If you've seen the second Hunger Games movie - Catching Fire - you know that Katniss and Peeta, two of the main characters, are touring the districts by train after winning the 74th annual Hunger Games, as is custom for the winner to do.

Things go badly in District 11, when Katniss accidentally provokes the crowd into doing something that gets one of them killed by Capital Peacekeepers.

Completely freaked out, Katniss cries to Haymitch, hers and Peeta's mentor, about how to just get through the end of the tour so they can go home.

"Wake up, girl," Haymitch says, snapping his fingers. "This trip doesn't end. You ain't EVER getting off this train!"

The concept of never getting off the train is pretty terrifying in those circumstances!

But when you look at it from a different perspective, it’s actually a powerful way to think about your health journey, and here’s why.

One reason SO many people gain back weight is because they keep "getting off the train."

Put another way, they think they can skip doing the exact things that work to get and keep the weight off!

I call it the diet mentality, and it's only gonna ever lead to frustration and failure.

Unlike the train in the Hunger Games, you actually want all the incredible things that come with staying on the real food, water, and sleep train to get and KEEP your weight off!

I was standing at the Mr. Olympia bodybuilding competition in Las Vegas with my buddy Kris Gethin last month, looking at all the exhibitor promising things like DNA testing and weight loss pills...

When I was suddenly reminded of something I heard years ago:

That there are no new ideas.

Despite endless rounds of "promising new" gimmicks that want you to believe you can pop a pill or get a shot and melt away the fat in six seconds, there's no getting around your body's need for real food, water, and sleep for lasting weight loss and optimal wellness.

Real food, water, and sleep are what we've needed for all of humanity's existence.

It's the proper human diet. It's what we're designed for. It's NOT new!

And even high-quality supplements like the kind Code Red offers don't change that.

Do I think high-quality supplements have value?

Absolutely, to a point.

Do I think you can out-supplement a bad diet?

Absolutely NOT.

And to say otherwise is pretty insulting to Rebels like Lory Stobart, who lost 205 pounds in 18 months.

ONE DAY, YOU WON'T HAVE THE CHANCE04 Sep 202400:28:44

Last month, I took Hazel to detection training school in Canada.

I did it because Hazel is a working dog. A Belgian Malinois.

Belgians are the most agile, heroic, and (potentially) lethal dog breed on the planet.

That's why law enforcement agencies use them as detection and apprehension dogs.

Hazel was too small and too sweet to officially work for law enforcement, which is one reason I decided to adopt her.

But she's still a Malinois, and she's not built to be a family pet...

Which is why I signed us up for detection training school...so I better understood how to give her what SHE needs, as a Malinois.

The detection class itself was really fun, but going to Canada was an expensive, exhausting pain in the butt in pretty much every way.

Seriously, there were plenty of reasons NOT to go...like the money (I spent thousands of dollars on the class, the travel, and the Airbnb I stayed at), like being gone from home for too long, and like having to get up at 4 AM to get my work done before the class started.

But I did it all anyway, and even though it really kicked my butt, I'm SO glad I did it.

Why?

Because I might not get the chance again.

What if the training company shuts down?

What if the world situation changed, and I couldn't fly to Canada?

What if my schedule got even fuller, and it got even MORE inconvenient to make the time?

I get how easy it is to justify postponing stuff because you assume you'll get another chance.

But as I share in this week podcast episode, one day you WON'T have the chance.

Tomorrow is not promised.

And if you keep waiting for "one day," you may "one day" yourself into missing out entirely...including the chance to be healthy, slim, and strong.

Our Personal Survival Holiday Tips14 Dec 202200:33:59

Christmas is my favorite time of year. I put up Christmas decorations earlier than almost anyone I know.

I love the presents, the trees, the snow, the music, the lights, and the birth of Jesus.

Why I don't love is how much attention FOOD gets.

No, I'm not against having food during holiday celebrations.

But look at the state of our country's health, and it's clear that we emphasize food way more than is good for us.

Instead of thriving during the holidays, we're often just trying to survive them.

And that can feel even more true when you're on a weight loss journey.

What do you do if people drop sweets off at the office to thank you for all the great work you do? How do you respond without feeling rude?

Or how about if you get invited to a friend’s Christmas party, and there's an entire table full of off-plan food? What then?

INTO THE FIRE07 Dec 202200:34:35

In the Bible is a story about three men who were told to bow to the king of Babylon, or face certain death.

This king, Nebuchadnezzar, was so desperate to be worshipped that he not only made people bow to him and his image, but anyone who refused was thrown, ALIVE, into a fiery furnace. 

Even knowing what would happen, three men named Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, refused to bow to Nebuchadnezzar.

(What's more, they were the ONLY people who wouldn't. Everyone else caved in.)

When asked why they refused to bow, these three guys said they didn’t have to because their God would deliver them from anything. (Which, if you've read the story, you know God did.)

They took a LEAP of FAITH. They stuck to their guns because they knew they were making the right choice, even though everyone around them probably thought they were crazy.

Do you sometimes feel like you’re being tested?

Maybe you wonder if you should just throw in the towel and bow down to the diet industry, to a pill for every ill, and to sacrificing good health for addictive foods like everyone else you know...

