After cultivating techniques as a singer, performer, and music educator, Dana Lentini created Born 2 Sing Kids to nurture the development of young singers through a systematic, yet customised approach. Through various forms of mentorship, she helps teachers learn about the unique differences in teaching singing to children and how to build their own successful studios. ABOUT THE GUEST Walt Fritz is a physical therapist from Upstate New York, USA. Since beginning work as a manual therapy educator in the mid-1990s, he has more recently evolved into teaching a unique interpretation of manual therapy for speech-language pathologists, registered dental hygienists, voice professionals, and related communities. This approach advances views of causation and impact from historical tissue-specific models into a multifactorial narrative, leaning heavily on biopsychosocial influences. His principles apply to a broad spectrum of intervention models using a model of evaluation and intervention that incorporates shared decision-making rather than clinician-as-expert. ABOUT THE GUEST Dr. Felix Graham is a New York-based performer, teacher, conductor and author. Felix found his musical 'home' by way of the operatic and concert stage where started life as a 'pants' mezzo - his primary repertoire consisting primarily of pants roles, or operatic drag – women singing young male characters...or sometimes, the more complicated version: a woman playing a young man, disguised as young woman. As he explored gender transition in his personal life, he was inspired by the recursive nature of these pants roles, bringing that gender fluidity and characterisation to cabaret as well as his concert repertoire. As an academic, Dr. Graham has presented research and workshops at home and abroad on vocal habilitation, gender, trans voice and inclusive choral methods. His private teaching practices focuses on vocal health and retraining, as well as guiding clients in reconciling their voice and personal identity. Additionally, he taught choral methods and applied voice at Teachers College, Columbia University and the City University of New York, served as musical director for the off-Broadway production Love is a Many-Splintered Thing, and currently serves as music director of the TRANScend Vocal Ensemble in New York City. ABOUT THE GUEST Carrie Birmingham is vocal teacher and researcher based across Liverpool and Leeds. Alongside running her own private studio, Pro Vox based in Liverpool, she is also a Senior Popular Vocals Lecturer at Leeds Conservatoire, a Vocal Health Education First Aid Assessor, a Singing Specialist Volunteer (VRC) at the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen Hospital voice clinic, alongside current study as a PhD candidate at the School of Music, University of Leeds; specialising in 'Singers' experiences of working with in-ear technology'. As a hearing-impaired alt-rock singer currently wearing one hearing aid, her recent years of research have taken a specific focus as to 'how we hear' and more specifically 'how singers hear', alongside 'the impact of hearing devices/protection during live performance', which is a field lacking in research. Carrie hopes to bring new theories to light within this subject matter across coming years. Carrie recently completed her MA in Applied Practice of Vocal Pedagogy with Voice Workshop Ltd. alongside recent years' worth of CPD in Vocal Anatomy, Vocal Health, Teaching Young and Changing Voices, Auditory Processing, Vocal Rehab, and The Exploration of Tinnitus, to name a few. Prior to recent studies she holds a Teaching Diploma in Popular Vocals from the London College of Music, and a Ba (Hons) Popular Music & Drama and Theatre Studies from Liverpool Hope University. Her performance experience spans over 20 years as a dancer, musical theatre performer, actor, flautist, saxophonist, singer-songwriter performing in a variety of venues and performance settings across the UK, most notably fronting alternative-rock band, F I G U R E S since 2015 and now a new duo project, Charlie's Girl launched in late 2021. Kerrie Obert is a speech language pathologist and singing voice specialist from Columbus Ohio. Ms. Obert holds degrees in both musical theatre performance and speech language pathology. She spent nearly 20 years working at The Ohio State University JamesCare Voice & Swallowing Disorders Clinic where she performed thousands of endoscopies as part of a diagnostic team and provided therapy to patients with a wide variety of laryngeal disorders. Ms. Obert was instrumental in setting up the Singing Health Specialization at OSU and served as the Director of Medical Arts for that program. Although she stepped away from her clinical duties at OSU, she remains on the faculty for research purposes. Ms. Obert has written four books on voice and has conducted clinical research using acoustics, MRI and EGG. She has presented on several continents and is passionate about bridging science and art. ABOUT THE GUEST Aliki loves singing in all its varieties, especially extreme vocals. A soprano, she started classical singing lessons at age 16, which she continues to this day. Realising early on that classical technique couldn't produce some tones that interested her, Aliki took contemporary singing lessons in a variety of styles and eventually trained as a singing teacher. ABOUT THE GUEST Following a varied career in music, archaeology, forensics, TV and finance, Chloe retrained and graduated from the University College of Osteopathy with a Masters in Osteopathy (MOst). With a background in sports massage, drama and singing (both in teaching and performance) Chloe has a unique insight into manual therapy for the voice. Her approach is both holistic and patient centred: she treats the whole person, not just the voice, and actively encourages the patient to engage in their own recovery through education and home-based ongoing exercises. Her treatments include standard osteopathic techniques of manipulation and soft tissue work, alongside more gentle interventions depending on the individual case. Chloe has also trained in cranial osteopathy with the Sutherland College of Cranial Osteopathy and breathing therapy with Dr Rosalba Courtney, and is interested in optimising breath and respiratory health for the voice. She currently works as resident osteopath for the Voice Care Centre in London, and at Still House Clinic in Egham, Surrey.
