Practical Step to Homeschooling High School with Carrie De Francisco31 May 202400:24:43

Home education through elementary is fairly undaunting and highly enjoyable. When high school rolls around, the pressure to socialise children and prepare them for careers, college, and life begins to amp up, and uncertainty about how equipped we are to tackle the job at hand or even if it's a good idea in the first place can weigh us down.

Whether you're considering homeschooling through high school, in the midst of it, or looking for fresh ideas after homeschooling your third child, this episode is a goldmine of practical advice.

Carrie De Francisco, a fellow homeschooling parent, founder of Coffee with Carrie, and author of the newly released Homeschool High School, joins Jennifer Pepito in episode 86. Together, they delve into the world of homeschooling, high school, community building, and restoring relationships.

A Good God and a Simple Life with Emelie Pepito24 May 202400:26:20

Silent to do lists, Pinterest meal pressure, self-care standards, religious pressures, we are surrounded by so many voices putting external pressures on us. The unfinished baseboards, the 400 recipes in your Pinterests food boards, the weights in the corner of your room, the unused gym membership. What if part of a restored life was learning to identify and reduce these clamouring gremlins that are trying to steal our joy and reduce the simplicity of what Christ has called you to in whatever stage of parenting or life you are in?

Join Jennifer and Emelie Pepito in episode 85 as they discuss these silent to do lists, how simplicity gives us space to breath, the importance of values, and how understanding who God is as a loving Father can take us from stressed and overwhelmed to a glorious adventure with a loving God who has our backs.

Work, Rest, Read, Repeat with Elsie Iudicello17 May 202400:26:08

Whenever I read a book by Elizabeth Goudge, I am transported into a world of everyday heroines and heroes that inspire me to live with a little more beauty and graciousness in my everyday life.

The wisdom and tender authority she carries, the way she talks about her marriage and husband, the graceful way she sets boundaries of community within her family, and her understanding of seasons, offers a refreshing and inspiring view of an orderly life for our community.

Practical Steps for a Happy Marriage with Emelie Pepito10 May 202400:27:42

Submission has become a polarising word. For those of us who were raised under hyper-religious structures in the 80s and 90s, submission was framed in medieval terms. For some, it's one of those things in the Bible, that we simply lay aside as archaic, along with the commandment for women to go outside of the city whilst on their period. For others, it conveys a whole world of hurt and manipulation.

But what is submission, really? Is it necessary? And does it have anything to do with building an orderly, fulfilling, and joy filled marriage?

Welcome to episode 83! Emelie and Jennifer begin to tackle some of these questions, and talk about thankfulness, submission, Laura Doyles six step to intimacy, and so much more.

Stories of Prayer with Emelie Pepito29 Mar 202400:26:01

“For prayer is nothing else than being on terms of friendship with God.” – Teresa of Ávila

Welcome to episode 77. Jennifer and Emelie come together to talk about prayer. Prayer is a habit essential to our walk as mothers. We are entrusted with the care of souls, and how can we do that without constant communion with God?

Not only that, but our Christian faith gives us open access to a loving God who speaks to us as individuals and the body of Christ, encourages, exhorts, guides us in our daily decisions, comforts us in our stress and distress, and is a "very present help in trouble." (Psalm 46:1)

The Process of Healing with Kimberly June Miller08 Mar 202400:29:41

If you were dropped into an alpine meadow with a large picnic hamper full of C.S. Lewisesque fruits and foods, and your children, would you have the most delicious day of your life? Imagine this meadow has a stream, and you don't have a phone or a computer; it's you and your children in the most pristine and quiet setting imaginable.

Would you have the best day of your life? Or would the silence and spacious emptiness of such a day make you feel uneasy? Do you think something important might not be getting done? For me, the thought of having such an unproductive day fills me with a low level of anxiety.

What if in our busyness and overstimulation, we are missing an invitation to connect with Jesus? What if there is a level of Shalom on offer for our homes that requires us to prioritise empty space in our daily lives?

Welcome to episode 74 with Kimberly June Miller, a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. We've talked so much about becoming healthier as parents across the Restoration Home Podcast and I love this conversation because it is full of practical advice and compassion for parents.

Stewarding Progesterone with Emelie Pepito01 Mar 202400:20:41

Episode 73 marks the beginning of a four week segment on stewardship. Jennifer and Emelie start with the most basic stewardship, our hormones, specifically progesterone!*

Progesterone is the hormone that prepares your body for pregnancy at the end of your cycle. When you have enough of it, you should feel calm and nurtured in the days running up to your cycle. But stress, crowded schedules, busy school loads, and trying to do everything can derail our progesterone production.