What Will Your Legacy Be09 Nov 202200:24:20

After my sister, Cari, saw someone die in the ER recently, she said to me, “It’s shocking that something SO devastating can happen, and yet the world just keeps on turning.”

And she's right. People die every day, yet the world keeps going.

Hearing Cari talk about this got me thinking about what my legacy will be.

Will it be a headline that says, “Cristy 'Code Red' Nickel killed in car crash on Highway 55," and then that's it?

Will it be something to do with my bestselling book, The Code Red Revolution, and how it's helped hundreds of thousands of people take their lives back?

Something to do with my boxing career?

And how about you?

Have you thought about what YOUR legacy will be?

Being True To You02 Nov 202200:37:04

After I began boxing to help pay my way through college, some of my loved ones struggled to accept it.

A few HATED that I fought for a living.

Others thought it was a joke and I was just doing it for "fun."

Even after 15 pro fights, some people STILL weren’t happy that I was a boxer. They refused to watch me on TV, and thought it was awful that I was fighting because it was “not Christian” to fight for a living. 

But I stuck with it and climbed the ranks until I was one of the top-rated female fighters on the planet.

Make no mistake...when you choose to live your life as your true, authentic self, you'll get pushback from someone.

You may even be laughed at, rejected, or thrown out of church or people’s lives.

But here's the thing.

When you DON’T have a strong sense of who you are or what's right for you, you’ll spend your life trying to make other people happy, or not “hurt” anybody's feelings, or mold and conform yourself to what other people THINK you should be.

It reminds me of a book I heard about years ago, by an Australian nurse who interviewed a big group of elderly people who were each on their deathbeds.

Their number one regret was living a life based on what other people thought, instead of the life they really wanted.

Don't let this happen to you.

Do Yourself a Favor and Forgive26 Oct 202200:34:31

I really like listening to Joyce Meyer. If you know any of her story, you know she experienced childhood incest for 15 years at the hands of her own biological father.

Yet she was, eventually, able to forgive him. (It doesn't make what he did okay, it just means she decided to stop letting what happened make her miserable.)

Cari and I suffered abuse in childhood (not from our parents - it was someone else), and I was physically, verbally, and emotionally abused by my first husband. We've both had other rotten things happen in our lives, too.

But eventually we learned that harboring the bitterness of unforgiveness in your body and soul is actually a sort of trap, in that it damages YOU, not the person who hurt you.

We've forgiven the people who abused us, because it made us sick not to, same as Joyce Meyer.

So what does all this have to do with losing weight and keeping it off?

Simple. After nearly 30 years in this industry, I've learned time and time again that a lot of people who battle obesity are holding the weight because they're also holding guilt, shame and unforgiveness in their lives.

That's why, in this week's new podcast, Cari and I are revealing how forgiveness helps you stay on track in your Code Red journey.

5 PHRASES TO STOP USING IMMEDIATELY!19 Oct 202200:31:11

After recently being asked "how are you?" by someone who didn't wait to hear me answer, I thought about how often I’ve been asked "how are you?" over the years; and of those times, how few people who asked actually wanted my real answer (or any answer at all).

"How are you?" is one of those canned phrases most people say to be polite, not because they actually wanna know how you are. (Try telling a total stranger how you actually are after they ask just to be polite, and you'll see what I mean!)

I’ve come to HATE some of these canned phrases...so much so I made an entire podcast episode about them to shine a light on why they're diluting our ability to truly connect with others (and, in the case of certain ones, negatively impacting your ability to get and keep the weight off).

Back to Basics: EXERCISE IS NOT THE ANSWER12 Oct 202200:38:41

I spent almost eight years as a professional boxer, fighting at 154 pounds. And I kept and maintained that weight for years during my boxing career.

Then I retired from boxing and took up elite level road cycling in 2010, and things began to change.

Even riding my bike for hundreds of miles some weeks, my weight shot up by 20 pounds. Plus, my skin was ashy and my gut was hanging out, and I really didn’t feel good.

Here I was, doing ALL this exercising, yet not only was I not maintaining my weight (much less losing weight), I was getting fat!

It didn't make ANY sense!

What was I doing wrong??

I'd been taught that you HAVE to exercise to lose weight, yet here I was, the fittest I'd ever been, but also the FATTEST I'd ever been!

This experience is what finally taught me the TRUTH about exercise and weight loss.

While I was in Calgary a few weeks back, I got coffee from the drive-thru of a coffee shop called Tim Horton's.

On the way out of the drive-thru, I spotted a sign that said, "See you tomorrow."

Not, "Have a nice day" or "Thank you for your business," but "See you tomorrow."

On the one hand, it's kinda brilliant. It plants this little seed that you should come back tomorrow, and does it in a subtle way so you don't feel like you're being told what to do.

But in some situations, getting someone to come back is one of the WORST things you can try to do.

And if you're a customer who keeps going back, you could be doing yourself more harm than good in these certain situations.

BACK TO BASICS - Part 2: WATER!05 Oct 202200:42:52

I grew up in a part of Idaho called Grangemont, and while working on our ranch every summer, I’d sweat for hours while taking care of the livestock, then get a headache that lasted for hours.

