mercredi 4 septembre 2024Durée 11:25

Join us in this month’s 12-Minute Model Sphere as we gear up for the Military Modelers Club of Louisville Invitational in Louisville, Kentucky, happening on September 28th. We'll discuss the fantastic venue at Paroquet Springs Conference Center and the myriad attractions nearby, making it a perfect outing for the whole family. Reminisce with us about past shows and the good times shared, and learn why this location holds a special place in our hearts.

We also have fresh and exciting content lined up from Plastic Model Mojo! Starting with episode 123, now rebranded as "Shop Talk with Mike and Kentucky Dave," we promise engaging and relatable conversations on various topics. Episode 124 will feature the ever-popular "Wheel of Accidental Wisdom" segment, and we hope to have Chris Wallace from Model Airplane Maker join us for some insightful discussions. We're still taking your topic suggestions, so don't hesitate to send them our way. Tune in for all this and more in our September episodes.

Scratch Building in 1/144th Scale w/ William Adair: Episode 122

Épisode 122

lundi 26 août 2024Durée 02:08:12

How do you keep your modeling spirit high amidst life's interruptions? Join us as we savor the cooler weather and the extra modeling time it brings in this episode of Plastic Model Mojo. Mike and Dave share how our collective hobby enthusiasm is soaring, and we discuss the remarkable benefits of making progress with small, regular steps rather than waiting for those elusive large blocks of time. We share personal anecdotes and practical advice on maintaining our hobby, even when life throws us curveballs. Plus, we express our heartfelt gratitude for the thoughtful gifts from our listeners, including some excellent Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey and Crop Circle Wheat beer from the Great Dane microbrewery.

Our episode brims with exciting updates from the international modeling community. Learn about a first time guest from the UK to the 2025 United States National Convention in Hampton, Virginia, and the resurgence of a Gundam build group in Middle Tennessee. We highlight impressive book finds on Japanese aircraft and submarines, and share upcoming events like the West Midlands Police Scale Model Club's speed-build of a 24th scale Airfix Spitfire at Duxford. Listener queries about surprising discoveries in the hobby spark discussions on innovative tools and historical findings in military modeling, showcasing the ever-evolving nature of our beloved pastime.

A special conversation with modeler William Adair takes center stage as he shares his journey from teenage kit building to scratch-building 1:144 scale pre-World War I and World War I aircraft. William dives into the challenges and rewards of creating such detailed models, offering insights into his unique career and the skills he has developed along the way. From mastering magnification and wing detail to creating custom decals and using them as construction materials, this episode promises a comprehensive and enriching experience for all model enthusiasts.

PMM Totally Massive Modelsphere: June 2024

vendredi 7 juin 2024Durée 01:03:29

Discover the irreplaceable blend of creativity and camaraderie that makes Wonderfest in Louisville, Kentucky, truly unforgettable. Join us on this special edition of the 12-Minute Model Sphere, now temporarily transformed into the "Totally Massive Model Sphere," as we recount our exhilarating experiences at the event. We had the chance to meet Canadian modeling celebrity Anthony Goodman, who dazzled us with his first-ever seminar at Wonderfest. We'll share our reflections on the event's evolution, its significance in the modeling world, and the impressive displays that captured our imaginations.

What happens when sci-fi modelers from across the globe come together for one epic gathering? We explore the unique bond among modelers, recounting heartwarming stories of road trips, friendships, and the thrill of seeing one's work appreciated by peers. We'll spotlight exceptional talents like Jason Eaton and discuss the fascinating techniques used for weathering both traditional aircraft and fictional spacecraft. Plus, we share practical tips on maintaining a dust-free workspace and conquering the dreaded "Shelf of Doom."

Finally, get an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the magic of model-making. From the pioneering efforts of Millicent Patrick to navigating the complexities of licensing agreements for iconic franchises, this episode is packed with inspiring stories. Hear from industry experts Bruce McRae and Jeff Groves as they offer their unique perspectives and celebrate the growth of our dojo community. We wrap up by encouraging everyone to share their completed models proudly, reminding our listeners of the endless creative possibilities that lie ahead.
