Psalm 4517 Nov 202500:09:49

Psalm 45 paints a beautiful picture of a kingly marriage. Some have speculated that this poem or song was written for Solomon's wedding or a later king, but the identity remains unknown. As we read it today, in 2025, more than two thousand years later, we read it in light of the New Testament.

Listen to how it can comfort our hearts tonight.

Psalm 3508 Sep 202500:11:15

Psalm 35 is an imprecatory psalm. David writes in a such way that might seem too harsh for us today. But David is simply calling to God to punish the wicked. How does this help us when we face our own injustice?

Psalm 3325 Aug 202500:13:26

How do we read a psalm like Psalm 33 when we feel the sadness linger? These psalms are not the ones we tend to go to when we are struggling. I'll admit, while writing this episode I'm feeling a lot of sadness under the surface right now.

Psalm 3111 Aug 202500:12:49

Depression and anxiety use absolutes like "always, never…" What we love about the psalms is that there are particular chapters that can speak to us during these times in a profound way. We do not need a platitude of "Things will be better in the morning…."

We need a voice to say, "Yes, it is hard, but we are not alone, forgotten, or unloved. This is what Psalm 31 is for us. Listen as Sarah shares about how this is our comfort at night.

Psalm 2928 Jul 202500:12:18

Psalm 29 reminds us that the universe is big and creation is complex. But God is bigger and wiser than we could ever imagine. In Psalm 29 we see that the image of God is one of both strength and presence. God is in the BIG things and God is in the SMALL things. He is over many waters but he is also with the deer when she gives birth. What an amazingly powerful and person God we see here.

Psalm 4304 Nov 202500:09:30

We all carry heavy things, but most of the time those things are invisible to everyone else.

Each week I'm reminded of how hard life can be. Everyone listening right now is carrying something heavy in their hearts. Everyone you pass on the street, sit next to in church, and even those we see on the televisions are all carrying a heavy weight of some sort.

Psalm 2316 Jun 202500:14:52

Maybe you memorized this psalm as a child, or as an adult. Psalm 23 is probably one of the most recognized psalms, if not one of the recognized passages in the entire Bible.  It is often said at funerals, and rightly so. It is spoken in times of deep pain and deep grief, which is also very appropriate. What can we gleam from this familiar psalm?

In this episdoe David assures himself of what he knows to be true, that God is true to his word. Look at how he describes God's words - pure and refined. This is in stark contrast to the words David was just lamenting. God's words of defence and safety are so meaningful to David because he knows they can be trusted. He knows God will keep them. He knows where his safety is found.

Introduction to Psalms to Help You Sleep01 Jan 202500:16:57

Welcome to the Psalms to Help You Sleep podcast with Sarah Frazer and Jennifer Holmes. If you struggle to fall asleep at night or go through your day fighting anxiety and depression pull up a chair. Psalms is a book that gives us permission to feel but also to hear.

Today's episode is a special one! In this episode Sarah and Jen share why they wanted to create this resource for you as well as the reason why they chose the Book of Psalms.

One of the goals for this podcast is that it is a resource for you when you need it. They hope you will listen to every episode after it airs, but also, they understand that our mental health ebbs and flows. You might go a few weeks and sleep really well. Or it might be that a certain time of year is really bad and you need a little help. No matter how often you listen, they encourage you to listen again, not to their voices, but the Voice of God in the Book of Psalms.

Another goal for this podcast is that you will use it as a way to get into God's Word daily. Both Sarah and Jen are super passionate about Bible study and Bible reading as a daily practice. This podcast can help you when reading your Bible is hard.

Take this podcast and listen to it as a way to stay close to God's Word.

Psalm 3906 Oct 202500:11:58

Night after night the darkness would creep inside my heart and I would lie awake crying - for no reason. I begged God for relief or even to give me a reason. Nothing changed and so I stopped praying for a time.

Like the author of Psalm 39, I thought maybe if I just stay silent things would be fine. I never ever talked about my depression with friends or family (other than my husband). I thought if I just didn't think about it or mention it, it wouldn't be real.

But anxiety and depression can't be ignored. You can't push the feelings down forever. Eventually I began to pray again about my depression. Listen to this week's episode to discover how a view of eternity actually helps give us hope at night.
