| 368: Loving Your Quirks | 20 Dec 2023 | 00:27:47 | |
Unlocking Your Superpowers: Embracing Your Quirks Summary: Are you tired of trying to fit in and be like everyone else? It's time to love your quirks and embrace what makes you unique. Discover the secret to a more confident and joyful life: loving your quirks. Host Tonya Leigh takes listeners into just how powerful embracing one's quirks is and how it positively impacts self-confidence. When individuals accept and love their unique qualities, they send a message to their subconscious mind that they are deserving of love and acceptance. This, in turn, bolsters self-confidence as they no longer seek external validation or conform to societal norms. Instead, they embrace their authentic selves and allow their true essence to shine. Moreover, embracing one's quirks attracts individuals who appreciate and celebrate their own uniqueness. When individuals exude confidence in who they are and unapologetically embrace their quirks, they naturally attract like-minded individuals who appreciate and resonate with their authentic selves. These are the people who see the beauty in their quirks and celebrate them rather than passing judgment or criticism. By embracing their quirks, individuals also inspire others to do the same. When people witness someone confidently embracing their quirks and living life on their own terms, it grants them permission to do likewise. Conscious Consumption: How Your Choices Impact Your Life
In this episode of the School of Self-Image podcast, host Tonya Leigh discusses the importance of conscious consumption. She prompts listeners to reflect on what they have consumed throughout the day and its impact on their lives. Tonya also introduces the upcoming "Week of Calm" workshop and shares her experience of finding calm amidst the chaos of the COVID-19 pandemic. Tune in to learn more about the power of conscious consumption and how it can positively shape your life. What Tonya covers in this episode: 01:04 Week of Calm. 07:05 Conscious consumption. 09:22 Self-image and reference group. 15:11 Consuming sexy foods. 18:38 Letting go of consumption.
Quotes:
What have you consumed today? From the books you've read to the people you've hung out with to the music you've listened to, and even to the food that you've ingested. I want you to think about the impact that those consumptions are having on your life. Are you consuming consciously? If it's meant to be it's up to me. If you want to change your life one of the quickest and fastest ways to do it is to start consciously consuming what you want to become. I put myself in certain environments that instantly shook me up to potential new perspectives and new ways of thinking and therefore fast-tracked my growth and my experience in those areas. Do you want to become that thing that you're consuming? Because if you don't, you need to stop consuming it. A beautiful life has more to do with what you subtract than what you add.

Enclosed cognition is the idea that the clothes we wear can influence our thoughts, emotions, and behavior by triggering certain associations and expectations that we have with those clothes. By using clothing to create associations and shape our self-image, we can influence how we see ourselves, think, feel, and behave. This can also impact how others perceive us and the narrative that is built around us. Changing our style can lead to significant changes in our lives, as it is all interconnected. Therefore, it is important to ask ourselves what emotions and beliefs we want to cultivate about ourselves and choose our clothes accordingly. This concept is a core pillar within the school of self-image.
In this podcast episode, Self-Image Coach Tonya Leigh, discusses how we can control the narrative of how we want to be perceived through our clothing and style choices.
Enclosed cognition suggests that our clothes can trigger certain associations and expectations. By choosing clothes that align with our desired self-image, we can cultivate beliefs about ourselves and behave accordingly. Tonya emphasizes the importance of making associations between ourselves and our clothes first, before considering how others may perceive us. She also shares personal experiences of how her style choices have led people to associate her with certain places or qualities. This episode highlights the power of using clothing to transform our self-image and behavior.

