Hi Scaredy Cats! Join us as we talk home invasion horror and tackle The Strangers and The Strangers: Prey at Night. We chat about true crime, what protagonist truly bothers us, and delve into why home invasion movies just hit a little differently. TRIGGER WARNING: We do cover details of the true crime cases that inspired writer/director of The Strangers, Bryan Bertino, so the conversation gets graphic.

Join us as we chat about fan theories, female rage and the little details we picked up on our latest rewatch. Just stay out of the caves, okay?
| Fright Night | 27 Oct 2022 | 01:08:19 | |
Hey Scaredy Cats. In the mid eighties, monster movies just weren’t the trend in horror. The genre was dominated by slashers like Friday the 13th. In 1984, we had movies like Silent Night, Deadly Night, Friday the 13th: the Final Chapter (spoiler alert, it wasn’t) and probably most importantly of all, A Nightmare on Elm Street. But the horror writers and directors of the eighties would have grown up with the Hammer horror movies, so it was inevitable that someone would have come along to revitalize the monster movie, or more specifically, the vampire movie. That person was Tom Holland and his 1985 love letter to classic horror was Fright Night. Joining us to chat about vampires are the Real Housewives of Saskatoon, Crystal and Michelle. I’m your host Sherri and this is just your friendly reminder that as always there will be loads of spoilers, so if you haven’t seen the movie, go watch it! Otherwise, proceed at your own risk. Before we get into the movie, I just wanted to share something near and dear to my heart. We have a special event coming up… On November 5, I’ll be holding the 3rd annual Scareathon – my gaming marathon during which I will play scary games for 24 hours straight and stream them on Twitch as part of Extra Life Game Day. Extra Life is an organization that was founded in Texas in 2008 and they’ve raised over $100 million USD to support children’s hospitals. They help fund critical treatments or pediatric medical equipment, ensure that hospitals can provide charitable care and cover specialized services that may not be covered by insurance. I’ll be raising money for my local Children’s Miracle Network hospital and I’d love it if you popped in. I will be doing all kinds of silly things to entertain and incentivize donors. You can find me on Twitch as Scaredy Sherri and you can donate here. Give our guest hosts a follow as well!
| The Haunted Library Presents: The Haunting of Hill House | 21 Oct 2022 | 00:57:37 | |
Hey Scaredy Cats! Welcome to the Haunted Library. I’m Sherri… (Ryan introduces himself). We’ve talked about it on so many occasions, but we are both huge fans of haunted house stories. Since it’s October and Halloween is just around the corner, we wanted to talk about one of our favourite haunted house novels. In fact, it’s a book so scary that Stephen King has described it as one of the most important horror novels of the twentieth century. It’s an absolute classic and has inspired a play, two movies and a Netflix series. Grab yourself a seasonal beverage, curl up under your favourite blanket and get cozy because it’s time to talk about Shirley Jackson’s The Haunting of Hill House.
| Satan's Slaves | 01 Oct 2022 | 01:10:19 | |
Hey Scaredy Cats. Imagine you’re a young child, maybe six or seven years old. You head to your local theatre to catch a matinee all by yourself. You’re a hardened horror fan despite your young age, but what you see scares you so much that you literally pray for the sunshine to last. This movie sticks with you for decades and when you become a filmmaker, you remake it as a way of purging it from your system. That’s exactly what happened to Indonesian filmmaker, Joko Anwar. The movie? Satan’s Slaves. This is just your friendly reminder that as always, we will be breaking down the plot in great detail. That means… there will be loads of spoilers, so if you haven’t seen the movie, go watch it! Otherwise, proceed at your own risk. Joining us to talk about Satan’s Slaves is Jenn from the awesome podcast, I Hate Your Taste In Movies.
| Immersive Scares: Horror Video Games | 25 Apr 2024 | 01:29:50 | |

| The Haunted Library Presents: Books for Those Spooky Fall Vibes | 16 Sep 2022 | 00:54:55 | |
Hey Scaredy Cats! Welcome to the Haunted Library! We’re your hosts, Sherri and Ryan. It’s September, so you know what that means. Fall is officially here – ignore the haters who say that fall doesn’t officially start until September 22. Wrap yourself up in your coziest sweater, grab a pumpkin spice latte, and get comfy because we’re about to share with you some of our favourite spooky fall reads.
