Episode 46: Doing Our Best with JW Rayhons23 Jan 202000:33:49

“When you look for the good in someone; you’ll find it.”

Consistently high-performing teams achieve significantly more than what is imaginably possible.

As a leader, you may experience phases when your team is highly performing, firing on all cylinders, and at their best. During those time periods, you want to capitalize on that momentum and elevate your team to new levels of success. While leading teams, you may also find yourself in phases when your team is underperforming and needs a turn-around because there are significant milestones your organization is striving for.. This is how JW Rayhons, our guest today, starts out our conversation. He makes it clear that while he mostly works with teams, even a one-person team can fall into these two categories. It’s all in how you deal with the current situation that gets you to the next step on the journey.

There's going to be some unexpected things that are going to come up throughout the year on any given day. And so it really is how do I and anyone else go about staying focused on the things that they really want to accomplish? Really stay focused on the things that mean the most to them that are most important to them?

How should we focus our time and energy? First, we need to get very clear on what it is we want to accomplish and how we are going to accomplish that. Listen in as we talk more about the steps to happiness and success in your business.

Episode 45: Consistency is the Name of the Game with Bernadette Geyer16 Jan 202000:40:25

Getting an audience is hard. Sustaining an audience is hard. It demands a consistency of thought, of purpose, and of action over a long period of time. - Bruce Springsteen

Consistency in the workplace creates accountability, enhances your reputation, and gives you an opportunity to measure results and make sure things are moving in a positive direction. But according to Bernadette Geyer, today’s guest, consistency comes down to things like your brand, the words you use in your marketing and even your actions where your customers see you acting and “being”. In other words, being consistent allows you to measure your results and your ROI. It gives you a form of accountability. Didn’t do something today that you were expected to do? Customers not happy? You weren’t consistent in your actions. And then, of course that helps in the creation of a business’ reputation, and on and on. Without consistent action and consistent structure within the very core of your company, you cannot be truly successful.

When it comes to hiring someone to take on the responsibilities of your written documentation such as a copywriter like Bernadette, it is even more important to have a form of consistency. The person you hire must understand and be able to sound like, and create wording that comes across in the voice of the person who they are working for. To make this clearer, let’s sit down, bring along a beverage of choice, and listen in as Bernadette and Nancy talk about being able to be consistent.

Episode 43: Triumphing Over Business and Disability with Miro Wcislo19 Dec 201900:40:49
“If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.” —Martin Luther King Jr.

Living life with depression and anxiety can be a horrible nightmare. There are many different levels of both. Some are easily pushed aside while others are totally debilitating. Added to that if you’re trying to run a successful business, it can feel like you are caught in a huge mud bog and you just can’t get your feet free. The harder you try, the more tired you get. You lose your energy, your joy, and you just want to give up and sink down into the pit. Today’s guest, Miro Wcislo tells us how he feels when he says “every single day is a battle every second is a battle.”

Throughout this talk, he tells us about his supportive parents, his days before the disability started, and how he has struggled and succeeded in creating a very successful business even though he has had to deal with a continuing situation.

Sit back, grab a cup of your favorite beverage, and listen in (btw – you’ll want to take notes today), while we chat with Miro.

Episode 41: The Magic of Writing a Book with Suzanne Doyle-Ingram05 Dec 201900:40:18

There are many reasons to write a book but, according to Brian Tracy, “the biggest reason was to spread my message about subjects that I felt very passionate about.”

Most people start out to write the American novel, but it’s not all that easy. Thousands of books are submitted for publication each year, and only a few are chosen. You can find a publisher, you can self-publish, or you can find someone that leads you through the process and gets your book out there for others to read.

However, as the quote above states, the best reason to publish a book is to let people know your message and what your knowledge and experience are all about. And, believe it or not, you will probably NOT make a lot of money from this endeavor. Even if you get it on the shelves of Barnes and Noble or Amazon, very little in royalties will come to you. Where you do make the money is through showing people what your business is, what you teach, how you make a living, etc. Listen in as today’s guest Suzanne Doyle-Ingram shares with us her years of experience in helping others to do their best and to get those books hiding inside us out into the public.

Episode 40: Getting the Right People to Support You with Deidre Kindred27 Nov 201900:43:13

"Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much." --Helen Keller

No matter what industry you are in, there comes a time when a solopreneur needs to have some help. There are things they can’t do, don’t know how to do, or just don’t want to do. Business is growing and it is too much for one person to handle. This may be the beginning of a growth in the company, or a one-time thing where the owner needs just a bit of help. Regardless of which, it is always nice to have the ability to reach out and find someone to build your team around.

Deidre Kindred has been involved in the medical profession for many years, and she believes wholeheartedly in the statement above. Whether that is help for someone with health issues and can’t leave the house by themselves, or whether it’s the running of the back end of the business, Deidre shares with us experiences she has had with both her own business and working as an employee.

