84: Secrets to Raising Plant-Based Kids21 May 202500:15:17

Pretty much the first question I get when I tell people we eat plant-based is "Do your kids eat vegan?" and the answer is, "yes, for the most part they do!"

Here I share the simple yet powerful things I do to help my kids eat mostly plants.

The Plant Based Super Mom Fast Track is open for registration! This will not be offered again until later this year so grab your seat HERE before May 27!

81: What's the Deal With Seed Oils and Fats 10110 Apr 202500:13:36

Lately it seems like everyone is talking about seed oils and how terrible they are. Listen in as I share my take on it all after digging into the relevant research.

Further, fat can be a confusing topic - what's good, what's bad and what type of fat is best? This short episode will tell you everything you really need to know to take the next step to optimize your health.

My husband and I loved how the Holistic Holiday at Sea cruise taught us so much and left us feeling inspired to do better! But finding the the time and resources to make this happen was no walk in the park and simply not a reality for many of us in the thick of life!

A great alternative is the Food Revolution Summit coming up the last week of April. Many nutrition experts from different fields will share their research and answer common questions. The first summit I watched 9 years ago was so inspiring and motivating for me to make lasting and powerful changes. You can catch all the talks for free for a limited time, or you can purchase them to watch later at your convenience. Owning the summit can be a great way to plan your own Holistic Holiday wherever you choose, and set aside the time to immerse yourself in this life-changing information.

I loved doing this with a parenting course I was unable to attend in person. For a fraction of the time and money, my husband and I were able to soak up the information we needed and begin using it much sooner than had we waited until we could do the in person option.

72. Hospital to Healthy: My Hacks for Busting a Nasty Bug26 Oct 202300:16:04

We’ve been very fortunate to make it this long without needing an overnight hospital stay for any of our kids . . . until this month. Baby had some super nasty croupy breathing and we were grateful to get him the care he needed.

It took some firm conversations to follow my momma instinct to leave the hospital when we did and although not in need of breathing treatments, baby was still plenty sick and could have easily taken a turn for the worse.

I did everything I could to support his recovery at home and thankfully he was down to just some lingering congestion within a couple of days.

Please note I am NOT a medical professional, just a mom who hates having sick kids! I’ve been fascinated with finding everything I can do to mitigate sickness and here are some of my favorites!

71. 5 Foods Proven to Promote Weight Loss29 Sep 202300:09:46

We have spent far too long as a society associating weight loss with deprivation and starvation!

The thing I love about plant-based eating is that it allows a shift in focus from the quantity of what you eat to the quality.

And by and large, focusing on the right foods often fuels weight loss just by working in concert with the body's systems to help it work more efficiently.

This weeks podcast is packed with a handful of simple foods backed by research that aid weight-loss. The best part?

The side effects are decreased risk of cancer, type 2 diabetes and improved athletic performance!

This episode is short but packed with great tips!

60. Managing Severe Coronary Heart Disease with Doug Richards19 May 202200:37:48

Most of us have grown up with the idea that milk does a body good and that animal protein is the best source of protein for our bodies and our brains.

But a large body of research that doesn't get the media attention it deserves shows us that the opposite is true. That the saturated fat in animal foods is the primary driver of heart disease, and plant foods work to clear out the arteries and reverse it.

Doug Richards is one of many who have discovered and experienced this boost to his health and I excited to share his experiences with you today.

57. Tackling Major Depressive Disorder with Danae Dayley31 Mar 202200:39:52

More and more evidence is emerging on the link between our food choices and our mental health. While mental health is a complex multifaceted issue, many people are finding that the foundation of good nutrition is far more effective than medication and other approaches they have tried.

Having struggled with major depressive episodes for more than a decade Danae Dayley and her family decided to try 10 days on a whole food plant-based diet.

By day five she still loved meat, but knew she wasn't going back. She's doing great without antidepressants and enjoying a long list of other benefits as well.

As a reminder, this does not constitute medical advice and please consult with a medical provider before discontinuing any prescriptions.

53. Healing with Herbs with Herbalist Jordan Gundersen03 Feb 202200:33:18

Most grocery store remedies provide temporary symptom relief but rarely do much to get at the root of the issue. I love discovering a variety of ways to get at the root of the problem, and herbal remedies are a great way to do that. When we start turning to other options, it can feel overwhelming to know who and what to trust, what's safe, effective and worth your time and money.

I invited herbalist Jordan Gundersen to come on the podcast and teach us about where we can begin to use herbs as part of our healing journey both safely and effectively. Jordan compares using herbs for healing as similar to replacing whole plant foods for processed ones--when we use the herb we are getting the whole plant and all of its phytochemicals to work in concert rather than extracting a few chemicals as is often the case with both processed foods and pharmaceuticals.

As always this is intended for informational purposes and is not intended to replace medical advice. As you'll hear, some herbs can react negatively with prescription drugs and so you would definitely want to work with a qualified medical professional to make adjustments in that area. But I hope this gives you a good overview and understanding of how we can learn about and start to experience the benefits of herbs.

35. Medication-Free Diabetes with Kiana Benson12 Aug 202100:37:02

It was a fun day last year when my second grader came home from school to tell me about what had happened during lunch that day.

He'd been eating red lentil nuggets (like chicken nuggets only made with lentils) for lunch that day and his teacher asked about them.

He told her we eat mostly plants and she shared she was working on eating plant-based too. He was so excited to have a fellow plant-eater and that she wanted to know more about what he was doing.

Kiana Benson was 25 when she was diagnosed with diabetes. Finding that the medication she was given to manage it made her very sick, she decided to see what she could do with diet and lifestyle.

After landing on whole food, plant-based eating she's been able to cut her A1C in half and is feeling great.
