov 202400:23:38

BUY THE SLOW LIVING BOOK HERE!

Are you a perfectionist? In today’s episode, we’re taking a deep dive into what perfectionism really means, especially for those who feel they’re constantly struggling to keep up with their dreams or feel a fear of failure. This is a common theme among my coaching clients, and it’s often connected to deeper issues, like childhood trauma.

Here’s what we discuss:

  • The Perfectionism Cycle: Understanding how perfectionism can start in childhood and persist into adulthood, often affecting your “inner child.”
  • The Challenge of Being in the Moment: Why perfectionists often struggle to stay present and how this affects everyday life.
  • Recognizing Perfectionist Patterns: Learning to identify signs of perfectionism as the first step toward breaking free.
  • Embracing Your Authentic Self: Steps you can take to overcome perfectionism and work toward a more genuine, slow living life.

If you’re ready to let go of the need for perfection and embrace a more balanced life, this episode is for you. Listen in to start breaking the perfectionism cycle and become more comfortable in your own skin.

Shifting Goal Posts16 Sep 202400:31:36

BUY THE SLOW LIVING BOOK HERE!

We all have them - Goals! However, sometimes people can get caught up in a hustle culture trying to achieve their goals. Which in the end, leads to unhappiness.

Today we are talking about:

  • What happens once you achieve your goals?
  • What is arrival fallacy?
  • What is wrong with S.M.A.R.T. goals?

One of the most important things that I want you to take away from today's episode is, don't tie your self worth to your goals. Happiness and self worthiness are not on the other side of goal achievement, so stop the hustle culture and achieve goals in a healthy manner.

Now is the absolute perfect time to pop the ear buds in and binge-listen to the Slow Living podcast.

Dust while you listen.

or mop

or vacuum

or clean out the linen closet

or go walk laps in your neighborhood.

You’ll feel better about yourself if you stay productive while listening and there are now 64 episodes, which is about 32 hours worth of listening.

If you aren’t a fan of New Year’s Resolutions because you think they don’t “work” — then I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

I am a HUGE proponent of making & keeping my resolutions and am living out the life of my dreams because I’ve taken the time to craft and create and tweak and modify them throughout the last 20-odd years of my adult life.

 You can do this too.

It’s time. If you’ve been waiting for a nudge from the Universe —

 this is it.

 You have GOT THIS.

You really really do. Nothing is too far-fetched for the person who refuses to listen to reason.

Overview

I love helping listeners embark upon their own journey to Slow Down, and live the life they’ve always dreamt about: one filled with peace, purpose, and abundance.

I understand how you’re feeling when you are rushing around trying to do “all the things,” always playing catch up and finding time to get things done.

I know because I’m a mom too.

It’s okay to stop and breathe. My philosophy isn’t about cramming more and more into an already over-packed schedule, instead I offer realistic tips and plans to get things done quickly and efficiently so you can do things you want to do.

see all podcast notes at stephanieodea.com/podcastnotes

We have an encore episode queued up for you today.

I originally entitled it “How to get What You Want, When you Want it”

and today, I want you to listen with fresh ears — and think of Getting What You Want out of life as if you are placing an online order.

 Place your order.

DREAM.

DREAM BIG.

and then go about your life, doing the things you need to do, and trust that your order is on the way.

Slow Down. Unplug. Go within and decide on purpose what is important and what isn’t and what you (and only you) can do right now to change this doom and gloom trajectory for yourself.

Use the daily journaling worksheets. Listen to uplifting things. Decide that you are in charge and that you can do helpful things each and every day to better yourself and your life.

 And then just trust —

 your order is in transit.

I hope you enjoy this episode — and AS ALWAYS — if you have any questions or comments, shoot me an email or tag me @stephanieodea

Today’s episode is an encore episode — right around Thanksgiving I made a conscious decision that I was going to unplug as best I can and bunker down with my family for the holiday season.

and that happened even BEFORE the Universe decided it was time for me to have covid!!!

 Take a listen.

I’ve been coaching “for reals” since the fall of 2019. Some of my coaching clients have made ENORMOUS strides forward in all aspects of their life, just by journaling it all out and making a plan, and sticking with it.

I know, you are looking for something MAGICAL and MIND-BLOWING.

The biggest, shiniest, most bestest thing ever —

so me showing up in your inbox, and suggesting that taking the time to download journaling worksheets doesn’t seem all that revolutionary.

 Hear me out.

Take a listen to the podcast episode, and do the work.

If you aren’t where you want to be, you’ve really got nothing to lose.

Like always, I think you are wonderful and amazing and I’m proud of you.

I hope you enjoy this episode — and AS ALWAYS — if you have any questions or comments, shoot me an email or tag me @stephanieodea

Slow Living Podcast with Host Stephanie O'Dea Episode 61 - Slowing Down for the Holidays

see all podcast notes at stephanieodea.com/podcastnotes

This is a difficult time of the year to ‘get it all done’ —

even for the most grounded and centered and zen-ish person out there.

Sometimes the pressure to make everything memorable and perfect and create a photo-finish is enough to make us crack.

or enough to cause our back to go out.

Here I am, not able to move, a week after Thanksgiving.

I knew better, but I did way too much for way too many and neglected my own wants and wishes.

I know that if I stick to my sleep schedule, get up and meditate and journal before everyone else gets up, I feel calm, centered, and “in control.”

BUT. this past week at work was wonky — I had many teachers out sick (I’m a school secretary) so I was scrambling to find subs, we had our own crazy schedule at home with soccer and shuttling kids back to college and then back home again because of the UC strike —

 and I went too fast.

I KNEW I was going too fast.

and then, all of a sudden, my back went out.

SO, take a listen, and do better than I did. 😉

I hope you enjoy this episode — and AS ALWAYS — if you have any questions or comments, shoot me an email or tag me @stephanieodea

4 More Years28 Nov 202200:24:46
Slow Living Podcast with Host Stephanie O'Dea Episode 60 - 4 More Years

see all podcast notes at stephanieodea.com/podcastnotes

4 More Years.

I recorded this a week or so ago — and the theme is about paying attention to where you are right now — and if what you are doing will be “good enough” to do for the Next 4 Years.

are you on the right path?

is what you are doing sustainable for another 4 years?

 are you happy?

 do you feel satisfied?

I recorded this with the mindset that I am 4 years away from turning 50 — so I started asking myself these questions —

can I do what I’m doing now, and not feel burnt out, not feel taken for granted, not feel overworked and under-appreciated for another 4 Years?

 is that a possibility?

 What about for YOU?

if you keep going the way you’re going with your heath, your finances, your relationships —

will it look okay and BE OKAY in another 4 years?

 If not, why not?

what needs to change?

take a listen and LMK your thoughts — only you know what rings true for you and in your own life.

Go slow. Take the time to really ponder these questions as you move through your day/week/end of the month.

I hope you enjoy this episode — and AS ALWAYS — if you have any questions or comments, shoot me an email or tag me @stephanieodea

on Instagram or Facebook or record a voicemail question.

Slow Living Podcast with Host Stephanie O'Dea Episode 59 - Codependency

This is a great listen — I’ve now listened to it twice, and each time I got a different juicy nugget. Beth, a former coaching client of mine, called in and said that she recently discovered that she was Codependent and wanted to know my thoughts.

 And honestly?

Her declaration of being codependent threw me for a loop.

 a literal loop.

because I do not think of her this way.

So take a listen — and see what rings true for YOU.

sometimes we hear labels or diagnoses and hear OURSELVES — but not everything can be labeled or placed into a container.

and that’s what is fun about being human.

 and living.

 NOW.

who you were a few months ago does not define you.

your past job, your past relationship, your parents, your schooling, the books you’ve read —

NONE of that defines who you are right this very second.

Only you get to decide what thoughts to think and what they mean about you.

