In this episode of Ramayan – The Eternal Journey, Vishvamitra begins a new ancient account—the story of King Sagara of Ayodhya.

Although powerful and righteous, Sagara has no children. Together with his queens Keshini and Sumati, he performs austerities, and the sage Bhrigu grants him an extraordinary boon: one queen will bear a son who continues the royal line, while the other will become the mother of sixty thousand sons.

In time, Keshini gives birth to Asamanja, while Sumati becomes the mother of Sagara’s vast line of sons. But Asamanja’s cruel conduct leads Sagara to banish him from the city. His son Anshuman, however, grows into a respected and courageous prince.

Later, Sagara begins a great sacrifice. When the sacrificial horse is stolen by Indra, Sagara sends his sixty thousand sons to search for it.

Their search becomes destructive. Unable to find the horse, they begin digging through the earth, causing devastation among the beings below. Eventually they reach the northeastern region, where they discover the horse near the great sage Kapila.

Convinced that Kapila is responsible for the theft, Sagara’s sons rush toward him in anger. Kapila responds with a powerful utterance, and all sixty thousand princes are reduced to ashes.

When they fail to return, Sagara sends his grandson Anshuman to discover what happened. Anshuman reaches the place where the princes were destroyed, finds the sacrificial horse, and meets Garuda.

Garuda reveals the key to their liberation: ordinary water will not be enough. Only the sacred waters of Ganga can purify the ashes of Sagara’s sons and allow them to attain heaven.

Anshuman returns with the horse, and Sagara successfully completes his sacrifice. But one great problem remains unresolved—how can Ganga be brought to earth?

Sagara spends the rest of his long reign without finding the answer. The responsibility will now pass to the generations that follow.

In the next episode, the story continues with Anshuman, Dilipa and Bhagiratha, as the effort to bring Ganga to earth moves closer to fulfillment.

In this episode of Ramayan – The Eternal Journey, Rama, Lakshmana and Vishvamitra continue their journey toward Mithila.

After spending the night on the bank of the Shona, they rise at dawn and resume their travels. By midday, the travelers reach the sacred Ganga, also known as Jahnavi. Fascinated by the great river, Rama asks Vishvamitra to tell him how the Ganga came to flow through three different realms. 

Vishvamitra begins with the story of Himavan, lord of the mountains, and his daughters Ganga and Uma. From there, the narrative unfolds into the divine history of Ganga—her heavenly course, her connection with the gods, and the events surrounding Uma and Lord Shiva. 

The story then moves toward the gods’ search for a powerful commander. Through a remarkable sequence involving Agni and Ganga, a divine child is born—known as Kumara, Kartikeya and Skanda.

Raised in extraordinary circumstances and possessing immense divine power, Kumara is ultimately consecrated as the commander of the celestial forces. 

Vishvamitra completes his account by telling Rama that he has now related the fuller story of Ganga and the birth of Kumara. 

But the story of the Ganga is far from complete.

In the next episode, Vishvamitra begins another ancient account—the story of King Sagara, which will eventually lead toward one of the most famous chapters in the sacred river’s journey.

In this episode of Ramayan – The Eternal Journey, the mission at Siddhashrama is complete, and a new journey begins.

At dawn, the sages announce that King Janaka is performing a great yajna in Mithila. They also tell Rama about an extraordinary bow kept there—one that he will soon have the opportunity to see. Vishvamitra then leads Rama, Lakshmana and the assembled sages northward from Siddhashrama toward Mithila. 

As evening approaches, the travelers halt on the bank of the Shona River. There, Rama asks Vishvamitra about the prosperous land before them, opening the door to a remarkable account of the region and Vishvamitra’s own lineage. 

Vishvamitra tells Rama about Kusha and his descendants, including King Kushanabha and his one hundred daughters. When Vayu approaches the princesses with a proposal, they respectfully refuse to act without their father’s consent. Angered by their answer, Vayu deforms them—but the daughters return to their father without abandoning their restraint or dignity. 

Kushanabha praises their forbearance. In time, they are married to Brahmadatta, and during the marriage rite their affliction is removed and their natural form is restored. 

The story then becomes deeply personal.

Vishvamitra explains the birth of Gadhi, identifies Gadhi as his own father, and reveals that he himself belongs to the lineage of Kusha as Kaushika. He also speaks about his elder sister Satyavati, who became associated with the sacred river Kaushiki, and explains his own connection to that holy region. 

By the time Vishvamitra completes his account, half the night has passed. Under a sky filled with stars and moonlight, Rama and Lakshmana finally rest on the bank of the Shona. 