| 341: 5 Signs It's Time for a Closet Cleanse | 14 Jun 2023 | 00:28:04 | |
In this episode, Self-Image Coach Tonya Leigh emphasizes the importance of shaping our surroundings to change our thoughts and self-image. She believes that merely thinking our way to a better life is not enough because there are too many factors involved, such as triggers and trauma. Therefore, she encourages her listeners to change their surroundings to give themselves a fighting chance. This includes changing what we see in the mirror every day, as the reflection tells us a story about ourselves. Tonya discusses the five signs that it's time for a closet cleanse. The first sign is that you have a closet full of clothes, but nothing to wear. This means that you have a lot of items in your closet, but you don't feel confident or comfortable in any of them. The second sign is that you're holding onto clothes that are outdated or no longer fit your current style. The third sign is that your clothes don't fit properly, either because they're too small or too big. The fourth sign is that you have evolved as a person, but your closet hasn't kept up with your changes. This means that you may have different style preferences or body shape than you did in the past. The fifth and final sign is that you feel overwhelmed or stressed when you look in your closet. This could be because you have too many options or because you don't have a clear sense of what you want your style to be. Overall, the host emphasizes the importance of regularly cleansing your closet to ensure that you have a wardrobe that reflects your current style and makes you feel confident and comfortable. Furthermore, the host discusses the dangers of going unconscious and overstuffing our closets. She compares it to overeating to soothe ourselves and buy more to solve our problems. When we don't stop and assess our habits and behaviors, we can accumulate so many things that our closets become too full, and we can't find anything. Tonya believes that cleaning out our closets is a symbolic gesture to the universe that we're ready for change and that it's essential to stop and assess our habits and behaviors to avoid overstuffing our closets and our lives. [00:00:00] Closet Cleanse Signs. [00:08:45] What Your Closet Says About You. [00:13:23] Personal style and wardrobe. [00:18:05] Embracing empty spaces. [00:25:30] Style for reinventing identity. | 339: Outcome Actions vs. Be Actions | 31 May 2023 | 00:12:05 | |
Tonya Leigh has set a goal to assist 5,000 women in creating their "after" and documenting the process. She considers the reviews left by listeners on iTunes as a form of "after" because they share how the podcast has impacted their lives. The host expresses gratitude towards the listeners who have left a review and encourages others who have benefited from the podcast to do the same. In this episode, the concept of be actions versus outcome actions is discussed in detail. Tonya explains that most people struggle to achieve their goals because they focus solely on the outcome they want, rather than the person they need to become to achieve that goal. She emphasizes the importance of focusing on one's identity or "being" rather than just the outcome or "getting." The host gives examples from her own life, such as struggling with weight loss and money, where she would take outcome actions such as going on a diet or trying to work out, but would ultimately sabotage herself and go back to her old state of being. She realized she needed to focus on becoming the person she wanted to become, rather than just achieving the outcome. By focusing on 'be actions', the outcome will become effortless, and once the outcome is achieved, it will be easier to sustain because the person's identity has already changed to match what they want. By focusing on creating small wins and little bits of evidence every day that she is a fit woman, the host is able to shift her focus from the outcome to her self-image. She creates new neural pathways that confirm her new identity, and as a result, her outcomes change. Tonya emphasizes that changing one's identity is the key to achieving desired outcomes, not the other way around. [00:02:25] Be actions vs. outcome actions. [00:05:02] Overcoming limiting beliefs. [00:08:45] Changing identity for effortless outcome.
Quotes: When I think about myself having a fit body, then who is she? How does she identify? What is her self-image? We create our extraordinary goal, which is the outcome that we want. But then we look at who do we need to become to achieve that goal, to achieve that outcome. The reason why the majority of people struggle in achieving their goals is because they are taking action for an outcome versus taking action for a new state of being. We focus on changing our identity so that the outcome literally becomes effortless. Useful Resources:

Quotes: Charm means the power of giving delight or arousing admiration to achieve something as if by magic. Life gives to the giver and takes from the taker. Live to impress yourself. Another thing to do if you want to live a charmed life is to unplug from the unattractive. Charm and complaining don't go together. But the other beautiful thing about slowing down is that you begin to realize that life can only be as beautiful as you make this moment."

