Building a Healthier Culture Through Food & Lifestyle | Dr. Achyuthan Eswar19 Apr 202600:26:06

What does it take to move from individual habits… to collective change?

In this episode of Rooted by Arpitharai, I continue my conversation with Dr. Achyuthan Eswar — a Yoga and Naturopathy physician and co-founder of PHC Lifestyle Clinic and Sampoorna Ahara.

In our previous conversation, we explored his personal journey and philosophy around lifestyle medicine.
In this episode, we widen the lens.

We talk about building systems that support healthier living — making nutritious food accessible, working with corporate environments, and addressing the realities of stress, irregular routines, and modern lifestyles.

This conversation also touches on something larger — the connection between what we eat and the health of our planet.

We explore:
• Building PHC Lifestyle Clinic and the need for lifestyle-focused healthcare
• Sampoorna Ahara and making whole food plant-based eating accessible
• Challenges people face while changing habits
• Health in corporate environments and simple daily practices
• The link between food choices and climate responsibility
• Reflections on the future of health culture in India

This is not just about food.
It’s about awareness, systems, and the small shifts that ripple outward.

If this conversation resonates, I’d love to hear your reflections in the comments.

Healing Begins at Home: Rethinking Health, Habits & Responsibility | Dr. Achyuthan Eswar05 Apr 202600:33:16

There are moments in life that quietly change the direction we take.

In this episode of Rooted by Arpitharai, I sit down with Dr. Achyuthan Eswar — a Yoga and Naturopathy physician and co-founder of PHC Lifestyle Clinic and Sampoorna Ahara.

We begin with a deeply personal story — how his grandparents reversed diabetes, hypertension, and obesity in just ten days through lifestyle changes — and how that moment shaped his path.

From there, this conversation gently opens up into what it really means to take responsibility for our own health.

Not through extremes… but through simple, consistent daily choices.

We talk about:
• Lifestyle as medicine
• Balancing ancient wisdom and modern science
• What “Be Your Own Doc” really means
• The connection between everyday habits and long-term health
• And how even our clothing choices can play a role in how we feel

This is not a conversation about quick fixes.
It’s about slowing down… observing… and reconnecting with the basics.

Part two of this conversation will explore his work, impact, and the larger systems he’s building.

If something in this conversation resonates with you, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

Why Choosing Repair Over Replacement Changed the Way I Live at Home22 Feb 202600:08:51

When we talk about sustainable living, we often talk about clothes or shopping. But sustainability also lives inside our homes — in the way we repair, replace, pause, and decide. In this episode of Rooted Reflections, I share a simple moment from my life — choosing to repair a mixer grinder instead of buying a new one — and how that choice reflected a deeper shift in my mindset. It’s not about saving money. It’s about reducing waste, plastic, energy, and unnecessary production.I also talk about how these quiet choices influence family members, how not everyone needs to agree, and how living calmly with your values slowly changes the atmosphere of your home. This conversation is not about rules or perfection. It's about ease, awareness, and choosing thoughtfully—one small decision at a time.If you’re trying to live more mindfully and sometimes feel misunderstood at home, this reflection is for you.

Upcycling: The First Thought Before Tossing Anything15 Feb 202600:08:44

People often ask me, “Why not just buy new? Isn’t it easier?”
And I understand that question — I used to think the same way.

In this Rooted Reflection, I talk about why upcycling feels different to me. Not as a rule or restriction, but as a choice that slowly started making sense — emotionally, environmentally, and practically.

Every time we upcycle a garment, we save water, energy, and chemicals that would otherwise go into producing something new. We keep clothes from ending up in landfills simply because they feel outdated or forgotten. But beyond the impact numbers, there’s something quieter that happens.

Upcycling brings a slow, deeply satisfying kind of joy.
The joy of pausing. Of looking at what already exists. Of allowing a garment to evolve instead of discarding it.

I also share the philosophy behind Second Time by Arpitharai — an upcycled clothing brand where I work with preloved garments from people’s own wardrobes, helping them find a new form without erasing their story.

This episode is not about doing more.
It’s about seeing differently.

And about choosing care — for our clothes, our planet, and ourselves.

If this reflection resonates, I’d love for you to listen, sit with it, and maybe look at your wardrobe a little differently today.

0:00 - 0:33 Do we think what else can our old garment can be?

0:33 - 1:14 What if your first thought be Upcycling?

1:14 - 1:26 Intro

1:24 - 2:01 How many new lives can I give this old fabric?

2:01 - 2:23 Garments can transform into new products

2:20 - 2:47 It’s not always perfect

2:47 - 3:56 My daughter doesn’t want to buy new clothes

3:56 - 4:46 It’s ok to buy new and let go of old

4:46 - 6:10 Why go through all this?

6:10 - 6:46 My Brand ‘Second Time’

6:42 - 7:24 Buying new will reduce on it’s own

7:24 - 7:52 Noticing possibilities everywhere

7:52 - 8:20 What’s one thing that you see only as old or unused?

8:20 - 8:43 Let’s take these thoughts forward

How a Minimal Lifestyle Made My Life Lighter and Easier08 Feb 202600:07:34

Living with less doesn’t mean missing out.

