Captain Bob DeCosta - "Albacore Charters"
19 Jul 2024
02:24:50
Thank you for tuning into the SeaBros Fishing Podcast!
On this episode we had the privilege of sitting down for a great conversation with Captain Bob DeCosta of Albacore Charters, Nantucket. We have known Bob through our network of fellow captains for quite some time, but have never had the opportunity to sit down and talk off of the water until this podcast.
Bob is a second generation charter boat captain with over 50 years of experience fishing the waters around Nantucket and Cape Cod. Bob runs Albacore charters along side his son Ray, who when not running charters with his dad, is a fire fighter on Nantucket.
Bob is a wealth of knowledge and is a master at putting his clients on fish. He is an incredibly well rounded fisherman, and is one of the most consistent producers in the northeast. In this conversation, Bob shares the story of how he started fishing. He talks about growing up on Nantucket, how fisheries have changed, and the tactics that he uses in his local waters. As always, a bunch of fish stories, tuna theories, and laughs are shared in this one.
We hope you enjoy this as much as we did!

Captain Jesse Martello and Chris Gergley - "Think Big"
05 Jun 2024
02:07:32
Thank you for tuning into the SeaBros Fishing Podcast!
On this episode of the podcast it was our pleasure to host long time friend and fellow fisherman, Captain Jesse Martello. Joining him, another returning guest and owner of L.T Marine Products, Captain Chris Gergley.
We have known Jesse since we started our charter fishing business over 20 years ago. He is an incredible person, amazing fishermen, and is one of the most mechanically gifted humans on the planet. If it is broken, Jesse can fix it. He has decades of experience in the automotive industry, and has translated those skills to his passion of boats and fishing. Jesse runs a charter business of his own "Think Big Sportfishing" out of Mystic, CT.
Jesse and Chris actually met through us, and became close friends quickly; being that they are from the same area. Since then, Jesse collaborates with Chris on designing and testing products for L.T, and Chris works with Jesse on the charter boat.
In this conversation we discuss the importance of preparation, time on the water, and the amount of dedication it takes to become a consistent charter fisherman. We talk about similar methods we share when tuna fishing on Stellwagen Bank, and we also talk canyon fishing tactics. We also spend a bit of time discussing manufacturing products for one of the most abusive environments and against some of the world's hardest fish to catch.
We hope you enjoy this as much as we did!

Hunting, Fishing, & Chartering Every Day: Part 2
16 Jan 2024
03:03:57
Thank you for tuning in to the SeaBros Fishing Podcast! On this episode we sit down with one of our deckhands, Ben Makaroff, and review our 2023 charter fishing season. This conversation was over three hours long, so we split it into a two part podcast.
Our 2023 season was action packed. We ran over 250 charters on our boats, experienced many amazing days of fishing, and had some incredible guests aboard.
The main focus of this conversation was to review our 2023 logbook and discuss what we experienced in our local waters around Massachusetts. We talk about everything from light tackle shad fishing in the spring, striped bass fishing through early summer, and share what we saw during our tuna season. Per usual, we get side tracked telling stories, and even talk about our deer hunting season a bit.
Part 2 we focus on the December bluefin tuna bite on Stellwagen Bank and review our 2023 hunting seasons in Massachusetts.
We had a lot of fun on this one and we are officially in winter mode. We will be pushing out a ton of new content this off-season, so stay tuned. Let season 5 of the podcast begin!
Thank you to all of our listeners for the continued support. If you have any questions, topic ideas, or recommended guests for future conversations, please reach out to us on our social media platforms (Instagram, Patreon, and Facebook). Tom has been an avid fisherman, hunter, and outdoorsman his entire life. Our family has had the pleasure of knowing and fishing with Tom and the rest of the Depersias for several decades. In this conversation we catch up on life with Tom. We discuss charter fishing, fishing together as families, his winters in Florida and tell a bunch of fish stories. Tom tells tales from the early days of hand-lining giant tuna, the development of trolling squid bars, and talks about what we are seeing now in our fishery. Tom also shares his opinion on a few recent restrictions put on fish throughout our area.