What's funny about that is that we'd get up at dawn to the smell of fresh coffee, and I couldn't wait to sip my coffee...but I didn’t think about drinking water until way later in the day!

By the time I finally did, I was so thirsty I could barely stand up, and my head throbbed like someone was jamming knives into my temples.

Interestingly, our farm animals were smarter than most humans when it comes to getting their water in. We never had to pester the chickens to drink from their self-watering can, or the horses to gulp from their trough.

After I grew up, left home, and went searching for a career, it became even easier to skip drinking water in favor of coffee, Diet Coke, and other beverages.

It wasn’t until I began studying nutrition that I learned the value of drinking enough water.

Knowing what I know now, I wish I'd been as smart as our animals with regard to taking care of myself.

I can't change the past, but I CAN do better in the present, and teach you to do the same.

"When the kids graduate high school, when the baby is potty trained, when I lose this 50 pounds..."

"When my husband stops drinking, when my wife stops nagging me, then I can have joy in my life."

Any of that sound familiar?

Because that kind of thinking is where a lot of people have trapped themselves.

They wait for outside circumstances to "fix themselves," and in the meantime, stay miserable.

You DON'T have to live that way, but waiting on things to "fix themselves" won't make you happy.

One of my favorite stories from the Bible is about a guy who spent 38 years trying to get healed.

Along with a lot of other people who were sick or crippled, he'd lie next to the pool of Bethesda every day, waiting for a supposed angel of the Lord to come and move the water.

The legend was that whoever first crawled into the water while it was moving got healed.

When Jesus arrived at the pool, he caught this guy whining for someone to help him crawl in.

Jesus asked him if he’d like to be healed, and the man whined, “I have no one to put me in the pool!”

But Jesus didn't let this guy get away with whining. He told him to pick up his bed and walk...and the guy did.

If you want to get the weight off, keep it off, and feel better, whining and excuses won't help you get there, anymore than they helped this guy from the Bible get healed.

Look, if we're being totally honest, here, you've felt like giving up on your weight loss journey.

If not with Code Red, then with a past weight loss attempt.

Heck, maybe you even HAVE given up.

The urge to give up hits us sometimes when stuff gets hard, feels unfair, feels hopeless, feels scary, and so on.

But the urge to quit isn't the problem.

The problem is when we DO quit.

Yeah, it sucks when life throws you a curveball, but missing out on what happens when you keep going is worse.

Seriously, if I'd thrown in the towel after any ONE of the curveballs that led me to create the Code Red Lifestyle™, hundreds of thousands of people would still be hopelessly obese and sick, believing the lie that there was nothing they could do about it.

My point is that you don't know what tomorrow's gonna bring, and when you quit, you don't get to find out.

The Safety of the Barn24 Aug 202200:28:45

Up until recently, my sister, Cari, had THREE peacocks.

One was a strong male, and he knew how evenings worked on the Thompson farm.

He knew to go into the barn at night, because the barn kept him safe from from bobcats, coyotes, and other predators.

But one night a few weeks ago, for whatever reason, he chose not to come back to the barn.

Cari and her husband found him the next day, dead.

If he'd only come back to the safety of the barn, he’d still be with the other birds on Cari's farm.

It's a painful but powerful lesson about the power of staying connected to what keeps you safe.

Case in point: Over and over, even the strongest, most certain Rebels who disconnect from Code Red gain back some, or even all of their weight.

It's not because they're weak or lazy.

It's not because they don't mean it when they say, "I am NEVER gaining my weight back again."

It's because they leave "the safety of the barn," so to speak, and find themselves alone in the mainstream world...which is dedicated to crap health and crap food.

And sooner or later, it takes them out, in the form of weight regain.

But unlike with Cari's peacock, this situation doesn't have to be permanent.

And it MOST definitely can be prevented.

She Was Over 400 Pounds17 Aug 202200:25:00

Are you ready for an incredible message of hope and healing?

If you have ever struggled with your weight get ready to hear a success story from one of our Code Red Rebels, Christine.  

Christine has struggled with her weight her entire life and before she started down the journey of healing she weighed herself at 418 pounds and was truly afraid of the scale and miserable in her life.  Everything was hard, just trying to do simple things that many people are able to do with no problems was hard.  Walking a block was hard, rolling over in bed was hard, literally everything was hard.

As of recording this podcast Christine has lost over 125 pounds since joining the Code Red community.

She has family that are big but this is no longer an excuse. She has had health issues due to her weight but this is no longer an excuse.  People might think it is tough to be on Code Red food plan but the truth is being overweight is what is restrictive.

A fun question that was asked was in this episode was "how did you even find Code Red?"

Christine's answer is was better and more detailed when you watch or listen to this episode but the very short version of this was an Instagram post from her friend.  Talk about the right timing or being in the right place or having the belief that god is there to provide the moment that you need the answer.

Real food, water, sleep and prayer are the main reasons that Christine was able to do what she has be able to do so far in her weight loss journey and she's not done yet.  She has beat her original goal and now she has new goals.