Communication, goals and organization are all very important aspects of finding the right members for the “Team” and you can find out more by listening in as Nancy chats with Deidre here.

Episode 37: The Passive Income Queen, Lisa Johnson31 Oct 201900:57:22

If you don't find a way to make money while you sleep, you will work until you die.- Warren Buffett

Lisa Johnson, today’s guest, starts our conversation by saying “I WANTED TO BE MORE, EXPERIENCE MORE, EARN MORE.” But she didn’t know how to do it. And that’s when her business was born. Her first company, a wedding planning business, led her to talk with others, find mentors, help to analyze what was going right and not so right in both her own and in colleagues’ businesses. That led to a pivot into coaching and before long she was making 6 figures regularly and her courses were selling out so quickly she couldn’t keep up.

In order for her to continue to grow she either had to clone herself or figure out ways to continue to earn money without more time or energy. And that’s when it hit her. I need to make passive income. Not an investment program with some financial institution, but by creating programs that allowed her to do the work once, and sell it repeatedly and automatically. Things like evergreen courses (you create the course, you put it into a program such as Teachable or Kajabi, and then sit back and watch the money roll in “in your sleep”. Periodically, you should upgrade it, change it up a bit and add more to it, but it’s really very simple.

Our conversation today has Lisa sharing her thoughts and ideas on what she has done and how she has made her business and her life so successful while finding the time to spend traveling the world with her children and family. Take a listen in and learn how to do this for yourself.

That model means take 15 minutes to talk with clients, take 15 to create a client funnel, and take 15 minutes to set up your facebook posts, your marketing. Episode 33: Introverts and Business with Janice Chaka03 Oct 201900:56:30

“Introverts live in two worlds: We visit the world of people, but solitude and the inner world will always be our home.” ― Jenn Granneman, The Secret Lives of Introverts: Inside Our Hidden World

What is an introvert and how do they handle being in business? According to the American Management Association

Extroverts: Talk first; think later Introverts: Think first; talk later

Extroverts: Seek out other people Introverts: Prefer going solo

Extroverts: Tend to be “babbling brooks;” people often tune them out Introverts: Don’t speak up too often; people tend to tune in when they do

Extroverts: Draw energy from other people Introverts: Are energized by time spent alone

How does that figure in business? As a business owner, you need to be out there, telling your story, letting people know about what you do and why they need it. So, what does an introvert do? You can pick the parts of your story that you want the world to know. Find a persona that can become YOU when you are out and about. Let people see what you want them to see. This isn’t a lie, it’s only a chosen part of the whole.

Do you think you’re an introvert? Is this personality type of interest to you? Janice Chaka, today’s guest considers herself an introvert, AND a successful business owner. Want to know more? Listen here!

Episode 32: Keep It Simple with Craig Severinsen26 Sep 201900:49:08

Keep it simple and focus on what matters. Don't let yourself be overwhelmed.

- Confucius

When we start a business we want to tell everyone what we do and let them know that they need to buy our product or service. It is exciting and we bounce around shouting it from the rooftop. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve been hit up from someone I’ve never heard of telling me that I REALLY need to buy what they are selling. They don’t know me, they don’t know what I buy or if anything they are saying will be of interest to me.

You need to make sure that what you are doing in your marketing, is converting to sales, according to today’s guest, Craig Severinsen. He tells us that by being authentic, by sharing with people who you are, what you care about and building relationships, that’s what’s going to grow your business.

It is more important to be true and find clients through authenticity rather than letting the world know you exist. Find the offer that makes sense to a few people and you’ll sell your product/service to more and that saves time, money and effort. Listen in and learn how keeping it simple builds a bigger return.

Episode 31: Know Your Client, Know Yourself with Barbra Portzline13 Sep 201900:52:20

“The only strategy that is guaranteed to fail is not taking risks.”

— Mark Zuckerberg, founder, Facebook

People are flocking to business ownership these days. It is THE thing to do when someone is dissatisfied, disgruntled and just wanting something to call their own. They may have done their homework, started off with a bang and then – nothing. The phone doesn’t ring, the website has no hits, there is silence. What do they do then? Give up? What was the true meaning of starting their business in the first place? Did it have meaning to those they wanted to sell to or was it something just for themselves. Something THEY wanted to do?

Mindset is one of several issues that is top of the list for people who are starting (and running) small businesses. If the mindset isn’t right, then the business won’t be either. In today’s conversation with Dr. Barbra Portzline, we talk about mindset and other pitfalls and challenges (as well as success and growth) in the business world. So, sit back, get out your pen and paper (or tablet), take notes and increase your opportunity for business success for yourself!