And me? the thoughts I think about you are filled with joy and love and compassion and wonderment.

Today’s email and episode is about exploring the effect alcohol has in your life —

is there a place for it?

is it taking up too much room?

In episode #24 we discussed labels — and how I’m not a fan of them. Deciding on purpose to really pay attention to how much alcohol (or food or social media) you are consuming does not mean you are an alcoholic. (Or that you have an eating disorder or are addicted to social media.)

I’d like you instead to take off the label and keep an open mind and just EXPLORE.

 Be Curious.

If something is not actively HELPING you move forward in your life and help you achieve your dream life, explore why you are continuing with it.

Step 1 in living a Slow Life is to Declutter all that is not working.

In this episode I also talk about the difference between Start Goals and Stop Goals and how to make them a daily habit.

I hope you enjoy this episode — and AS ALWAYS — if you have any questions or comments, shoot me an email or tag me @stephanieodea

Protecting Your Energy07 Nov 202200:33:03

see all podcast notes at stephanieodea.com/podcastnotes

Raise your hand if you’ve been told this before by well-meaning adults while you were growing up (teachers, parents, grumpy people in the grocery store) —

The World Does Not Revolve Around You.

 Probably, right?

It’s certainly a great way to shame kids and people and get them to stay in their lane.

Today on the podcast we are going to flip it.

If you are a mom, you most certainly ARE the center of the universe in your household.

And you need to be protected and cherished and nourished and treat yourself as the valuable and irreplaceable being of which you are.

Listen in as I share the thought shift that needs to happen in order for you to decide once and for all that you are IN CHARGE.

And you need to protect yourself so you can do your Being In Charge properly.

This isn’t a woe-is-me, I’m going to embrace martyrdom because no one else can possibly do it as good as I can —

 NO.

When you are in charge, you most certainly can delegate!! 😉

But you need to take care of yourself — all of your wants and needs FIRST.

 You are the center.

 you are the nucleus.

I hope you enjoy this episode — and AS ALWAYS — if you have any questions or comments, shoot me an email or tag me @stephanieodea

I had a few mindset upgrade coaching calls this week — (you can sign up for free, here) — (I love doing them!)

and the theme was essentially the same.

Feeling a bit sad. A bit down. Thinking that somehow THIS year would be different than the last two because the pandemic is essentially “over” —

but now that the year is coming to the end, the women I chatted with realized that they are still in the same place.

 Is this you, too?

And it’s tricky, because somehow we are all just sort of programmed to think that when we get through This or That or the Other busy season or tough situation things will be better.

 Easier.

 Simpler.

But nothing will change unless you MAKE IT CHANGE.

and depending on your mood — that either sounds empowering or debilitating.

Listen in as I share my thoughts and advice on deciding to make things happen and taking action even when you’d rather someone else do it for you.

The Joy Is in the Journey24 Oct 202200:23:49

see all podcast notes at stephanieodea.com/podcastnotes

This week’s episode is all about enjoying the HERE and NOW.

and not hoping and wishing and frantically praying for something better.

Just being Here. Content. At Peace. With whatever stage and phase you are in.

This is easier said than done, I know.

It’s because you have a great big juicy brain and you have been told over and over again to delay gratification and that you are only allowed to reward yourself for a job well done.

 Stop.

Take a deep breath and SLOW DOWN.

This is it. There are no do-overs.

YES — you can still have great big huge honking dreams and goals — but do not for a millisecond delay your contentment and your peace and your happiness until you have “reached” them.

(because we all know that you’re gonna move the goalposts, anyhow!)

 Be happy.

Be content.

Cultivate joy and contentment.

 Now.

I hope you enjoy this episode — and AS ALWAYS — if you have any questions or comments, shoot me an email or tag me @stephanieodea

Estrangement happens later in life when a family member cuts off another family member. This could be an adult child deciding to distant themselves from a parent or relative. Many times it is because the adult child is attempting to protect themselves.