On this episode of the School of Self-Image Podcast with host and Self-Image Coach Tonya Leigh, she breaks down her top lessons from growing up in the South. Tonya is back in the South after being away for many years and reflects upon the importance of environment in personal development. With deep gratitude for being back home, she admires the beauty of the trees in Charlotte, North Carolina, and the lessons that served her well growing up in the South. [00:21:44] Living life in a rush.
Quotes: When I think about my future self she always makes time for her family and friends. My mom did the best with what she had and she really taught me a beautiful lesson that I didn't realize was so important until later when I noticed that a lot of people around me had a lot of fear around using their best and for me I was like this is just what we do. There was a level of expectation as to how you treated each other and now I realize it's one of the things that I appreciate about the French culture. I didn't realize it at the time but ma'am and sir come from the French madame and monsieur. There is a level of civility and respect for one another and how you communicate and how you address people, how you talk and I think that is a beautiful thing. Quite honestly, it's missing in a large portion of our society today.

| 334: Emotional Fluency | 26 Apr 2023 | 00:28:15 | |
In this episode of the School of Self-Image, host Tonya Leigh talks about the importance of being sold on oneself and emotional fluency. She challenges the listener to believe in their own value, worth, and capabilities. Tonya emphasizes the need to appreciate where we are now and not fight against it. She also shares about her current workshop, the Royal Treatment Workshop, and the positive feedback she has received from participants. The episode ends with a reminder to focus on where we can reach from where we are now.
[03:13] Self-image and weight loss. [00:08:04] The Slim Self-Image. [00:10:13] Emotional fluency. [00:14:18] Primary emotional language. [00:17:35] Back to harmony with your self-image. [00:22:08] Emotional language keeping you stuck. [00:26:37] Transitional emotions.
Quotes: One of the most important aspects of self-image is understanding our emotions. In order to become emotionally fluent, we must practice our new language. We must be willing to feel the discomfort of change and the discomfort of letting go of familiar emotions. We must believe in ourselves and our abilities to succeed. We must be sold on ourselves.

In this episode of the School of Self-Image podcast, host Tonya Leigh discusses the value of personal opinions. She starts by encouraging listeners to join the School of Self-Image membership program. She then mentions her own obsessions, including pickleball and the world of style. Tonya talks about how many of us struggle with valuing our own opinions and conforming to society's expectations. She shares tips for building confidence and believing in our own opinions, including understanding our values and setting boundaries. Tonya reminds listeners that their opinions matter and encourages them to speak up and share their unique perspectives with the world. [00:02:06] Lessons from building a house. Quotes:
I am loving learning all the things about color and scale. And it's very similar to styling yourself. It's just taking a lot of those same principles and applying them to your home. I was thinking about why is it that we don't value our own opinion. Why is it that we ask other people their opinion and value it over our own? And I'm really curious about what you think. What is your opinion about this? And we began to just be a sponge for everybody else's opinions without being encouraged to come up with our own. And that is exactly why when clients come to me and they'll ask me a question, I will be like, I don't know, you tell me, what do you think?