| Death Proof | 01 Sep 2022 | 01:53:59 | |
Hey Scaredy Cats. In 2003, Quentin Tarantino started showing double features at his house. Being the die hard film fanatic that he is, he would also play movie trailers before each film. At one such screening, his friend Robert Rodriguez suggested that they do a double feature together. Tarantino loved the idea and came up with the name Grindhouse. For the price of one movie ticket, you got to see two cool movies made as tribute to the grindhouse movies of the seventies, complete with fake trailers and ads. Rodriguez made the zombie action horror Planet Terror and Tarantino made a slasher movie that also paid tribute to classic car movies like Vanishing Point and Gone in 60 Seconds (the good one, not that Angelina Jolie bullshit as one of the characters says). Unfortunately, the concept didn’t make a big impact on the box office in North America and the movies were then released separately for international audiences. Just a friendly reminder that as always, we will be breaking down the plot in great detail. That means… there will be loads of spoilers, so if you haven’t seen the movie, go watch it! Otherwise, proceed at your own risk. Joining us to talk about one part of the Grindhouse double feature are Kendall from the TerrorNova podcast, Jessica, and Ryan. Give our guest hosts a follow as well!
| The Haunted Library Presents: Gloria | 25 Jul 2022 | 00:49:53 | |
Hey Scaredy Cats! Welcome to the Haunted Library with Sherri and Ryan. This month’s installment is all about Gloria by Bentley Little: "Considering she had just attended her mother’s funeral, Gloria Jaymes never expected to see the woman again, but then her dead mom shows up at her house. Gloria’s mom is… different. She’s younger than when she died, dressed in clothes from the 1980s. And nobody else in Gloria’s family seems to recognize her. As Gloria tries to figure out the reason for her mother’s reappearance — and the odd behaviors the woman begins to exhibit — other bizarre events occur. The changes to Gloria’s world are small and subtle, at first… then they become much more startling. The freaky situation might just be connected to a mysterious shed in a small California town. The strangers who gather around the shed seem to know Gloria’s name… and maybe they aren’t strangers after all."
| Creepshow | 25 Jul 2022 | 01:35:49 | |
Picture this. Two horror legends meet and become friends. They put their collective heads together to create a horror anthology that pays homage to old comic books. Comic books that told grisly tales of murder and astonishing creatures. Bring in a special effects and make up wizard. Add a handful of familiar faces. What do you get? The absolute delight that is 1982’s Creepshow. Joining us to talk about this anthology classic are Crystal, Jon and Steve. This is just your friendly reminder that as always, we will be breaking down the plot in great detail. That means… there will be loads of spoilers, so if you haven’t seen the movie, go watch it! Otherwise, proceed at your own risk. Give our guest hosts a follow as well! Crystal
| Peeping Tom | 06 Jun 2022 | 01:32:36 | |
Hey Scaredy Cats. It’s rare for a movie to pretty much bomb upon release, practically ruining the career of its director only to be critically lauded within a couple of decades. I’m not talking about a movie becoming a cult classic after having been discovered and celebrated by fans. I’m talking about a movie that received reviews stating that the only way to deal with a movie like this was to flush it down the toilet. Twenty years later, a critic would write “if I were forced at the point of a sharpened tripod leg, to name the ten best films I have ever seen, that list would include Peeping Tom.” Give our guest hosts a follow as well!
| The Haunted Library Presents: Needful Things | 29 Apr 2022 | 01:12:21 | |
Welcome to the Haunted Library. This month’s installment is all about the so called “last Castle Rock Story,” Needful Things. We're your hosts, Ryan and Sherri, the founding members of the Castle Rock Book Club. I think this was the Castle Rock story that we were most looking forward to reading. "Leland Gaunt opens a new shop in Castle Rock called Needful Things. Anyone who enters his store finds the object of his or her lifelong dreams and desires: a prized baseball card, a healing amulet. In addition to a token payment, Gaunt requests that each person perform a little "deed," usually a seemingly innocent prank played on someone else from town. These practical jokes cascade out of control and soon the entire town is doing battle with itself. Only Sheriff Alan Pangborn suspects that Gaunt is behind the population's increasingly violent behavior."