02:21:03
Our guest on this episode of the podcast is Captain Steve Fernandez. Steve is a New York native who has spent countless hours on the ocean since childhood. He began his career in fishing aboard charter boats and various private sportfish programs. His first full-time job, after switching careers, was aboard the "Blue Runner " fishing with well known captain Capt. Mark Deblasio.
After working on the "Blue Runner " charter fishing and tournament fishing, Steve took a captains job aboard a 64' Viking "Five Seas ." The "Five Seas " crew spends their summers fishing the Northeast Canyons and local tournament circuit. In the winter months, the boat moves to Florida and the Bahamas.
Steve is incredibly passionate about all kinds of fishing. He shares a few epic fish stories, including one about having a potential tournament winning yellowfin get mauled by a giant hammerhead in the canyons...Steve also talks about his favorite trolling spreads and hand feeding tuna on the draggers. This conversation with Steve was a great time. He's incredibly professional and has a positive attitude. The audio is a little squirrely, but fortunately Steve's audio is still ok.

Captain Jeff Weber - "It's All Theory"
13 Mar 2023
02:06:38
Thank you for tuning into the SeaBros Fishing Podcast!
On this episode, we have a few beers and enjoy a great conversation with our good friend and fellow northeast fisherman, Captain Jeff Weber. We have grown up fishing with Jeff for the past 16 years, and have had the pleasure of having some incredible, funny, and tough trips together. Like his Dad, Jeff has grown up hunting and fishing. His passion for the outdoors is incredible. The amount of time that he has spent in a tree stand, sitting on an anchor ball, or at the end of a pulpit, is sickening to think about.
Jeff is generally a quiet guy. We were honestly shocked when he agreed to sit down and record a podcast with us. He is a captain that truly values the amount of time and experience it takes to become consistently successful on the ocean. Fishing is work for Jeff. He spends 200+ days a year fishing the waters surrounding Massachusetts. He commercially fishes for bluefin tuna, striped bass, lobster, mackerel, scallops, and ran charters aboard the Mass Bay Guides boats with us in the past. Jeff has fished for tuna from Stellwagen Bank to Georges Bank and beyond.
This conversation was awesome. Jeff's fiance and Bryan's wife join us for this one and provide some excellent input. It had been quite a while since we had all nerded out about fishing. Jeff talks about harpooning bluefin, we embellish a lot of old fishing stories, we give our opinion on our current fishery(s), and give our opinion on some potential impacts to our local waters. Jeff has decades or experience and time on the water. You will always learn something new and discuss some sort of tuna theory when you talk to Jeff.

Captain Seth Funt - "Pursue Your Passion"
03 Mar 2023
02:35:32
Thank you for tuning into the SeaBros Fishing Podcast!
On this episode of the podcast we sit down and have a great conversation with Captain Seth Funt. Seth is a Northeast native and grew up in a fishing family. He has decades of offshore experience and is a master of the art of daytime swordfishing and deep drop tactics.
Seth's fishing career has taken him from the Bahamas to Nova Scotia chasing tuna, billfish and other pelagic species. He is a brand ambassador for Shimano, RonZ, and is also owner/operator of Three Buoys Tackle (making custom deep drop gear). Seth also enjoys writing and educating fishermen. He has written articles for some of the most well known sportfishing publications, including Florida Sportfishing and The Big Game Journal. He and his wife's most recent endeavor has been offering an all-inclusive bed and breakfast in Bristol Rhode Island (www.gildedcrabbnb.com) where he provides guests with beautiful accommodations and a sea to table experience.
In 2020 Seth was a featured angler on the YouTube series "One-Boat Challenge," where he and several other anglers were placed into teams, dropped on a lake in Mexico, and competed against each other in unfamiliar territory. Seth and his teammate took home first place...
We had a lot of fun and learned a ton from this conversation with Seth. One thing is for sure, Seth is one of the most passionate fishermen that we have met.

