| 104. From Aging Out to Rising Up: Lyric’s Story | 13 oct. 2025 | 01:00:38 | |
In today’s episode, we sit down with Lyric, a former foster youth whose story is a powerful testimony of resilience, faith, and transformation. Lyric grew up in and out of foster care, navigating kinship placements, residential care, and multiple foster homes after the loss of her mom. Along the way, she experienced the heartbreak of instability, the pain of losing people she loved, including a foster mom she was very close to who became sick, and the fear of abandonment that shaped much of her journey. Through all of this, Lyric wrestled deeply with her faith. After aging out of foster care at 18, she moved into an apartment through the Bridges program, but found herself lost and scared on her own. Eventually, she got connected to Hope Bridge, who helped her transition into a safer, more stable apartment and began building a supportive relationship with her from there. Her journey hasn’t been easy, marked by self-sabotage and seasons of heartbreaking loss, but it has led her to a place of restoration and purpose. Today, Lyric is thriving. In just six months, she has been baptized, graduated, moved into a new apartment, got her license and her first car, and started college to pursue a nursing degree—all while working and growing in her faith. Her story reflects the goodness of God and the truth that healing is possible. At Hope Bridge, we are committed to walking alongside young men and women like Lyric as they transition into adulthood. We’re launching Elev8:28, a new connect group for aged-out youth, and hosting Thanksgiving Together at the Compassion Center this year. Learn more, volunteer, or give by checking out the links below.

Every July, our team takes a step back to look at where we’ve been and where we’re headed. This year, that meeting didn’t quite go the way we expected. We realized something important; our growth and referrals were outpacing what our staff could realistically handle. That made us stop and ask: How can we invite more people to come alongside us in this work. That’s where The Bridge comes in. It’s a new software we’re launching that makes it super simple to get connected. Think of it as a hub where real needs get posted, and you can jump in to help meet them. Churches, organizations, and social workers can share needs, and volunteers can step up. If you’ve ever thought, “I’d love to help, I just don’t know how,” this is your chance. The Bridge is all about connecting people who want to serve with people who need support. We’re really excited about this, and we’d love for you to join us. | 96. Spiritual Formation: The Practice of Solitude | 18 août 2025 | 00:36:45
We’re back with another episode in our Spiritual Formation series, and this time we’re exploring the quiet, but powerful, practice of solitude. In a culture that celebrates busyness and constant activity, solitude can feel counter-cultural, even uncomfortable. But solitude isn’t simply about stepping away from noise or slowing down our schedules. It’s about intentionally stepping toward God, making space to be fully present with Him. In this episode, we talk about what it means to “Be still,” how to resist the pull of distraction, and why solitude can be one of the most life-giving practices for our souls. If you’re longing for a deeper connection with God in the midst of life’s noise, this conversation will encourage you to slow down, be still, and truly meet with Him. Episode Highlights:

In today’s episode, we’re talking about how foster care has impacted our families: the hard parts and the really good ones. Foster care is mission work, and like anything meaningful, it comes with its share of challenges and rewards. If you’re curious about foster care or are already in it and looking for people who truly understand, this conversation is for you. We share how this journey has stretched us, grown our faith, and pushed us to rely on God more than ever. It’s been refining in all the best (and hardest) ways. We believe we’re all called to make disciples, and sometimes that looks like opening our homes to kids who need love and stability. Foster care has helped us develop tools we didn’t know we needed, and we’ve seen so much growth, both in ourselves and our families. At the end of the day, God is good no matter what, and this experience has taught us to trust Him in deeper ways. Episode Highlights:

| 90. Replay- Dragging Vs. Leading: The Positive Impact of Foster Care on Your Biological Family | 07 juil. 2025 | 00:29:41 | |
We’re bringing back this episode because it’s especially fitting for summer. Maybe this season has felt heavy—hard to juggle new rhythms, tiring for your biological family, or filled with questions about whether foster care is still good for your home. This conversation is a timely reminder: foster care can be good for your family. It’s not about dragging them through it, but leading them well—anchored in purpose and grace. What is the difference between dragging your biological family through the muck and mire of foster care versus leading them through it well? If you are a foster or adoptive parent, more than likely, you know what we are talking about when it comes to facing some adversity from the people who love you when you first share the news that you are becoming Foster Parents. Although it can sometimes be disheartening, we believe there is a way to confidently lead your family through this journey while mirroring the love of Jesus to those around you. In today’s episode, you are getting a sneak peek into one of our breakout sessions from the Mobilize Ohio Conference titled “Dragging vs. Leading.” Our panel is made up of four women who collectively have a wealth of experience and knowledge from all different perspectives of the foster care journey. We hope the wisdom shared throughout this episode will give you the strength and knowledge to find a group of people who get you, even if you are still waiting for the people who love you to get on board. We encourage you to keep pressing forward on God’s calling on your life despite any challenges you may face; you are touching more lives than just the kiddos who walk through your door. | 88. When Church Hurts: A Conversation About Single Moms and the Church | 23 juin 2025 | 00:24:27
At Hope Bridge, two of our biggest priorities are supporting single moms and engaging the local church. But bringing those two things together isn’t always simple. In this episode, we’re discussing a sensitive but important topic: church hurt—specifically, how it affects single moms. This conversation is not meant to overgeneralize or place blame. We are incredibly grateful for the many churches we partner with that do amazing work to support families. At the same time, we also want to honor the stories of single moms who have felt excluded from ministries, overlooked for leadership, or disconnected from small groups. Sometimes, the hurt comes through unsolicited advice that, while well-intended, causes pain. Other times, it’s not about what’s said—but what isn’t. The absence of acknowledgment or representation can leave single moms feeling invisible. God created us for community. Even when that community has caused hurt, the need for connection remains. We talk about the importance of continuing to seek out healthy church spaces, even after past wounds. Sometimes, God meets us most powerfully outside of a traditional church setting—but we have to be seeking Him. Church is meant to be a place of restoration, hope, and belonging. In this conversation, we explore how we can help the Church reflect that vision more fully—especially for single moms. Episode Highlights:

| 79. Empower U: Teaching Real-Life Skills to Empower Real-Life Moms | 21 avr. 2025 | 00:20:59 | |
In this episode, we’re excited to introduce Jen Zwick, the Family Support Specialist in the Single Moms Program at Hope Bridge. Jen shares her heart for walking alongside single mothers and highlights some of the challenges these families often face. Did you know that 1 in 4 children under the age of 18 are raised by a single mother? That’s about 13 million children growing up without a father. In Ohio, nearly two-thirds of all children living in poverty are in single-mother or grandmother-led households. Poverty is often misunderstood as neglect due to issues like poor housing conditions or food insecurity, which can lead to increased involvement from child welfare systems. At Hope Bridge, we believe in stepping in before that happens—offering stable housing, supportive services, and practical help to moms facing crisis in our communities. Through our residential program, single moms (ages 18 and older) live in a safe, supportive home with their children for 9–12 months while working toward personal goals. We provide mentorship, help with education, budgeting, life skills, and healthy meal planning. Moms are also encouraged to connect with local churches and build community support. It’s all about creating stability and equipping moms to thrive. We’ve also launched Empower U, a new skill-focused support group for single moms that meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at the Compassion Center. This is a space where moms can continue learning and growing with the support of others. We are currently looking for volunteers to get involved by teaching skills, providing meals, or helping with childcare. If you’re interested, check out the links below to learn more and sign up. Together, we can be the village that makes a difference in the lives of single moms and their children. Episode Highlights:

Nicole has such a hopeful and practical perspective, especially for foster and adoptive parents or anyone caring for kids who’ve been through hard things. We discuss why it’s so important to look at trauma and resilience through both a biblical and scientific lens, how early adversity impacts kids differently, and what we can actually do to help build resilience in the children we love. Nicole also shares how faith plays a key role in healing and growth—not just for kids, but for us as caregivers too. Nicole leads global research efforts to improve care for vulnerable children and families. She’s been involved in everything from therapy to cross-cultural ministry to large-scale care reform. Alongside his wife, Donna, and 22 families in their small East Texas church, they adopted 77 children from the foster care system, sparking a movement of faith and action. Bishop Martin shares why adoption is God’s work and why every community needs its own Possum Trot. While not everyone is called to foster or adopt, he emphasizes that everyone can support in some way. “If people in Possum Trot can do it with nothing, then there’s no excuse for others to say they can’t.” This episode is a powerful reminder that faith and community can transform lives. Join us as we discuss how we can all play a role in giving children the love and stability they deserve. Episode Highlights:

| 73. Stepping into Foster Care with a Desire to Adopt | 10 mars 2025 | 00:33:24 | |
Many people enter foster care with the hope of adoption, but is that wrong? This question has sparked discussion and even some controversy in the foster care community. For some, the desire to adopt stems from infertility or simply wanting to grow their family. In this episode, we discuss the realities of fostering with the heart to adopt and what it means to balance that desire with the primary goal of foster care—family reunification. We discuss the process of dual licensing, the differences between being a foster parent and an adoptive parent, and the importance of providing stability for children in care. There is often stigma or shame around wanting to adopt through foster care, but it’s not inherently wrong. Adoption actually is a beautiful outcome. But we must also keep our heart in check, ensuring we are also supporting reunification efforts for the child in our home. Join us for an honest conversation about navigating these emotions and expectations while fostering with love and purpose. Episode Highlights:

In this episode, we sit down with Chef Kibby, a biological, foster, and adoptive dad who discovered a unique way to build trust and connection with his kids through the everyday act of cooking and sharing meals. At the start of 2020, Chef Kibby seemed to have it all—a thriving catering business, a new event space, a podcast, and a side gig teaching college courses. But at home, things were falling apart. Parenting children from outside their family of origin presented challenges he wasn’t prepared for. His efforts to connect weren’t working, behaviors weren’t improving, and discipline felt futile. Feeling overwhelmed, he retreated into his work—until the pandemic forced him to pause and reevaluate. When his business closed and his escape was gone, Chef Kibby faced a parenting crisis head-on. In that struggle, he stumbled upon a transformative realization: food isn’t just about nourishment—it’s about connection. By focusing on the simple act of feeding and being fed, Chef Kibby found a way to build trust, create safety, and deepen relationships with his children. Now, he’s on a mission to share this approach with other foster and adoptive parents, helping them find peace and connection through the language of the body. Episode Highlights:
