A new edition of our slice of prog music happenings for September 2025. We start with the sad news of the passing of founding member Rick Davies, who wrote some of the band’s famous songs. We discuss new and upcoming releases, including a couple of 50th anniversary reissues: Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here and the Grateful Dead’s Blues for Allah. There’s also a new release from the modern krautrock vanguards out of Oregon, Motrik (Earth). And we take a look at Jay’s Marillion one-day super sale haul.

We’re back with the second part of our take on the music of Jon Anderson and Vangelis (Evangelos Odysseas Papathanassiou) — from Private Collection to Page of Life and beyond.

While their songs were each a short story sharing a page of life, some of Jon’s lyrics were better left in his private collection. But that never seemed to bother these two friends of Mr. Cairo. Let us go out of the mist into tropical splendor!

In this episode, we review the music of Jon Anderson and Vangelis (Evangelos Odysseas Papathanassiou) from the start of their partnership through the release of Friends Of Mr. Cairo. While their songs were each a short story sharing a page of life, some of Jon’s lyrics were perhaps better left in his private collection. Here’s the second part of our trip through the Led Zeppelin discography, highlighting some of the band’s more prog moments over the years. We cover the studio albums from Physical Graffiti through Coda, the posthumous vault release.

Led Zeppelin had many progressive moments across their albums, and not just because of the occasional Mellotron! In this episode, we revisit the band’s early days and their first five albums, through House of the Holy. We’ll cover the rest of their albums in the next episode.

We take a look at some new and upcoming releases and reissue in the progressive rock world. Along the way, we also talk about some 80s music and prog double albums. And it wouldn’t be an episode without mentioning Yes.

Tim Taddei is back from progging on the high seas with Cruise to the Edge and joins us for a recap of days 1 and 2. Tim regales us with tales of the concerts, the cruise experience, and even a topographic ocean or two. Bands include IQ, Riverside, Pure Reason Revolution, Karmikanic, Thank You Scientist, plus the Fripp and Singleton talk.

Percussionist Jamie Muir passed away in February 2025. He brought a deeper sense of improvisation and the avant-garde to the Larks’ Tongues in Aspic era of King Crimson. Even though he was a member for a relativity short period of time, his contributions reverberated through every subsequent iteration of the band. Robert Fripp and Bill Bruford have both recognized the impact he had on their playing. And if that wasn’t enough, Muir recommended the initial inspiration for Yes’ Tales From Topographic Oceans. RIP Jamie.