So... how do you keep your children from becoming estranged from you?

Clinical psychologist Lindsay C. Gibson wrote the book "Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents" where she talks about the four types of difficult parents. I am sharing with you more detail on these parenting types and how they can lead to estrangement in the adult childhood years.

  • The emotional parent
  • The driven parent
  • The passive parent
  • The rejecting parent

There are many ways to prevent them from becoming estranged, one of the most simple is having good communication. Say your sorry, show humility, and really work on yourself!

Learn more about the four types of parents from Lindsay C. Gibson in her book, Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents.

Smart Goals are Stupid17 Oct 202200:24:42

see all podcast notes at stephanieodea.com/podcastnotes

If you’ve been here for a while and have read my writing, you will know that I am a HUGE proponent of Goal Setting and Achieving.

When I want something, I go out and make it happen.

 I really do. 🙂

 BUT I HATE S.M.A.R.T. goals.

Mostly because I don’t like being told what to do. Even if the somebody doing the telling is me.

In this episode we talk about making goals that FEEL good — and that you are DRAWN towards — rather than being pushed into.

Trust me, it is a MUCH better feeling to spring out of bed in the morning and be excited to take on the day because you are just so gosh darn thrilled to make forward progress on whatever it is you’re working on —

then to feel drudgery in your body.

Listen in as I explain the ins and outs of making things happen

without the Hustle or the Hype.

I promise, you can live out the life of your dreams — in a Slow, Calm, and Peaceful way — and still make amazing forward progress in your personal and life goals.

Listen in — and LMK your thoughts!!

I hope you enjoy this episode — and AS ALWAYS — if you have any questions or comments, shoot me an email or tag me @stephanieodea

So — what’s your plan when you have a horrible day?

what do you do when you don’t want to do anything?

Remember — life isn’t a game of Chutes and Ladders —

you won’t slide backwards if you aren’t feeling well or need to take a day off from moving forwards on your goals and dreams.

BUT.

In order for YOU to feel good about YOU —

you do need to decide what your basic bare minimum is.

and that’s what this week’s episode is all about.

see all podcast notes at stephanieodea.com/podcastnotes

Today’s topic is about the Power of Consistency. And consistency is an AWFUL LOT LIKE PARENTING WHEN YOU ARE TIRED.

You just do the thing you said you were going to do, even when you don’t feel like it.

 even when you’re tired.

even if it isn’t your “best work” —

and trust that just by taking the teeny tiny baby steps forward, no matter what those steps look like, will get you where you want to go.

I promise you that I am no different and no better than you.

I get tired and I get cranky and I would much rather curl up on the couch and binge-watch Southern Charm and yell at Shep and Craig —

 but.

I promised myself and I promised YOU that I would keep showing up and recording these podcasts and I promised my coaching clients that I would keep listening and advising and helping and supporting.

So I keep doing the things I said I would do.

 Consistency is my super power.

Listen in and learn how you, too, can make it yours.

see all podcast notes at stephanieodea.com/podcastnotes

Last week we talked about Toxic People —

and what to do if you feel as if someone you need to interact with regularly displays toxic behavior.

Today on the podcast we are flipping that and discussing Making and Keeping Adult Friendships —

because making and keeping friends as an adult is MUCH MORE DIFFICULT than it was when we were kids —

kids can just “play” together — there isn’t necessarily an emotional connection and you certainly don’t need to discuss religion or politics or have “stuff in common” outside of just being in the same sandbox at the same time!

Listen in as I describe what the 5 types of relationships you have to nurture and maintain as an adult and how to find casual friends and acquaintances —

and how it is A-OKAY to not be living the lifestyle of a television sitcom where you have friends to hang out with at all times of the day.

Dealing with Toxic People19 Sep 202200:33:25
Slow Living Podcast with Host Stephanie O'Dea Episode 50 - Dealing with Toxic People

see all podcast notes at stephanieodea.com/podcastnotes

Let’s talk TOXIC PEOPLE today.