| I Know What You Did Last Summer | 14 Apr 2022 | 01:32:59 | |
In October of 1973, author Lois Duncan released a young adult thriller. She was inspired to write it when she was making dinner, and overheard her daughter and a friend having a conversation about a boy. One of the girls had a crush on a boy, the other was talking about what to wear on a date she was looking forward to. The twist? Both girls were talking about the same boy. Duncan began to wonder – what would happen if the boy had deliberately implanted himself in the lives of two girls he knew were friends and if he built up a different personality to present to each of them. She later read a story about a hit and run accident in the newspaper. These events formed the basis of the novel I Know What You Did Last Summer. More than 20 years later, Kevin Williamson, riding high on his Scream success, would sell his script for a movie very, very loosely based on Duncan’s novel. It was the late nineties after all and teen horror was EVERYTHING. So, get out your tiaras and your crop tops. Watch out for rain slickers and bad hair. It’s time to talk about I Know What You Did Last Summer. Joining us to celebrate the 4th of July are the Real Housewives of Saskatoon, Crystal and Michelle. Give our guest hosts a follow as well!
| Deep Blue Sea | 13 Mar 2022 | 01:29:53 | |
Sharks are pretty much the perfect horror movie villains. They’re lean, mean killing machines. And they look so cool. Shark movies have a long and perhaps not so illustrious history. The first shark movie ever filmed was 1936’s White Death which featured author Zane Grey as he hunts for a killer shark off the coast of Queensland, Australia. It was followed by movies like The Sharkfighters and Shark!, but it wasn’t until 1975 that shark movies really hit their stride. But no, sorry, we’re not about to talk about THAT shark movie… yet. Instead, we’re going to fast forward 24 years when sharks became Bigger. Smarter. Faster. Meaner. Renny Harlin’s Deep Blue Sea revitalized the shark movie after years of sequels and b movies (which, let’s be honest, I still love). Just a friendly reminder that as always, we will be breaking down the plot in great detail. That means… there will be loads of spoilers, so if you haven’t seen the movie, proceed at your own risk. Joining us as we head to Aquatica are Michele and return guests Katie and Ariana. Give our guest hosts a follow as well!
| The Haunted Library Presents: A Conversation with Tyler Jones | 26 Feb 2022 | 01:24:14 | |
Welcome to the first official episode of the haunted library! I’m pretty sure that I came to horror first through books and stories before I got brave enough to watch horror movies. It just makes sense to me to expand the podcast to a whole new avenue. And let’s be honest, there was a little bit of peer pressure from my friend Ryan who I nerd out with books on a pretty regular basis. So, each month, Ryan and I will be talking about a different book or writer in the horror world. For our first foray into the Haunted Library, we’re joined by Tyler Jones, the author of Criterium, The Dark Side of the Room, Almost Ruth, Enter Softly, and Burn the Plans.
| The Faculty | 25 Feb 2022 | 01:44:36 | |
It’s a universally known truth that high school can be hell. That’s a given even if you don’t have masked killers picking off your friends one by one. Let’s break it down. There are the unbreakable social castes. There’s those gut wrenching unrequited crushes that you just can’t seem to talk to. There are teachers and parents who just don’t understand you. Sometimes, you don’t even understand yourself. And maybe, just maybe, there are aliens taking over your school, hoping for world domination in just a short time. What if all those sci-fi movies were trying to acclimate us to a world in which aliens were real? What if Stephen Spielberg set us up because he’s an alien?? Well, strap on your backpack, put your best nineties mix into your Walkman and get ready to head back to school. It’s time to talk about The Faculty. This is just your friendly reminder that, as always, we will be breaking down the plot in great detail. That means… there will be loads of spoilers, so if you haven’t seen the movie, proceed at your own risk! Give our guest hosts a follow as well! Crystal
| Scaredy Cats II - The Return | 11 Apr 2024 | 01:07:41 | |
We're baaaack!! (Insert creepy music here) Join us, Ryan and Sherri, as we talk about the future of the podcast and, because it's been a hot minute, chat about some of the movies, shows, games, and books we've enjoyed over the last year(ish)
| The VVitch | 13 Feb 2022 | 02:03:11 | |
Hey Scaredy Cats. Travel with us back through history as we land in 17th century New England. It wasn’t an easy life for the Puritans who immigrated from England in pursuit of so called religious freedom. First you had to deal with the harsh elements and then you had to deal with the witch in the wood. Puritans believed in the active existence of the devil and unexplained phenomena was often blamed on witches, most often women who broke the mold of religious piety and subservience. With this as his backdrop, writer and director Robert Eggers created what Indiewire called “a demon possessed Terrence Malick film.” His movie has been praised by the Satanic Temple as “a criticism of a theocratic patriarchal society and a fair representation of the stresses that puts on a community.” That’s right, it’s time to talk about The Witch. Joining us today as we discuss religion, the supernatural and maybe a little dose of female empowerment are Rosemary and Steve. Give our guest hosts a follow as well!
