Part 2 - 'If it doesn't challenge you it won't change you'
dimanche 16 juillet 2023 • Durée 33:09
In this podcast, Julia and Anadi explore further the idea :
'If it doesn't challenge you, it won't change you' ...
They discuss whether in being outside our comfort zone, we can discover inner strengths and attain skills we didn't know we were capable of.
Julia and Anadi also investigate resilience and explore how this aspect can be developed to enable us to discover and enjoy new experiences, and suggest that without resilience we may never have 'follow through' and so gain the benefits the challenges, and being 'outside our comfort zone' might bring.

dimanche 9 avril 2023 • Durée 01:05:07

'A delightful blend of TED, comedy and radio 4 - sort of'!
The Bavard Bars opened its doors in March 2017 and has grown in popularity exponentially.
It 'happens' in the Towner gallery in Eastbourne on the 2nd Wednesday of each month; and in the Kino- Teatr in St Leonards on the 3rd Wednesday of every month...
In this podcast Tim talks about his journey from Lawyer to his life now, on stage as a compere and comedian...
He also tells us of his love of the outdoors and how it has always been linked to his deepest desire to know himself and to live fully in a way he recognised as a teenager...
Here is the poem that Tim wrote at 16 years old, mentioned in the podcast
The Hour Glass of Life
The sand falls fast, in the hour glass
For the balding man about town.
His youthful grin, his middle aged chin,
Are replaced with a nod and a frown.
He has searched for the meaning of life,
In a video, TV and wife.
He has climbed the rungs of success,
And always gave of his best.
But the sand falls faster now,
And still he struggles on,
Until his pills or his iron will,
Or his Ford Cortina are gone.
And what use is that video now,
And by how much is he cleverer,
Than the farmer’s wife, the miner’s son
Or death, the perfect leveller?

Her work records the process of looking, crossing through time and space, drawing on memory and history.
“I like to bring things alive through my creative practice, animating objects and spaces. My eyes reach out like an octopus’s tentacles, my hands and body follow, with gesture and movement, leaving traces of this experience of looking as marks on the page. Observation, sound and touch help me feel present, anchoring me in a place from where I can dream.”
Katie is currently exploring meditation through drawing.

Anadi James in Conversation with Julia Chi about intentional dialogue as the bedrock to relating consciously
dimanche 26 mars 2023 • Durée 30:53
In this podcast Julia has a conversation with her husband Anadi about being conscious in relating, with the bedrock of this being Intentional Dialogue.
Intentional Dialogue which was created by Harville Hendrix and Helen Hunt to help couple relate consciously.
Intentional dialogue keeps the space clean and clear between anyone in a conversation
We often don’t realise how little we are listening to our partner, children, friends or colleagues but are listening instead to our own internal response.
We need to fully hear the message a person is sending so that they will feel deeply heard.
The realisation that you accurately understand someone is wonderful for them and a growth experience for you, even if you do not agree with them!
One of the most effective forms of healing communication between persons in any intimate relationship, or in fact in any relationship is the intentional dialogue.
It consists of three steps: mirroring, validation, and empathy.
Practicing these steps will feel awkward at first as well as difficult. But as you practice, the lines between each step slowly dissolve and you move from practicing dialogical to it becoming a natural way of communicating.
Dialogue helps us understand the unique inner world of the person you are in dialogue with. We learn to see how their world works for them and so create and maintain connection, rather than misunderstanding each other or in conflict.
