| Prabha Nandagopal on finding her second wind | 23 Sep 2025 | 00:34:22 | |
Prabha Nandagopal is a force. She’s a human rights and discrimination lawyer who’s worked on big national enquiries on immigration detention law and policy and Respect@Work. She’s also a woman of colour who became a single mum at just 10 days postpartum. And when you add those things together, it’d be easy to conclude that in life and in work, the odds have been stacked against her. But, as you’re about to hear, Prabha has always considered herself a rebel and a changemaker, and she’s made a career out of it. From her experience navigating a challenging conception journey and life as a single mum to the ways in which motherhood has impacted her for the better, this is a story that is inspiring and comforting in equal measure. — This episode was brought to you by Yoto. | Dr Katie on switching from mum mode to work mode | 16 Sep 2025 | 00:56:47
Often, when work is feeling stressful, I think to myself, Lucy, you’re not saving lives, why are you letting this get to you so much? And then I think to myself, wait, how do the parents that ARE saving lives in their day job navigating it all? So I had to bring on Dr Katie to answer that question. She’s an emergency doctor, she’s a mother of three, she’s much loved for the content she creates for social media, her husband is a stay at home dad, and her beautiful boy Alexander is autistic and non-speaking. And so, as you can imagine, her life is very full, and she’s here to tell us all about it – how her sense of identity has changed while moving through her career and parenting journey, the unique challenges and joys that come with parenting an autistic child, why finding community support is crucial and what a week in the life actually looks like for the busy mum. This conversation is particularly close to my heart as an auntie to a very similar child, and I thank Katie for sharing her story so vulnerably with us. — This episode was brought to you by Yoto. | Navigating teenagers, perimenopause and the rise of AI with Odette Barry | 09 Sep 2025 | 00:53:35
Odette Barry is one of those people that you just want to learn from. She’s a publicist, PR mentor, and the founder of PR agency Odette & Co, and she’s found her niche and passion in amplifying the voices of purpose-driven leaders. But while her business and place within it might look crystal clear now, it wasn’t always the case. She became a mum at 22, and at the time, she felt as though she didn’t have any goals or ambitions for herself outside of motherhood. Here, she tells us all about this journey, including the dark times she’s had to overcome and why sometimes the hardest bits are always followed by great change; she likens it to that transition phase, the “I can’t do it” stage of birth. In amongst it all, we also talk raising teenagers, navigating perimenopause, why she’s trying to work less, and navigating using AI in business while facing the reality of its impact on climate collapse. — This episode was brought to you by Yoto. | The difference between success and happiness with Sarah Davidson | 02 Sep 2025 | 00:51:31
In 2014, Sarah Davidson stumbled upon what she calls the great happy accident, which set her on a journey of quitting her job as a lawyer to become an entrepreneur, bestselling author, MC and host of the Seize the Yay podcast. She loved her job, and she loved the idea of feeling as though she was successful in the traditional sense, but after a life changing trip, she started to realise that actually, success and happiness are two completely separate concepts. And here, we hear all about the journey she went on, which almost feels like the career version of matrescence. A metamorphosis of self. Here, we talk about the importance of exploring great instead of good, how she actually made her career pivot, how detrimental a lack of sleep feels as a new mum, and what it was like to go to a speaking gig just days after a D&C procedure for her pregnancy loss. — This episode was brought to you by Yoto. | Why Holly Garber doesn’t do mum guilt | 26 Aug 2025 | 00:52:32
Holly Garber is one of those people that you just want to learn from. Before she shifted her focus to career advisory and coaching, she ran her successful communications agency Golightly PR, where she worked with the likes of camilla and marc, Dion Lee and UNIQLO. But, the all consuming nature of that job coupled with mothering two small children eventually led Holly to reconsider her career life. And, she noticed it among others too, too often seeing people strive to build businesses that didn’t bring them joy, and that led them to give up too much life along the way. And so in amongst hearing about her motherhood and career journey, in this incredible chat with Holly, I feel like I received a mini working mum therapy and coaching session that I feel better off for having. — Thanks for listening! | Lana Murphy on the moment she realised she wanted to be a mum | 19 Aug 2025 | 00:52:45