| 332: The Courage To Be Seen | 12 Apr 2023 | 00:19:30 | |
"Overcome the Fear of Being Seen: A Guide to Embodying Your Queen Energy".
SUMMARY
Tonya Leigh is a master life coach and the host of the School of Self-Image podcast. In this episode, she is discussing the importance of having the courage to be seen.
Courage is an important quality to cultivate in order to be successful in life. This is why self-image work is so important. It involves seeing yourself as worthy, capable and deserving, and then having the courage to back this up with action. This is why the School of Self-Image is offering a five day workshop, where participants will learn valuable things and will be taught in a new way. It's a great opportunity to bring friends, family and confidants along. During the episode, Ambrose Red Moon's quote about courage is discussed, which states that courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgement that something else is more important than fear. This is a useful reminder when it comes to overcoming the fear of being seen, which is a common fear for many people.
In this conversation, Tonya discusses the fear of being seen and the reasons why people may be afraid of this. The fear of judgement, rejection, and failure, as well as cultural norms and trauma that may have been experienced when being seen. Tonya also talks about how the majority of the world is actually rooting for people to be seen, and encourages them to take up space and express themselves. The key takeaway from this conversation is that although it may be scary to be seen, it is worth it to live a full, authentic and bold life.
What We Cover in This Episode:
0:00:00 Stepping Into Your Queen Energy
0:01:50 Overcoming the Fear of Being Seen
0:04:27 Self-Discovery and Awareness
0:06:12 Overcoming Fear and Embracing Your Authentic Self
0:13:23 Reflections on Courage and Self-Judgment
0:15:48 Fear of Being Judged: How to Embrace Courage and Reach Extraordinary Goals"
0:17:39 A Challenge for the Week
Quotes:
Would you rather be like the person who's on stage giving it their all or the person up in the stands criticizing?
Because, let's face it, if you've been fearing being seen for years, maybe even decades, it's not going to go away overnight.
A big life requires that you feel big emotions. So this means that the courage to be seen is not about not fearing it.
To me, the other reason why you may be afraid of being seen is because of cultural norms.
It's a lot of self discovery and awareness and overcoming fear. And one of the common fears that I see when women start to dress differently is that they're so afraid of getting attention because their entire lives, they've dressed to avoid that attention, because attention is scary.
I'm talking about being seen for who you are. Have you ever had that person in your life who just sees you? You know that they see who you really are, and there's so much love and celebration and acceptance of that. It's a beautiful thing.

| 331: The 3 Crown Jewels of Queen Energy | 05 Apr 2023 | 00:23:20 | |
"Unleash Your Inner Queen: 3 Crown Jewels of Queen Energy"
SUMMARY
In this episode, Tonya Leigh discusses the three crown jewels of Queen Energy - ways of being and attitudes that create Queen energy. The first crown jewel is taking commitments to oneself seriously. The second crown jewel is self-care. The third crown jewel is that of an attitude of acceptance.
A queen is someone who takes their commitments to themselves seriously and does not shy away from the discomfort of making changes in order to become a powerful leader of their own life. A queen also has a 'red velvet rope'; they know how to set boundaries and limit access to their life. This can mean saying no to people and events they don't want to participate in. A queen is someone who sets high standards for themselves and respects their own needs and wants. They understand that in order to achieve their goals, they must make sacrifices and push through the discomfort of change.
This conversation is about why it is important to set boundaries for yourself in order to be the queen of your life.

Quotes:
We have to be willing to have our own backs. And to me, that is the epitome of Queen Energy.
A queen takes her commitments to herself seriously.
Anything that you do that's unfamiliar is difficult. In the beginning, our brain wants to fight the unfamiliar because the brain doesn't trust it. And so part of being a queen, and this is not even one of the crown jewels, but it encompasses all of this, is that you must be willing to feel discomfort in order to change and step up and be the powerful leader of your own life. So that is crown jewel number one.
And every time you make a commitment to yourself and you don't show up for it, you are breaking trust with yourself.

| 330: Self-Image Vs. Public Image | 29 Mar 2023 | 00:15:14 | |
"Fostering a Positive Public Image Through Developing Self-Image"
SUMMARY
In this episode, host Tonya Leigh discusses the importance of self-image over public image. She is recording from a destination location she has dreamed of visiting for 15 years: The Maldives.
Between snorkeling in an aquarium-like environment every day and playing pickleball with her friends, Tonya is unplugging from technology to enjoy the moment and treat herself like a queen. Inspired and rested, Tonya will be hosting a five-day workshop soon called the Royal Treatment. Stay tuned for more information coming soon.
So what's the difference between self-image and public image? Aligning the two can create extraordinary results. Self-image refers to how a person perceives and sees themselves, including their thoughts, appearance, personality, and capabilities. Public image, on the other hand, is related to how one is perceived by the external world and is shaped by one's self-image.
This conversation explores self-image, the mental picture you have of yourself, and includes your strengths, weaknesses, and personal characteristics. This is shaped by your experiences, beliefs, and values. Tonya also explores public image, how other people perceive you, and is shaped by your behaviors, actions, and interactions. Although both are important, without a strong self-image, true happiness, and well-being can't be achieved. When working on your public image, it is important to do it in service of who you are becoming, not just to impress others. Doing this work in service of yourself, focusing on your self-image first, will have a positive impact on your public image.
What we cover in this episode:
0:00:00 Guess where I am?
0:01:06 Dreaming of the Maldives and Experiencing the Royal Treatment
0:03:17 Exploring the Difference Between Self Image and Public Image
0:11:44 The Impact of Positive Self Image on Public Image
0:13:43 Aligning Your Self Image with Your Public Image
Quotes:
Without a positive self-image, you are going to suffer. It doesn't matter how great your public image is. If how you see yourself isn't compassionate and loving and kind and positive, it is going to impact your sense of well being, which is why we always have to bring it back to how we see ourselves.
It's so hard to keep up a positive public image when your self-image is so negative.
It's hard to create what you want unless you're willing to change your self-image to allow for that result. So I will always vote for self-image as being more important than public image.
Your public image, on the other hand, refers to how other people perceive you as an individual. It's the external representation that you want to present to others and it's the story that other people have about you and it is shaped by your behaviors, your actions, and the way you interact with other people.

