My name is Matt Keck, and for 11 years I worked on the Wendy's Account at VML. I'm the Wendy's Twitter Guy. I'm not the only person who ever tweeted, or ran the account, but I am THE guy. From starting tweeting on the old Baconator account, to the rap battle with Wingstop and the mixtape Webeefin?, to Wendy's smashing the Durrr Burger in Fortnite, to National Roast Day. I wasn't just there for it all, I did it all with my amazing team. So let's talk about the strategy, the roasts, the incredible adventures, the hundreds of awards, and the tweets that got away. In this last little nugget I talk about Wendy's Facebook and the crazy boomer memes, the Wendy's TableTop RPG (like dungeons and dragons) FEAST OF LEGENDS, and the importance of getting credit for your creative work. Wendy's changed the game of social media forever with how they used Twitter, but eventually every other brand followed suit. So, we changed the game again by being the first brand to go live on Twitch. Fortnite was holding a Food Fight event that pit Team Burger against Team Pizza. Why was Wendy's #TeamPizza? Because the Durrr Burger was freezing their beef, and that's no bueno in Wendy's book. (Dave's Way) I'm Matt Keck, the guy who just ran Wendy's Twitter for nearly a decade, and I'm also going to talk about the fickle nature of agencies, awards, and corporate hierarchies, and also Wendy's Spicy Chicken Nuggets and whether or not Chance the Rapper REALLY brought them back. Shout to Cannes Lion for all the statues I didn't get to keep.

You've heard all about the savage replies from the brand account, and now is your chance to get a tweet from the queen of heat. Also talk just a little bit about our time in Horizon Worlds in the Meta Quest building our branded worlds the WendyVerse. I didn't mention it on the episode but we got to go to TwitchCon with it, and Megan Thee Stallion twerked on Master Chief at the Padres Stadium while I watched in a suite with Jake from State Farm. That whole sentence is true but it sounds like a damn Mad Libs.

We took the Wendy's Twitter voice off the platform and put out a mixtape. After getting into a clapback rap battle with Wingstop it was only a matter of time before Wendy's drop its chart topping album. This led to my first trip to Cannes and the first gold lions. We talk about the backward nature of corporate structure and the way those doing the real work get left out to dry while the industry spends on unnecessary extravagance, and we also talk about how fun it is lol

After the first explosion of attention crashed down on the Wendy's Twitter account, one kid arrived in the wake looking for a year's supply of chicken nuggets. That kid, Carter Wilkerson, better known to the World as #NuggsForCarter. This curly haired high school student would come out of nowhere and dethrone Ellen's Oscar selfie as the most retweeted tweet of all time. A tweet about chicken nuggets. He also ends up in a Katy Perry music video, but we'll talk about that.