When I first met Lana Murphy, there was one description that quickly came to mind: sunshine in a human. She’s fun, she’s warm, she loves a yarn, and so, it’s unsurprising that when she’s not with her son, she spends her work days as a journalist working for Channel 9. And while she’s now excitedly awaiting her second baby, she didn’t always want to be a mum. So here, we find out what changed and what she’d go back and tell herself about what to expect from motherhood. She also tells us about her early days of cutting her teeth in journalism by heading to the bush and living in her family’s caravan, and what it’s been like returning to a demanding job and preparing to go on parental leave 2.0. This is such a fun conversation and I appreciate the way Lana so honestly describes the push-pull that so many women face when it comes to the question of motherhood and what the biggest role of all might mean for their career. — Thanks for listening! | Why you don’t need to have it all figured out with Roisin Tarrant | 12 Aug 2025 | 01:03:48
Roisin Tarrant might be one of the most requested Ready or Not guests to date. And sure, part of the reason is because she’s built an incredible online following and has been generous in sharing her motherhood and career journey to date. And of course, it’s partly because her interior projects are inspiring and there’s something so earnest about the way she shares parts of her life with us. But really, I think it’s her positive outlook on motherhood that draws so many mums in to listen when she speaks. And, it’s intentional – she made a decision early on that she was going to embrace motherhood as best as she knew how, and here we hear all about it. Plus, she tells us how hard she found her first return to work, why she’s comfortable accepting that her identity is nearly entirely wrapped up in motherhood right now, what it was like to find out she was having twins, and how she has redesigned her career life to fit in with motherhood. I already knew that she was great, but it’s fair to say I now understand why so many people wanted to hear from her. So let’s get into it. I’m Lucinda, this is Ready or Not, and here’s the warm and wise Roisin Tarrant. — Thanks for listening! If you liked the show, please tell your friends, subscribe or write a review. | Kath Carlin on feeling selfish for only wanting one child | 15 Jul 2025 | 00:51:01
When Kath Carlin finally decided to stop trying for a second baby, part of her was kind of relieved. The journey had been arduous, and privately, she felt like she was only meant to be a mum of one. She wasn’t quite sure she was allowed to say it out loud, but she wasn’t sure she even wanted a second baby. And then, she fell pregnant naturally. But her journey wouldn’t end there. There’d be a potential diagnosis on the cards, but ultimately, she would lose that baby, too. After that, she was done with trying and now, a year and a half later, she couldn’t be happier to be the mum of one child. It’s surprising to me that in 2025, this is still a pretty unique story, and here, we explore why. Where does that pressure to have multiple kids come from? How does she feel all about it now? Here, we explore this and so much more, including her incredibly successful career as a makeup artist and the hilarious birth story that wasn’t the red carpet plan she had in mind. — Thanks for listening! | Monique Milenkovic on finding purpose through grief | 08 Jul 2025 | 00:45:30
After experiencing the stillbirth of her firstborn, baking became a sort of therapy for Monique Milenkovic. She’d left her corporate job to go on parental leave, her calendar was clear, and with no baby in her arms, her life took an unexpected life altering turn. That direction would lead her to The Cupcake Queens – her thriving business with eight stores and a delivery service across Melbourne. But if growing her business wasn’t stretching her enough, after the loss of her son Nicholas, she’d go on to have a further five children. And you might be wondering how – I know we sure were – but you’ll learn quickly, as we did, that Monique takes it all in her stride. She doesn’t sugar coat it, she’ll tell you it’s hard to navigate motherhood and business, but she’s also a glass half full type of woman. And so, this conversation was incredibly uplifting, and with so much devastating news permeating the news cycle, I think we could all use something uplifting right now. So let’s hear from Monique. — Thanks for listening! If you liked the show, please tell your friends, subscribe or write a review. | The hallucinations that tricked Chloe Cox into believing she wasn’t a good mum | 01 Jul 2025 | 00:51:18
What Chloe Cox talks about today might just be the bravest thing anyone’s ever shared on this show. After the birth of her first daughter, she was hallucinating. There was a toy dog in the room where she fed and it was telling her that she’d never be able to get her daughter to sleep, that she was a terrible mother. She was going about her day looking like a mum who was thriving. She attended a mother’s group and kept up appearances. But as night fell, she was in a world of pain and confusion. Here, we talk about how she got through that time, the beauty of the age gap between her two girls, the power of the positive postpartum and return to work that came with her second, and the importance of shared parental leave. This is an incredible story, told from someone who’s as kind and funny as she is brilliant and honest. Find her on Instagram here. This month, Ready or Not is proudly brought to you by Yoto.