| The Texas Chainsaw Massacre | 28 Jan 2022 | 02:18:29 | |
We’re about to embark on a road trip along the back roads of rural Texas. A little piece of advice though… don’t go wandering off on your own. You might just run into the Sawyer family and trust me when I say that you DO NOT want to run into them. If you do, you may end up hanging from a meat hook before being served up for tonight’s dinner. It’s time to talk about the 1974 horror classic, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Joining us as we try to escape from cannibalistic Texans are Derek, Ryan and Samantha (because you know we had to have a Texan).
| 2021 Highlight Reel | 13 Jan 2022 | 00:57:17 | |
Hey Scaredy Cats! 2021 was such a great year for horror. We had long awaited returns for some big franchises. We saw some absolutely bonkers films and some genuinely terrifying ones. We got another Mike Flanagan MASTERPIECE. On top of all that, a lot of great horror books came out in 2021. And while I would love to discuss them all, I’ve narrowed it down to ten of my favourites. So, sit back, pour yourself a hot beverage because it’s time for the Scaredy Cats 2021 highlight reel. We also see the return of Ryan's book corner in which notorious book fiend and frequent guest of the podcast, Ryan, shares his favourite first reads of 2021.
| Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale | 24 Dec 2021 | 01:36:35 | |
Hey Scaredy Cats. When I was a kid, it became a tradition for my younger brothers and I to have a bit of a slumber party on Christmas Eve. We would all sleep in the same room. One of us would have the bed and the other two would sleep on the floor. We’d stay up late and inevitably, one of our parents would have to come in and tell us to go to sleep. Sounds cute, right? Well, there was a bit more of a sinister slant to it. My one brother was TERRIFIED of Christmas Eve and jolly old Saint Nick entering the house. So, solution? Safety in numbers. We used to tease him, but after seeing the movie we’re about to talk about, he may have been on to something. If you’re a horror fan, you know that Santa isn’t always a benevolent bestower of gifts. Sometimes, Santa is just plain evil. It’s time to travel far north to Lapland and meet a young boy as he battles elves, thwarts Santa and becomes a legit Finnish action hero as we chat about Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale. Collectively, they’re part of the werewolf squad (official badges on the way), but individually you know this episode's guests as Brian and Jessica. Give our guest hosts a follow as well!
| The Castle Rock Book Club | 09 Dec 2021 | 01:19:03 | |
When it comes to horror fiction, there is one writer that has reigned supreme for nearly fifty years. That writer is Stephen King. He’s probably the reason that so many people, me included, are horror fiends. Ask any fan and they can tell you what King story was their initiation into his world. King has created whole worlds and mythologies that have become such a part of our culture that even people who don’t identify as horror fans recognize some of his creations. Think of the red balloon. You don’t have to have read IT or seen one of the film adaptations to know what that is. One of his greatest creations is a small town, about 60 kilometers from Portland Maine. Castle Rock, Maine, is probably not a place you want to live in, but boy, do we sure like to visit. Castle Rock is the setting for so many Stephen King short stories, novellas and novels. There was only one possible choice for an episode about the town of Castle Rock, friend of the pod Ryan. He’s probably the biggest Stephen King fan I know, doing a thorough read through of his bibliography over the past few years and starting the Castle Rock Book Club in 2021.
| Hell House LLC | 31 Oct 2021 | 02:14:07 | |
Hey Scaredy Cats. It’s Halloween season, so you know what that means. Haunted houses, haunted corn mazes, everything is haunted at this time of year and some people thoroughly enjoy scaring themselves to the max by going to these haunts. Me? I love them. I prefer to be in the middle of the pack. This way, my back isn’t exposed, but I’m also not the leader. It’s the safest place to be. I do sometimes wonder though… is that clown really part of the show? What happens when the haunt is truly haunted? Well, you end up with Hell House LLC. Joining us for this episode are veteran Scaredy Cats, Ariana, Nic, and Samantha. They’ve checked into the Abaddon hotel with us. They may never check out.