We have three time returning guest Captain Damon Sacco of Castafari Sportfishing. on the podcast.
Damon is always a pleasure to talk to and is an incredible story teller. We share some suspenseful and hysterical fish stories in this one. We talk about Damon's upcoming trip to Belize and what he hopes to accomplish on light tackle, and we have a discussion on how we see tournaments progressing into future years.
We spend a bit of time talking about the upcoming 2023 Castafari Offshore Fishing Seminar (February 25 and 26), which is always an educational and exciting event to attend. Fish Stories and 2022 Season Recap: Part 2
26 Jan 2023
01:49:55
Thank you for tuning in! This episode of the podcast is Part 2 of our 2022 charter fishing season review.
Joining us is our newest crew-member, deckhand, and good friend Ben Makaroff. Ben grew up on the South Shore of Massachusetts and has been fishing since childhood. He began his journey freshwater fishing, quickly progressed to saltwater, and has now made charter fishing his career path and tuna fishing his addiction. Ben is the epitome of a well rounded fisherman, waterman, and woodsman. Prior to joining us, he had over 15 years of experience in carpentry and electrical work, which translated nicely into maintaining charter boats/anything... Ben has been a great asset to our charter fleet, and with his help we were able to stay up and running throughout a 250+ trip season last year.
The 2022 Mass Bay Guides charter fishing season was excellent and one of our busiest to date. We saw incredible fishing all throughout our local waters. Clients were passionate, funny, and a pleasure to have aboard the boats. Mother Nature also blessed us with good weather for most of the season, allowing us to be on the water consistently.
Our main focus in this two part podcast was to review our 2022 logbook and discuss what we experienced on our local waters around Massachusetts last season. Per usual, we get side tracked a bit telling stories and jokes.
We had a lot of fun on this one and we are officially in winter mode, and will be pushing out a ton of new content. It's hard to believe that we are already on Season 4 of the podcast.

Captain Deane Lambros - "From MFDs to CPUs"
30 Dec 2022
02:03:43
On this episode of the podcast we sit down and have a great conversation with returning guest, Captain Deane Lambros .
Deane's passion for fishing began at a very young age, as did his exposure and dedication to offshore fishing specifically. Deane joined the Canyon Runner Sportfishing Team in 2009 as a mate. He then earned his captains license in 2010, and worked his way up to being captain of the "Canyon Runner" 48' Viking in 2013, at age 24. He then spent 14 years full-time working aboard the Canyon Runner fleet. Deane is a passionate, hardworking, and skilled captain who sets an excellent example of what a good charter captain should be.
Deane still fishes often and works freelance aboard several boats during the summer and tournament season in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.
*In August 2022 Deane was a crew member aboard "The Right Place" in the Mid-Atlantic Tournament and won 2nd and 3rd Place Tuna ($793,014 in winnings)
In this conversation, we cover a lot of great topics. We are able to run Deane through our rapid fire questions of the day. He discusses why he decided to "retire" from Canyon Runner and move onto a new venture in the insurance industry and oyster farming. Deane also reflects on his career as a charter captain and mate. He tells some great stories about the scariest and funniest moments he's had offshore.
We always enjoy talking with Deane and we learn something new during every conversation. Hope you do too!
*This conversation was recorded in May 2022. Just before we began our own charter fishing season.

Our guest on this episode of the podcast is a true legend in the offshore fishing community. He has over 60 years of professional fishing experience and has accomplished more in his fishing career than most can dream about... The man has caught thousands of swordfish and tuna and has a GARAGE full of swordfish bills and artwork to prove it.
In this episode of the podcast, we sit down with Captain Archie Jost. Archie is an amazing person, and incredible fisherman. He is an expert in all methods of offshore fishing for pelagics including long lining, green stick fishing, deep drop fishing, and buoy fishing. In fact, Archie has been hired by NOAA various times to help train and educate fishermen across the United States. Most recently, Archie was contracted by NOAA to help them with their five year "Deep Water Horizon Fisheries Restoration Project" and trained U.S Gulf of Mexico commercial fisherman on buoy fishing, greenstick, and deep drop methods.
Archie has fished offshore of the entire East Coast and Gulf of Mexico from Nova Scotia to Florida aboard his own boats, private sportfish programs, and aboard large commercial vessels. He longline swordfished with Linda Greenlaw aboard the "SeaHawk" and was featured on the Discovery Channel's series "Swords".

