Brian and Fitzy welcome back Simply Red's Matt Henderson to the podcast to dig into the 2-2 dramatic draw at Nottingham Forest. | 251: Ruben, Ruben, Ruben, 3 on the bounce | 28 Oct 2025 | 00:50:26
Brian, Dale and Fitzy reflect on Manchester United's 4-2 win over Brighton in the Premier League. The victory takes United's win streak to three matches - the longest under Ruben Amorim. Less questions are being asked of Ruben Amorim's system as United appear to have reached a turning point. Hopefully, there is more evidence of that when the Reds travel to Nottingham Forest this weekend. Thanks for your continued support of the Simply Red Podcast. Hosted on Acast. | 148: How Lisandro Martinez fits in at United | 18 Jul 2022 | 00:34:27
The Strettycast is a leading podcast for Manchester United fans brought to you by StrettyNews.com. Dale and Shaun are excited about the arrival of Lisandro Martinez. The Argentine has previously played as a defensive midfielder, but over the past two years became a vital part of Erik ten Hag's defence, playing alongside Jurrien Timber. Timber is seen as the next best thing to come out of the Amsterdam club, however, it is understood that he will be staying put for at least another year. We joke about the media's fascination with Martinez's height and hope egg doesn't splash on our faces when the season begins. Also on the agenda:

The Strettycast is a leading podcast for Manchester United fans brought to you by StrettyNews.com. Manchester United gave Melbourne Victory a lesson at the AAMI Park stadium. It was to be expected. Scott McTominay, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford got on the scoresheet. To make matters worse for Melbourne Victory, who were playing their first game in pre-season, one of their players kicked the ball into his own net to make it 4-1 at the end. Dale shares some immediate thoughts on the game and reacts to the signing of Christian Eriksen. There’s also some news on Lisandro Martinez, who we expect to be announced in the coming days. The Strettycast is a leading podcast for Manchester United fans brought to you by StrettyNews.com. Dale runs through some talking points from Erik ten Hag's first game in charge. The Dutchman marked the occasion with a strong starting line-up, with Bruno Fernandes named as captain, while Harry Maguire sat out the game due to a minor injury. We also come away from Bangkok after beating the Scousers 4-0! A fantastic day at the office, but we are not naive enough to suggest the rest of Ten Hag's journey will be plain sailing. We suspect there will be a few bumps along the way even if the early signs are encouraging. Dale looks at Ten Hag's approach to the game and some of the noticeable tactics from the first 90 minutes. The centre-backs were adventurous, our full-backs pressed high up the pitch and we created plenty of chances in the first-half. A chat about Manchester United with Dale O'Donnell and Shaun Connolly. The two lads share their thoughts on Manchester United's 1-0 win over West Ham in the Premier League for the latest episode of the Strettycast. Rashford took the headlines AGAIN, with his last-minute winner as United climbed into the top four, and regular listeners will understand how that makes us feel. Later on in this episode, Shaun raises a valid argument about United's future at right-back and why we should be keeping an eye on Bournemouth between now and end of the season. On the latest Strettycast, Dale and Shaun discuss the 3-1 win over little old Brentford. It was United's 300th away win in the Premier League and Thomas Frank had a chip on his shoulder at full-time. The Brentford manager weirdly name-checked Jadon Sancho, who wasn't in the squad, and claimed that his side destroyed United. We take a deeper look into David de Gea's performances this season - after another 'standout' display between the sticks. Dale is joined again by Shaun to review Manchester United's latest game - a disappointing 2-2 draw away to Aston Villa. United held a 2 goal lead thanks to a brace from Bruno Fernandes, but that was before Philippe Coutinho came off the bench to make an instant impact on his Villa debut. Too many individual mistakes allowed Villa back into a game that United should've won - from the position they held at 2-0 - but we bottled it. | 134: We need to talk about Marcus Rashford | 12 Jan 2022 | 00:34:16
"What is wrong with Marcus Rashford?" That was probably the most frequently asked question as fans left Old Trafford on Monday night, after Manchester United knocked Aston Villa out of the FA Cup. The England international is not playing well and his body language is completely off at the moment, but sadly that has brought a surge of ill-advised opinions on the United star. | 128: You can't paper over cracks, with Daniel Nardiello | 03 Nov 2021 | 00:31:46
