As you can probably guess, the title riffs on Dawn of the Dead—but let’s be real, this isn’t exactly a horror flick. It’s a parody zombie comedy that still manages to slip in some surprisingly serious turns. Sure, you can just laugh it off and enjoy the ride, but the film’s message comes through almost too clearly—so much so that our talk ended up circling around pretty general themes. Art is free, which means interpretations should be free too. Looking back, I kinda wish I had dug up a more off-beat take of my own. Oh, and totally off topic—but you know those modern sasumata poles malls keep for intruder defense? We kept it pretty light, but the conversation ended up circling around that bigger question: how much “bait-and-switch” is acceptable in storytelling?
