Dexter Fletcher announced that he could be director in 2019 but after success of The Invisible Man (2020), McKay had a negotiation to join as a director in the Ridley's script and Kirkman's original pitch. Many cast joined in August 2021 to January 2022 and filming began in February 2022 and wrapped on August 2022 with the $65 million on budget after taxing the filming. Renfield had its world premiere at the Overlook Film Festival on March 30, 2023 and was released in the United States on April 14, 2023 by Universal Pictures. The film received mixed reviews from critics.