Anyone can lose weight! But can you keep it off? Hear how this Rebel and business owner kept her weight off even during vacations, and in the face of travel, stress, and life. Marley Jaxx, our guest in this episode, is a YouTube Agency that works with entrepreneurs and influencers to create their video content on YouTube.  Marley got on to Code Red and lost 20 pounds. She stayed Code Red through the holidays and through travelling which was almost every week. What we get to know during the course of the interview with her on the podcast is that she has found travelling to have made her more conscious of choices that gel with her decision to go Code Red.

And everything above is still true today but unfortunately, we have a more serious subject to discuss that has happened in Marley’s journey through life.

 

This interview you get to hear the story of Marley’s diagnosis and the challenging decisions she had to make to fight against the cancer.

 

One incredible thing we get to hear is Marley didn't cope by eating, which she felt that before going through the Code Red programs she could have been using food as a coping mechanism.  But surprisingly, it wasn't in this case.

 

Because she knew the importance of health and nutrition. For this new diagnosis, she didn't even think about going to sugar or carbs or anything like that for comfort food.

 

Marley continues with her story and the choices she was going to have to make and while this is NOT MEDICAL ADVICE, Marley choose to avoid surgery and work to understand the root cause.

 

She decided to be smart with her sleep, her water, and her food.

 

And she worked to really figure out why her body had created an environment to get cancer and how she could create a new environment that her body could work to heal itself.

There are three months out of the year when a higher than normal percentage of people try to lose weight.

It's interesting to see how many people mindlessly fall into the pattern of waiting until one of these three months.

So why is it even an issue?

Because when you wait for them (even if you don't realize that's what you're doing), you're programming yourself for failure...

Just like you are when you think you should wait until Monday, or until you're not on your monthly cycle, or until some other outside circumstance falls into place and life is perfect.

The reality is that you're ready when YOU decide you're ready.

When you get yourself to that point, nothing will stop you.

I know because I see it all the time.

Attack Your Problems27 Jul 202200:31:39

How many times in our lives have we come to battle, saw the giant, and then run the other way? Stop making excuses, stop being afraid!

The story of David and Goliath from the Bible actually tells the strong faith and deep love of God David had. When the champion Goliath came everybody ran off and David was there to witness this, he then talked to the king and as he wanted to defeat the giant becuase God was with him.

David was told by many that he couldn’t defeat Goliath and that he was crazy for thinking he could. Not even Goliath thought David could defeat him as Goliath was trash talking David. David ran towards the giant facing him, he took out his stone, slung it and struck Goliath on the forehead.

You can read the whole story of David and Goliath in your bible but the point is David attacked his problems and people trash talking him or didn’t believe in him along the way. David believed in God and had faith in doing what was right.

Many people who trash talk you when you’re up to something and they will say things like, you can’t do this thing or your ideas are stupid etc. But you have to attack the problem like David did, straight on.

The problem is not the actual problem, it's how you respond to the problem that is the problem. When we make a proper plan, and we attack the problem head on we can take care of even the hardest problems.

Whenever you've picked your path, take steps to make it happen. (no matter how small!)

Controlling For The Variables20 Jul 202200:30:36

You'll never get the weight off if you can't manage your impulses in the moment.

I get it. You're at a party and everyone's eating "what they want, when they want." You feel like you're missing out because you aren't eating the same thing at the same time as other people at the party.

But by showing restraint in that moment, you're also moving closer to your goal of getting this freaking weight off.

Remember that the ability to delay gratification is a trait successful people share, and just because you feel an impulse to eat something in the moment doesn't mean you have to act on it.

There will always be another pizza, another bottle of wine, another can of soda, and another bag of chips. You've had them before, you know what they taste like, and they've done you no favors.

So control the variables, control the food in your house, control the situations you put yourself in. Find a way to not be in the situation that could lead to a bad decision for your health and your weight.

Not every single variable is under your control, but many variables are. Control the ones you can control, and create an environment for success.

We're all in a fight of some sort, some mental and some are physical. I know a thing or two about fights and fighting your fight. Being an ex professional boxer is all about mental and physical toughness.

To fight the good fight is to do the right thing and to try to get others to do the same. Someone who is fighting the good fight is working tirelessly to try and make good choices and help others. This person wants to improve the world around her.

Do you need permission to Fight Your Fight? NO others do not need to give you permission, YOU need to give permission to yourself.

You have the capacity to provide solutions,
The problem IS the problem.

Once you’re able to identify the REAL problem,
So, fix the problem!

Stop blaming your body. Stop attributing your obesity to your genes. Your genes determine where fat builds up, not IF and WHEN you will get fat.

Consider that maybe it’s the kind or quantity of food you eat that’s the problem. Or your mindset. Or the people you hang out with. Or the media you choose to engage with. You owe it to yourself to figure it out.

That’s the nature of good health. It’s multifaceted! It’s a combination of several choices that you have to make!

You have trained, you have worked at it. Now TRUST it and continue to take the action needed!

Being unhappy is a baggage you keep choosing to lug around.

No matter where you go, whom you’re with and what’s happening around you, you are where you are – with the same crap you choose to lug around.

Problem is you never seem to be the one to blame for your own pain and suffering…

It’s your age. It’s your knees. It’s the host, the food they chose to prepare, the peer pressure, and the list goes on!