Why does this matter? When we don't steward our hormones properly across our cycle, we start using cortisol and adrenals to function. This causes long term stress on our body, reducing our capacity to handle bigger life stressors that come our way because we have used everything up trying to over perform during the progesterone (Luteal Phase) of our cycle.

Addressing this is about learning micro stewardship of our emotions and progesterone across the cycle.

Micro emotional stewardship is learning to connect with God in the middle of a emotion and ask:

1. Is this feeling true or is it an emotion that's coming up and related to some old pain or lie about the goodness of God, the love of my husband, or God's sufficiency? (Memorise Psalm 23)

2. Is this feeling something physical–hormonal, exhaustion, poor diet choice, stress?

3. Is my reaction to this feeling going to bring connection or disconnection?

Progesterone stewardship is learning to identify the foods and care your body needs in the last 10 days of your cycle.

*None of this is medical advice, nor is it intended to be.

How Does Work Make You Feel with Emelie Pepito02 Feb 202400:26:51

How do you feel when you're doing the dishes, weeding in the garden, working for a paycheck, folding laundry, paying the bills, making dinner for a close friend you're excited to see, or packing for your dream trip?

Do you know what these things have in common? They are work. But we have very different feelings associated with each one. Dishes, laundry, weeding are alternately exhausting, relaxing, or frustrating. Making dinner for our close friend or a loved one, packing for a dream holiday, it's exhilirating, fun, and a joy.

In episode 69, Jennifer and Emelie dive down into the mindsets, lies, fears, and feelings we get when it comes to work, how we can change our mindset around the most mundane tasks, and begin to enjoy work as a better part of being alive.

Faith, Friends, and Finishing Well with Sally Clarkson19 Jan 202400:24:54

Sally Clarkson is a dear friend and long awaited guest of the podcast. Her long years of mothering, and her pursuit of sacred living for mind, body and spirit, has made her an enduring motherhood figure.

In episode 67, she joins Jennifer to talk about planting a flag in the ground of your heart that says: from this point forward, I will no longer listen to lies, I will no longer live according to my fears, but according to the goodness of God, and His truth.

There is more than just symbolism to this gesture though. There is planning, and dreaming and executing the vision of what that might look like for your unique life. Jennifer and Sally talk about how to go about planting that flag, and creating a vision and course of action to support a life that is lived bravely, gently, and in truth.

How We Can Save the World with Emelie Pepito05 Jan 202400:23:07

It's the beginning of 2024, and we are opening The Restoration Home Community. We are so excited for this next year of habit building and community.

"Why" you might ask. Well, habits, community, looking your children in the eye, a few more family dinners is about more than a nicer life or happier children, a cleaner house, more time to exercise. These are all parts of building something beautiful and sustaining that can carry ourselves and our families through whatever lies ahead.

In preparation for the community and podcast line up for 2024, Jennifer and Emelie came together to talk about community, restoration, and how you can save the world by eating dinner as a family. But ultimately, we're excited about how growing habits of thankfulness, prayer, quiet can bring us closer to God and bring greater wholeness to our day to day lives.

Jennifer Pepito on a Charlotte Mason Education30 Dec 202300:17:32

How can the principles of a Charlotte Mason education help you love God and create an elevated wholesome family?

Charlotte Mason wrote of education, "We allow no separation to grow up between the intellectual and 'spiritual' life of children...". The unity between a child's spiritual growth and their intellectual development has led Jennifer, over the years, to create the Peaceful Press and with her husband, curate a home environment that focuses on "whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy...".(Phil 4:8)

But what does the home environment have to do with education? What do we mean when we talk about not separating a child's spiritual life from their education?

In this solo episode, Jennifer does a delightful and well researched job of explaining the philosophy behind the Peaceful Press education method, and its role in restoration.

Finally, we are so excited to announce that the Restoration Home Community is NOW OPEN. Join Jennifer for a year of habit building through Jennifer's new book "Habits for a Sacred Home". One thing we have learned is that community is so important for growing in our habits and acheiving our goals, and we're excited to build community around sacred habits in 2024.

Planning a Restorative New Year23 Dec 202300:25:18

With 2023 drawing to a close and 2024 beginning, there are things we can do to process, grieve, celebrate the past year, so we can approach the new year with hope, vision, and excitement.

Jennifer and Emelie come together in Episode 63 to share how they process the past year, and plan for the next year.

This episode covers personal stories and ideas for the processes of welcoming in the new year. They cover the importance of dreaming with God for the year, setting aside time to grieve dissapointment, failure, and frustrations from the year so we can understand God's perspective on us and our year. They talk about learning to hear from God as a friend who wants to speak with and join us in our dreaming.

The episode is also full of practical and beautiful ideas for making goals. You can write a eulogy so each year you set goals around how you want to be remebered. Setting fun goals like what do I want to learn, what books do I want to read, are great for finding ways to grow and learn something that privides life giving creativity or opportunities to learn and rest.

Finally, we are so excited to announce that the Restoration Home Community is opening in January for a year of habit building through Jennifer's new book "Habits for a Sacred Home". One things we have learned is that community is so important for growing in our habits and acheiving our goals, and we're excited to build community around sacred habits in 2024.

Technology as a Tool for Restoration with Ryan Collins15 Dec 202300:28:54

Is technology a tool or a toy, good or bad? What role does the arts play in technology? Can technology play a part in restoring homes?

Ryan Collins, president of Bethel Tech, joins Jennifer in Episode 62 to answer these questions and so much more. There is a place for connection over video games, and the arts are the bedrock to a career in technology, just as they are for other aspects of a child's development into a well rounded human. Ryan also brings to the podcast a passion for righteous principles in the work force, his excitement for tech careers opportunities that skip years of college and debt, and his experience as a homeschool dad building a family culture of intentionality.

Ryan's Practices for a whole and Restored Family:

  1. We turn off wifi every night when we go to bed.
  2. When we travel qw wear hats that are emf blockers
  3. We make sure we are not spending a ton of time staring at screens
  4. We spend a lot of time outside and together
  5. Limit a child's screen time and make sure you are monitoring it

Crafting Space to Create with Ashlee Gadd13 Dec 202300:22:29

One of the values of restoration is creativity. Architecture is creativity, making a budget go farther than you thought is creativity, cooking a beautiful meal, scheduling your day so you have time for what is important to you, and so much more require creative actions. At the root of creativity is "create", which means "to make or bring into existence something new". Creativity is producing something which is not obvious or already there.

While creativity can range from perfecting organization in a small space to a Degas painting, one thing all creative actions have in common is the need for white space, quiet space, empty space to provide the downtime needed for creativity.

This week Jennifer Pepito is joined by Ashlee Gadd the creator of Coffee and Crumbs and author at the Coffee and Crumbs Substack. They talk about how to create downtime for creativity, learning to better understand your personal relationship with social media and the spiritual importance of creativity.

Creating a Nature Based Christmas with Lynn Seddon02 Dec 202300:25:20

I was recently in San Francisco, and I drove from the airport to Poplar Beach in Half Moon Bay. The change as I moved closer to the ocean, the expanses of green, the hills, the empty space, I could feel myself starting to breathe again. You might not be fortunate enough to live in an area where you can walk barefoot on the beach in December, but no matter what climate you live in, Episode 59 is full of beautiful ways to enjoy and observe the quiet and rest found in nature across the Holiday season.

Lynn Seddon of Raising Little Shoots and the guide Exploring Nature with Children joins Jennifer Pepito to talk about creating a natural Christmas. How we can use the flora and fauna around us to bring seasonal nature into our homes, how it can bring connection, quiet our souls in a rushed season through multidimensional sensory input, and fill our homes with the beauty of the winter season.

Boys are People Too with Durenda Wilson26 Jul 202400:23:02

Durenda Wilson author of Raising Boys to Men and creator of Simply Unhurried and the Durenda Wilson Podcast joins Jennifer Pepito for an incredibly podcast all about boys. This episode is about creating a space and mindset that is hospitable towards our sons. Their mindsets and energy levels, the way in which they are wired, are different from our daughters, different from ourselves and in a society that prioritises soft, social skills the energy and aggression that little boys carry is often misunderstood and punished instead of being channelled and regulated to help our sons thrive in life.

Episode 94 is a practical guide for raising sons in a world where masculinity has become a confusing subject, and the role of men has changed drastically in the last 100 years. Never before have our sons needed our support in becoming great men, and this podcast is an excellent place to start.

Advent and the Gift of Waiting with Gayle Boss10 Nov 202300:21:51

As deep cold and long nights approach, the painted turtle burrows deep, stills its breathing, and disappears into quietude for 6 months. It was the story of the Painted Turtle's waiting period that first inspired Gayle Boss to create the All Creation Waits book that inspired the Peaceful Press's Unearthing Wonder Advent Guide.

Now we welcome Gayle Boss onto Restoration Home for a conversation about the inspiration and birth of "All Creation Waits". Gayle talks about waiting, about seasonal depression not as something shameful, but as the bodies response to the season and the need to cuddle in, to still the whirl of activity we dwell amidst, and let our souls rest.

