n Episode 509 of the Sexology Podcast, Dr. Nazanin Moali is joined by physician and longevity expert Dr. Jennifer Timmons to explain why erectile function can offer important clues about a man’s overall health.

The conversation also explores erectile dysfunction treatments, sexual enhancement supplements, GLP-1 medications, and popular approaches to men’s sexual optimization. You will learn what is supported by evidence, what appears promising, and what may be overhyped or potentially unsafe.

EP508 - What Women Really Want in Bed: The Sex Education Men Never Got15 Sep 202600:34:46

What do women actually want in bed, and why do so many couples misunderstand each other’s sexual needs?

In Episode 508 of the Sexology Podcast, Dr. Nazanin Moali is joined by gynecologist and sexual medicine specialist Dr. Maria Sophocles to explore the “bedroom gap,” the disconnect between what partners believe women want sexually and what women may actually experience.

Many couples can discuss money, parenting, work, and family but struggle to have an honest conversation about sex. Dr. Sophocles explains why these conversations feel so difficult and how silence, embarrassment, and cultural expectations can create unsatisfying sexual patterns in long-term relationships.

Together, they challenge common myths about penetration, orgasm, penis size, and what “good sex” is supposed to look like. They also examine how pornography and popular culture can shape unrealistic sexual expectations and leave couples focused on performance instead of mutual pleasure.

The conversation explores how menopause, hormonal changes, painful sex, and shifts in desire can affect intimacy. You will also learn how couples can communicate more openly, introduce novelty, redefine satisfying sex, and create sexual experiences centered on pleasure for both partners.

In this episode, you will learn:

• What the bedroom gap is and why it develops

• What women may actually want from sex and intimacy

• Why couples struggle to communicate about sexual needs

• How to discuss sex without blame, shame, or defensiveness

• Why penetration should not be treated as the main event

Welcome to Episode 502 of the Sexology Podcast! Today I am excited to be joined by Jane Garnett, LMFT who speaks to me about how our attraction patterns develop and whether we change who we are drawn to.

In this episode, Jane and I discuss why we can have so much attraction to people who are emotionally unavailable or unable to give us the secure relationship we want. With nearly 20 years in private practice, her work often centers on high-functioning individuals whose lives look successful on the outside but are shaped by patterns of emotional disconnection, anxiety, or underlying dissatisfaction.  As a psychotherapist, Jane helps people rewrite the beliefs that subconsciously shape their lives, recognize the scripts they inherited, listen to the body’s signals, and make choices that create actual safety and connection— helping them shift not just their circumstances, but their relationship to themselves and their lives.

I also reflect on the deeper lessons these 500 conversations have taught me about becoming a more attentive and connected partner. EP489 - Frustration and Disappointment: How to Revive a Sexless Marriage with Elana Auerbach05 May 202600:41:27

Welcome to Episode 489 of the Sexology Podcast! Today I am excited to be joined by Elana Auerbach, who speaks to me about navigating sexless marriages and reviving physical intimacy.

It is incredibly common for long-term relationships to experience a decline in physical intimacy over time. Often, couples fall into a routine where life gets busy, and cultivating a sexual spark drops to the bottom of the priority list. During our conversation, we explore why this happens and how unspoken frustrations and rejections can build up over time like invisible panes of glass between partners.

Elana Auerbach is a lover, mother, mentor, activator, and priestess. She spent her childhood and young adulthood on what she calls 'the conveyor belt of life,' being the good girl and doing what others expected of her. This looked like graduating Phi Beta Kappa from UCLA, working on Wall Street for a Japanese investment bank, and marrying someone with whom she felt no chemistry.

It all fell apart in 2001 when Elana realized she’d been living a lie and found the courage to leave her marriage. She entered a world of sensuality and sex in a San Francisco pleasure-centered community. This is where she met Bill, who would become her loverman for life.

In this episode, you will hear:

  • Defining Sexless Relationships
  • The Myth of Spontaneous Desire
  • Understanding Responsive Desire
  • Navigating Discrepancies in Libido
  • The Impact of Unspoken Rejection
  • Introducing the Sure Thing Practice
  • Exploring Sensuality Without Pressure
  • Honoring Boundaries and Communicating Nos
  • Overcoming the Burden of Sexual Shame
  • Taking Accountability for Intimacy Goals

Elana's guided journey to deepen with your wild, sensual self and connect with your passion and desire!

EP487 - When Desire Fades: Exploring the Hidden Reasons21 Apr 202600:32:03

Welcome to episode 487 of the Sexology Podcast! Today, I am excited to be joined by Courtney Fae Long, who speaks to me about understanding and resolving lost desire in long-term relationships.

In this episode, we talk about a common problem that many couples in long-term relationships have: the natural change and sometimes loss of sexual desire. When a partner's interest seems to fade, it's easy for our minds to jump to the worst possible conclusions. But in reality, it's often because of mismatched expectations, not a lack of attraction. Courtney and I talk about the myth of rushing through physical intimacy and why treating sex like a race often makes people feel disconnected.

Courtney Fae Long, MSW, LC, CHt, is the creator of Sex Life Makeover and TEDx speaker whose work has been featured in NBC, Forbes, MSN, and Psychology Today. She specializes in highly sexual women who feel frustrated and unfulfilled. She holds a Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) and certificates in Sexuality Education and Sex Therapy from the University of Michigan and has been teaching for 25+ years. Welcome to Episode 486 of the Sexology Podcast! Today I am excited to be joined by Juliane Maxwald who speaks to me about understanding our sexual symptoms as deeper unconscious communications.

In this episode, we talk about how sexual problems are rarely just about sex. In this day and age, people are always looking for a quick fix or a medical solution to their personal problems. Julianne beautifully explains that symptoms like low desire or trouble getting an erection are often our bodies telling us about deeper emotional needs, unresolved trauma, or hidden worries.

Juliane Maxwald, MA, LP, CST, is a licensed psychoanalyst, couples therapist and AASECT-certified sex therapist based in New York City. She has over fifteen years of experience working with individuals and couples across a wide range of concerns, including sexuality and intimacy, trauma, addiction and compulsive behaviors, mood and anxiety disorders, and relational and family-of-origin dynamics.

Her work is grounded in contemporary psychoanalysis and informed by trauma theory, somatic awareness, and relational, sex-positive frameworks. Juliane specializes in helping people move beyond symptom-focused treatment—whether the symptom shows up as sexual difficulty, burnout, overwork, emotional numbing, or relational conflict—and toward a deeper understanding of the unconscious patterns shaping their lives.

EP465 - Childhood Wounds: Why Your Bedroom Patterns Are a Mirror18 Nov 202500:28:19

Welcome to Episode 465 of the Sexology Podcast! Today I’m excited to be joined by Jessica Baum, who speaks to me about how attachment styles shape our sexual connection and intimacy within long-term relationships.

In this episode, we explore how attachment theory helps us understand why so many couples struggle with maintaining desire over time. We discuss how patterns rooted in early childhood, such as anxious, avoidant, and disorganized attachment, influence not only our emotional connection but also our erotic lives. Jessica explains how couples often repeat familiar relational scripts, sometimes mistaking intensity or chaos for passion, and how real intimacy requires safety, awareness, and conscious effort.

Jessica Baum is a licensed psychotherapist whose journey began with a lifelong curiosity about the “Whys” of life, why we feel, connect, and experience the world the way we do. This passion led her to specialize in trauma, attachment theory, and interpersonal neurobiology.
