Why is Adam Pliska Giving Away $5,000,000 at WPT World Championship?27 Sep 202400:43:03

In the 858th episode of the PokerNews Podcast, sponsored by WPT Global, Chad Holloway and Mike Holtz are joined by World Poker Tour (WPT) President Adam Pliska at Level 9 Studio in Las Vegas to talk about the WPT World Championship, which isn't featuring a guarantee this year but instead is offering players the opportunity at a $5,000,000 Freeroll, the largest freeroll in poker history! Pliska shares how players can enter for a chance at one of 2,000 seats, plus elaborates on whether or not we might see another WPT Voyage.

Speaking of the WPT, they just wrapped up a stop in Australia that poker pro James Obst won, and you can't talk about the "Land Down Under" without mentioning the WPT's Lynn Gilmartin. Plus, hear about highlights from the WPT Foundation Russell Westbrook's 4th Annual Poker Night, remember Mike Sexton on what would have been his 77th birthday, and a preview of upcoming WPT stops (Chad will be at the Playground Poker Club in Montreal at the end of October).

Mike and Chad then recap Jim Collopy capturing the Poker Masters Purple Jacket, Ben Tollerene claiming the final title of that series, and offer a look at some recent NAPT Gold Pass winners. Speaking of Gold Passes, learn how you can win one via either the PokerNews Podcast & Life Outside Poker Podcast giveaway, PokerGO drawing a random annual subscriber, or the Path to the NAPT for online players.

Finally, Chad and Mike, a two-time online player of the year, talk about the bombshell article on Bloomberg exposing a Russian poker bot farm and the ramifications it could have on the industry. Learn about those stories and more in the latest episode of the PokerNews Podcast.

WSOP Main Even Final Table Preview; Antonius in Hall of Fame; Foxen Falls Short16 Jul 202401:11:50

In the 847th episode of the PokerNews Podcast, Chad Holloway, Mike Holtz, and Connor Richards come to you from Level 9 Studio to preview the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event final table. Who is at the final table of nine? How did they get there? And who do they think will win? Find out here.

Plus, hear how Kristen Foxen fell just short of becoming only the second woman in WSOP history to make the Main Event final table, including her much-discussed final hand. Speaking of big hands, Adrian Mateos suffered back-to-back big hands before bowing out on Day 5. Sometimes poker can be cruel, and his fate is evidence of that.

On a positive note, Patrik Antonius became the 2024 inductee into the Poker Hall of Fame. The online and cash game legend became just the fifth European to be inducted, and he was on-site at the WSOP to accept the honor. See pictures and a video of the Finnish pro accepting his Poker Hall of Fame trophy.

Finally, hear about recent WSOP gold bracelet winners including Jared Bleznick, Gary Bolden, Joseph Sanders, and Calvin Anderson; Jeremy Ausmus tying Phil Hellmuth's WSOP final table record; and other winners from Venetian and Wynn. POY Controversy? Scott Seiver Wins 3rd WSOP Bracelet of Summer & Joey Ingram is a Wizard02 Jul 202401:00:17

In the 843rd episode of the PokerNews Podcast, Chad Holloway and Kyna England are joined at Level 9 Studio by Joey Ingram, who served as special co-host to talk about the latest happenings at the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) as well as his new partnership with GTO Wizard.

The biggest story is that of Scott Seiver, who captured his third bracelet of the summer and became just the seventh player in history to win three bracelets in the same year. Could he make history by becoming the only player to win four? He has two more weeks to do it.

Despite winning three bracelets, you might be surprised to learn that Seiver is far from a lock to win the 2024 WSOP Player of the Year; in fact, Jeremy Ausmus, who hasn't won a bracelet this summer, isn't too far behind in points thanks to a bevy of final table appearances. Would a non-bracelet winner winning POY over a three-time winner cause a controversy? The crew discusses that very possibility.

Chad then shares pictures and videos from the exclusive Global Poker party that took place at PokerGO Studio on Sunday night, while Ingram opens up about all things GTO Wizard. As usual, you'll also get your dose of other WSOP bracelet winners and a $25K Fantasy update. Oh, and did we mention talk about Daniel Negreanu, Nick Schulman, and Phil Ivey? Because that's all in there too.

15-Way Chop at Wynn, Lady Kicked Out of WSOP & Hellmuth Wedding Bells21 Jun 202400:48:01

In the 839th episode of the PokerNews Podcast, host Chad Holloway is joined by Kyle Anderson and Connor Richards at Level 9 in Las Vegas and talk about the latest from the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) and about town, including the much-talked-about 15-way chop in the Wynn Summer Classic Ladies Event

Speaking of bracelet runs, the son of 2005 WSOP Main Event Joe Hachem nearly followed in his father's footsteps by capturing WSOP gold. Finally, Chad wrote a poker history piece involving David Sklansky, who is looking to sell a pair of rare 1982 WSOP gold watches and a look ahead to next week's $600 PokerNews Deepstacks Championship bracelet event.

The crew also looks at some big hands -- including a wild bluff by "Texas Mike" Moncek and Doug Polk losing trips over trips -- from the Hustler Casino Live (HCL) $1,000,000 Cash Game, recap Josh Reichard's big win in the World Poker Tour (WPT) Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown, and results from Daniel Negreanu's $25,000 Fantasy Draft.

As for the 2024 WSOP, it kicked off with Event #1: $5,000 Champions Reunion in which 22 former Main Event champs competed including "Action" Dan Harrington, who hadn't cashed a WSOP event in a decade. Surprisingly, he didn't even know about the tournament and only learned of it when he was in Las Vegas for another reason. Find out that story and some of the other former champs who competed in the first event of the summer!

