| Ep15. The Five Principles of RSI: Emergence | 10 Feb 2021 | 00:26:59 | |
In this episode Marita Fridjhon is deep-diving into the 5th and final principle of RSI: Relationship Systems are in a constant state of emergence, always in the process of expressing their potential. This principle is critical to the phenomenon referred to as the speed of change. It signifies modern society’s increasingly shorter planning horizons and the required flexibility to embrace and navigate change effectively. Successful organizations are nimble and flexible in the face of shifting tides. Most people are averse to change because they are afraid of the unknown or of losing the status quo. Even the word “change” itself often creates resistance. With RSI, the premise is to accept change as constant, natural and inevitable and to co-create with and from it. Leaders need to move away from the traditional unfreeze-change-freeze paradigm and encourage teams to embrace change as a natural and continuous evolution necessary for survival.
| Ep.14 Small Habits and Fresh Starts | 04 Feb 2021 | 00:32:12 | |
In this episode, Floyd Carlson and Katie Churchman are discussing the power of small habits and fresh starts. Building on their previous discussion around myths and myth change they explore ways of refreshing or completely rewriting narratives in our everyday lives. How can we change the stories that will enable us to step into new ways of being, with each other and with ourselves. We often wait for temporal markers- like a New Year or a birthday ending in a zero- to make big changes…but why can’t we start today? And what habits can we build into our lives to help us to keep us on track? Join Katie and Floyd as they discuss ways in which we can utilize the power of storytelling in everyday life in order to consciously create new ways of being, with our teams, our partners and perhaps most importantly with ourselves.
| Ep 13. The Five Principles of RSI: Intelligent, Generative and Creative | 27 Jan 2021 | 00:24:21 | |

| Ep.12 Do You Want To Be Right or Do You Want To Be in Relationship? | 21 Jan 2021 | 00:33:29 | |
In this episode, Katie Churchman talks with Maddie Weinreich about toxic behaviors. Building on John Gottman’s research into couples they explore how to become more aware and ultimately reduce the amount of ‘toxins’ that show up in your relationship. The 4 Relationship Toxins are Defensiveness, Contempt, Stonewalling and Blaming. When used frequently, these toxic communication patterns are so lethal to human relationships that Dr. Gottman coined the term the “The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse”.
| Ep 11. ORSC and Agile | 13 Jan 2021 | 00:27:17 | |
In this episode, Katie Churchman talks with ORSC coach and Agile expert Terrance Turpin. Terrance has over 20 years of experience in Technology and Software Development and is also a CRR USA staff member. Terrance blends Team coaching – supporting teams in clarifying, aligning & co-creating as a diverse but single entity -and Agility coaching – establishing healthy states of flow across an organization by coaching for alignment in structure, processes, environments, and relationships. Terrance believes that the coaching process is one that generates understanding and alignment for the client, their environments, and those they interact with. In this episode, Terrance and Katie discuss some of the synergies between ORSC and Agile Coaching; how ORSC and agile are two sides of the same coin; and how a blend of ORSC and Agile can enable organizations to master continuous change.
| Ep.10 - Myth Change | 06 Jan 2021 | 00:29:38 | |
In this episode, Floyd Carlson and Katie Churchman are discussing myths and myth change. The idea of a myth connects us with the archetypal roots of the relationship - which has great meaning and power. We are always developing who we are as a couple or a corporation, but often unconsciously. So by revealing this creative process to clients the coach we can make it much more conscious and intentional. Floyd is a Front of the Room Leader for CRR Global who focuses on leaders and teams and bringing the best out of individuals based on company and individual objectives. Floyd has more than 30 years of business and military experience which he combines with his coaching, training, and organizational development to help leaders achieve professional and personal goals in alignment with company needs.
| Ep.9 - The Five Principles of RSI: Roles | 16 Dec 2020 | 00:23:09 | |
In this episode, Marita Fridjhon is deep-diving into principle 3: Relationship Systems Rely on Roles for their Organization and Execution of functions. Roles belong to the system, not to the individuals that inhabit the system This principle requires the biggest mental shift in teaming and leadership focus as it asserts that every team member has the responsibility to hold a leadership role on behalf of the system. Every relationship system has its own functional and emotional needs that must be fulfilled through roles. Without assigned roles, the system can’t function. These roles belong to the relationship system, not necessarily to the individuals that inhabit them. How one person embodies a role can be very different from how another person embodies that same role. Personal history, psychology, work style, maturity, etc. all impact how skillfully each individual inhabits that role.
| Ep.8 The Five Principles of RSI: Voice of the System | 09 Dec 2020 | 00:25:30 | |
In this episode, Marita Fridjhon and Katie Churchman deep-dive into the second of the 5 principles of Relationship Systems intelligence: Every member of the system is an information carrier and Voice of the System (VOS). You can think of a team or family as a puzzle where every member is a piece. To reveal the picture of the overall team experience, every piece is needed. Each member has critical information about the functioning of that team or family. The information may be transmitted through verbal and non-verbal signals, as well as through the behaviors and actions of the individuals within the team. As the Collective Intelligence research indicates, the more input acquired from others, the more informed a team will be in its decision-making.
| Ep.13 Toxic Positivity | 13 Dec 2023 | 00:36:43 | |
In this episode, Katie talks with CRR Global faculty member Yuri Morikawa about toxic positivity. Across this conversation, they discuss:
| |||
| Ep. 7 Vitality for Couples | 02 Dec 2020 | 00:34:34 | |