That’s why you’re sad, why you’re binge-eating, why you’re sick and tired and overweight…but still carrying that baggage.

And after a long day of whining and cussing at the wretched life you currently have, you hit the hay, only to wake up the next day for another bout with yesterday’s tragedy.

“When does it stop”, you wonder.

When you stop lugging around your baggage – insecurities, negative self-talk, constant self-doubt, hesitance in taking responsibility for your own happiness!

Stop, even just for a moment, to think about how you have the power to make yourself happy!

In Code Red, we believe in your power!

You CAN choose to inspire and be inspired to take action against obesity and the insecurities they bring.

You CAN choose to believe in yourself, your weight loss program and the proper human diet, regardless of what anyone has to say about your chosen lifestyle!

Behind the mockery is some form of truth that should hurt.

Forget about the name-calling. Never mind getting called a “ninny”.

What you really should be sensitive about is why all the jeering keep getting on your nerves!

Is it the person making fun of you that’s causing you to get all hyped? Is it their choice of words? Or maybe it’s the truth behind the mockery – the uncomfortable truth you keep denying!?

Honestly, haven’t we become “pansies”, even just a little, now that we’ve got so much technology and innovations making our lives “easier”? Don’t we whine more, for less (hassle and stress), now that we’ve become too addicted to comfort?

It’s worth examining our lives to see how much we’ve held ourselves back in favor of comfort.

You used to embrace the grind, loved learning new things, enjoyed exploring fresh ideas, and gave a damn about your health…

But now, you can’t be bothered to pick up a book, clean and organize your home, chase your dreams or eat healthy – basically anything that’s borderline “troublesome”.

In CodeRed, we don’t tolerate judgmental remarks, more so, bullying! However, we also don’t tolerate any forms of addiction – including “comfort” that holds you back from achieving the healthy body you deserve to have.

Let the haters hate. But we can’t discount the weight their words might hold.

Because somewhere behind those heckles is an uncomfortable truth we need to accept in order for us to grow.

Today, let’s talk about taking less offense in and taking more action on things that can drive you out of your comfort zone and towards the healthy life you desire.

Knockout The Lies22 Jun 202200:35:57

The world is already full of lies, but none of those need to come from you...

Because lies that come from ourselves are the hardest to overcome.

Someone outside you tells you you're fine, but you know you're not, so you dismiss it because you know it's not true.

However, the moment you tell yourself you “feel” fine, even at 80lbs overweight and battling six different chronic conditions, the lie becomes much harder to ignore.

The longer you entertain the lie, the more “real” it feels, until you can no longer distinguish it from the truth.

And that’s when tragedy strikes!

People typically act on truths.

With false beliefs at the helm, we alter our actions and responses to enable those beliefs, to the detriment of our REAL goals.

Maybe you’re sick, overweight and hurting all over. But in believing that these problems are just figments of your imagination, or "not that big of a deal," you deny yourself much needed solutions.

So, ask yourself…

Are you truly OKAY?

Or is there a better life that you ought to be living?

Let’s talk about how we can separate the truth from lies we tell ourselves, and why knocking these lies out is key to achieving the body and life you TRULY DESIRE!

Social Media vibes are like: Feelings first…making sense last!

True, isn’t it?

How all the butthurt keyboard warriors are tearing down what could be a healthy and productive environment with their feelings?

Back then, the internet primarily carried a hefty bunch of reliable informative resources. But it has grown to become the heavily opinion-based “grieving” ground.

People are influenced to become “woke”, and to shout at the top of their lungs what they think and feel…

With little to no regard for what is true and what RIGHTFULLY NEEDS TO BE DONE.

People will hate us for telling them to get rid of sugar like it’s some sort of violation against their rights. They’ll make ugly remarks on not needing “that much” water. They’ll justify why they get very little sleep.

But the truth stands!

Is someone listening?

The question a lot of us are always eager to ask but reluctant to hear the answer.

Because what if no one is listening?

If we can easily be offended when we’re talking to a friend while s/he is lazily scrolling on her/his phone, what more when we’re desperate for help and no one seems to return our call?!

Maybe you’re an entrepreneur trying to market your product to an audience, or a mom yelling for someone to take the laundry out the dryer because you’re busy cooking, or an obese person praying for a chance to take your life back…

You want to know if someone’s listening but you’re afraid to know there’s no one there.

Well, there’s ALWAYS someone listening!

But even in times there aren’t any other people around, remember that there’s always YOU who has the power to choose the outcome of your life.

You can’t control everything BUT change what you can.

Be accountable for what you know and take action!

If no one is listening to your spiels, change the spiel or change your product!

If no one is at home to help you out, change your schedule so chores don’t coincide.

Change isn’t the enemy.

Advancements in technology and other fields aren’t inherently good nor bad! It’s what we make of these changes that matter.

And so why should we stop ourselves from experiencing and leveraging these in order to better our lives?

It’s stubbornness that’s the true enemy.

Stuck in our old ways, we leave so many opportunities on the table!

We need to understand that when an opportunity – to improve our quality of life, to thrive – presents itself, it’s up to us to embrace the change.

