Interview with Andrew Bush, Director of Metal Force26 Sep 202300:20:17

Tyler sat down virtually with Andrew Bush, director of the Kickstarter tokusatsu project Metal Force. The project aims to create a horror-tinged short. The project is about a metal band that gets abducted by aliens and granted superpowers. It has raised more than $4,000, twice its initial goal. Funding closes next Monday.

From The Rangercast Vault: Power Rangers Press Panel at Anime Central 200811 Aug 202300:53:07

Summer travel plans are forcing us into a brief hiatus, We expect to be back in late August to talk about news including Lionsgate's planned acquisition of Entertainment One.

For this episode, we turn the clock back to 2008 and Anime Central in Chicago. Jason David Frank, Robert Axelrod, Steve Cardenas and Karan Ashley held court for fan press at one of the first conventions to invite guests from the franchise. Here unguarded reminiscing on the show's early days and lots of laughs. Thanks to Lisa J of No Pink Spandex for her help in recording the original episode from whence this came and to Rangercast listener Lee Sands for saving the file after all these years.

Tyler and Josh talk about the news (or lack thereof) out of San Diego Comic-Con. Hasbro's repositioning and the ongoing strikes of the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA may keep us waiting a while for the future of Power Rangers. In the meantime, the Lightning Collection line will be put on pause. We talk about the series of events that got us here and the people and events responsible for Power Rangers' apparent second-class status in the Hasbro empire.

From The Rangercast Vault: Interview with Robert Axelrod (2006)23 May 202300:15:17

For scheduling reasons, we are taking a few weeks off. But we're not leaving you empty-handed.

Robert Axelrod is best known for being the voice of Lord Zedd and Finster, among other things, on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. A prolific voice actor, he followed Tony Oliver and other Robotech regulars over to Saban. His credits included Wizardmon and Ankylomon from Digimon, Emperor Darius in the William Winckler Productions dub of Dino Mech Gaiking and various roles in shows like Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo and Hajime no Ippo. In later years, he reached broader audiences through his work with the comedy duo Tim and Eric. He died in 2019 after a long illness.

In 2006, he gave about 20 minutes of his time to a nervous 17-year-old kid. Here is a lightly edited version of that conversation.

Talking Tokusatsu with Mike Dent05 Jan 202301:43:56

Tyler and Lamar welcome voice actor, graphic designer and writer Mike Dent. Dent, a former Rangercast co-host, also created the podcast R5 Central and hosted Otaku USA's Friday ACE Podcast for a spell. More recently, he's had a hand in tokusatsu projects for Shout! Factory and Discotek Media. We ask him about his origin story and get him to explain the staying power of Space Sheriff Gavan.

Also, we discuss toy news and leaks, the current whereabouts of a key Masked Rider prop and mourn the passing of the legendary anison singer Ichiro Mizuki. Mizuki had an association with Super Sentai dating back to JAKQ Dengekitai.

Rangercast Episode 6: Cosmic Fury Reveals At Hasbro PulseCon05 Oct 202200:32:37

Even after the big reveal at Power Morphicon (or, more precisely, the big reveal at 11 p.m. the night before the panel), fans believed Hasbro had more up their sleeve. And boy did they ever. Tyler, Lamar and (later) Primo talk about the toy news and show news out of Hasbro PulseCon, including the state of the show's relationship with Toei and a heretofore unrevealed 30th-anniversary project that's just wrapping in Auckland.

This episode is as spoiler-free as possible as to the new episodes of Dino Fury (which you should watch) and the 100th issue of the Power Rangers comics (which you should read).

Rangercast Episode 5: SPD Retrospective21 Sep 202200:53:15

Tyler, Lamar and Tori take a fond look at SPD and wonder, with 2025 right around the corner, whether Cosmic Fury will offer a return to New Tech City.

In news, Hasbro Pulse Con promises unspecified Power Rangers announcements. Alpha Stunts is back on the job. One Power Rangers alum is acting opposite a pair of greats.

In toku news, Shin Ultraman goes global. An American love letter to tokusatsu hits the festival circuit. And as Kamen Rider Kuuga makes its way to fans, Shout Factory wastes no time in announcing a Sentai series close to Tyler's heart.

Rangercast Episode 4: Power Morphicon 202207 Sep 202200:57:21

Guest host Mike Manos (Rangerboard's Renegade Pancake) joins Tyler and Lamar to talk about the news out of Power Morphicon, including more digesting of the Cosmic Fury revelations, a new addition to Super7's Ultimates line and a new Kamen Rider toy shown off at the con. Meanwhile, showrunner Simon Bennett calls out impatient fans pirating international airings before the last arc of Dino Fury hits stateside.

We then reflect on the good, bad and ugly of the convention as a whole before turning to Mike, a former Rangercast co-host who staffed this year's PMC (but doesn't speak for the con!), about his time in the fandom and the creation of Truncated Power Rangers.

Rangercast Episode 3: Emergency Pod -- Power Rangers Cosmic Fury29 Aug 202200:18:07

Hasbro stole Power Morphicon's (Dino) thunder! In a tweet posted (accidentally??) 12 hours before the Dino Fury panel at Power Morphicon, we learned that the next season's title would indeed be Cosmic Fury and that, in a move not seen since the MMPR days, the whole cast would be coming back for a third season. But aside from the returning cast and crew, we learned little else in one of the strangest cast reveals ever done at a PMC.

Please excuse the sound quality. Tyler did not pack his microphone and literally recorded his end of the show using his AirPods on the floor of PMC.

Rangercast Episode 2: The Past, Present and Future of Power Rangers Comics23 Aug 202200:53:23

Tyler, Tori and Lamar break down the past two weeks in Power Rangers news. Power Week and Power Morphicon lie ahead. A long-lost Sailor Moon project fans have taken to calling "Saban Moon" has finally been recovered. Kamen Rider comics and manga are on their way.

Editor's note: News of Hasbro potentially shopping Entertainment One, which produces Power Rangers, broke after this recording, as did Monday's teaser for the backstretch of Dino Fury. We will talk about both news items next time.

It's Hasbro-ver: Hasbro Licenses Power Rangers Toy Rights To Playmates30 Apr 202400:52:45

Hasbro, ostensibly a toy company, has licensed global Power Rangers toy rights to Playmates, with CEO Chris Cocks telling investors the brand just wasn't profitable enough to keep making in-house. Austin St. John's Ill-Advised Clothing Line13 Mar 202400:32:59

Austin St. John is back in the headlines and again it's for all the wrong reasons. In a February podcast interview with Jim Cummings, he said he planned a clothing line featuring quotes from leaders both famous and infamous, saying the German mustache guy "was a demon on steroids but he had some pretty good one-liners." This week, Power Rangers fans took notice of the comments and the former Red Ranger has faced backlash from nearly all corners. Tyler and Mike Manos offer their takes on what he said, and how fans and fan events should respond.
