The Detroit Red Wings season is done and it's time to submit the Detroit Red WIngs Player Grades for the 2021-22 Season. As per our tradition, the Red Wings will be graded by Little Caesars Menu Items. All items on the menu are up for grabs and cannot be repeated.

The Red Wings saw All-Star level performances from Dylan Larkin, Elite performances from Moritz Seider, and surprise breakout performances from Lucas Raymond. And some incredible goal scoring from Jakub Vrana.

While the Red Wings team and fans saw some good to take away from this past season, the losing record and goal differential definitely mean there were some not-so-great performances as well. The likes of Adam Erne, Givani Smith, Nick Leddy, Thomas Greiss, and Gustav Lindstrom stand out.

But for all of the great and not so great performances, the Red Wings had a lot of middling and tough to decide on performances, either because they did improve as the season went on, we did see some glimpses of greatness, or we just couldn’t ask them to be better than they are: Joe Veleno, Michael Rasmussen, Filip Zadina, Jordan Oesterle, Filip Hronek, and the list goes on.

Moritz Seider is your Calder Trophy favorite, but how does Seider feel about it. Would the Detroit Red Wings’ signing Filip Forsberg make the Red WIngs playoff contenders?  

Filip Forsberg is having a career year and he is scheduled to be an Unrestricted Free Agent at the end of the season. Should Steve Yzerman make a big splash or is this not the right move? We have a similar conversation with John Klingberg, Trocheck, and Rust.

What is the impact of the Detroit Red Wings' last game? They play the New Jersey Devils on Friday, April 29th. 

As of the recording,  the Red Wings hold the 8th best odds for the 1st overall pick, giving them a 5.8% chance of winning. The Red Wings still have a shot at getting the 7th best odds and we detail how.

We’ll also take a look at some of the names the Red Wings will most likely be able to draft as we begin to countdown to the NHL Draft Lottery on May 10th. Of course, once those teams are drawn, we will have a better idea of the Red Wings will have the best shot at drafting. 

While they hold a 5.8% shot at drafting Shane Wright, there are still good players in the top 10 of this draft, including Logan Cooley, Frank Nazar, Brad Lambert, Matthew Savoie, and Joakim Kemell.

Hi everybody, and welcome to Episode 229 of Red Wings Rant: Where tirades and impassioned pleas about your Detroit Red Wings, finally, have a home. 

The Detroit Red Wings beat the Tampa Bay Lightning thanks to some elite goal-scoring from Jakub Vrana. We also have a date for the NHL Draft Lottery. And William Wallinder wins the Junior SHL Player of the Year award.

The Red Wings got two timely goals from Jakub Vrana, a beauty steal and snipe from Lucas Raymond, and some pretty good goaltending from Thomas Greiss. It was a solid win despite Dylan Larkin having season-ending surgery on his core and being ruled out for the rest of the season.

The NHL announced that the Draft Lottery would take place remotely on Tuesday, May 10th. The NHL Draft is scheduled to occur in Montreal on July 7th and 8th.

We have a William Wallinder update as he wins the SHL’s Junior Player of the Year award. Among previous winners are Rasmus Dahlin, Victor Hedman & Niklas Kronwall.

The Detroit Red Wings went down to the New York Rangers, 4-0. With nearly zero effort from Larkin, Raymond, and the boys we thought they’d have the energy to muster a better performance against the Panthers. Deep into the 3rd period, the Red Wings are currently down 5-0 to the Florida Panthers.

The Detroit Red Wings were swept in their season series with the Ottawa Senators and have nine games left on the season. The Red Wings also announced the signing of Magnus Hellberg,

The Red Wings lost 4-1 to the Ottawa Senators. The lone goal came from a Moritz Seider sneak attack pass from behind the net to an open Tyler Bertuzzi. We also have another reverse hit from Moritz Seider to discuss, and this time the hit was on Mathieu Joseph. We also take a look at Michael Rasmussen and some of the impressive moves he’s made towards the end of the season.

Could we see any rookie call-ups with nine games left on the schedule? We also hope for any excitement as the Wings dive into their most brutal nine-game stretch of the season. Only two games are against non-playoff teams.

Finally, the Red Wings signed Magnus Hellberg. Hellberg was a 2nd round pick by the Nashville Predators in 2011 and has played his last five seasons in the KHL. It has been made public where he will land, but the contract only runs through the end of the season.

We also discuss the lack of forethought in goaltending decisions. Is pulling Nedeljkovic early and often helping anything? How much does this interrupt the team’s ability to prepare and organize?

Hi everybody and welcome to Episode 221 of Red Wings Rant: Where tirades and impassioned pleas about your Detroit Red Wings, finally, have a home. 

Jakub Vrana leads the Red Wings, Oskar Sundqvist, and Jake Walman to victory in their first game after the trade deadline.

Steve Yzerman had a busy trade deadline, making two significant deals, not including their movement of Troy Stecher for a 7th Round Pick.

The Detroit Red Wings also traded Nick Leddy to the St. Louis Blues for a 2023 2nd Round Pick, Oskar Sundqvist and Jake Walman. This one we’re calling a Yzerplan fleece.

Leddy leaves the Red Wings after being traded to the Red Wings for a 2nd Round Pick from the New York Islanders. Steve Yzerman gets that 2nd round picks back and picks up a left-side defenseman in Jake Walman and a solid bottom-six forward from Oskar Sundqvist.

In the final trade of the day, Steve Yzerman and the Red Wings sent Vladislav Namestnikov to Dallas for a 4th round pick.

What does it mean for the Red Wings that Tyler Bertuzzi and Filip Zadina were not moved at the deadline? Is there not enough of a market or is Yzerman happy with the development of his core?