But we can count on stubbornness to put up a fight. Accepting change won’t be always easy, especially when change comes in quick succession.

Change can be overwhelming. We might have to put in the work in order to keep up, but that’s no excuse to throw opportunities down the drain.

In any aspect of life, especially in health and wellness, throw out what no longer serves your purpose. Throw out what no longer makes you happy. Make way for the new things that will send you in a direction of better!

Still think excessive sugar has no repercussions to your health?

Still reluctant about accepting the idea that there’s no shortcut to becoming healthy?

Still believe your current circle of friends will help you get you to goal weight?

You’re sick, tired, obese and can barely call your existence a life. Consider that it’s time to make a paradigm shift!

Throw out the sugar, along with the ego, and maybe these so-called “friends” too.

In the end, change is inevitable…

Will you let nature take its course, sending you (and your body) on the wrong side of change or will you finally embrace a NEW and Better lifestyle?

Sales at all COSTS14 Aug 202400:32:24

This week’s episode is about how to avoid “sales at all costs” companies that don’t care about your success.

Here’s an example of what I mean.

On July 7, a guy pulled out in front of me. I couldn't stop in time and T-boned him, leaving me without a vehicle.

I decided to buy a Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40, as I'd always wanted a vehicle like that, and it's a good vehicle for summer.

I found one in Lake Tahoe, bought it, and made arrangements with a car transport company to drive it to me in Boise.

The transport company told me they'd get it to me in one to three days, and it would cost over $600.

😬 Sheesh, but I agreed to their terms, because it might cost me that much to fly down there and drive it back myself.

Well, one day passed, and nothing.

Then two days passed. Still nothing.

I called them to make sure everything was going okay, and they said they were still looking for a driver.

They also suddenly clarified that when they said they'd get it to me in one to three days, they really meant they'd "try" to.

THEN they said, "If you really want your rig picked up, we can do a 'guaranteed' pick-up, but that will be double the price."

😡

They also told me it would be extra because my FJ40 had a winch on the front.

But here's the real kicker.

When they told me about their "guaranteed pick-up," they said they'd "give it the old college try."

Uh no. I ain't paying you $1500 for a "college try." It's either a guarantee or it's not.

I ended up paying someone local (and unaffiliated with this company) to drive down and get the FJ40 for me.

I was telling Andrea (Code Red's Director of Coaching) about all this, and she said, "Yeah, so many companies out there will do ANYTHING to make sales at all costs, even if it means destroying the long-term relationship with their customers."

THAT is exactly why you've gotta be careful about stuff that sounds too good to be true (like magic shots or gimmicks that promise you don't have to make any changes to get and keep the weight off).

Some companies have zero problem telling you whatever fantasy they think you wanna hear in order to get you to buy their crap.

There are plenty of GOOD companies out there, too.

Sometimes, the best thing anyone can do for themselves is to sit still and do nothing.

HO HO HO! We can smell ‘em keyboard warriors rearing to smack us with some self-righteous ideals from miles away!

There’s bound to be someone who’ll read this and say, “that’s just lazy!”

Or maybe something along the lines of, “not everyone’s a privileged schmuck who can afford to bum around…”.

We can’t blame them because in the context of the recent/on-going pandemic, where a lot of people lost their livelihood, telling someone to “sit still” just seems so inconsiderate, maybe even offensive.

And so, we’re obliged to extend the context…

When was the last time you made time for yourself? When was the last time you considered the state of your HEALTH above things like work and responsibilities?

A heck load of people have become so addicted to being BUSY to the point where they’ve NEGLECTED the truly important things like health and family. And for what?

There’s this mentality that success equates to hustling and grinding, overcommitting and overextending oneself, else, running themselves to the ground. Like that’s the only way to provide for their families, meet the demands of daily life, and maybe one day, earn the right to “live the dream”.

But what if there was another way?

A way that promotes productivity instead of being busy.

A way that puts more weight on progress rather than the motions.

A way where you get to REALLY LIVE!

Maybe it’s time to consider sitting down to think of how you can dent your goals, and doing nothing that antagonizes your health (more), instead of aimlessly hammering at things that don't really matter!

Fight-or-flight response is an evolutionary survival mechanism that’s wreaking havoc in our lives today, and most of us don’t even realize it!

It is a primitive reaction that triggers the release of hormones and other chemicals in the body to help us respond to a perceived threat, whether real or imagined.

Basically, it’s genetic instructions that tell us to run when we can and fight only as a last resort.

What’s troubling is that this crude mechanism, though still applicable in today’s settings, is causing us more harm than good.

Because we’re not meant to simply survive...we all NEED to THRIVE!

Here’s where it gets tricky: it seems like most of us will keep running away from living a healthy lifestyle until they no longer can, at which point, “fighting” is no longer an option.

Why run from healthy living?

It’s because most of us have grown accustomed and comfortable with eating junk food, drinking alcohol, and getting little to no sleep – to the point where real food, water and sleep have become “threatening” to a “way of life”.

Here’s some news to get things into perspective…

Not getting your dose of sugary treats or your buzz from booze or missing an episode of your fave sitcom aren’t threats…

Poor health and obesity are the REAL THREATS! And we keep running towards ‘em every darn time!