The easiest thing to do is to stay away from anyone who you believe is poisonous to you or to your well-being.

 that’s a no brainer.

The problem is, that in a well-functioning society (or a family/extended family, or in a work place (which really is just a mini-society)) —

sometimes you just can’t stay away.

This is REAL LIFE. and in real life sometimes you just need to (unfortunately) do things you don’t want to do and interact with people you don’t want to.

The newest episode of the Slow Living podcast is out and in this episode I answer a question from a listener on how to “deal with” people in your life that aren’t all that good for you.

I explain the “grey rock” approach and how to put yourself into a “hamster ball” —

we also talk about how to separate the Behavior from the Person —

and what to do when the Behavior is no longer matching the Person because of dementia or another debilitating life event.

I also share the name of my favorite book about dealing with Narcistic people.

Let’s set the record straight —

living a SLOW life doesn’t mean you laze around the house doing nothing but eating bon-bons all day.

It means taking the time to DECIDE what it is you want and then slowly, thoughtfully, and with intention GOING FOR IT.

bit by bit, baby step by baby step.

In a word, it’s anti-hustle. (is that two words? does the hyphen make it one word?)

 ANYWAYS.

“Quiet Quitting” has been in the news an AWFUL lot lately. And the media is trying to make it seem like it’s a bad thing.

 It’s not.

and that’s what this newest podcast episode is all about.

Who here wants to be More Productive?

It really sounds backwards, right, to be talking about doing MORE or being MORE while on a list about Slow Living?

 I know.

 Hear me out.

If you’ve been following along for the past 48 weeks, you know that living a SLOW LIFE doesn’t mean that you are lazing around the house eating bon-bons and watching life pass you by.

 No.

Being Intentionally Slow means that you are taking the time to cull the things from your day-to-day life that no longer serve you and you are Making a PLAN to do the things that you WANT to do —

and you’re not just doing the things that you Have to do or the things that you think you “SHOULD” be doing —

and when you do these things — the WANT-TO-DOs — it feels pretty darn good.

 but sometimes?

part of being an adult is just getting to work. Because you’ve got to pay bills, keep milk in the fridge, etc. etc.

and that is what we are going to talk about today.

I hope you enjoy this episode — and AS ALWAYS — if you have any questions or comments, shoot me an email or tag me @stephanieodea

“There’s too much to do and not enough time to do it!”

Sound familiar?

Even in today’s advanced societal age — women really do bear the burden of having TOO MANY THINGS TO DO.

 it’s not fair.

 it’s not right.

and it seems as if it’s really not going to change any time soon.

but you can ABSOLUTELY do something about the feeling of overwhelm that can knock you out — especially when you are at your lowest.

and that’s what we are going to talk about today.

Listen in as I answer a listener question from Michelle about how to properly set boundaries and learn how to “pay herself first” and foremost —

we also discuss coping strategies, when to say NO to social invitations and obligations

how to recover when you feel in the midst of an upcoming panic attack or freak out

why talking to yourself like a little kid is a valuable skill to learn

and how Acceptance of Reality goes a very long way in living a calm, peaceful, tranquil, and SLOW life.

Cultivating Creativity Part 222 Aug 202200:42:47

see all podcast notes at stephanieodea.com/podcastnotes

This is part 2 of my 2-part series with Kim Demmon of the Today's Creative Life website.

So why is Creativity important, and why should you cultivate it?

Because humans are designed to keep busy and entertain our brains. A lot of times we give all our “good stuff” away to others — and so then we are kind of left feeling a bit sad, a bit like we are missing “SOMETHING” —

creativity — in any form — is something JUST FOR US.

Just for YOU.

it’s not a side hustle. it’s not something to prove to your friends (IRL or in the computer…)

it is FOR YOU.