Episode 29: Coaching is the Click with Jason Rosado29 Aug 201900:53:31

"The successful networkers I know, the ones receiving tons of referrals and feeling truly happy about themselves, continually put the other person's needs ahead of their own." -- Bob Burg

Networking is an important part of running a business, but it is not a well understood method of growing relationships. It’s not just about getting coffee and having chats. It’s about bringing in money and building long-term connections between people.

Often, people go to networking events to hang out with friends, eat free food (and drinks) and get out of work early or just needing a break. Those are not really great reasons to get out there. But when you put a system in place like Jason Rosado and I talk about in this week’s show, then you can know full well that you will walk away with the knowledge that you have made someone else’s day valuable and that in the long run it will come back to you.

We all know that it’s important to be healthy in our lives and in our businesses. As Reba says above, we can have all the money we could ever wish for, our business can be a huge success, but if we are not healthy we can’t enjoy it or anything about our lives. Episode 25: Leadership vs. Being the Boss with Mads Singers01 Aug 201900:55:17

“Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others.” – Jack Welch

A title that we often aim to achieve is that of boss. We want that corner office and we want to control things around us. But, unfortunately, that does not make us a leader. A leader being that which helps those that we work with, the best that they can be. A quote that most people have heard (I’m guessing here) is that Leaders lead, bosses push.

Episode 23: You are Your Brand with Nela Dunato18 Jul 201900:54:31

We hear about business and brands all the time but do we really understand what that means? Is it our logo, our website, our Facebook page? Yes, in brief terms. But it is so much more than that. Living_with_an_Invisible_Disability_My_Journey_with_Brain_Injury_according_to_Marcia_Moran9nynp.mp330 Oct 202300:43:07

I had a stroke nine years ago, which divided their life into pre and post-stroke. They used to work in marketing but can no longer do so due to the stroke. They now prioritize their family, friends, and community, considering everything else as a bonus. They find it strange how their perspective on life changed. Aphasia is a condition where a person is unable to communicate effectively through speaking, writing, reading, or understanding. This can be a scary and frustrating experience.  Marcia's book, "Stroke Forward, How to Become Your Own Healthcare Advocate One Step at a Time," can be found on Amazon. She emphasizes the importance of looking ahead and not dwelling on the past.  Listeners can visit her website http://strokeforward.com, where they can book appointments or email their questions.

Episode 21: From Story to Sale with Tom Jackobs04 Jul 201900:38:07

“Whatever you are trying to sell, storytelling is the most powerful thing you can do. Most of the best business ideas come from personal experiences.” (from Jack Preston’s blog post about Virgin Media Pioneers’ Pitch to Rich competition) In today’s episode, Tom Jackobs, of Impact Pilot, tells us a story about how he became a better business person and in the process learned what he calls the secret to great sales: storytelling. When you tell a story you are able to put your listeners in your shoes (and you theirs) so that a picture can be drawn and the potential buyer can actually see why he or she needs what you have to offer.

Tom is giving us a wonderful gift today on top of that great conversation. If you go to: www.TomJackobs.com/storybook there is a free worksheet on how to create your authentic hero story – the first stage in the sales process.

Episode 19: Don't Sell -- Help with Michael Furey20 Jun 201900:39:41

"Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude." -Zig Ziglar

You can’t be in business without being in sales. But that dreaded (for most of us) word doesn’t have to mean the old fashioned, push your program into someone’s hands whether they want it or not. Today, its more about creating relationships that focus on helping others. No longer does a person line up to find the perfect salesman; instead thanks to the Internet, the buyer is large and in charge. They know everything before they even start to look for the right item to buy. So, that makes the sale become an entirely different scenario.

According to Michael Furey, Founder of 24 Hour Sales Coach, “you don’t need to know sales, you just need to know people.” And that seems to be his philosophy overall. By understanding people, what they want, and how you can help them, with care, consideration and confidence, you will move ahead.

Listen in as he shares his thoughts.

“There is no greater gift you can give or receive than to honor your calling. It’s why you were born. And how you become most truly alive.” ―Oprah Winfrey

If we’re in business we have a purpose, a goal, a meaning to our lives and our work. But there are times when we push those feelings aside for money, or to make ourselves feel important -- something other than what we created our business for in the first place.

It is when we stick with our intentions and follow our purpose that we have the best lives and the best business we can have.

Our talk today with Trish Leto is all about living our life with purpose and how she does that through her 5 minute LIVES on Facebook. Listen in as she shares her message with us.

Episode 17: Do Your Best with Randi Lincoln06 Jun 201900:53:45

“Throw out the words, if I can, I hope, and maybe, and replace them with I can, I will, I must.” Mary Kay Ash

We don’t always start out with a plan, but without a plan we never get anywhere. It takes hard (emotional and mental) work to get to a successful place with your business, whatever type of business that may be. And when you look at it as a gift and calling from God, then watch yourself soar.

