You instantly feel frustrated. Or defeated. Or sad.
You make it mean you did something wrong, or it should've worked, and it didn't and that's a bad thing…

This is a totally normal and default reaction for lots of farmers.

But it's super problematic.

Because when you try to sell, and you sell nothing, the way the brain works is then you're stuck taking all sorts of un-useful actions.

You end up signing up for more work! Maybe you add a sales outlet like another farmers market or drop location or different packaging. Or you offer a discount.

The bottom line, if you don't fix your default response to sales fails, you'll do yourself and your farm in.
Eventually, you won't make enough money for the work to be worth it.

It stops up many a farmer!

Usually, they fall into one of two camps:

Either they think they don't need a brand, and they ignore it.

Or if they do, they think branding consists of a logo, website, tagline, mission statement – or maybe all your followers on social media.

I'm as guilty as any farmer in these two categories - I fell into the first one years ago, thinking my three cow dairy was too small to need a brand.

But I'm here to tell you, you DO need a brand -- and a professionally designed logo, website, or mission statement is NOT branding!

Those things are only one piece of the pie, and given the enormous start-up costs of a farm, they are usually best to come after you've established your brand.

I could go on and on with the success they're creating because they're learning through coaching to become the CEO of their farms.

No, you can totally learn to NOT beat yourself up.

Farming is a beast, you've heard me say.
And you absolutely must learn the skills to tame that beast if you want to be farming long-term (and if you want to be happily married long-term!)

Many farmers feel like their prices are already higher than the grocery store, or the highest in the area, so they think they can't possibly raise them any higher.
But they're still not making a sustainable profit.