| A Conversation With Heather Wixson | 14 Oct 2021 | 01:38:12 | |

For this extra special bonus episode, we have Heather Wixson, writer and Managing Editor for the Daily Dead, joining us to talk about her upcoming book, Monsters, Make Up & Effects: Volume One. Heather has contributed to a who’s who of horror websites and magazines. Heather also shares five of her essential Halloween movies which may force Scaredy Sherri to rethink her opinion of Rob Zombie movies. Follow Heather here:

| Dracula | 08 Oct 2021 | 01:55:35 | |
Hey Scaredy Cats! Let’s travel back in time to get a glimpse into my teenage mind. If I had to choose a favourite movie monster at that time, it would have been vampires. I loved them all. The Lost Boys? Well, you may have already heard all about that. Anne Rice novels? I devoured them. Gary Oldman and Winona Ryder. Um, yes please. But one vampire reigned supreme. He was royalty after all. Yes, I’m talking about Dracula, Bela Lugosi’s Dracula to be precise. The man is a horror icon and he set the standard for so many of the different vampires to follow. I mean, even Sesame Street has a character modeled after him! So, to kick off the month of October with a bang, I bid you welcome… as we discuss the 1931 classic, Dracula. They’ve joined us to battle werewolves and witches, so it’s only natural that they return to ward off vampires. Our guest hosts for this episode are charter members of the Werewolf Squad, Brian and Jessica. Give our guest hosts a follow as well!

| The Lost Boys | 24 Sep 2021 | 01:52:25 | |
Hey Scaredy Cats! I hope you’ve got the Frog Brothers number handy because for this episode, we’re traveling the vampire infested streets of Santa Clara. Yep, we’re talking about The Lost Boys, my friends, the movie that birthed the 7 movie, lifelong friendship of the Two Coreys. So, grab your holy water, your vampire survival guide and hop into Grandpa’s 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner Retractable Hardtop, we’re going after those mulleted bloodsuckers. Joining us to marvel over oily, muscle bound sax players and tackle the vampire scourge of Santa Clara, are Crystal and Rosemary. Give our guest hosts a follow as well! Crystal
| Suspiria | 10 Sep 2021 | 01:47:47 | |
We’re back, Scaredy Cats! It’s time to take on one of the most influential, but also weirdest horror movies of all time, Dario Argento’s 1977 classic, Suspiria. It was followed by Inferno in 1980 and The Mother of Tears in 2007. The three movies make up the “The Three Mothers” trilogy which tells the tale of the Mothers of Sorrow, three witches who wreak evil havoc on the world. The narrative of Suspiria is incidental; it’s the visuals and the score that make Suspiria the legend that it is. So, grab yourself some red wine, and sit back because this is going to be a wild ride. For this episode, the werewolf squad reunites, but this time it’s all about witches. You know that we're going to work some werewolf hijinks into the episode! Jessica Scott has written articles for Film Cred, Nightmarish Conjurings and Grim, has a podcast called Monster Books Podcast, and has a horror comics column on Daily Grindhouse. Brian Keiper is a regular contributor to Bloody Disgusting, Manor Vellum and Council of Zoom and co-host of the Movies for Life Podcast. Give our guest hosts a follow as well!

Join us in the Haunted Library as we chat with author Nat Segaloff about his latest book, The Exorcist Legacy: 50 Years of Fear. Segaloff's history with the film go way to the film's release when he worked publicity for the Boston theatre that screened it.