Your home is a reflection of the stage or even the state of mind you are in.
Welcome to today's episode of the 'School of Self-Image' Podcast with host and self-image coach, Tonya Leigh, where personal development meets style. This is a go-to podcast for women who desire to transform their self-image so that they can create mind-blowing results in their lives.
Do you agree that your home is a reflection of who you are? Because I strongly believe that your home represents and reveals so much about a person, even their personality. The way you decorate your home, the colors you choose, and the furnishings you choose based on your preferences, speak volumes about you. The things you display such as photographs or mementos that connect to your values and beliefs show what is most important to you. And what about your experiences? Do you travel? Do you cherish those memories and places? Anyone who enters your home will know this instantly depending on what they see. Is your home calm, cluttered, busy, or colorful? What does your home reveal about you? Over the years of moving from one place to another, I've had so many where I have learned so much about someone just by living for a time in their space. Your home is part of your self-image, even without you knowing it. If you're curious to know more about what your home reveals about you, head over and listen to this week's episode!
What I Cover In This Episode: 0:00 - Intro 1:21 - Tips for getting things done 2:15 - What does 'home mean to you'? 6:05 - How is Tonya Leigh living her life? 10:44 - What is your home saying about you? 14:14 - My top 4 values 15:38 - What is your version of your own 'ideal wealthy home'? 21:44 - How to be a woman for the future? 23:23 - Reasons why your home is a great reflection of who you are
Quotes:
"I often say your inner world creates your outer world. So, how you think and feel impacts the choices that you make, and those choices create results equal to your outer world. Everything that's around your environment, your home, the people you hang out with impact your inner world."
"I'm a big advocate of changing your outer world to help you change your inner one. One of the ways that we can do that is to focus on elevating, transforming, and possibly even changing our home ~ the place that we live because our home reveals so much about us."
"When we're looking at our homes, it tells a big meta-story about us. It can tell us our fears. It can tell us about our darkest secrets. It can tell us about our personality, and our dreams. Our house can reveal so much. It also offers us a snapshot of what's going on within us at this moment."
"I look around at the things that I've chosen to have. Over the next year as we live here, it's actually really telling. That's the beauty of a home. It will reveal to you what's important. It will reveal to you what your values are. It will reveal to you maybe even your dreams and your fears."
"No matter the state of your home right now, you are an amazing, beautiful woman. So what your home is revealing about you is simply your thought and about your environment, because at the end of the day, that's our whole experience, what we think about everything."