Captain Ali Hussainy - "Local Knowledge"
18 Apr 2022
01:59:11
Our guest on this episode of the podcast is Capt. Ali Hussainy from Local Knowledge TV and BD Outdoors. Ali grew up living in San Diego, California and his first fishing experiences began with trout and other freshwater species as a kid. Fishing became a passion that only increased exponentially with his first exposure to saltwater fishing.
After spending years in the tech industry, Ali and his partner Jason Hayashi took the leap of faith to make their love of fishing a business itself. The proliferation of the Bloodydecks.com fishing forum and now BD Outdoors, online fishing magazine; has launched them into the forefront of web-based entertainment, information and marketing.
Since 2016, Ali and his good friend and partner, Captain Rush Maltz, have produced, hosted, and grown one of the most entertaining and cinematic fishing shows on television, Local Knowledge. The show explores the culture of fishing itself and follows real life characters that spend their lives dedicated to fishing and the outdoors. For the past seven seasons of filming, Ali has been fortunate enough to experience some of the most incredible fisheries that the world has to offer. He has pursued many species of saltwater fish from Guatemala, to Magdalena Bay in Mexico, to PEI Canada, to the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.
Season 7 of Local Knowledge airs on April 20th, and new content airs every Sunday until September 2022.
Locally in California, Ali has been dialed in on the EPIC bluefin tuna bite that has been occurring offshore of San Diego for the past several years. In this conversation we get a chance to compare notes on our respective tuna fisheries. We discuss tactics, fish behavior, and generally nerd out on tuna fishing. All accompanied by many laughs and excellent fish stories.

Matt Smalley - "Ground Balls and Big Fish Energy"
25 Mar 2022
02:29:17
Thank you for tuning into the SeaBros Fishing Podcast!
Our guest on this episode is our good friend and fellow fisherman, Matt Smalley. Like many of us, Matt was essentially born into fishing and has spent the majority of his life on the water. He has over 20 years of offshore fishing experience and has respectably logged over 100 trips to the Northeast Canyons.
Not only is he passionate fisherman, but Matt grew up as a serious athlete and competitor. He played hockey at a high level in high school and he attended Hobart College, where he played 4 years of Division 1 lacrosse. After graduating from Hobart in 2009, Matt went on to play lacrosse professionally for the Boston Cannons for 5 years as a defensive midfielder.
In 2010, Matt became the sales manager for Gibbs Lures, focusing his efforts on refurbishing the company's image in both the inshore and offshore fishing community. In 2013, Matt joined the Castafari team, fishing with Capt. Damon Sacco (@castafari), and has since become an integral part of that program's offshore accomplishments. In 2014, Matt partnered with his friend Mike Croteau (@mikecrow1), and became a partner and owner of Deep Ocean Apparel. Matt's focus at Deep is in sales management and social media. It is here where he can blend his passion for fishing and the ocean with a company that brands itself around the outdoor lifestyle.
Most recently, Matt has been spending most of his fishing time with his brother Dan (@deuceman11) aboard their family's 46' Wesmac "Tuf Guy." Over the past several seasons the Smalley's have been dialed in on the giant bluefin bite that has been taking place in the summer months off of Rhode Island. The Smalley's catch rate and success of the past few years, has earned them the respect as one of the top producing boats in their area.

Doctor Greg Skomal - "Skomal Drives the Boat Chief"
08 Mar 2022
01:44:36
Thank you for tuning into the SeaBros Fishing Podcast!
Our guest on this episode of the podcast is Doctor Gregory Skomal. Greg is an accomplished marine biologist, underwater explorer, photographer, aquarist, and author. He has been a fisheries biologist with Massachusetts Marine Fisheries since 1987 and currently heads up the Massachusetts Shark Research Program (MSRP). He holds a master’s degree from the University of Rhode Island and a PhD from Boston University.
Greg is a perfect example of someone having a dream and persisting to make it a reality. As a young boy, after the release of the movie Jaws in 1975, he aspired to become the well known fictitious marine biologist and shark scientist Matt Hooper...and that is exactly what happened. For more than 35 years Greg has been one of the most renowned marine biologists and shark scientists in the world.
Greg has been actively involved in the study of life history, ecology, and physiology of sharks. His shark research has spanned multiple fish habitats around the globe; from the frigid waters of the Arctic Circle to coral reefs in the tropical Central Pacific. In recent years, Greg has become the face of all things shark-related on Cape Cod.
Skomal and his associate, John Chisholm, were the first to successfully tag and track great whites in the Northwest Atlantic Ocean using high-tech tags through the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy. The organization now has the ability to track local and long-range movements, study behavior and biology, and estimate population size of great whites in the area. Since Greg began tagging white sharks in Cape Cod and MA, he and his crew have tagged over 280 white sharks.
We have been fortunate to know Greg since we were kids, and we have always admired his passion and knowledge for the ocean. This conversation was truly incredible and we hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
Topics Covered:

The film Jaws
Tagging white sharks with a pulpit and airplane

Since we last had Damon on the show, he traveled to Mexico to fish on No Tuna No Chinga targeting monster yellowfin tuna, and we also had the entire 2020 and 2021 fishing seasons go by up here in the Northeast.
Damon is always a pleasure to talk to and collaborate with. We share some suspenseful and hysterical fish stories in this one, including a story about catching a 900+ lb blue marlin on one engine... We talk about his trip to Mexico, the 2021 Castafari season and tournaments, and get into details about tactics for targeting giant bluefin tuna in Cape Cod Bay. Damon is also heading to fish in Columbia soon, and he talks about the logistics for that trip.
We spend a bit of time talking about the upcoming 2022 Castafari Offshore Fishing Seminar (March 5th and 6th), which is always an educational and exciting event to attend. Thank you for tuning into the SeaBros Fishing Podcast!
On this episode we sit down with our good friend and fellow charter captain, Shawn Rotella. Shawn originally hails from Virginia Beach, VA and currently resides in Kona, Hawaii and has been running a successful charter fishing business (Night Runner Sportfishing) in Kona for 15+ years.
Initially, Shawn made the move to Hawaii to professionally surf, but plans quickly changed and he found himself on the path to being a full-time fisherman. We met Shawn several years ago through the tackle industry and lure making and we have been great friends ever since. Fast forward a few years and we have been lucky enough to fish together several times; both in Kona and up here in the Northeast.
Shawn is great example of a passionate and intelligent fisherman. His ability to stay relaxed, trust his instincts, and notice patterns on the water is incredible. He is also an extremely detail oriented guy. Every aspect of his tackle and vessel is rigged to perfection and is purpose built. Having a ton of experience with fiberglass and resin certainly helps him when it comes to preventative maintenance, customization, and innovation aboard the Night Runner.

Capt. Rob Taylor and Capt. Seth Funt - "Bluefish Hotel"
05 Apr 2024
02:03:38
Thank you for tuning into the SeaBros Fishing Podcast! On this episode we have two returning guests, captains Rob Taylor and Seth Funt. If you haven't listened to our first episodes with these guys, Rob runs a charter fishing company out of Newport, RI called Newport Sportfishing Charters. Seth mates for Rob throughout the season, has a boat of his own, and runs a successful bed and breakfast in Bristol, RI. We always look forward to seeing these guys. They are both passionate fishermen, hilarious and love to nerd out on fishing theories.
The coolest thing about hanging with Seth and Rob for this podcast, was seeing the reconstructed tuna skull that they brought with them. Seth's brother-in-law (@dakusbones) creates unbelievable museum quality artwork from fish skulls and skeletons, and the boys brought a 118" giant bluefin skull from a fish they caught together. It is truly incredible to see up close. It took over two years to finish and one of a kind.
This conversation with Rob and Seth brought us in a bunch of directions, covering a ton of topics. We recap their 2023 tuna fishing season, chat about rod blanks and tackle, discuss how to keep live bait in perfect condition, and discuss tactics for catching giants off of the beaches of Rhode Island and in Cape Cod Bay.
It's always a pleasure to sit down with a couple of fun, like minded fishermen from our neck of the woods. We hope you enjoy this podcast as much as we did!

Capt. Dave White - "The Renaissance Man"
28 Dec 2021
01:28:23
Thank you for tuning into the SeaBros Fishing Podcast!
On this episode we sit down with our good friend and fellow charter boat captain David White from Anna Maria Charters. Dave is an awesome dude. He's the epitome of a charter boat captain; passionate, driven, consistent, organized, thoughtful, and adventurous. There's no wonder why the Anna Maria Charters fleet did over 400 trips in 2021...
We have known Dave since 2017 and have been fortunate enough to share some amazing experiences on the water together. From 800 pound tuna in 8 foot seas, to backcountry snook in 2 feet of water.
Most recently, we hung out and fished with him on a family trip down to Florida where we had to contend with some pea soup fog and finicky inshore gags. Anna Maria is truly a perfect place to take a family fishing. A beautiful place, great accommodations, and in regards to fishing; there is always an inshore option (weather pending), and the variety of tasty offshore species is incredible.
Dave is a salt of the earth type of guy... a python hunter... orchid enthusiast...and tarpon magician.
We hope you enjoy this conversation as much as we did.
*Disclaimer. We did have some technical difficulties during this convo. We did our best to splice it together and make it flow.
Topics Covered:
Starting a charter fishing business from the ground up
Dave's transition from the restaurant business to charter fishing
Dave's passion and respect for tarpon
Dave's love of food and cooking
Charter fishing challenges
Florida's red tide and water quality issues
Dogs/scary chihuahuas

