If you are thinking about a first ultra marathon or marathon this is the podcast for you. Running 44@60 began as a motivational and educational tool to help host Trevor Lee celebrate in 2021 a landmark birthday by running his first ultra marathon - the 44 mile Classic Quarter on the Cornish coastal path from Lizard Village to Lands End.

The run was completed and the podcast has evolved and features runners and running specialists offering tips and advice from training to nutrition via race planning, kit, etc…

Most episodes are around 25 minutes of fast paced, energising and inspiring tips, advice and ideas.

Thank you and goodnight

Saison 1 · Épisode 173

vendredi 31 janvier 2025Durée 30:02

If you’re wondering why this episode is called thank you and good night it is because it is the final episode.

I’ve had an absolute fantastic time. I’ve met some incredible people hosting this podcast since it first started in August 2019 not just as guests but as listeners and also at all the runs I've taken part in.

It was only meant to help me complete the Classic Quarter which I did in May 2021 so it should’ve finished over 3 1/2 years ago .

But here we are at episode number 173 and of course it was almost by sheer chance that this whole journey started.

Back in February 2019 I was invited to speak at a business conference. The headline speaker was a guy called Jim Lawless who talked about a concept he had created called TamingTigers which essentially was about setting yourself challenges way beyond your comfort zone.

Whilst listening to Jim, I was conscious that I was just over two years away from a landmark birthday for which I had been thinking about running a third career marathon, the previous two being in 2005 and 2010. Listening to Jim I realised that wasn’t a Taming Tigers enough challenge.

For some reason the name Classic Quarter popped up into my head and I looked it up over lunchtime to discover that it was a coastal path run from Lizard Point, which is relatively close to where I was living when my children were growing up, to Lands End. Undoubtedly the Taming Tigers bit was discovering it was 44 miles!

I started calling the challenge 44 at 60 and as I already had a business podcast I decided that the best way to learn how to take on this challenge was to start a podcast so I could record all the great advice I knew I would be given.

The first episode which was basically an introduction episode went live in August 2019, with episode two being my first ever coastal path race -  the White Rat. My first guest was the fabulous Andy Goundry who told me ultrarunning was an eating competition not a running competition and to make sure that I walked up all the hills in the race, but to run up all of them in training and keep smiling!

Without doubt this podcast was a massive factor in achieving my goal of finishing the Classic Quarter and along the way raising over £7000 for the children’s hospice Southwest and postrace writing the book 12 business lessons from running an ultra marathon.

So many fantastic guests, so many great running adventures and so many great running community friends. I feel very privileged to have been able to do this.

Thank you everyone - it's been a blast!

Arc 50 - what happened - 6 runners tell all

Saison 1 · Épisode 172

lundi 27 janvier 2025Durée 01:06:22

So here we are recording on Monday January 27th - 2 days after the Arc 50

So what happened to our group - Richard, Anya, Himani, Tom, Nicky and Matt?

Each has a story to tell

Some made it

Some didn’t

What would they all do differently?

And what are they doing next?

It has been fantastic being part of this group - behind the scenes the What’s app group the 7 of us are part of has been virtually every day for the past 2.5 months full of encouragement, support, advice and help.

And most of us met in person for the first time at either Friday registration or at 5am on the Saturday in the barn at HQ waiting for the coaches to the Minack

I ran my first, and so far only completed, ultra marathon in 2021 - the 44 mile Classic Quarter - to celebrate a landmark birthday which was a few weeks before the run.

This podcast started as a way of me learning how to do that - hence why it’s called Running 44@60. The adventure then turned into a book and as a business consultant it became both a business and running book and is available on Amazon via this link: 12 Business Lessons from Running an Ultra Marathon.

My run raised over £7000 for Childrens Hospice South West Music Therapy programme and every book bought on Amazon generates another £5 for the programme.

Rachel Thomson’s Landmark Birthday Challenges

Saison 1 · Épisode 163

lundi 2 décembre 2024Durée 30:33

To celebrate a landmark birthday in 2024 Rachel Thomson tackled a series of running events throughout the year whilst raising money for St Petrocs, the Cornwall Homeless Charity. The website provides information on how you can donate - including all those running hoodies you never wear.

So how did all go?

We catch up on the four events that became five when Rachel added the November Cornish Marathon to her challenges.

Rachel’s fundraising finishes at the start of 2025 so you still have time to support her via her Local Giving page.

The five challenges Rachel undertook:

April 21st - London Marathon - Rachel wore a bright yellow St Petrocs top and had a fabulous day out.

June 14th - Scilly 60% - 38 km over four of the Isles of Scilly: St Martins, Tresco, Bryher, St Agnes - if you miss the cut off on any stage you literally miss the boat to the next stage. Did Rachel make the cut offs?

Aug 2nd 7pm start  - The BOYD (Bring Out Your Dead) - 24 hours of running a 5 mile loop which includes 500 steps. If you stop at any point for more than 10 minutes you're out! Rachel tells how a rogue piece of wood with nails didn't help.

Sept 14th - The Woods - 12 hours of a 4 mile loop in Tehidy Woods. One of Rachel's favourites.

Nov 3rd - The Cornish Marathon - 26.2 miles through mid/east Cornwall

Newport Marathon - on the run recording

Saison 1 · Épisode 73

lundi 25 octobre 2021Durée 23:08

The Newport Marathon claims to be one of the flattest marathons around and offers great opportunities for PB's – well I can certain events for the flat bit and I did get within 15 minutes of a PB but there were also 16 years in between so that was quite a challenge!
Most of the recording of this podcast took place whilst I was actually running so you get a feel for not just the course but the atmosphere around it and I have to say the marshals and aid station volunteers were absolutely magnificent.
If you are tempted here is the link: Newport Marathon
And if you want to send me one or two minute voicemail clip describing your plans further 2022 then please do so before the middle of November so I can include them in a future episode. Simply email your voice memo to trevor@trevorleemedia.co.uk

London Marathon 2021 - 7 runners share their experiences and top tips

Saison 1 · Épisode 72

Big thanks to Helen, Claire, Jim, Katie, Ben, Lia and Matt sharing their experiences of running the 2021 London Marathon. For Helen this was a journey that began just over two years ago as a complete non-runner whilst for Claire it was a PB and another good for age time and a PB for Katie who knitted 250 hats in order to raise money to be on the start line.
This episode is all about inspiring you as a potential marathon runner to set yourself a target running a marathon in 2022 wherever that might be.
Tips include enjoying the day, not taking a week of work prior to the run and having your name displayed on your shirt.