All the talk after Tuesday night's 2-2 draw was about how Cristiano Ronaldo was papering over the cracks at Manchester United. Daniel Nardiello strongly disagrees - but that is not to say all is well at Old Trafford, as Dale O'Donnell explains on the show. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is on the brink heading into the Manchester derby, but recent results against Tottenham and Atalanta will give him a little boost before facing the current champions. Man City go into the game without a centre-forward but have plenty of attacking players to hurt us, especially with Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof sidelined through injury. | 127: From The Archives - Wayne Rooney - Manchester United's all-time record goalscorer | 21 Oct 2021 | 00:51:30
From The Archives - with Shaun and James from StrettyNews.com. Wayne Rooney is Manchester United's all-time leading scorer and the only player to have scored 250 goals for the Reds. He hung up his boots at the age of 35 and currently manages Derby County, so the lads take a look back to his time at Old Trafford after bursting onto the scene at Everton. We decided to focus on Rooney because he will undoubtedly go down in history as one of United's - and, indeed, English football's - greatest-ever forwards. Rooney has won everything he could have in a Manchester United shirt. Born in the Croxteth suburb of Liverpool, he grew up supporting Everton. It was evident from an extremely early age that he would never be far from a football. He excelled for Liverpool Schoolboys - scoring a record breaking 72 goals in the 1996-97 season, a record that stood until 2010. With performances of this magnitude, he would inevitably attract much attention. "Remember the name - Wayne Rooney!" Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has some big games coming up and neither Dale or Nards are confident about Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly forming a pairing at the back. Leicester City will be out to sniff blood but so will Atalanta, Liverpool, Tottenham and Man City in upcoming fixtures. | 125: More questions after United's 2-1 win over Villarreal | 30 Sep 2021 | 00:31:28
Dale O'Donnell is joined by Shaun Connolly to look back on Manchester United's 2-1 win over Villarreal in the UEFA Champions League. The Reds didn't perform well and more questions are asked of the football we are seeing under Solskjaer, though the result on the night shouldn't be underestimated as Villarreal have long proved to be a tricky opponent. Diogo Dalot had a night to form but could more have been done, at least tactically, to support the under pressure Portuguese full-back? David de Gea had his best performance in years and the manager thought he was the best goalkeeper in the world (again) on Wednesday night. | 124: Pressure is on | 29 Sep 2021 | 00:23:53
This is the Strettycast, a podcast dedicated to Manchester United, hosted by Dale O'Donnell who is joined by former academy graduate Daniel Nardiello. Another downbeat episode after a poor result losing 1-0 at home to Aston Villa. One again, a team wearing Claret and Blue came to Old Trafford to pull off a smash-and-grab win. This time we dropped three points - not just a place in the Carabao Cup. The next visitors will be Villarreal and we all still have memories from that night in Gdansk. They don't play for draws but have drawn five of their first six matches in La Liga. While they would love to come and get a point, a draw wouldn't be enough for United after losing their first UEFA Champions League game of the season away to Young Boys. Enjoy the podcast! | 122: Carabao Cup exit | 24 Sep 2021 | 00:20:38
Manchester United have played West Ham twice since our last recording - winning 2-1 win in the Premier League and losing 1-0 in the Carabao Cup. This means Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side has managed 13 points from the first five league matches of the season, but they've also crashed out of the League Cup prematurely - and everyone knows the manager needs a trophy. Dale is joined by former academy graduate Daniel Nardiello to discuss the games and several performers. Cristiano Ronaldo made it 3 goals in 4 games at the weekend before Jesse Lingard and David de Gea took the headlines after a memorable trip to London, but it wasn't a night to remember at Old Trafford on Wednesday. Saturday's early kick-off will see United aiming to get back to winning ways and to stay within reach of first place in the Premier League table. | 121: Shock in Switzerland after Cristiano Ronaldo party | 16 Sep 2021 | 00:33:57
The atmosphere at Old Trafford was something else on Saturday for Cristiano Ronaldo’s homecoming, so Dale is joined by two guests to talk about the 4-1 win over Newcastle United and the drab 2-1 defeat away to Young Boys.
Brian Murphy and Shaun Connolly give their thoughts immediately after the final whistle in Switzerland, and we’ll have a separate podcast later this week with Daniel Nardiello to get his usual insight as a former academy graduate at Manchester United.
It went very wrong against Young Boys but, despite what you see across social media, nobody on this podcast is calling for the manager’s head. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is doing a good job, but he needs to do a great job.
Expectations are as high as they could be even after a hiccup in the Champions League – because that’s what we believe it is… rather than a repeat of last year’s campaign, when United crashed into the Europa League.
Europa League Varane doesn’t quite have the same ring to it!