Cultivating Creativity Part 115 Aug 202200:45:49
Slow Living Podcast with Host Stephanie O'Dea Episode 45 - Cultivating Creativity Part 1

see all podcast notes at stephanieodea.com/podcastnotes

Today’s episode is an interview with one of the best people I’ve ever met, Kim Demmon, of Today's Creative Life website.

I mentioned Kim briefly in episode 44, when I was discussing online influencers and after I finished that recording, I texted right away and asked if she’d be willing to be on the show.

we chatted so long that this interview is in 2 parts.

Kim and I get right down to being personal and transparent about WHY and HOW the internet can suck out and chip away at creativity and how to put your blinders on so you DO YOU —

Because we all are creative beings — it doesn’t matter what your creative side looks like — crafting, writing, gardening, scrapbooking, homesteading, decorating

but if you spend too much time looking at what other people are doing you can think you aren’t all that creative.

 and that’s not fun.

This is it, this is life. Do the things you’ve wanted to do — start small, start slow, and start creating.

Kim is the owner/operator of two online sites:

Today’s Creative Life

Jack Pine Jones

We also go off topic a bit (a lot) and talk about hormones, MLMs, online influencers, making money on blogs, aging, and how we both sleep with CPAP machines.

Today’s episode is about how difficult it can sometimes be to put blinders on and Play Your Own game —

 because of Influencers —

I get a bit personal in this episode and share quite a few stories and incidents that have occurred in my own life while I was in the midst of my A Year of Slow Cooking/Crockpotting adventures.

Because not all that you see is real.

I know you already know this — but it’s really difficult sometimes to weed out what is accurate and authentic and what isn’t when it comes to posts online.

Listen in as I share how brands tried their hardest to convince me what I should and shouldn’t say when it came to their products and how I decided to turn money down in order to stick to my ideals and ethics.

I also list two movies that are really eye-opening when it comes to Influencer culture.

Imperfect Action01 Aug 202200:29:48
Slow Living Podcast with Host Stephanie O'Dea Episode 43 - Imperfect Action

see all podcast notes at stephanieodea.com/podcastnotes

Let’s talk taking action —

even when you don’t feel like it.

because in order to move from where you are to where you want to go, you have got to do something about it.

You can’t just sit around and hope and wish for change —

you’ve got to actually do the things that need to be done.

even when you’re tired. or bummed out. or when it’s too hot or too cold.

and that really really really stinks.

And I’ve got to tell you, this does not come easy to me sometimes.

I have a lazy streak and I’d a lot of times rather just sit on the couch and not do anything even though I *KNOW* I’d feel accomplished and better about myself if I just got up and did SOMETHING.

 Also?

I’m a bit of a perfectionist.

and it’s really easy to tell myself “why bother if it’s not going to be all that good anyway?”

Listening to The Universe25 Jul 202200:31:26
Slow Living Podcast with Host Stephanie O'Dea Episode 42 - Listening to The Universe

see all Slow Living Podcast notes, here.

In today’s episode I go back in time and talk about who I was and where I was BEFORE 2008 —

in 2008 I made a New Year’s Resolution to use my slow cooker every day and write about it online.

But I had dreams and goals and visions that started from a very (very!) early age and in this episode I share how I initially programmed my GPS and how I listened to nudges and inklings from within and from God or The Universe to figure out my next steps.

Creating a Morning Routine18 Jul 202200:25:54
Slow Living Podcast with Host Stephanie O'Dea Episode 41 - Creating a Morning Routine

see all Slow Living Podcast notes, here.

Let’s talk morning routines.

There’s a lot of schtuff that floats around on the internet that says that you HAVE GOT TO do this or that or the other thing in order to have a solid morning routine.

 NO.

 You don’t.

This is real life and real life isn’t perfect.

I’d like for you to take some time today and figure out what would make YOU FEEL GOOD each morning — something that would set you up for success —

and what you do might be opposite of what your neighbor down the street does who is “crushing it” —

 and that is okay.

but if you aren’t fully at peace — if you haven’t conquered all of the things you want to do yet here on this planet —

and you’re worried you might not be on the correct trajectory —

 change it.

you are in charge and you get to decide what works for you and what doesn’t.

n this recording I share that I have created a one-page journaling worksheet that I use (I do take a stack along when we travel, too! 😉 ) every morning while my coffee is brewing.