Thank you for tuning into the SeaBros Fishing Podcast!
We're back...again! On this episode we sit down and recap our 2021 charter fishing season aboard the Mass Bay Guides' boats (our family's charter fishing business). It was a great season for us. Incredible customers, good fishing, epic battles with big fish and many awesome memories.
We tell several fish stories in this one, give our perspective on the 2021 fishing season and we begin to discuss our outlook for 2022... all while trying to get comfortable at a table that we are pretty sure came across the Atlantic on the Mayflower.
Thank you all for the support and Happy Thanksgiving!

Capt. Jason Stock - "Papi Chulo"
20 May 2021
01:44:28
Thank you for tuning into the SeaBros Fishing Podcast!
Our guest on this episode of the podcast is our good friend and fellow charter boat captain Capt. Jason Stock (@captain_Jason_stock).
Jason is an absolute gem. He grew up in St. Petersburg Florida, has been fishing his entire life, and has over 15 years of full time charter fishing experience. Jason is an accomplished tournament fisherman as well and has podium finishes in the FLW Red Fish Series and various other inshore and offshore tournaments across the state of Florida. He has been featured in publications such as Florida Sportsman, Saltwater Sportsman, Kayak Angler, Saltwater Angler, Louisiana Sportsman and Waterline Magazine.
Jason also has a ton of fishing experience beyond his normal territory in the Gulf of Mexico. Over the past decade, Jason has fished from PEI Canada to Key West, across the Gulf in Louisiana, and in Panama.
We have known Jason since 2015 where we met in Prince Edward Island (PEI), Canada. We were fishing with the Bruce Brothers during the fall giant bluefin tuna season in PEI and Jason and his wife Heather were charter clients one day. The day was epic. Hand feeds, kite bites and rough seas. Jason caught and released a 1000+ lber and a 700lber out of the chair. Throughout the day, he mentioned that he was/is a charter captain out of Anna Maria Island, FL...and that is where our grandparents lived for over 30 years. Very small world. Since then, we have been close friends, our families hang out together, and we fish a lot together.
Jason is a true salt of the earth and one of the funniest humans on the planet. He has his own vocabulary, and is never short of hysterical phrases. He is also a fishy dude. Jason is always dialed in and super passionate about what he does. There is no wonder why he fishes 200+ days a year and has a charter boat called "The Full Send."
We hope you enjoy this conversation as much as we did. Lots of laughs and some AWESOME ADVICE from a top notch charter captain.

Capt. Mike Zajac - "The Entertainer"
29 Apr 2021
01:44:34
Thank you for tuning into the SeaBros Fishing Podcast!
Our guest on this episode of the podcast is Captain Mike Zajac from Canyon Runner Sportfishing. Mike began his offshore career on the Canyon Runner back in 1997... 25 years later his passion for offshore fishing has only grown stronger. He has been a member of various tournament winning teams in addition to catching thousands of tuna over his tenure with the Canyon Runner.
Capt. Mike has worked with each of the Captains who have fished with the Canyon Runner Fleet over the years and has taken something from each of them and continues to learn every time he heads offshore. “What people need to realize is the Captains and mates on these boats want to catch fish more than anyone else. While we understand fishing, it is our desire that separates us from the others.” Captain Mike also prides himself on making sure the charters come away with a positive experience. “Our number one goal is to provide an everlasting experience for our customers. For some it may be catching a trophy bigeye tuna, for others it may be hooking into blue marlin. Either way, we want our customers to walk away remembering their experience. Customer satisfaction is paramount to our success.” Captain Mike is one of the mainstays of the Canyon Runner Team. He brings the sense of camaraderie to the team and a sense of humor to keep everyone relaxed.
When Captain Mike is not pursuing pelagics throughout the summer months, he is teaching English at Asbury Park High School. This gives him an advantage when speaking at the Canyon Runner seminars and events. His natural comfort speaking to people has allowed him to share his knowledge and translate it in terms so fishermen of all skill levels can learn from him. He has been a perennial Canyon Runner speaker covering a variety of topics about pursuing tuna from trolling to chunking to rigging baits. Captain Mike loves to share what he has learned and enjoys seeing others use the techniques he has taught them.
We had a great time during this conversation with Mike. Lots of laughs, great stories, and a ton of expert knowledge shared by one of the best captains/mates in the charter fishing game.
If you wanted more insight on what it's like to be a full-time offshore fishing charter mate, this is a great episode to listen to!

