In this episode the team explore the second of the four essential beer ingredients: malt.
Alison chats to our resident chef Christian Gott about the flavours of malt. Clare visits Crisp Maltings and with Dr Dave Griggs, follows the malting process. Simon gets the low down on all things malt beer and running with writer Mark Dredge. Alison visits Five Points Brewery and sees how malt is used during mashing in with Max Descloux the Head Brewer. She also sees Harvey’s historical set up with Miles Jenner, their Head Brewer.

The popular CAMRA podcast Pubs. Pints. People. is shining a light on diversity and inclusion in the beer world in its latest episode, ‘Beer is for everyone', hosted by the South Devon branch.

Celebratory Brews

In this episode, Clare Philips, Simon Webster and David King and joined by Fergus Fitzgerald, head brewer at Adnams and creator of the ‘Thank Brew’ pale ale that is being brewed and sold by brewers and publicans to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee. Ahead of the Glasgow Real Ale Festival on 16-18 June, they sit down with Walter Ross to learn a bit about the role of a festival steward, a real unsung hero of the festival, being the first port of call for visitors, keeping everyone safe, and doing whatever is needed to keep the show on the road.
Alison Taffs sits down with Adam Green from Old Street Brewery and Oliver Meckler from Symbiose in the Netherlands, to talk about their big celebratory brews, from bourbon-barrelled stouts to champagne-styled beers brewed with grapes.

Ale & Steam

In this episode, Clare Philips and Paul Grant and joined by Simon Webster to learn all about "Ale & Steam", the relationship between railways and beer. They sit down with beer writer Des De Moor to learn about the railway arches of London, and hear from two railway-themed festivals - the Ale & Steam beer festival taking place on two station platforms from 27-29 May in the North Cotswolds and the Chappell Beer Festival which is run at the East Anglian Railway Museum and will next take place in September.
The team also raise a glass to mild month, hearing from Simon Theakston about Theakston's new dark mild, as well as cider month, sampling Temperance St Cider, courtesy of Cat in the Glass in Manchester.
