26 October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month21 Oct 202400:49:34

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, also referred to as Intimate Partner Violence, which serves as a call to action to end domestic violence in our communities. This awareness campaign is designed to educate, destigmatize, and empower survivors. We stand with survivors and are committed to ensuring they are safely housed and provided necessary support to maintain their housing. On today’s episode, we will first be speaking with Kascha, HVAF’s therapist. She will share more about knowing the signs or red flags of domestic violence and how to ask for help. Then, we will talk with Andrea, who is HVAF’s Community Engagement Coordinator. She has lived experience to share, and talks more about destigmatizing this important topic. We are proud of Andrea’s bravery in sharing her story, and passion to use her experience to help others.

17 Meet Indiana Representative Renee Pack03 Jun 202400:22:33

A few episodes ago, I shared about our legislative efforts to try to make it illegal for landlords to deny veterans using vouchers for their housing. 25 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month07 Oct 202401:14:18

It’s October, which means it’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month. According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, 1 in 8 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. So chances are, you know at least one person who has been personally affected by breast cancer. But there is hope. The National Breast Cancer Foundation says when caught in its earliest, localized stages, the 5-year relative survival rate is 99%. Advances in early detection and treatment methods have significantly increased breast cancer survival rates in recent years, and there are currently over 3.8 million breast cancer survivors in the United States. And today on Roger That, you are going to hear from one of those 3.8 million survivors. Army veteran, Nicki, who has received help from HVAF, was diagnosed in 2021 but thankfully, is now a survivor! You will also hear from her case manager, Cherelle, who helped her during her battle and is still helping her with everything she needs today.

TRAILER: Introducing Roger That02 Jul 202300:00:48

Since 1993, HVAF has provided wrap-around services to help veterans and their families become self-sufficient. 30 years later, we are now excited to announce our latest project: Roger That – a podcast presented by HVAF.

Join us as we discuss how HVAF is ending veteran homelessness and how you can join us in our mission. We’ll be having conversations with community partners, staff members, and even some of the veterans we serve!

Each year, HVAF is proud to provide over 30,000 services to 1200+ veterans! The mission is working, but there are still many homeless & at-risk veterans who need our help. We hope sharing more of our story with supporters like you can shine a light and give a voice to this vulnerable population.

Because no hero should ever be homeless. Find out more about HVAF: hvaf.org and follow us on social media: @hvafofindiana

24 2024 PIT Count Results16 Sep 202400:36:32

In today’s episode of Roger That, I’m sharing with you all more about CHIP – which stands for Coalition of Homelessness Intervention and Prevention. CHIP mobilizes, advocates, and empowers community collaboration toward ending homelessness and fosters an effective system of homelessness prevention and intervention in the greater Indianapolis area. One effort CHIP leads is the Point In Time Count – also known as the PIT Count. The PIT Count is an annual survey of homeless people in the United States conducted by local agencies called Continuums of Care on behalf of the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. This count also includes counting how many of the homeless are veterans – which is where HVAF comes in. So today, we are going to be talking all things CHIP and PIT Count with who better than CHIP’s Executive Director, Dr. Chelsea Haring-Cozzi.

23 Meet Gleaners CEO Fred Glass02 Sep 202400:29:24

HVAF’s food, clothing, and hygiene pantry is open for veterans on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM. Before COVID, we were seeing around 100 veterans per month. Now, we’re seeing more than double, with a record high in July of 258 veterans. As we see an increase in visits, donations to our pantry are more critical than ever before. Thankfully, we have many partners around the community that help us stock the pantry. One of them is Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana, who helps keep our shelves full of essential food items. Today on Roger That, you will meet Gleaners CEO Fred Glass. Fred became the president and CEO of in 2022, and it’s the largest food bank in Indiana and part of the national Feeding America Network.