In this week’s Rooted Reflections, I share my thoughts on minimal living — how letting go of things, routines, and expectations quietly opens up space for ease, clarity, and joy.

From household items to wardrobe pieces, I ask myself: Did I use this in the last six months? Items I no longer use are either passed on, or in the case of clothes, saved for upcycling.

I even noticed my daughter asking the same question — and I feel quietly happy that she’s learning some of these lessons through my approach.

Minimalism isn’t emptiness. It’s breathing space. It’s freedom. It’s noticing what truly matters.

Take a pause and see what space could open in your life today.

Sustainable Fashion & Women's Empowerment | In Conversation With Charlotte07 May 202300:53:36

In today's conversation meet Charlotte, Co-founder of Mewar Collective. We spoke about fast fashion, sustainable fashion, how the fabric colours affect our environment, how she is working on women's empowerment and many more. Charlotte grew up and studied in France. She is currently based in Trivandrum, South India, as part of the Kanthari program, a leadership program for social change makers.Just before the pandemic, she made a trip to India that changed a lot of perspectives for her. Thanks to it, she met a lady who inspired her to start making and creating things, without any idea how things would turn up.She has learned numerous skills that she didn't learn from office work before and accepted a lot of things about herself. Her ethical eco-friendly clothing brand Bindoo represents efforts, dreams, engagements, and teamwork.~~~~~~~~

Sustainable Fashion: When we use fabrics that are nature-friendly, and long-lasting it will be called #sustainablefashion When we use our old sarees, and garments to create a new outfit from them, that will also be called sustainable fashion. When we prefer #sustainablefashion or eco-friendly fashion, we save nature from synthetic, plastic, or harmful materials. Let us go more towards #sustainablefashion than fast fashion. Let us consume less to save the nature around us. in turn, save ourselves.

Sustainable Denim & Deep Industrial Insights | In Conversation With Radhika Machetti30 Apr 202300:31:58

Every time we buy a new  pair of jeans, it's like turning on your shower and letting the water run down the drain for 21 hours. According to United Nations, 10,000 litres of water is required to grow just the one kilo of cotton needed for the pair of jeans. In comparison, one person would take 10 years to drink 10,000 litres of water.Let's discuss how denim adds to the environmental crisis in today's conversation with Radhika Machetti.

How I Replace Clothes Now (Not Quickly, Not Guilt-Driven)01 Feb 202600:10:16

Sometimes, our wardrobe has more to tell us than we realise.

In this week’s Rooted Reflections, I sit with my relationship to clothes — how I decide what to keep, what to let go, and when to bring something new in.

From old favourites waiting for upcycling, to jeans I finally bought after 7–8 years, and even how my daughter now wears some of my old pieces… it’s all about slowing down, listening, and making choices that feel gentle on ourselves and the planet.

No rules. No judgment. Just reflections from my life that I hope might sit quietly with yours.

Take a slow pause and listen.

#RootedReflections #SlowFashion #SustainableWardrobe #UpcyclingClothes #MindfulLiving

Best Circular Fashion Tips For Circular Economy27 Sep 202100:05:42

The circular economy is a strategy to maintain the value of the material as long as possible. In today's video, I am going to explain to you about circular fashion. The circular economy minimizes the waste and resources used. It is an alternative to the current mindset of taking things, using them and throwing them away.

Sustainable Fashion: When we use fabrics that are nature-friendly, long-lasting it will be called #sustainablefashion When we use our old sarees, garments to create a new outfit from them, that will also be called sustainable fashion. Why You Must Stop Donating Clothes | Fast Fashion Waste13 Sep 202100:09:01

Why do you think one must stop donating clothes? Why do you think one should quit fast fashion? Do you know where your donated clothes actually go? If you want to know the truth about your donated clothes, then this video is a must-watch.

Do you know where your donated clothes are ending up? No one talks much about the donated clothes. We feel so satisfied after donating the clothes. But we never think about them after that. The media doesn't share any information about the donated clothes.

Always follow ethical, slow, sustainable fashion. Recycle, re-use, and re-wear your clothes for a better fashion future. Everything is in our hands. We have the power. Let me share some thoughts on that.

Sustainable Fashion: When we use fabrics that are nature-friendly, long-lasting it will be called #sustainablefashion When we use our old sarees, garments to create a new outfit from them, that will also be called sustainable fashion. Sustainable Way To Wear A Dress For Many Years16 Aug 202100:10:30

I prefer clothes that have a story behind them. This dress's story goes way back to the time when I was 3-4 years old. I wore it in many different ways. I teamed the dress with a Denim Jacket and sneakers. It was super comfy to go around the places and it looks stylish too. I tucked it into a lehenga to make it look like a top for one of the lookbook videos.

Sustainability is in how you keep your existing clothes. I kept this dress for so many years. We keep our silk sarees for so many years why not our regular clothes? It is super sustainable!!!

Sustainable Fashion: When we use fabrics that are nature-friendly, long-lasting it will be called #sustainablefashion When we use our old sarees, garments to create a new outfit from them, that will also be called sustainable fashion. When we prefer #sustainablefashion or eco-friendly fashion, we save nature from synthetic, plastic, or harmful materials. Let us go more towards #sustainablefashion than fast fashion.