These are words paraphrased from my conversation with Randi Lincoln, a Senior Sales Director with Mary Kay. And she knows what she’s talking about. You can see her driving around in one of the 23 cars she has earned, and going to the bank to deposit her checks (she has earned between 85,000 and 190,000 in commissions in one year’s time. All from being a Mary Kay business owner.

Episode 3: Talking about Business Growth with Andy Medlam27 Feb 201900:25:54

Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle. Napoleon Hill

Today’s podcast is a bit off the beaten track – I’m away for a couple of weeks thanks to the skills of my foot surgeon who has chained me to my bed with no walking for a couple of weeks. Therefore, I reached out to a great friend of mine, Andy Medlam, who is a brilliant business coach and advisor to step in and share his thoughts on business growth.

I love his description of himself – he is very down to earth and kind. Here is what his website says about himself: I’m just a regular a guy as you would ever meet, just with a huge passion to make the best possible life for me and those around me. I have a beautiful partner, Michelle, and we live together in Doncaster. We are fortunate enough to have discovered this opportunity and I can honestly say that it’s the best decision I’ve ever made! To be honest one of the best things about this business is I have made some amazing friends and really enjoy working with people of all walks of life.

No ego there but I can testify that he has a heart of gold and the knowledge to go along with it. Words of wisdom are part and parcel of what he has to say. So, thank you Andy for stepping in while I’m out. I truly appreciate it. Everyone take a listen!!!!!

What It’s Like Living with an Invisible Disability: A Candid Conversation29 Sep 202300:36:42

Living with an invisible disability is a highly individualized experience, shaped by the nature and severity of the specific condition. These disabilities encompass a wide range of health issues, from chronic pain and mental health disorders to autoimmune diseases and neurological conditions. What sets them apart is their hidden nature, making it challenging for others to grasp the daily struggles and limitations faced by those affected. Often, individuals with invisible disabilities cope with fluctuating symptoms, which can disrupt their routines and require flexible accommodations. They frequently encounter skepticism, misunderstanding, and even stigma from society, adding emotional strain to their already complex journey. Self-advocacy becomes a crucial skill, as they navigate the need for accommodations, educate others about their condition, and strive to strike a balance between managing their health and pursuing their goals.

Invisible disabilities can take a toll on a person's mental and emotional well-being, contributing to feelings of isolation and frustration. Despite these challenges, many individuals with invisible disabilities demonstrate remarkable resilience and determination, finding ways to adapt, seek treatment, and build supportive networks. The support and understanding of friends, family, employers, and healthcare providers play a vital role in helping them live fulfilling lives. Ultimately, recognizing and acknowledging the unique struggles and triumphs of those with invisible disabilities is essential to fostering empathy, inclusion, and a more supportive society. If you'd like more information or to get involved in helping advocate for these women, head on over to https://invisiblewarriors.org.

Susan Salenger and How Women Sabotage Their Health07 Sep 202300:40:50

It can take 5-7 years to get a correct diagnosis for a chronic illness. Many people with chronic illnesses are misdiagnosed with psychological conditions and are prescribed antidepressant medications.

A large scale awareness is required about chronic illnesses and their handling. Many are grappling with understanding their illness and are not sure how to handle their diagnosis and treatment plans. Further Advocacy is needed for doctors to better understand and diagnose such issues.

Discussion on how health professionals' lack of awareness towards invisible disabilities impacts patients' mental health.

Benjamin speaks on the need for training in emotional well-being for doctors and explores the idea that overtraining in clinical aspects causes neglect of the human elements of healthcare.

The speaker describes how individuals can start taking control of their inner experience by understanding and managing their thoughts, allowing themselves to experience emotions without being consumed by them, and attuning themselves to their body's responding sensations.

S3 EP7: How Women Manage and Mismanage Their Health20 Mar 202300:39:55

As a woman, do you feel like you're in charge of your healthcare?

As a woman, do you feel like you're informed about your own health?

Are you confidently managing or are you unknowingly mismanaging your health?

In this episode, Host Nancy Becher and guest Susan Salenger answers these questions. Susan is the Author of SIDELINED: How Women Manage & Mismanage Their Health, and examines the many ways in which women manage and sometimes mismanage their healthcare. Researcher and Author, Susan Salenger, describes how women, the medical gatekeepers for their families, are extremely conscientious about taking care of themselves. They choose their doctors carefully, visit them more frequently than men, and stay on top of all health information. Yet, women tend to inadvertently undermine their own health. They’re so focused on taking care of their families that they sometimes fail to stop and ask doctors the necessary questions when it comes to their own healthcare. As a result, they may end up with inaccurate treatments and unnecessary procedures.