We are going to have an August journaling challenge in the facebook group. We’d love to have you join in!

Here is the worksheet. I hope you find it useful.

I hope you enjoy this episode — and AS ALWAYS — if you have any questions or comments, shoot me an email or tag me @stephanieodea

Today we are going to dive into a listener question from Tracy, who asks how to deal with the “Sunday Scaries.”

Listen in as I share easy ways to try and ease the pain and anxiety that comes every weekend when you are trying to balance work, family, inlaws, and social obligations.

It’s tricky. I’m not going to lie and say that everything is always going to be sunshine and roses and sparkly unicorns when you learn how to SLOW DOWN —

But. There are definitely some things that you (and Tracy!) can do to help ease the burden and the anxiety.

Today’s podcast episode — episode #37 will help you answer this question if you find that you can’t easily answer it.

And guess what? If you CAN’T easily answer it, You are Not Alone.

 Most people can’t.

In this episode I answer a listener question from Chelsea, who asks how to uncover your purpose —

so then you know how to chart out your long term goals, and from there, your short term goals.

this is an important discussion — and your Purpose is NOT your Profession.

Let’s talk resilience.

Would you consider yourself a resilient person?

do you “go with the flow”

or

look at obstacles with an open-mind and a dose of flexibility?

 or do you

crumble and shut down and look at bumps in the road as “red flags” or “signs” that it’s not “meant to be?”

what if it didn’t have to be so hard?

what if you could keep your eye on the metaphysical ball and keep plugging forward —

even against insurmountable or PERCEIVED insurmountable odds?

That’s what resilience is.

Understanding Capacity26 Aug 202400:31:05

BUY THE SLOW LIVING BOOK HERE!

The definition of disappointment is when your expectations don't meet the reality and this happens a lot of the time. Many times it happens when we have reached our capacity limit.

Day to day your capacity can change, depending on many variables that you can't control.

You are not a computer or a cell phone -- you're a human and "recharging" your battery isn't always super simple.

Within this episode we talk about what you can do to recharge yourself and how to protect your boundaries from others who may be draining.

I also talk about a "Bucket Filling" book that my children read in school -- and one that is a great metaphor for life.

At the end of the day, you can really only rely on and control yourself.

So go slow and Simply. Look. Only. Within.

Mom You're Amazing30 May 202200:49:37
Slow Living Podcast with Host Stephanie O'Dea Episode 34 - Mom You're Amazing

On today’s podcast episode I recorded a conversation with my friend Sandy Cooper, of the Scoop on Balance website and the Balanced MomCast.

Sandy and I met online roughly 15 years ago — and we immediately hit it off.

Sandy has written an amazing book which shares her beautiful writing and essays —

this is a fantastic book to pack along with you on your summer vacation and it also is a FABULOUS gift for you and all of the moms in your life.

If you didn’t get everything you wanted for Mother’s Day, do yourself a favor and hop on over to Amazon and gift yourself Sandy‘s book.

For some reason, the audio on my microphone dipped in and out during this recording.

I’m really bummed this happened. 🙁

I am not exactly certain why this occurred, but it did.

I hope that even with the funky sound and volume issues you get a TON OF VALUE from this episode and fall in love with Sandy the way I originally did.

Healing Childhood Trauma23 May 202200:25:22
Slow Living Podcast with Host Stephanie O'Dea Episode 33 - Healing Childhood Trauma

see all podcast notes at stephanieodea.com/podcastnotes

Today we are going to be talking about trauma.

ALWAYS a fun and uplifting topic!!

I’d like for you to take a listen, *even if* you don’t think this topic applies to you or to your life.

Because it does.