Thank you for tuning in to the SeaBros Fishing Podcast!
Our guest on this episode of the show is Captain Kenton Geer. Kenton originally hails from New Hampshire, but has made the world of offshore fishing his home for the past 25+ years. For the last decade Kenton has been a resident of Hawaii and he currently runs his own commercial fishing operation based out of the big island, Vicious Cycle Fishing. Kenton and his crew aboard the Vicious Cycle primarily target, harvest, and commercially sell big eye tuna, yellowfin tuna, mahi mahi, wahoo, and marlin. They spend the majority of their time off the grid; 100+ miles off the coast of Hawaii at the islands' offshore seamounts.
Prior to establishing himself in Hawaii, Kenton traveled and fished all over the globe from Jeffreys Ledge in the Gulf of Maine, to Costa Rica, Panama, and even all the way to the Great Barrier Reef in Australia working on game boats.
We had an absolute blast during this conversation with Kenton! He is a true savage on the ocean in the best of ways. Kenton has unparalleled experience on the water/ offshore, with several back to back seasons with 300+ days fished...His fish stories and adventures are endless, unfiltered, honest, and bad ass. It was truly a pleasure to meet him and have him on the podcast. We are looking forward to collaborating again in the future, including on his own podcast: Vicious Cycle - Whiskey, Women, and Water.

Thanks for tuning in to the SeaBros Fishing Podcast! Our guest on this episode of the show is Captain Tommy Howd. Tommy is one of the pioneers of daytime swordfishing in the Northeast Canyons. He has more than 75 overnight offshore trips under his belt, including many fishing with his entire family aboard their 61' Richie Howell, "Tokatomist."

The Monahan's Marine Crew - "Serving South Shore Boaters"
22 Mar 2024
02:10:51
Thank you for tuning into the SeaBros Fishing Podcast! On this episode we visit Monahan's Marine in Weymouth, MA and join their crew for a great conversation. We sit down with Brian Curreri, Matt Connor, Marc Panico, and Conor Holway to discuss what it's like to run a full service marine service and fishing tackle business.
We recently partnered with Monahan’s, and are excited to be working with a local marine business that has been serving the South Shore of Massachusetts since 1961. For decades, the crew at Monahan’s has been helping generations of boat owners with outboard parts, boat service, marine equipment, and fishing tackle. Their professionalism and passion for being on the water has made them one of the most reputable boating headquarters in the Northeast.
Monahan’s is located on Washington Street in Weymouth. They are currently a Jones Brothers and Tidewater Boats retailer and have the most well stocked inventory of Yamaha Outboards, parts, and rigging in MA. The entire staff and crew of technicians have decades of experience. As a recent addition, Monahan’s has built and rigged out a brand new 4,000 sqft offshore and inshore tackle shop. The grand opening of this new space is set for Saturday April 6th. They will be fully stocked with everything needed for offshore canyon fishing, nearshore bluefin tuna fishing, striped bass fishing and more. We are excited to be able to use this space as a new home base to maintain our own tackle and charter fishing fleet, as well as a spot to film some upcoming podcasts and workshops.
In this conversation we discuss the beginnings of Monahan's business, their recent partnership with Scituate Boatworks, and their new tackle shop space. We tell a few fish stories and discuss our goals going into the 2024 fishing season.

