| Episode 115: Bringing and retaining the right talent aboard “the organizational bus” – Frank Sofia | 27 Jun 2022 | 00:43:13 | |
In his book, Good to Great, Jim Collins emphasized the importance of “who” over “what” – by stating that “those who build great organizations make sure they have the right people on the bus and the right people in the key seats before they figure out where to drive the bus”.
But in today’s rapidly evolving corporate culture, underscored by gig economy, great resignation, hybrid workplaces, how do organizations go about navigating the selective talent pool, in order to bring the right people to the right seats?
To shed a light on this very topic, I am joined by Frank Sofia. He is the Head of Executive Talent Attraction for the Americas, across all markets and lines of business. Prior to his current role, Frank served as the VP of Strategic Workforce Planning for North America Sales.
Throughout his 16-year career at SAP Frank has challenged himself to take on new opportunities across HR functions to gain deep expertise in HR Strategy, Workforce planning, Recruiting, Change management and Organizational development. He is incredibly passionate about HR transformation and enabling others to achieve their goals.
Frank holds a Masters in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from West Chester University and a BA in Psychology from Temple University.

In case you are working in a tech corporate environment and you have not founded the company you are working in, chances are that you have an almost romantic view about the life and work of entrepreneurs. I met with one of those at the office of his company in Munich who pass on safe and frequent salary checks for the sake of freedom and being able to do their own thing. It is Stephan Odoerfer, who is founder and managing director of 4tiitoo a tech company that is leading in enabling computer operation via eye control and also a keynote speaker at this week ‘s virtual edition of the SAPNOW Switzerland. We talk about what it means to be an entrepreneur the qualities, habits and Best practices of successful ones and of course about eye control a technology that is about to revolutionize the way we humans interact fast efficient and in comfort with computers. | SAP Experts Podcast Episode 23: The Future of Digital Supply Chain Management | 01 Mar 2020 | 00:37:40
Around Christmas I sat together with Hans Thalbauer the SAP Senior Vice President responsible for Digital Supply Chain Management and Internet of Things and we had a conversation about what can we can expect logistically out of 2020 and what requirements possible events in 2020 could have on setup, performance and flexibility. We talked about how political events, natural disasters and pandemies are affecting the global supply chains and the business of enterprises. And what is happening now: Dow Jones crashed last Thursday down 1.200 points, as much as never before as the Corona Virus Outbreak interrupts business, global sourcing, selling and travel. It shows us, how vulnerable our global supply chains have become and how flexible, transparent and agile companies have to be in the 21st centuries to act and react on these kinds of distruptive events. Listen to Hans Thalbauer outlining what capabilities modern Supply Chains need and how performance levels can be achieved that enable you to cope with todays turmoils. | SAP Experts Podcast Episode 22: Are You Experienced? | 23 Feb 2020 | 01:13:09
Today’s guest is promising fun for several reasons: “Radio Personality become Customer Experience Expert" Steven Spears, who is Global Program Manager for SAP CX and also uses his skill from his former being as a radio star to create and host the "Future of Customer Engagement & Experience Podcast”. So what we did was to do something new. You can surely find a lot of interesting podcast resources covering the topic of experience management in a very competent way. But Steve and I dialed up once late evening, opened a beer and talked about the sometimes very abstract topic of Experience Management being two guys with flesh and blood, a language that you surely will understand and will help you to demystify the world of Experience Management. Buckle up for a “bit different” episode full of personal insights, storytelling, information and lot of laughs, because that’s what’s going to happen on Episode 22 of the SAP Experts Podcast. | SAP Experts Podcast Episode 20: Give Data Purpose! | 26 Jan 2020 | 00:31:54
Ten years ago, the highest valued companies had names like ExxonMobil, PetroChina, Petrobras and Royal Dutch Shell, 2020, things look bit different with names taking a prominent spot on the list that nobody thought about in 2010: Alphabet/Google, Facebook, Tencent, Amazon and Alibaba. Companies that don’t see their economic purpose in digging for oil. They are digging for data, which is the oil of the 21st century. I am pleased to welcome Dirk Häussermann, who is Senior Vice President and Head of Platform and Technologies at SAP. 2020 is going to be a very exciting year as many digitalization initiatives across all industries are full steam ahead. Before we go into Christmas break, we have not one guest but two guests for you. And second, it’s great to have Mr. Jan Gilg who was responsible for the other extreme: The internal S/4HANA implementation at SAP. Additionally, Jan is now as Senior Vice President directly responsible for any S/4HANA related development, and reports directly to the board, so we will get very interesting insights about our Cloud and future S/4HANA strategy. Furthermore, this episode is where we end for 2019, because I will go now into the Christmas break. | SAP Experts Podcast 15: The World of Analytics | 08 Dec 2019 | 00:51:40
Lately there was some interesting story in tech news. For the third year in a row, the board of a Californian giant in the world of enterprise applications rejected a shareholder proposal for the company to release data about how much women are paid at the company relative to men. While many tech companies incl. SAP have provided disclosures around gender pay equity issues and committed to closing pay gaps, this one tech company has continued to refuse to do so because, as they stated, it would be “costly and time consuming!”. That is quite astonishing because, if this company misses the data transparence to dig this information quickly and cost-effective, they need the capabilities of SAP’s analytics portfolio and today’s guest definitely could help. Mr. Mohamed Abdel Hadi, Vice President for Product Management Analytics at SAP will give us his personal spin and his insights into the world of analytics. | SAP Experts Podcast Episode 12: Tangible Innovation | 10 Nov 2019 | 00:48:25