Even if you had an idyllic childhood, there are some things in your past that you need to sort through.

and if you are a parent or are someone who works with children, you should take a listen so you know how to help the children in your lives process day-to-day events and occurings properly.

help people get from where they are NOW to where they WANT to be, by helping people achieve their goals.

That’s it.

and I LOVE every bitty bit of it.

And the truth is, if you are finding that you aren’t making forward progress towards your goals — or if you find that you aren’t interested in even *setting* goals —

and you are living on the perpetual-hamster-wheel-of-life —

then you’ve got some cleaning up to do.

I know because I’m a mom too.

It’s okay to stop and breathe. My philosophy isn’t about cramming more and more into an already over-packed schedule, instead I offer realistic tips and plans to get things done quickly and efficiently so you can do things you want to do.

Stephanie's Story

I know what it feels like to want to live a calm, peaceful, and harmonious life but you feel like you can’t because there is simply too much to do. I believe that if we are lucky, life is long. You are not behind, and you don’t need to rush around, trying to catch up. My philosophy isn’t about cramming more and more into an already over-packed schedule.

Instead, I want to you to stop. Breathe. It’s all going to be okay.

I want you to live out the life you’ve always dreamt about — the one that gets you excited to get up in the morning and puts a goofy grin on your face.

Because the laundry, chores, soccer practice, meal planning, and litter box scooping? That’s...

Mindset Is Everything18 Apr 202200:26:15
Slow Living Podcast with Host Stephanie O'Dea Episode 28 - Mindset Is Everything

Today, we are going to talk MINDSET.

This word gets thrown around an awful lot —

and I have a lot of thoughts on what it means, what it doesn’t, and how to slowly and carefully massage your mindset into one that works well for you — in whatever phase of life you might be currently in.

In a nutshell — mindset is about staying in the here and now and paying attention, without judgment, to what your brain is saying.

You have a constant dialogue – when you are driving, when you are trying to fall asleep –

And a lot of times you aren’t paying attention to what your thoughts and mental chatter say –

And I’m suggesting that in order to live out the life of your dreams – the kind of life you want to live on purpose –

You should try your hardest to pay attention to your thoughts the very best that you can.

Mindfulness is a psychological process that allows you to pay attention to experiences as they happen without judgment.

It’s simple:

It’s about fully attending to what’s happening, to what you’re doing, and where you are.

Mindfulness plays a huge part in emotional stability because it represents one single factor:

It allows you to be not overly reactive to the negative situations happening in your life.

Creating Stability11 Apr 202200:30:01
Slow Living Podcast with Host Stephanie O'Dea Episode 27 - Creating Stability

Let’s talk S-T-A-B-I-L-I-T-Y.

Do you feel stable on a day to day basis?

do you feel as if “everything is under control?”

or do you feel floundery and that your mood, your thoughts, your reactions, your finances, and even your household organization?

I used to think that it was my surroundings, my coworkers, my children, and my circumstances that determined my mood or the outcome of my day.

That’s not the case.

True stability comes from within.

and that is what today’s podcast is all about.

Success Secrets Part 207 Mar 202200:39:00
Slow Living Podcast with Host Stephanie O'Dea Episode 22 - Success Secrets Part 2

The second episode in a 3-episode series of Success Secrets based upon Brian Tracy's 21 Success Secrets of Self-Made Millionaires.

These ‘success secrets’ have been percolating in my brain for the past 20 years or so —

I’ve read an awful lot of Self-Help and Personal Development books (hundreds!!) and always felt a bit bummed — they never felt like they were speaking *to me* — they were either for women who were really interested in all things homemaking and couponing and entertaining or they seemed geared towards business men.

and while I *do* have aspects of myself that likes things clean and tidy — I am not a Martha Stewart-type. I just don’t seem to care all that much! 😉

and while I *do* have my own business, I’m not all that business-y!

So I hope you enjoy this episode — and AS ALWAYS — if you have any questions or comments, shoot me an email or tag me @stephanieodea on Instagram or Facebook or record a voicemail question.