The next morning, their journey will continue—and soon they will reach the sacred Ganga.

In this episode of Ramayan – The Eternal Journey, Rama, Lakshmana and the great sage Vishvamitra arrive at Siddhashrama, the sacred hermitage connected with Lord Vishnu’s incarnation as Vamana. Vishvamitra tells Rama the ancient story of King Bali, Vamana’s three steps, and the divine history of this extraordinary place. 

But Siddhashrama is under threat.

Vishvamitra begins his sacred sacrifice, and Rama and Lakshmana take responsibility for protecting it. For six days and nights, the two princes remain vigilant, armed and sleepless, waiting for the rakshasas who have repeatedly disrupted the rite. 

On the sixth day, the attack finally comes.

Maricha and Subahu, accompanied by other rakshasas, descend upon the sacrifice and unleash streams of blood in an attempt to destroy it. Rama immediately responds with the celestial weapons entrusted to him by Vishvamitra. 

Using the Manava Astra, Rama strikes Maricha and hurls him one hundred yojanas away into the sea—defeated, but still alive. He then uses the Agneya Astra against Subahu, killing him, before destroying the remaining attackers with the Vayavya Astra. 

With the danger removed, Vishvamitra’s sacrifice is successfully completed.

Pleased with Rama, Vishvamitra declares that his purpose has been fulfilled and that Rama has carried out his teacher’s command. Through Rama’s protection, Siddhashrama has truly become accomplished.

The battle is over—but Rama’s journey is only beginning.

In this episode of Ramayan – The Eternal Journey, the morning after the defeat of Tataka brings a remarkable new chapter in Rama’s journey.

Deeply pleased with Rama’s courage and discipline, the great sage Vishvamitra decides to entrust him with an extraordinary collection of divine astras — celestial weapons of immense power.

One by one, Vishvamitra reveals sacred weapons associated with the forces of the gods, including powerful chakras, the Vajra, Brahmastra, Narayanastra, Agneyastra, Vayavyastra and many others.

These are not ordinary weapons. Each carries a distinct divine power and can be invoked only through knowledge, discipline and proper understanding.

Rama receives them with humility and asks an important question: how can these weapons be withdrawn or neutralized after they have been invoked?

Vishvamitra is pleased by Rama’s wisdom. He then teaches him the corresponding samhara — the knowledge required to restrain and withdraw the astras.

The divine powers appear before Rama in embodied form, acknowledge him as their master and declare themselves ready to serve whenever called.

Rama accepts them into his awareness and instructs them to remain available when needed.

With this extraordinary transmission complete, Rama is no longer simply a young prince traveling with a sage. He now carries knowledge of some of the most powerful celestial weapons described in the Ramayan.

In the next episode, Rama, Lakshmana and Vishvamitra continue their journey toward the sacred region connected with Siddhashrama.

In this episode of Ramayan – The Eternal Journey, Rama and Lakshmana continue their journey with the great sage Vishvamitra.

At dawn, Vishvamitra awakens Rama for the sacred morning duties. After completing their prayers and rituals, the three continue onward and reach the holy confluence of the Sarayu and the divine Tripathaga. Along the way, Vishvamitra explains the ancient stories connected with the sacred hermitage, the rivers, and the lands through which they travel.

Soon, the peaceful journey changes. Rama sees a dark and terrifying forest filled with wild animals, harsh cries, and an atmosphere of danger. Vishvamitra reveals that this region was once prosperous, but it was devastated by the powerful yakshi Tataka.

He tells Rama the story of Tataka—her extraordinary strength, her family, the curse that transformed her, and the destruction she brought upon the land.

Vishvamitra then gives Rama a direct command: Tataka must be stopped.

Rama initially hesitates at the idea of killing a woman, but Vishvamitra explains the duty of a prince and the responsibility to protect the innocent and uphold dharma.

Rama accepts the command.

With the sharp sound of his bowstring, he draws Tataka out of the forest. She charges toward him in fury, and Rama finally strikes her with an arrow, bringing her reign of terror to an end.

The gods praise Rama for what he has done, and Vishvamitra, deeply pleased, blesses him with affection. As evening falls, they remain in the forest for the night, preparing to continue their journey the next morning.

In the next episode, Vishvamitra will begin revealing extraordinary divine weapons to Rama.

In this episode of Ramayan – The Eternal Journey, the great sage Vishvamitra arrives in Ayodhya and asks King Dasharatha for something the king never expected—to send Rama with him.