Mark has over 30 years of fishing experience across all categories; commercial fishing, charter fishing, recreational/sportfishing, and tournament fishing. He has proven himself in the Northeast and East Coast and has earned the reputation as one of the top hi-liners in our industry. Mark has a long list of distinguished accomplishments in his fishing career including;

Many podium appearances and tournament wins, including the Mid Atlantic 500

Previous captain and mate at Canyon Runner Sportfishing
The list goes "on and on."
Mark is currently the captain of a 52' Viking, "Rebel", and manages a fleet of commercial monkfish boats out of Shinnecock, NY.
We have known Mark for many years; presenting at the same seminars and workshops in various locations, including the Castafari Offshore Fishing Seminar. This was actually one of the first times we have had a chance to sit down and pick Mark's brain ourselves over a long conversation. Mark is a passionate and detail oriented guy. He proves that with his answers to our questions, his epic fish stories, and his willingness to give details on the tactics that he implements aboard the "Rebel".
In this episode Mark talks about night fishing in the canyons, his obsession with big eye tuna, what he would run for a 5 rod canyon spread given only $100, and much, much more.
Most importantly, Mark shares a terrifying experience he had sinking and having to get into a survival suit and life raft in the middle of January off of NY. Reiterating that fact that safety is paramount.

Hey everyone! Thanks for tuning in. Our guest on this episode of the SeaBros Fishing Podcast is Captain Jamie Bruce of Bruce Brothers Fishing Charters based out of Prince Edward Island (PEI) Canada.
We have been close friends and basically family members with Jamie, Troy, and the rest of the Bruces for more than a decade now. Over the last 11 years we have been fortunate enough to enjoy many great days on and off the water.
We cover A LOT in this conversation. Jamie explains the history of fishing, specifically for giant bluefin tuna, within 4 generations of Bruce family fishermen. He discusses how the charter fishery evolved in PEI back in the 70s, and what it looks like today. We tell many fish stories, but focus primarily on what we have seen, learned, and changed over the last 10 years of fishing together and separately; both in Canada and New England. Some of the topics we cover are:
Hooking fish (giant bluefin)
Chumming and hand-feeding
Fighting fish
Landing and releasing fish
Drag pressure
The resurgence of the bluefin tuna population
Tagging fish and studies that we have been a part of

Joe Gugino - Costa and the Canyons
20 Dec 2020
01:36:13
On this episode of the SeaBros Fishing Podcast we catch up with our friend and fellow fisherman Joe Gugino.
Joe is based out of Winthrop Massachusetts, and spends most of his time on the water in the areas surrounding Boston Harbor and North Shore, MA chasing trophy striped bass.
Taylor and I met Joe in 2019 when we sat down to discuss becoming a part of the Costa Sunglasses pro-program, which Joe helps coordinate in his role as "Fishing Community Leader" with Costa.
During our conversation, Joe discusses how he maintains relationships with all of the pros, anglers, and charter captains that are affiliated with Costa, but the majority of our time is spent discussing his rookie year of offshore fishing in the NE Canyons and local tournaments.
Joe is an energetic guy and is full of great stories and experiences. We had a lot of fun recording this episode and we hope you enjoy as well!

Capt. Deane Lambros - Canyon Runner Sportfishing
07 Dec 2020
01:41:41
Our guest on this is episode is Captain Deane Lambros of Canyon Runner Sportfishing, based out of Pt. Pleasant, New Jersey.
Like many fishermen, Deane's passion for fishing began at a very young age, as did his exposure and dedication to offshore fishing specifically. Deane joined the Canyon Runner Team in the winter of 2009 as a mate, earned his captain's license in 2010, and worked his way up to being captain of their 48' Viking by 2013 at age 24.
Deane stays busy charter fishing the New Jersey canyons and offshore fishing grounds all summer long. He travels to Cape Cod, MA in the fall months to commercial bluefin tuna fish, as he does in the winter down in North Carolina.
Deane is a passionate, hardworking, and skilled captain who sets an excellent example of what a good charter captain should be.
In this conversation, we cover a lot of great topics. We discuss the Canyon Runner Sportfishing program and how their fisheries change throughout the season. Deane takes us through the typical tournament schedule for the Canyon Runner fleet. We all share our perspective on how COVID impacted charter fishing up in the Northeast during the 2020 season. Deane even shares details on how to be faster and more efficient in the cockpit and also shares what he would run for an offshore trolling spread with only $100 in his pocket...
We really enjoyed talking with Deane. He's a very experienced fisherman and always provides great knowledge when we catch up... Lot's of laughs and good information shared in this episode.