This has GOT TO CHANGE! And part of that change is creating a mindset where the fight-or-flight response serves our purpose (and not the other way around).

Today, let’s talk about harnessing this powerful mechanism, learning to stand and fight, and moving from a state of survival to a state where we all can thrive!

In the grander scheme of things, we’re all uniquely gifted to serve a purpose – the best way we can positively impact others!

Basically, everything on earth (even the most mundane of things, like a rock or a shrub) was made to serve a purpose. We are no exception to this!

Some are called to become world-class performers and entertainers, teachers and coaches, or entrepreneurs and inventors. For others, it’s simpler (but NOT less important) like being a parent, a son or daughter, or a friend.

Each of our unique purposes are meant to contribute to a higher purpose: for all life to thrive and prosper!

In finding that purpose, you stand to gain the LIFE YOU TRULY DESIRE!

In CodeRed, we’re fortunate enough to be able to serve our communities as teachers who educate others about living a healthy lifestyle, and as warriors fighting against the plague that is obesity (and all diseases it entails).

None of us here knew exactly, from the very beginning, what our TRUE PURPOSE was.

Age old question:

“If practice makes perfect and yet no one can be perfect, why practice?”

We’ve found that even a seemingly ridiculous and sarcastic question can bring the most powerful of lesson!

From big groups like political administrations, business leadership and school councils, down to us individuals, we’re all prone to making wrong choices. Wars have broken out, civilizations crumbled, lives lost, and yet here we are, humans who keep on going!

Because NEWS FLASH!!!

Wrong choices DON’T have to be the last ones anyone makes!

Understand that “perfection” isn’t what’s being asked of us…

We’re asked to do our best, give our all, and keep going, for a BETTER FUTURE.

And often, the “Best” is fruit of doing the NEXT RIGHT THING!

This applies to many aspects of our lives, including Health and Weight Loss!

Like children rebuilding sandcastles lost to the waves, we’re asked to take back our lives with creativity, willingness, eagerness, and with a big smile.

Not Everyone Wants Your Help13 Apr 202200:35:01

People may not respond to one truth but may respond to another.

Put a frog in a steel pot with cool water and it’s going to stay there, almost still. Place the pot over the stove and turn up the heat. Seeing the frog’s predicament, you know it’s going to need your help, but that frog’s not going to try to get itself out until the water heats up to an uncomfortable temperature.

Isn’t that how it is with most people? We can see they're in dire need of losing excess weight, but until they start feeling the need to help themselves, they’re not going to want help.

No matter what you say, even the truth about obesity, if people choose not to hear you out, there’s just no convincing them!

We’re not asking you to give up on your loved ones, rather, we’re asking you to acknowledge that there are other truths that may garner positive responses…

Like the truth about needing time and space to figure things out for themselves. Or the truth that there’s someone else better suited to help them. And so, we offer them these!

In the meantime, we keep sowing seeds of truth that we pray will grow into realizations, until they blossom into actions toward taking their lives back!

While you’re at it, why don’t you expand your garden and sow more seeds in other places, in other people.

They’re not all going to blossom all at the same time, so focus your efforts on buds that have opened up and are now willing to accept your help, so that they can start towards the healthy life they ought to have!

We're not about to downplay the part that knowledge plays in weight loss. Getting to goal weight means taking the RIGHT kinds of actions, and knowledge will TELL you what those are.

Nope, going to the gym and sweating it out non-stop IS NOT the right action (at least not for weight loss). You can be physically active and still be overweight at the same time!

What you need: REAL Food, Water AND Sleep!

"HAHA! Joke's on you, I know that!" - but do you?

It's hard to tell because even with all that knowledge, you seem to still be lugging around excess weight that we should've gotten off of you months/seasons/years ago...

And this idea applies to many different aspects of your life! Whether you want to get to goal weight, learn how to swim, get a degree, find a job, among other endeavors, you want to be where rubber meets the road!

Having the knowledge IS important! But it will only get you so far. Who or what you know might land you your first job, but in future cases, companies will ask for your experience. They’ll ask not just what you know, but what you did!

Everyone envisions themselves having taken their lives back. Knowledge is the map and taking action will get you to the healthy life you deserve.

The First Round Is Always The Hardest30 Mar 202200:33:05

Finding a way around the difficulty of the first round is futile…

BUT getting started and moving towards the healthy body you deserve is not!

The first round will ALWAYS be hard BUT it gets EASIER! It’s always the same, whether in boxing, in learning how to ride a bike or drive a car, in getting acquainted with your office’s culture, even in meeting new people and building relationships, and most especially in weight loss.

The difficulty is not for lack of experience. None of us were born knowing what we know now. Before any of us could run, we all had to (literally) take baby steps.

Taking those first steps…was it difficult? Of course! Our bones and muscles had to form and support our weight. Our motor skills had to develop. Our bodies needed to find our balance.

It was probably difficult for our parents too, watching us fall down again and again. Yet here we are today, making our parents, family, and friends proud. Learning. Knowing. Doing. Succeeding. Rinsing and repeating.

Weight loss shouldn’t be anything different!

Take those baby steps! Break down the goal into smaller chunks that you can tackle one at a time.