| Jurassic Park | 31 Jul 2021 | 02:13:12 | |
Hey Scaredy Cats! Picture it… summer 1993. A teenage girl takes her two younger brothers to see the movie that everyone is talking about. As the movie ends and the credits roll, that girl’s joy and awe at what she has just seen fades when she turns to see her youngest brother, then only eight, curled up in his seat, making himself as small as he can be, hands over his ears. The thought that passes through her head? “My parents are going to kill me.” That dissipates when the brother slowly turns his head, taking his hands away from his ears, and asks “Can we see that again??” In case you haven’t already guessed, that super cool big sister was me and that movie was Jurassic Park. Coming along for this thrill ride are return guest hosts, Matt and Katie and Scaredy Cat newbie, Taylor. Give our guest hosts a follow as well! Katie:
| Hereditary | 03 Jul 2021 | 02:13:56 | |
Hey Scaredy Cats. There are a handful of movies that I love that I have only watched once. Every single one of these movies had a dramatic effect on me. The Blair Witch Project, for instance, terrified me so much that until we covered it on the podcast, I had only seen it once before. The movie we’re about to discuss TRAUMATIZED me. That being said, I remember being so affected by it that I told one of my few horror loving friends that she needed to watch it. She then proceeded to tell me about the “stupidest movie” she had ever seen, but she couldn’t remember the name. I asked her to tell me about it… turns out, we were talking about the same movie. That movie? Hereditary.
Give our guest hosts a follow as well! Katie:
| 1BR | 18 Jun 2021 | 01:41:14 | |
Hey Scaredy Cats. Lately, I’ve been feeling like a move to warmer climes. Like so many folks, the draw of Los Angeles is STRONG. There’s an open house at this super cute apartment complex, so I think I’ll take my daddy issues and loneliness and check it out. I mean, I’ve heard that Los Angeles is home to a lot of nice inclusive communities that some may call cults. Hide your cats, get into a stress position and move into the apartment of your dreams, ahem, nightmares as we talk about 1BR. Moving into the complex with us are repeat guests Samantha and Matt.
| An American Werewolf In London | 03 Jun 2021 | 01:39:13 | |
Hey Scaredy Cats. In our last episode, we started our werewolf tour on the gritty streets of Los Angeles and the remote, rustic getaway known as the Colony. The tour continues as we travel to England, starting out on the mysterious moors before ending up in hustle and bustle of London. We may have talked about it just a bit in our episode on the Howling, but put on a pot of tea, grab your backpack and join us as we take on An American Werewolf In London. Jessica has written articles for Film Cred, Nightmarish Conjurings and Grim, has a podcast called Monster Books Podcast, and has a horror comics column on Daily Grindhouse. Brian Keiper is a regular contributor to Bloody Disgusting, Manor Vellum and Council of Zoom and co-host of the Movies for Life Podcast. Give our guest hosts a follow as well!
| The Howling | 22 May 2021 | 01:51:23 | |
Hey Scaredy Cats. The eighties were all about the werewolf movie. You had Teen Wolf, Full Moon High, Teen Wolf Too, The Company of Wolves, and Silver Bullet. There was one year that beat them all. With not one, but three werewolf movies coming out, 1981 was a banner year if you liked to howl at the moon. There was Howlen, An American Werewolf In London and the movie we’re going to talk about today, The Howling. Jessica has written articles for Film Cred, Nightmarish Conjurings and Grim, has a podcast called Monster Books Podcast, and has a horror comics column on Daily Grindhouse. Brian Keiper is a regular contributor to Bloody Disgusting, Manor Vellum and Council of Zoom and co-host of the Movies for Life Podcast. ive our guest hosts a follow as well!
| The Exorcist | 07 May 2021 | 01:51:14 | |
Hey Scaredy Cats. Once I got into horror, there was one movie that I purposely avoided watching because the sheer idea of it scared me. Once I finally got up the nerve to watch it, I was terrified. That movie? The Exorcist. The first horror film to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture, it was nominated for nine other Academy Awards, eventually winning Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Sound. It’s one of those movies that are rumoured to be cursed and when it was released in theatres, there were reports of heart attacks and miscarriages. On top of all of that, evangelist Billy Graham claimed a real demon lived in the celluloid reels of the movie. It’s a beautiful day for an exorcism, so join us as we fight the forces of evil. Joining us for this episode are some devilishly good guests! From the podcast, I Hate Your Taste in Movies, avowed non-horror fan Austin Lamarche. Brian Keiper is a regular contributor to Bloody Disgusting, Manor Vellum and Council of Zoom and co-host of the Movies for Life Podcast.