Finally, Robin Poker tours this year's new PokerNews Daily DeepStacks tournament area.

A new PokerNews Podcast will drop twice a week during the 2024 WSOP every Tuesday and Friday at 8a PT / 11a ET / 4p UK time. Make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel so you do not miss an episode!

Doug Polk Denied in Texas; Ethan "Rampage" Yau Exits $1,000,000 Cash Game10 May 202400:56:27

In the 829th episode of the PokerNews Podcast, which is sponsored by PokerStars, Chad Holloway, Mike Holtz, and Kyna England are back at Level 9 Studio in Las Vegas to talk about Doug Polk being denied a new poker room in Texas. Check out some highlights and clips from a city council meeting in which Polk went to the podium to plead his case. While some respected what he had to say, some poker players like Chris "Big Huni" Hunichen and Matt Waxman were critical of his motives.

Speaking of Polk, he indicated he might be available to participate in Hustler Casino Live's (HCL) $1,000,000 Cash Game at the end of the month after Ethan "Rampage" Yau dropped out. The latter, who has been on a downswing and recently admitted to shedding tears over a $550K loss, caught some flack for pulling out after asking fans to buy pieces and was the subject of a negative video released by Alex Duvall. Find out what the crew thinks about Rampage's current predicament, including a World Series of Poker (WSOP) challenge issued by Holtz.

Also, learn about Sofie Dossi contorting herself at the Celebrity Poker Tour Invitational III, which was won by Katie Thurston for $20,000, as well as hearing from PokerNews Ambassadors Keith Becker (Pennsylvania) and Kyle Anderson (Ontario). Nik Airball 20-Minute Tank, Pet Peeves & Corey Eyring's Quest for $1,000,00022 Mar 202400:54:10

In the 822nd episode of the PokerNews Podcast, Chad Holloway, Mike Holtz & Kyna England come to you from Level 9 Studios in Las Vegas to discuss the latest poker news, stories, and gossip.

That includes Nik Airball's 20-minute tank in a big hand on The Lodge Poker Live Stream, which prompted Doug Polk to take action. That led into a discussion on pet peeves at the table, and in Mike's case, the pet part is quite literal.

The crew also plays the first edition of PokerNews Plinko, discusses Chad's poker thrift store "Tweet of the Week," and talks about the current state of poker given Bitcoin is at an all-time high.

From there, they dive into the wild journey of poker vlogger Corey Eyring, who is risking his entire net worth in an attempt to win $500,000 by the end of the year. Whatever amount he ends up with, the plan is to place it all on a single roulette bet of either red or black. Chad chatted with Eyring about his crazy quest and highlights various clips throughout the episode.

Finally, the crew once again touches on Kevin Martin's 24/7 stream while attempting to win $5,000 playing online, which came to an unceremonius end.

In the 853rd episode of the PokerNews Podcast, which is sponsored by PokerStars, Chad Holloway, Kyna England and Mike Holtz are back at Level 9 Studio in Las Vegas to talk about the term "fish" in poker. It's a debate set off by veteran poker media member Tiffany Michelle, who used the term while vlogging at the Arizona State Poker Championship and caused quite the kerfuffle in the poker community. They then break down a wild pot-limit Omaha hand that was about to award a $118K Bad Beat Jackpot but was invalidated due to an unbelievable river card, highlight wins by Kathy Liebert and Lisa Fleishman, and take a look at the 2024 NAPT schedule (Nov. 1-10) which included the Mixed Game Festival IX taking place at Resorts World, which has found itself in a bit of hot water with gaming authorities.

Finally, the crew remember a trio of poker players who recently passed away in Matt Snook, Dan Sewnig, and Alexander Hill.

They also debate the pros and (many) cons of both Martin Kabrhel and Will Kassouf with Jamie Gold, the O.G. of speech play, offering his thoughts on the most dynamic duo from the 2025 WSOP. It's a take you might not expect.

Finally, see an interview with Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi, the winner of the 2025 WSOP Main Event and most recent inductee into the Poker Hall of Fame.

WSOP’s Controversial Chip Dumping Decision; Shiina Okamoto Makes Poker History03 Jul 202500:54:49

In the 904th episode of the PokerNews Podcast, Chad Holloway, Kyna England, and Mike Holtz are joined by Grosvenor Poker Pro Jamie Nixon at Level 9 Studio in Las Vegas to talk about the latest from the 2025 World Series of Poker (WSOP). That includes the WSOP's controversial decision regarding the alleged Millionaire Maker chip dumping between Jesse Yaginuma and James Carroll, which may or may not include lifetime bans. It's a lively debate that examines the situation from multiple angles, including the likely involvement of the Nevada Gaming Commission.

They then take a look at a controversial hand posted by Lexy Gavin-Mather where a dealer error that may have brought a much-needed seven out of the muck had the poker world talking. From there, the trio highlight the historic win by Shiina Okamoto, who successfully defended her Ladies Event title after finishing runner-up three years ago. She also had to put up with Phil Hellmuth Jr., for better or worse, as the crew debated. That wasn't the only historic win, as Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi won the prestigious $50,000 Poker Players Championship for an unbelievable fourth time. Toss in the first gold bracelet won by Darren Elias, and there were some big winners to be celebrated.

Jamie Nixon then talks about Grosvenor Poker and the upcoming Goliath in Coventry, how his buddy is running a daily bracket of funny poker names, and then Chad explains why there's a giant cutout of Espen Jorstad's head on the set (Hint: it came from the recent GTOWizard party).