Get started by clearing sugar out of your home. Get acquainted with REAL food. Ease your way into drinking lots of water. Find comfort in getting enough sleep. Before you know it, you’ll be racing towards learning more about the healthy lifestyle you should be living.

Find a rhythm. Build momentum. Form habits.

That's the way to go if you want to shed the weight and achieve the healthy body you deserve!

Achieving good health starts with creating space where there was none before.

We’re talking about understanding that our reality involves Mutually Exclusive Events – things that cannot coexist at the same TIME and SPACE!

For example…you can’t be running and walking at the same time. You can’t be turning left and right, or moving forward and backwards at the same time.

People can argue that it’s a matter of perspective. But from your viewpoint – the perspective that matters most in YOUR life – which direction are you headed and how fast are you going?

There’re tons of mutually exclusive events in our lives, an important one being: you CAN’T be unhealthy AND healthy at the same time! For one to exist, the other has GOT to GO! Simply put…

When it comes to health and weight loss, we have to let go of some things – food, clothes, habits, and even people – in order to accommodate the “NEW YOU” that you desire.

You want…

To lose weight? Say goodbye to old eating habits that got you fat.

A healthy body? Bid farewell to sugar, junk/processed foods, alcohol, and other toxic substances.

To focus on the future? Get rid of your “FAT Pants” that keep dragging you towards the past.

A more positive outlook on life? Hasta la vista to negative self-talk and people who keep pulling you down.

Instead…

Say hello to good eating habits, real food, water and sleep, a better tomorrow, and confidence that resonates with like-minded people!

Set yourself up for success!

It all comes down to making the tough choices. Don’t be afraid to rid yourself of what society says you “need”. Keep only what makes you truly happy and those that serve your purpose: Achieving the healthy life that you deserve!

Rejecting What Is "Normal"16 Mar 202200:21:32

Normal is NOT always what SHOULD BE.

The idea of being normal is one that has been deeply ingrained in our minds. We have been conditioned to believe that there is a right way and a wrong way to do things.

But what is normal?

How do we define it? Is it what the majority of people think, or a set of rules which society has dictated over time?

“Boys will be boys.”

“Nice girls don't.”

“Girls take care of their weight because they need to be attractive.”

“Boys can be fat and still get a girl.”

Should girls really work on their weight for aesthetics? Is it okay for boys to be fat? Shouldn’t the point of taking care of one’s body, regardless of sex or gender, be for health?

We’ve got to think about these things…

Just because something’s normal in the eyes of many, doesn’t mean it’s RIGHT thing to do.

This is especially true when it comes to health and wellness!

Shouldn't we all encourage healthy behaviors instead of shunning those who are trying to improve themselves in whatever way possible? Doesn't it make more sense to give people the right information instead of discouraging them with our words or actions? Isn't it important to correct misinformation instead of blindly following ineffective/harmful trends that have been going around the industry since ages?

More importantly, when someone else is right, isn’t it only logical that WE are the ones to CHANGE our ways instead of asking them to conform?

We’re not in the habit of arguing because we want to be right. When it comes down to it, we argue because we know what’s right and we want others to know what we do, and to do the things that will get them to the healthy body they deserve to have.

The Past is for learning the things we can do differently at Present so that we can create a Future worth looking forward to.

If you're like most people, there are probably a few things you'd change if you could go back in time and be healthier. But how many of those things have you actually changed? Maybe none? That's because today is the only day that matters when it comes to your health.

The fact is that tomorrow may never come. Today is the only day we can change our lives, and the first step starts with understanding the values you can learn from yesterday.

What got you fat? What triggered your hypertension? What led to your type 2 diabetes?

More Importantly, what can you do differently NOW, in order to get to the future you WANT to enjoy?

Forgive us for assuming but…a lot of you might be saying, “I know what I need to do”.

In truth, you might have known for a while now, the things you SHOULD DO, so what’s the hold up?

There is a strong underlying idea that we can’t be happy until we accomplish something.

It might be a degree, a new job, a better body or the perfect relationship. And it’s not only tangible achievements like these. We also have the idea that we must reach certain levels of mental and spiritual attainment before we can be happy.

The problem with this viewpoint is that it keeps us stuck in the same cycle of “I’ll be happy when…”

We keep putting off our happiness for another day — for when we get that thing — and in the meantime, we become frustrated, stressed and unfulfilled. This mentality keeps us from doing the things we want to do for fear of not doing them perfectly or achieving them perfectly or being ready for them.

And at the same time, those who do achieve their goals often find themselves still feeling empty inside because they never stopped to ask themselves what they wanted out of life beyond just achieving these goals.

How many times have you delayed getting to goal weight? Once you do achieve goal weight, what of it? What does reaching your goals mean to you?

In this episode, we want to shine the light on YOU!

It’s YOU who can define what you truly want. It’s YOU who needs to appreciate the ups and downs in your journey to good health. It’s YOU who can decide what you’ll make of the experiences along the way, and the benefits of reaching goal weight.

This is why I believe that happiness comes from within and not from any external factors.

This is why we believe that taking responsibility for your own happiness is vital for enjoying the results of your hard work towards the healthy life you deserve.