| 328: Overcoming Superwoman Syndrome | 15 Mar 2023 | 00:22:03 | |
Overcome Superwoman Syndrome: Prioritize, Say No and Get Help
SUMMARY
This episode is dedicated to all the superwomen out there who are trying to do it all and be it all. Host Tonya Leigh explains how many women find themselves in the predicament of trying to fulfill multiple roles such as being a career woman, mother, wife, friend, daughter and more while also trying to maintain high standards in each role. This is referred to as the Superwoman Syndrome, a term coined in the 1980s by Dr. Marjorie Hansen Chavez in her book The Superwoman Syndrome. Women may feel guilty or ashamed if they cannot meet their own expectations and feel like they need to do and be everything to everyone.
The Superwoman Syndrome is a condition which leads to burnout, stress, and other negative health outcomes. People afflicted with the syndrome are not prioritizing their self care, playing, or resting, as they are too busy trying to live up to the expectations of others. To get out of the toxic cycle of the Superwoman Syndrome, one must understand the root of the fear and deal with it.
Additionally, they must be willing to say no to things that are not important to them in order to help them focus on their most important priorities. Finally, they must acknowledge that this may mean disappointing some people, but it is necessary in order to take control of one's life.
Here is what we cover in this episode:

Quotes:
There's a thing where you can get a dog sitter. There are all these amazing apps with help at your fingertips, and yet a lot of you refuse to take advantage of it. Why? Why aren't you getting the help that you need?
To overcome superwoman syndrome, you're going to have to be willing to be imperfect and to realize that it's a beautiful thing. Because that means you've accepted yourself as you are. And you're showing up in your most expansive self. And expansive does not mean perfect. Expansive means true.
I'm not good enough, and I'm afraid of being found out. So let me put on this facade and pretend that I am perfect. This is what superwomen do.
Even when you make mistakes, even when you fail, even when it's not all buttoned up and buttoned up and tidy, you're still extraordinary. You're still amazing.
Let me tell you all, resentment is a telltale sign that you may be suffering from Superwoman Syndrome. So pay attention if you're feeling resentful or angry or frustrated on a daily basis. Those are three emotions that often indicate that you have this syndrome.

| 326: Style Standards | 01 Mar 2023 | 00:17:19 | |
Summary:
What is your minimum style standard? If you don't know yet, this is the perfect episode ofor you. Setting a standard for yourself in so many areas of your life is important, including your style standard. Maybe it is lip gloss and mascara before leaving the house, or never wearing sweats. One of mine is, spoiler alert, hoodies. Hoodies are great and many women can really rock a great hoodie. But they just are not my style nor part of my style standard.
Style standards vary widely depending on a number of factors such as cultural norms, personal preferences, and current fashion trends. But your everyday style standard is focused on your expression of YOU. Styling what you wear helps boost confidence and a positive self-image. You want someone to see you, and your style, and know it expresses your unique authentic self. This is the very reason why I emphasize style and I advocate it.
If you're curious to know more about how you can start elevating your style standards, be sure to check out The Style Experience with me while you listen to this week's episode!
What I Cover In This Episode: 0:00 - Intro 0:30 - Little things that count 1:25 - How do I decide what to wear 3:07 - What are my style standards? 3:57 - The importance of consistency 5:09 - The impact of your "I am" statements 6:11 - How to create your style standards 8:34 - How to raise your style standards 9:27 - How style is essential in boosting your confidence and self-respect 12:09 - Reasons why you should consider having your style standards 15:53 - How to define your purpose
Quotes:
"We can use our style and our environment to help us create new feelings. Which is why I'm an advocate of changing our environments. I'm an advocate of changing our style. I'm an advocate of taking action to shake things up. Because it gives you new perspectives. It allows you to access new thoughts. And it's a quick and easy way to shift the energy at the moment."
"Do you have a set of operating principles that you live by that make it easy to make decisions in terms of how you dress, how you carry yourself, or how you communicate? These sets of operating principles also help you to see yourself in a way that serves you. They help you to elevate your self-image."
"What my standard is may not be your standard. That's the point of style. Style is to be original to figure out who you want to be and to express that on purpose."
"So stop being lazy, stop looking like a bum, let's get up, get dressed, and put our best self out to the world. But more importantly, put your best self out there for you.
"You can have one outfit, one pair of shoes, one statement necklace, one bold red lip, one haircut, one pantsuit, one pair of jeans, one jacket, but literally can change your life."