Sometimes, you wake up and suddenly realise your soul is heavy and so often we'll medicate that heaviness, when we need to clear the deck to let ourselves sink deep into the mud like a painted turtle and experience deep quiet.

In this season, what would leaning into rest look for you? What does your soul need, what does the heartbeat of your family need?

Presence Over Perfect with Joy Prouty27 Oct 202300:23:02

Cameras clicking, children laughing, turkey roasting, presents yet to be wrapped, quietude of "silent night, holy night". The holidays are a magical moment of our year, where we set aside time and energy to celebrate, remember, enjoy, and connect with family and friends. Yet in all that beauty, it's often a time when stress, past hurt, present pain, the desire to create something magical for our spouse, children, loved ones, and dirty laundry can become a monumental practice exacerbating lies we believe about ourselves, God, and our ability to be connect and be present with those who really matter.

Join Joy Prouty, author of Practicing Presence and Jennifer Pepito to talk about how the process of becoming present creates connection, and offers restorative practices for engaging in the difficult tasks of life. With both practical steps for stepping back from the madness to find the beauty, return to present, and capture the moment, as well as a gentle understanding of how stressful life can be, but how good and sufficient God is, this episode is a perfect forerunner to the holidays and the rest of your life.

Enjoy!!

Abbie Halberstadt is the author of M is for Mama and Hard is Not the Same as Bad joins Jennifer Pepito for a timely conversation about "hard": hard family relations, hard pasts, hard parenting days, and doing "hard" in a culture that wants easy.

Often we are looking for ways to minimise or fix our life, so that it's simple, organised, smooth, life giving, wholesome, or brings us joy. But there are many hard things we cannot change, like the people we work with, stressful holiday interactions, days when our children are unsettled, bad news.

Abbie brings a beautiful, God-filled perspective to "hard" from her own life as she and Jennifer talk about all of the things that we encouter on the daily, and finding God in the midst of it. Be Brave, be Bold, be Humble: Restoring Our Families with Rachel G. Scott22 Sep 202300:22:05

Failure can breed in us a deep despondency, disappointment, and become a breeding ground for lies about our identity, the goodness of God, our authority, and the possibility for us to try again to achieve a seemingly impossible dream.

But God. Be brave, be bold, and be humble.

Rachel G. Scott, author and podcaster, joins Jennifer Pepito for a beautiful conversation about dissapointment, heartache, and the beauty of falling into the hands of a good God and Father when we have come to the place where our world is beyond our control and we've "failed".

The Peaceful Press Philosophy on Teaching Language Arts15 Sep 202300:21:56

What makes great literature? Is Harry Potter great literature? What about Farenheit 451? Why are we at Restoration Home and The Peaceful Press so passionate about living stories, and how with all of these stories do we know what output to look for that assures us our child is learning??

Have you ever asked any of these questions?

In Episode 48, join Jennifer and Emelie, as they have a really fantastic conversation that engages all of these questions and much more. While this conversation is definitely more about homeschooling and teaching literature, it's also just a great conversation about learning and how we do it.

The Celebration of the Jewish Feasts with Sarah Ruth08 Sep 202300:22:23

Celebrations and traditions are ways we connect and remember the goodness of God in our lives. For all of time, cultures have built feasts and parties around significant events. As Christians, many of us find profound enjoyment and beauty in celebrations like Easter and Christmas as we remember Christ’s birth, death, and resurrection. And then we have cultural holidays, like Thanksgiving in America or Guy Fawkes in the UK. Most of us have family traditions we celebrate, and the memories and celebrations of our youth have a profound impact on us.

From early on Jennifer and her family began celebrating Passover in place of Easter, and as time and learning unfolded begin introducing and celebrating more of the Jewish Feasts into their year. On this podcast Sarah Ruth of Kindled Togetherness joins Jennifer to talk about the beauty of the Jewish Feasts and their celebration of Christ from the Passover Lamb to the Feast of Booths and the sojourning as we eagerly wait for the Lord’s return.

This is not a religious conversation, it’s a beautiful discussion between two moms and lovers of Jesus about the role remembering and celebrating what God spelled out in the feasts He gave the Israelites and how we can enjoy and celebrate them in our homes today.

Managing our Emotions18 Aug 202300:30:06

Welcome to Episode 44, a new series on Managing the many aspects of becoming a restoration family.

Jennifer and Emelie talk about the importance of managing our emotions and not burdening our children with big emotions.

Many of you felt like you had to parent your parents, but you can stop the cycle.

It’s okay to process out loud, but always leave your children with a hopeful statement like, “mommy is feeling overwhelmed right not, but I know God will carry us through”.

Then, take those big emotions and process them with a friend, mentor, or therapist.