Sometimes it can be very dull to be in a couple and can be very exciting! Relationships are in constant cycles. In this episode, Maddie talks about relationship behavioral patterns that can help to foster more aliveness, engagement and vitality. After two decades of working with couples, Maddie’s noticed 5 recurring ‘elements’ in couples with high levels of vitality. These 5 elements are as follows: 1. Autonomy 2. Interdependence 3. Constructive Disagreement 4. Intimacy 5. Vision When couples have all of these things going on there tends to be a good amount of engagement, aliveness and vitality.

| Ep.2 Ghost Roles (Part 1: Ghosts) | 28 Oct 2020 | 00:26:46 | |
In Part-1 of Ghosts, Faith Fuller is talking about Ghost roles. Ghost roles are invisible third-party presences that come and go and impact the emotional field. A ghost role is present when something is clearly affecting the relationship, yet isn’t talked about, and may not even be conscious to the people in the system. Ghosts arise from our experiences in previous relationships, both personal and professional. They may be people, or they may be events and they can both negatively and positively influence our lives. In this episode, Faith talks about becoming aware of ghosts, working with ghosts and potentially turning them into allies.
| Ep.1 Introducing the Five Principles of RSI | 21 Oct 2020 | 00:35:06 | |
In the first episode of season 2, Marita Fridjhon introduces the 5 principles of Relationship Systems Intelligence (RSI). RSI has five key principles which shape what we believe, how we engage, and the “place from which we come.” These principles underpin all of our relationships and are, therefore, fundamental to everything we do as coaches, leaders and human beings. Understanding and engaging in these principles can help us to better access and apply Relationship Systems Intelligence, with our clients, our teams, and with our families.
Principle #1 Each Relationship System has its own unique identity (referred to by Marita as the 3rd entity).
Principle #2 Every Member of a Relationship System Is a Voice of the System
Principle #3 Relationship Systems Are Naturally Intelligent, Generative and Creative
Principle #4 Relationship Systems Rely on Roles for their Organization and Execution of functions. Roles belong to the system, not to the individuals that inhabit the system
Principle #5 Relationship Systems Are In a Constant State of Emergence, always in the process of expressing their potential
| Welcome to Season 2 | 19 Oct 2020 | 00:02:30 | |
| Ep 15. Meeting the System | 29 Jul 2020 | 00:23:05 | |
In the Season 1 finale, Marita Fridjhon and Katie Churchman are talking about meeting the system. How can we make sure we are meeting the people in front us, as they are in the present moment? When we’re coaching, it can be all too easy to presume we know who we’re talking to – particularly when it comes to longer-term coaching engagements. So each and every time we meet a system, how can we try to see it with brand new eyes? So that our preconceptions and past experiences don’t cloud our vision of what’s really there?