| The Slumber Party Massacre | 22 Apr 2021 | 02:20:00 | |
Hey Scaredy Cats. I hope you brought your sleeping bags and maybe some Doritos. Don’t worry about the latest news story about an escaped mass murderer on the loose. Wait… Did you hear that noise coming from the garage? It sounded like… a drill?? Ah, never mind. Grab a slice of pizza, maybe indulge in a little Maui Wowie and join the Slumber Party Massacre. Our slumber party guests, Jessica and Nick, really drill down into this subversive slasher classic!
| April Fool's Day | 26 Mar 2021 | 01:45:22 | |
Hey Scaredy Cats! In France, the movie we’re about to talk about was called Weekend of Terror. In Germany, it was titled The Horror Party. It has a cult following and has been compared to the storyline of the Agatha Christie novel, And Then There Were None. It’s a slasher unlike any other – with a distinct lack of on screen violence. I distinctly remember going into my neighbourhood video store and being drawn in by the awesome VHS cover… a woman has her back to the camera, her ponytail shaped into a noose as she holds a dagger behind her back. It is a masterpiece. Join us as we visit Muffy St John on her private island and see how the 1% live… it’s time to celebrate April Fool’s Day. Robin:
| Poltergeist | 11 Mar 2021 | 01:44:11 | |
Hey Scaredy Cats. The movie we’re about to cover was definitely one my sleep-deprived parents would never have let me watch. It’s spawned a few sequels, a remake and a tv series. The Chicago Film Critics Association ranked it as the 20th scariest film ever made. It also has a lot of tragedy surrounding it, leading some people to think it’s cursed. Add to that controversy over who ACTUALLY directed it and you’ve got yourself a legendary horror movie. It’s time to meet some noisy ghosts as we talk about Poltergeist. Joining us for this episode, we have Crystal, a veteran Scaredy Cat and Jon of Tale of the Manticore RPG podcast.
| Host | 25 Feb 2021 | 01:03:17 | |
Hey Scaredy Cats! It’s now been over a year since COVID-19 changed the world we live in. People have been physically isolated and had to find new ways to communicate and stay connected to family and friends. Zoom became a HUGE deal. One of the best things about movies, horror in particular, is the way that they can take current events and make them into a something remarkable. In this episode we’re going to talk about a movie that was shot entirely in quarantine. It’s a movie about social isolation and lockdown and damn, it is scary. It hit a lot of best of lists for 2020 and for good reason. Light your candles, visualize your circle and get ready to talk about Host. Joining us for this episode are Nik and Ariana – polar opposites when it comes to the topic of séances.
| Lake Mungo | 14 Feb 2023 | 01:55:00 | |
Hey Scaredy Cats. For the longest time, I had one movie on my to watch list that was my white whale. I had seen it lauded as one of the scariest movies ever and the best horror movie you’ve never seen. I was on the hunt. It wasn’t streaming anywhere in Canada and I had resigned myself to never seeing it. But then I saw an announcement on Twitter that it was being released on blu ray by Second Sight Films. So, of course, I preordered it and paid an obscene amount of money for a movie I had never watched, assuming that internet listicles were not lying to me and that it was indeed an incredible film. That film was Lake Mungo. And let me tell you that even though it was not what I was expecting, this 2008 Australian film had a huge impact on me. I’m your host Sherri and this is just your friendly reminder that as always there will be loads of spoilers, so if you haven’t seen the movie, go watch it! Otherwise, proceed at your own risk. Joining us today to talk about grief, guilt, and isolation are Derek and Jamie.

Galentine's Day is only the best day of the year (ok, second best, because, you know, Halloween), so we brought together some of our favourite ladies, Ariana, Crystal, Katie, and Rosemary for a Women in Horror Roundtable. It's like Lilith Fair, but with more blood and guts.

| 2020 Highlight Reel | 23 Jan 2021 | 01:09:57 | |
Hey Scaredy Cats! We're back! Normally, we take a horror movie, get some horror buffs to dissect it with us and break it down, every slash, every scream, every jump scare. For this episode, we’re going to do something a little different. Living through 2020 often felt like we were living through a horror movie. Despite all that was horrible and terrifying about 2020, there were some great things as well. With that in mind, I’m going to talk about my top 20 horror highlights of the year. It was a great year for horror, so it was a tough task! We will also be joined by the always delightful Ryan who will share his favourite reads of 2020.