The Red Wings retooled their roster and sent out a winning formula to defeat the Philadelphia Flyers, 6-3. Jakub Vrana had 2 goals, Tyler Bertuzzi had 3 points. 6 Red Wings had multi-point games and 11 had at least one point.

We also look ahead to a busy weekend with 3 games in 4 days, including the Red Wings taking on the New York Islanders, the Tampa Bay Lightning, and Pittsburgh Penguiins.

On Nick Leddy’s birthday, the Red Wings still stand with mostly the same roster they started with, save for a couple of waiver transactions throughout the year. Is there a big move ready to happen on the NHL’s Trade Deadline? And what could it be?

While Steve Yzerman has been known to be quiet when it comes to releasing insider information, the rumor mill has discussed Tyler Bertuzzi, Filip Zadina and even Dylan Larkin. With only Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond being the only untouchable on the Red Wings current squad.

Hi everybody and welcome to Episode 219, Season 3 of Red Wings Rant: Where tirades and impassioned pleas about your Detroit Red Wings, finally, have a home.

Marc Staal and the Detroit Red Wings nearly comeback vs the Edmonton Oilers. Staal’s two goals, however, were not enough to overcome two different 3 goal deficits.

McDavid and the Oilers played keep-away for the first five minutes of the game, which led to a quick exit for Thomas Greiss (3GA in 5 minutes).

Alex Nedeljkovic and Thomas Greiss continue their descent down the league goaltender rankings with no clear end in sight. 

For the Red WIngs, solid games from Olli Juolevi and Taro Hirose made for more of a balanced game for Detroit. 

We also got some great play from Moritz Seider on McJesus, a goal from Lucas Raymond, and the beauty of a snipe from Filip Zadina on the power play.

The Red Wings also signed Cross Hanas, the 2020 2nd round pick who has played for the WHL’s  Portland Winterhawks, totaling 70 points in 53 games.

After two straight losses against two of the toughest matchups in the NHL, Red Wings fans want answers!

While Jeff Blashill’s departure is an inevitability, will Steve Yzerman decide on a more emotional gesture and move forward with different leadership behind the bench? 

Among the list of big moves, one could speculate that since Lucas Raymond, Moritz Seider, Dylan Larkin, and Tyler Bertuzzi aren’t enough, the Red Wings need much more help in the lineup to find some wins.

That being said, will Steve Yzerman look to move bigger names at the Trade Deadline: Filip Zadina seems to be at the top of that list.

We’ve already discussed: Sergei Federov’s number 91, Vladdy Konstantinov’s number 16. And in the next generation: Pavel Datsyuk’s number 13 and Henrik Zetterberg’s number 40.

Today we’ll touch on Chris Osgood, Brendan Shanahan and Chris Chelios.

With so many names making major moves in this franchise, why are so few retired? What should be the formula for a retired number in the NHL? Should we care about retired numbers as much as we do?

The Detroit Red Wings defensive struggles overshadow any positives to be found from the Back-to-back games against Pittsburgh and Toronto. After giving up 5 goals in the 3rd period to the Toronto Maple Leafs we thought it was best to remind everyone that the future is bright and the present ain’t so bad either.

Besides Moritz Seider, the Red Wings haven’t gotten great defense, or even average performances, from anyone else. Marc Staal, Nick Leddy, Danny Dekeyser, Jordan Oesterle, and Filip Hronek have shown glaring weaknesses at one point or another.

That being said, the Red Wings could be a few moves away from having a strong defense if you take a look at the Unrestricted and Restricted Free Agent Markets. While many Wings fans have highlighted Hampus Lindholm as an option, a couple of cheaper options might be found in the restricted free agent market.

And let’s not forget that Simon Edvinsson and Albert Johansson, two strong defensive prospects for the Wings, will be fighting for a job next season as well.

Vladislav Namestnikov was promoted to the first line after a pretty good start to the season. The 1st line was made up of Captain, Dylan Larkin, Lucas Raymond, Vladdy. The line put in 1 goal early in the 3rd.

Tyler Bertuzzi, Fabbri, and Pius Suter made up the second line for the Red Wings. Suter, Bertuzzi, and Fabbri used to play together on the Guelph Storm.

Moritz Seider, the human wrecking ball, was not enough for the Red Wings to beat the Washington Capitals or the Boston Bruins.

The Red Wings mustered 2 measly goals against the Boston Bruins and the Washington Capitals, reminding us all how far this team still needs to go.

The IIHF World Juniors are canceled leaving Red Wings fans with no hockey till Friday. The tournament ends with 2022 NHL Draft Prospect, Brad Lambert, and 2023 NHL Draft Prospect, Connor Bedard walking away with star-making performances.

Simon Edvinsson and Theodor Niederbach also had a good show and should only add to the excitement of the Swedish Red Wings Prospect’s eventual arrival.

Red Wings games continue to get postponed, as Wednesday Night’s game against the Islanders was postponed. We ask the question, is there a silver lining for the Red Wings and their fans to all of these postponed games?

We also take our fan question of the week: Would we trade any of the Red Wings top prospects for a Center?

The Red Wings are still holding onto a playoff Wild Card Spot in the Eastern Conference after their win against the New York Islanders.

We’ll take an in-depth look at the Red Wings win over the Islanders. Another great game by Nedeljkovic while Rasmussen, Lindstrom and Zadina also stood out. And we’ll look ahead to the game against the Carolina Hurricanes and New Jersey Devils. 

It also won’t hurt to get an update on the Rookie Performances thus far and see how we feel about Lucas Raymond, Moritz Seider, and Alex Nedeljkovic’s respective chances.

The Red Wings also sent two forwards into COVID Protocol. Both Michael Rasmussen and Robby Fabbri will go under the NHL’s COVID Protocol.