Vishvamitra explains that the rakshasas Maricha and Subahu repeatedly disrupt his sacred rite. Bound by the discipline of his vow, the sage cannot simply curse them. He asks Dasharatha to entrust Rama to him for ten nights, promising that the young prince will be protected and will gain lasting glory.

Dasharatha is shaken by the request. Rama is still young, and the king cannot bear the thought of separation. He offers his army—and even himself—in Rama’s place. When Vishvamitra reveals the connection to Ravana, Dasharatha’s fear grows even stronger.

But when Dasharatha appears ready to withdraw the promise he had given, Vishvamitra’s anger shakes the earth.

At that critical moment, Vasishtha intervenes. He reminds Dasharatha of his duty, the importance of keeping his word, and the extraordinary spiritual and divine-weapons knowledge possessed by Vishvamitra.

Accepting Vasishtha’s counsel, Dasharatha finally entrusts Rama to the sage. Lakshmana accompanies his brother, and the three leave Ayodhya together.

After traveling to the southern bank of the Sarayu River, Vishvamitra gives Rama the sacred disciplines Bala and Atibala—knowledge said to protect him from fatigue, hunger, thirst, and danger while strengthening his extraordinary abilities.

Their first day away from Ayodhya ends quietly as Vishvamitra, Rama, and Lakshmana spend the night beside the Sarayu.

In the next episode, Rama and Lakshmana continue their journey with Vishvamitra and enter a fearsome forest where Rama will face Tataka.

In this episode of Ramayan – The Eternal Journey, the story moves from King Dasharatha’s son-producing sacrifice into one of the most important turning points of the Ramayan.

As Rishyashringa performs the sacred rite, the gods gather and appeal to Brahma about Ravana’s growing power. Brahma reveals the weakness within Ravana’s boon: in his arrogance, Ravana had not sought protection from human beings.

At that moment, Vishnu is asked to take birth in the house of King Dasharatha and become fourfold through his three queens.

Meanwhile, from the sacrificial fire appears a radiant divine being carrying a golden vessel filled with sacred payasa. Dasharatha distributes it among Kausalya, Sumitra, and Kaikeyi according to the prescribed order.

At the same time, powerful vanara allies begin to arise for the future mission that awaits Vishnu.

The episode then moves to the long-awaited births of the four princes:

Rama — son of Kausalya
Bharata — son of Kaikeyi
Lakshmana and Shatrughna — sons of Sumitra

Their naming ceremonies follow, and the early bonds between the brothers begin to emerge—especially the extraordinary closeness between Rama and Lakshmana, and between Bharata and Shatrughna.

As the princes grow in knowledge, virtue, courage, and wisdom, King Dasharatha begins thinking about their future.

In the next episode, the sage Vishvamitra arrives in Ayodhya and asks Dasharatha to entrust Rama to him for a dangerous mission.

As spring arrives, preparations begin on an immense scale. Priests, craftsmen, attendants, visiting kings, and guests from many regions gather as Ayodhya prepares for the royal yajna. The released horse returns after completing its journey, and the Ashvamedha proceeds according to the prescribed Vedic rites.

The episode presents the sacrifice in a respectful, listener-friendly way, focusing on its preparation, discipline, hospitality, completion, and significance rather than graphic ritual details.

After the yajna is successfully completed and the priests receive their dakshina, Dasharatha once again turns to Rishyashringa with the wish that has guided him throughout this journey—the continuation of his lineage.

Rishyashringa gives the king a final assurance:

“O King, you will have four sons who will carry your lineage forward.”

The next stage of the story will begin with the son-producing sacrifice and the divine events that follow.

In this episode of Ramayan – The Eternal Journey, King Dasharatha faces a deeply personal and royal concern: he has no son to continue the Ikshvaku lineage. As he considers performing the Ashvamedha, Sumantra recalls an ancient account connected with Rishyashringa, the forest-dwelling son of Vibhandaka. 

The story takes us to Anga, where a severe drought leads King Lomapada to seek Rishyashringa’s presence. His arrival is followed by rain, and he is later joined in marriage with Shanta. 

Sumantra’s remembered account eventually becomes action. With Vasishtha’s approval, Dasharatha travels to Anga, meets Rishyashringa, and respectfully brings Rishyashringa and Shanta to Ayodhya. The city welcomes them with honor, accompanied by the sound of conches and drums. 

Rishyashringa is now in Ayodhya, and the stage is set for the great royal sacrifice that will begin in the next chapter of Dasharatha’s journey.