| 120: Cristiano Ronaldo returns | 02 Sep 2021 | 00:34:10 | |
A balanced but insightful chat between Dale O'Donnell, Daniel Nardiello and Jonathan Shrager after the summer transfer window shut. In this episode we discussed Cristiano Ronaldo's return to the club and expectations for the coming season after securing 7 points from the opening three matches of the Premier League season. The glaring issues that existed a week ago remain despite the arrival of Ronaldo, so Dale asks the lads whether the business done over the summer is enough to see United compete for the Premier League title. And Shrager makes a very valid point on that - about what people think when they say 'challenge'. Nards tells us what it was like being at United when Ronaldo first joined the club, as a skinny 18-year-old from Sporting Lisbon. | 119: Better call Saul and leave VdB on hold? | 25 Aug 2021 | 00:34:27
In this episode Nards, Shaun and I discuss the 1-1 draw against Southampton at the weekend. Was it a reality check? Even without our new marquee signings signing, the glaring issues won't be addressed until Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gets the midfield he wants. We analyse the decision to shift Mason Greenwood out wide on the right to accommodate Anthony Martial, kneejerk reactions from social media, implications for Donny van de Beek if Saul Niguez joins before deadline day, Declan Rice's situation and Gary Neville's obsession with Harry Kane. Nards, as a former striker that came through the United academy, shows how all he can see is goals - like a true goalscorer. | 116: Does Solskjaer have the tools to compete for the Premier League? | 03 Aug 2021 | 00:18:53
Stretty News editor Dale O'Donnell discusses the expectations on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer next season. Manchester United have significantly boosted their squad with two additions this summer, including Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane, which has been enough to make us optimistic. That's healthy for a football fan - to feel this way before the season starts - but does Solskjaer have the tools when it truly matters? | HERE WE GO! Transfer special with Fabrizio Romano - Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane, Eduardo Camavinga | 29 Jun 2021 | 00:34:13
Dale is joined by Fabrizio Romano on the podcast! The Italian football journalist joins me for a run down on everything Manchester United in the transfer market. Manchester United are still in the process of completing a deal to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund and reports suggest they will quickly turn their attention to signing a centre-back to bolster Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's defence. Paul Pogba's future remains up in the air but United's stance is clear. They want the Frenchman to stay and sign a new contract -- now with France out of the Euros, we should see movement on that front soon. We also talk about Eduardo Camavinga, who has been heavily linked with a move this summer. His contract expires at Rennes next summer and United could see that as a potential bargain down the line. | Episode 114 - Europa League disappointment is very VillarREAL | 29 May 2021 | 00:31:06
Dale O'Donnell reflects on Europa League heartache. Yes, we'll get over it. It's a second-rate competition at the end of the day but it's worrying to see Manchester United fall at another hurdle. How many more until Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wins a trophy? That final produced more questions than answers. In this episode, I talk about how only United two players can be proud of their performance in Gdansk and what is next for the manager. We've got a busy summer coming up and hopefully United are busy because Solskjaer needs to be backed. The squad isn't strong enough to compete and the board needs to address that to give Solskjaer any hope. Hopefully you enjoy the podcast and come back for more Strettycast throughout the summer. | Episode 113 - UEL Final: Possible gateway for more success and another departing keeper | 25 May 2021 | 00:21:04
The squad is in Gdnask for the Europa League final and I'm excited about our chances despite knowing Harry Maguire is a massive doubt for the game. These are occasions Edinson Cavani and Bruno Fernandes live for -- and they know they'll crave the next final from the second this one ends. It could be a gateway for more success, although that wasn't the case in 2017 and we get on to that in this week's episode. Also on the agenda is news from the bunker about who starts in goal on Wednesday night. Sources have told Stretty News what the general feeling is within the club ahead of the final, and how I think it will impact one player's future. Again, a massive thank you for listening. | Episode 112 - Glazers feeling the pressure | 17 May 2021 | 00:23:02
The theatre of crime. That is what Old Trafford has become under the Glazer family’s ownership. Gone are the days it can be known as the Theatre of Dreams unless you can convince me Marcus Rashford always wanted to beat Villarreal in a Europa League final. Jokes aside, quite a serious podcast for you this week. I haven’t pressed record in over two weeks due to being in hospital (again), so I returned this morning on my own to discuss the latest protests and how I believe the Glazers are feeling the pressure. I take 20 minutes out to discuss some of the events over the past month and how Gary Neville has written to the Government asking for an independent football regulator to be introduced to the game. This week, I discuss: - Do the Glazers really care about protests at Old Trafford? - It’s more than the ESL and some trophies - Fans from afar – knowing your place - Independent football regulator and more! | Episode 111 - Ed Woodward does runner after ESL collapse | 22 Apr 2021 | 00:57:05
Wow. It's been a whirlwind. Dale and Mike chat about the ongoing events this week on the Strettycast. The battle is ongoing but first we need to get through the wreckage. Ed Woodward has resigned in timely fashion and we can't help but think it has a lot to do with the European Super League failure. Some might say he went out on his sword. United fans have long known that these parasites were no good for the game, but now it sounds like English football has woken. We look to the models in Germany in hope - but how does a 50+1 ruling come into play? Is it possible or have we gone too far? Thanks for listening and we'll be back on Monday with another episode.
