Non Boring History - an interview with Annette Laing.
Saison 1 · Épisode 9
mardi 22 novembre 2022 • Durée 39:05
Many find history boring. The reality, though, is that it has been the way it was taught to them rather than the subject. There is much to learn from history and people's lives throughout the ages. My guest today is Annette Laing, author of Non-Boring History, a blog which does what it says in the title. I recommend you take a look at Annette's blog and enjoy her explanation of history. You can either be a FREE or paid subscriber, I chose to become a paid one, and it's only a modest amount to help her cover the costs.
Annette also has a website where you can find out more about her and her work.
Don't forget to subscribe to my blog, Roland's Travels and join me on my journeys and the search for interesting places and history.
I also have a Roland's Travels YouTube Channel, please take a look today.

Where does the name of your town come from?
Saison 1 · Épisode 7
jeudi 20 octobre 2022 • Durée 22:47
Every town, village or area of land has a name. The history behind these names is fascinating and can tell us a lot about the past. Do you know why the place you live has the name that it has?
Our guest in this episode is Anthony Poulton-Smith, a prolific author and expert on the names of England's towns and villages. Tune in and learn how names developed and why we have no idea why London is called London! But we do know about Windsor.
For more information please visit Anthony's website.