| Black Christmas | 24 Dec 2020 | 02:24:23 | |
Hey Scaredy Cats! What movies are on your festive must-watch list? One of mine is White Christmas – I can’t get enough of it, no matter how many times I have seen it. Wait, that’s not a horror movie, you say? You’d be right, but the movie we’re about to cover with returning guest host Samantha and newbie Jessica has a title that is a cheeky reference to White Christmas. It’s also one of my holiday go-to’s and one of the progenitors of the slasher genre - try watching Halloween after this and tell me John Carpenter wasn't a huge fan. Grab some eggnog, turn on your Christmas lights and check your doors and windows. It’s Black Christmas.
| Krampus | 12 Dec 2020 | 01:48:40 | |
Hey Scaredy Cats! It’s that time of year when you better watch out, you better not cry… well, you probably know the rest. But during the festive season, there are other things to worry about than whether you’ve made the naughty or the nice list (maybe you’re like our guest hosts who are a little bit of column a, a little bit of column b, stuck in Santa Purgatory if you will). You do not want a visit from the horned figure known as Krampus or any of his evil little minions, so tune in as we talk about the holiday morality tale, Krampus!
| Tremors | 30 Nov 2020 | 01:20:48 | |

You'll learn about leg limits and good hair as we play a little bit of Six Degrees of and we discover that it's not only about Kevin Bacon.
| Halloween | 29 Oct 2020 | 02:23:15 | |
Hey Scaredy Cats. We’re going to talk about the film that launched a franchise, created an icon (or two), has been selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress, has been voted the fifth scariest film of all time by Entertainment Weekly, and has been included among the "1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die", edited by Steven Schneider. Light your jack o’lanterns, grab your popcorn, and settle in. It’s Halloween.

| Double Feature: Frankenstein and the Bride of Frankenstein | 01 Oct 2020 | 01:36:11 | |
Hey Scaredy Cats! Thanks for joining us as we kick off the spookiest month of the year with our awesome guest hosts, Jenn, Lauren and Matt. That’s right, it’s October and it’s going to be full of frights. In this episode, we’re going to tackle not one, but two classic horror movies from the nineteen thirties, but their lineage goes back even further. Picture it: Geneva, 1816. It’s been a rainy summer and a group of friends sit around a fire when one of them challenges the rest to each write a ghost story. One of these friends, a young woman of 19, is stumped, but instead becomes fascinated with the idea of a corpse being reanimated. And that, Scaredy Cats, is how Mary Shelley came up with idea behind one of horror’s greatest creatures, Frankenstein’s Monster. Frankenstein is featured in a whopping 73 movies – including the two that we will dissect tonight: Frankenstein released in 1931 and its sequel, Bride of Frankenstein, released in 1935.
| Scream 2 | 18 Sep 2020 | 01:43:08 | |

As part of our college adventures, we'll learn all about the rules of the sequel, the reason women don't live in sorority houses in Tennessee, and more about fashion and technology in the nineties. We're going to catch up with some old friends, Sidney, Randy, Gale, and Dewey. Are you ready? It's showtime and we're talking Scream 2. Joining us for this episode are Rosemary and Crystal because when you're doing a sequel, you need to have a reunion.
| The Final Girls | 26 Jan 2023 | 01:54:27 | |
Hey Scaredy Cats. Welcome back to the month of camp carnage. I know, I know, no one goes to camp in January, but when you’re stuck in the frozen tundra that is Ontario in the winter, you gotta do what you gotta do. As a kid growing up in the eighties, slashers were all the rage. Some of the first horror movies I saw were eighties slashers. So, I definitely have a soft spot for them and the more ridiculous the better. When I heard that there was a love letter to the subgenre with a soft marshmallow centre, I knew it was the kind of movie that I needed in my life. Did I mention that I listened to Bette Davis Eyes on repeat back in the day? Ok, so you couldn’t exactly listen to something on repeat back then. You had two options. You either made a tape with just that song on it OR you would take a couple of minutes, rewind and play again. But I digress. Let’s head to Camp Blue Finch and meet some new camp counsellors and the menacing killer who’s going to ruin all the sexy times and fun. It’s time to meet THE FINAL GIRLS. I’m your host Sherri and this is just your friendly reminder that as always there will be loads of spoilers, so if you haven’t seen the movie, go watch it! Otherwise, proceed at your own risk. Joining us today are Katie and Nick!