Basically, turning people’s heads by talking about innovation is easy. Invent some fancy title for yourself which should ideally contain the words “Innovation”, “Digitalisation” or in the best case “Alchemist” and, very important, dress up like a hipster. That adds credibility. Then you look up youtube for the latest TED Talks and you will be able to reel off the fancy inventions and cloud castle and hope the whole linkedin community will cheer for you. Well, unfortunately at times it happens to be like that and that’s not good because it takes the substance out of the topic since you forget the most important aspect how true innovation at the customer can be ignited. It should be individual, approachable and tangible. If your inno cases do not touch the individual situation and strategy of the customer, you failed. And you are doing more harm than help. So lets bring the substance back and put an emphasis on the aspect of tangibility. That’s why I invited somebody who does not only talk about innovation, but also takes care that it is sparked, realized and implemented at awesome customers like Porsche Motorsport. He makes his hands dirty he is Mr. Timo Deiner, the “Innovation Guy”. Here, at the SAP Experts Podcast So please like, share and subscribe! | SAP Experts Podcast Episode 11: The X (Data) Files | 03 Nov 2019 | 00:40:31
If you have not yet gotten the message that SAP has now something with an X, or Experience Data, you probably live behind the moon. So it is quite obvious that the experience topic has a big strategic relevance for SAP, and that’s not because we want it to be like that, but because winning in the 21st century means adapting to an experience economy where customer centric processes and the emotional connection of your customer to your products should not only be of utter importance for you, it should guide your strategic decisions. But this topic is not only about customers attitude towards you and your products, but also how your employees think about you. So if your best horse quits its job you should not be caught surprised anymore. But we do not want to do an X+O pitch here, we want to tackle the topic a level deeper so I met with Christine Fischer, whose job as Vice President and Head of Business Development is to run that topic and the integration of X+0 in Europe, so she is the right person to give us a 360 degree overview. We will talk not only about the strategic implications of X Data, but also where we are as SAP in that respect and what the SAP community can expect in the coming months. | SAP Experts Podcast Episode 10: Build your case for S/4HANA | 20 Oct 2019 | 00:40:56
If you remember Episode 8 of our podcast series featuring the right approach to S/4HANA, Uwe Grigoleit told about the Viessmann case. Viessmann, an international manufacturer heating, industrial and refrigeration systems, had a quite clear case to move to S/4HANA. Inventory savings in two-digit millions as a result of an ERP transformation to S/4HANA made the path for a fast decision to do the Move. But of course, not in all cases, it is easy as that. Imagine a typical approach to S/4HANA. While pitches mostly cover the general benefits, which is ok for a first approach, you have to second that with an individual option. The customer wants to know what’s in for him individually and that’s where an answer within modern process architectures of the 21st century is not so easily given when manually approached. It’s all about questions on which you could spent months. That’s why SAP offers you intelligent tools that do that work for you. And today I am very pleased to have the man here in Walldorf whose team is behind those great tools like the Business Scenario Recommendations Report and the Pathfinder, Mr. Wassilios Lolas who is as Vice President and Global Head of Customer Value Experience responsible for smoothening your path to become an intelligent enterprise. | SAP Experts Podcast Episode 8: Spinoff | 13 Oct 2019 | 00:32:07
Welcome to the SAP Experts Podcast -Spinoff. With this episode I want to introduce and add an new label and a little bit different piece and format to the SAP Experts Podcast which will co- exist with the future episodes of the classic format that you already and hopefully love by now. The reason: We at SAP have many different Podcasts which differ a lot in format, style, content and length. Many of them are purely internal podcasts, that are not available to the public. But from time to time, those internal podcasts generate episodes where it would be a shame to keep them internal because they would be certainly also interesting for public audiences. One of those internal Podcasts that generate such episodes is “The Cast” by Mike Fecek. Mike is Global Director for Presales Solutions at SAP and his Supply Chain Solution Hub consists of product and industry experts that develop cutting edge solutions for any SAP customer that earns his or her money by actually producing or moving things. So with this I want to give Mike and his colleagues a platform to publish interesting content from their pool, while the Experts Podcast episodes you are used to will of course continue to be released as usual. Since the cast consists of episodes which are a bit shorter in duration than what you are used from me, we packed two Cast episodes back to back into this format, starting with “Project Intelligence Network” before Mike will talk about “Predicting Asset Health and avoiding failure”. Great stuff you don’t want to miss. So I will hand the stage of this episode over to Mike Fecek and “The Cast”. Here at the SAP Experts Podcast “Spinoff”. Please like, share and subscribe! “SAP S/4HANA is the biggest transformation project in our 110 years company history” – a quote that describes the significance of the change in the company of my today’s guest.
Michael Hilzinger joined me and gave insights on his approach to transform to SAP S/4 HANA. Michael is CIO at the German manufacturer Knorr-Bremse. 110 years ago, they drastically improved the safety of trains by providing brakes and removing the so called “brake vans”, a manually operated braking system.
We spoke about the analogy from back then with a modern SAP S/4HANA system, the role and factors of change management in such a huge transformation and why it’s helpful to improve incrementally instead of a big bang move.

| Episode 104: Does Transformation require Business Involvement? – Johannes Langguth | 14 Mar 2022 | 00:52:25 | |
A fresh coffee and a new guest: welcome to the SAP Experts Podcast! Today I am in conversation with my manager, Johannes Langguth. He is Vice President in the Cloud Transformation and Architecture Office in the MEE region at SAP. And we discuss if bringing business onboard is always required for transformation in a company? Should enterprise IT be reactive or is it easier to be proactive?
What if IT becomes an internal platform provider and turns from a cost center to a profit center? What are possible starting points for a transformation? Is an MVP which solves one specific challenge a good start to gain trust? Or is a “top down” approach by modernizing the whole IT landscape a first step to jumpstart transformation more from a strategic perspective?
Lots of questions – and you will find the answers in this episode. My name is Timo Deiner and you are listening to SAP Experts Podcast.