| Ep 13. Leadership Is a Role That Belongs to the System | 15 Jul 2020 | 00:23:54 | |
In this episode, Marita Fridjhon and Katie Churchman talk about collective leadership. Many of us attribute the idea of ‘leadership’ to a particular person or a team of ‘leaders.' However, as Marita explains in this podcast, leadership can also be viewed as a role that belongs to the system. When we embrace this idea we start to see that inspired leadership can show up in the most unlikely places and from the most unlikely people. What would your team or family dynamic be like if there was more of a sense of shared responsibility around the idea of ‘leadership’? As opposed to belonging one person, can this be a role that we share?
| Ep 12. Establishing a Coaching Agenda | 09 Jul 2020 | 00:23:21 | |
In this episode, Faith Fuller is talking about setting a coaching agenda. Establishing a clear agenda at the start of a coaching session is incredibly important because it sets expectations and also influences the relationship between coach and client. It’s a powerful tool that can set the tone for everything else to follow. But it can also be the coaching session in of itself. As Faith explains- the agenda doesn’t have to be something we rush to ‘get done’ at the beginning of the session. When a client doesn’t know what they want or brings a really broad or vague ‘goal’ to a session how can we help them to get more clarity around their wants and needs?
| Ep11. Reading the Emotional Field | 01 Jul 2020 | 00:38:03 | |
In this episode, Marita Fridjhon and Katie Churchman are talking about reading and working with the emotional field, which is a key element of systems coaching. By closely tracking shifts in the emotional field we can start to reflect back and possibly shape the emotional climate in a given situation. You can think of it like an immediate weather report of what is happening emotionally in this moment. And just like a weather report, it’s not exact. There might be a 69% chance of rain, just in the same way you sense some awkwardness in the field. It’s subjective, ever-changing and can provide us with a lot of information. Alongside the emotional field, they discuss Metaskills, conscious intentionality, self-awareness and the intelligence of the body.
| Ep.7 Coach, Consultant or something else...? | 03 Jun 2020 | 00:21:01 | |
In this episode, Faith Fuller is talking about what makes systems coaching different. What are the crossovers between pure coaching and consultancy and what is unique about systems coaching? What do we do? Why do we do it? And how does it help our clients?
RSI-White-Paper: An Introduction to Relationship Systems Intelligence
| Ep 6. Systems Inspired Leadership | 27 May 2020 | 00:16:56 | |
In this episode, Marita Frijdhon is talking about system inspired leadership and why it is needed now more than ever. As we say in systems coaching, ‘the whole is greater than the sum of its parts’ and by utilizing this intelligence, teams of all shapes and sizes may find that they not only survive- but thrive- through challenging times. Instead of focusing on the individual mountain that we have to climb, let’s connect with the team around us, and consider what we can do together- today- to create positive change. Key takeaways from the episode:
| |||
| Ep 5. Transparency | 20 May 2020 | 00:28:24 | |

Transparency can help to build trust, deepen connections and humanize conversations. This episode covers the importance of transparency when coaching systems you are a part of; being clear and upfront about hidden agendas; using transparency in emails and texts to offer clarity and also, using it as a tool for flagging intentions.
| Ep 4. Life-Giving vs. Life-Draining | 13 May 2020 | 00:19:40 | |
In this episode, Marita Fridjhon is talking about life-giving and life-draining behaviours. What gives you life and what drains you? And which do you bring more of to your family, colleagues and community? Over the course of the episode, Marita discusses becoming conscious of life-giving and life-draining qualities, the stages of grief and also takes a look at how the two qualities are more intertwined than we might realise. Can life-giving qualities exist within life-draining experiences, like grief?

| Ep 3. What To Do After An Argument | 06 May 2020 | 00:25:38 | |
In this episode of the Relationship Matters podcast, Faith Fuller is talking about the aftermath of an argument. Arguments are a normal part of relationship. So perhaps we should be less concerned about the amount we argue and more focused on how we argue. And if we do blow up in relationship and we have a particularly unskillful argument, how can we more consciously recover from the blow and start to repair any damage that we might have created within the relationship? In this episode, we talk about the unwritten rules around our relationships that govern how we behave with our partners, children and colleagues. At CRR Global we refer to these social contracts as designed team alliances (which we refer to in this episode as a DTA). We also talk about how we can use fights as opportunities to learn and grow- both on an individual and an interpersonal level.
| |||
| Ep 2. Role Confusion | 26 Apr 2020 | 00:23:18 | |
Right now, many of our roles have blended together. We might be playing parent, teacher and manager all at the same time because of the lock-down measures brought in by COVID-19. Often people become identified with the job they are doing, which is what we refer to in this podcast as an “outer role” – like being CEO or cook. Or they identify with an emotional job for which they feel responsible – what we call an “inner role” like being the peacemaker, or the one who speaks up about things. So join Marita as she talks about the different types of roles and what we might learn from the overlapping of the many roles in our lives. How might we better navigate this juggling of responsibilities, jobs and parts of self? Now and also beyond a time of COVID-19…

In this 4-part bonus series on ORSC and parenting, Katie Churchman explores parenting through the lens of ORSC with CRR Global Co-founder Faith Fuller and senior faculty member Sandra Cain. Across this 4-part bonus series, Sandra takes the role of host, allowing Katie to embrace being a guest on the show as a new mum to twin girls. These 4 episodes were recorded across a 6-month period, so different life experiences, challenges, and changes have informed the evolution of this conversation. Part 1 provides an overview of the topic, and parts 2, 3, and 4 explore ORSC and parenting through the different relationship dimensions: Relationship Intelligence, Relationship Geography, and Relationship Path.
