This week's Ace in the Hole is Todd McGowan, a film scholar, philosopher, and Professor of English at the University of Vermont, where he teaches film and cultural theory. He works on Hegel, psychoanalysis, and existentialism, and the intersection of these lines of thought with the cinema. He is one of the originators of the LACK Conference, attended by a number of our past guests, and with Ryan Engley he co-hosts the WHY THEORY podcast. Michael has exhibited and screened his work internationally at museums and galleries, most recently in Oaxaca, Mexico, and Montreal, Quebec. He holds an MFA from the former Mills College and is an adjunct professor at the UNC-Chapel Hill Department of Art and Art History, where he teaches experimental video in the studio arts.
