In the series premiere, we meet our narrator, Terrance Woodridge, who brings us a tale he’s chased down: the story of Sugar Maple, the guitar of legend with a timeless sound that's passed from hand to hand over the years.
In this episode, we go back to 1951 and hear the story of "Sweet Licks" Bobby Lindro, an orphan from the farmlands outside Chicago. Sugar Maple is presented by Osiris Media. Be sure to listen to the premiere of the song from this episode, Brimstone Lampfire, on March 15, wherever you listen to music. Drew Holcomb
Saison 2 · Épisode 10
mardi 22 décembre 2020 • Durée 49:17
This week’s Past, Present, Future, Live! features an intimate conversation and performance with Drew Holcomb, songwriter and frontman for Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors. Born and raised in Memphis, Drew built a committed following through years of touring a circuit of the South’s major cities, and watched the gigs grow larger with each return trip. In 2011, Drew and the band earned wider recognition when his song “Live Forever” was featured in multiple TV shows, breaking through and establishing Drew as one of the faces of the new Americana scene. Drew has a thoughtful and academic approach to music—he has a Masters in Theology where his thesis explored Bruce Springsteen—and this comes through in his music, which Drew describes as the place he found the sort of meaning others find through religion.
Drew just released a new live album, “Live at the Tennessee Theatre,” that captures highlights of a standout performance from their last tour before quarantine, in support of the 2019 album “Dragons.” The first song off of Dragons, “Family,” is an ode to how Drew’s own experience as one of 28 grandkids continues to define him as an artist and a father.
On this episode Drew discusses all of that and more, including his incredible relationship with his wife and longtime musical collaborator Ellie, and how he’s grown to appreciate managing the business side of his music.
At the end of the episode, you’ll hear Drew play “American Beauty”, “Family”, and “Dragons”. You can see videos of these and all other Past, Present, Future, Live! performances on our show page and on the Osiris Media YouTube Channel.

Joey Burns
Saison 2 · Épisode 7
mardi 8 décembre 2020 • Durée 59:23
This week on Past, Present, Future, Live! we bring you a conversation and performance with Joey Burns of Calexico. Over the past 20 plus years Calexico has blended Tex-Mex, indie rock, jazz, surf and other influences to create a unique sound sometimes called “desert noir.”
Joey and his longtime bandmate John Convertino first broke through with “The Black Light” in 1998, and were soon on tour with Pavement and other heroes of theirs. Since then they’ve made more than a dozen albums with collaborators from across the globe including two albums with Sam Beam of Iron and Wine, most recently with 2019’s “Years to Burn”, which was nominated for two Grammys.
Joey explains how he and John started out just messing around together in a house full of instruments, how their sound continues to evolve, and what travel adds to his experience as a songwriter and composer.

Jessica Dobson
Saison 2 · Épisode 6
mardi 1 décembre 2020 • Durée 57:10
This week’s episode of Past, Present, Future, Live! features a conversation and performance with guitarist Jessica Dobson of Deep Sea Diver.
Jessica grew up around California’s indie rock scene and got signed to Atlantic Records as a solo act at age 19 before playing guitar with Beck, Spoon, The Shins, and many other groups. Jessica’s fierce guitar playing, which was her calling card with all of these bands, became even more of a focus with the formation of her band Deep Sea Diver.
Her most recent album, “Impossible Weight," came out in October, and features Sharon Van Etten on the title track. Jessica produced the record, and on the episode she talks about the difference between producing and playing, the evolution of her guitar playing, and the serendipity of working with Sharon Van Etten. Jessica also shares what she learned from Beck and James Mercer of The Shins before she struck out on her own, and the advice she often imparts to young musicians looking for their break.
After the interview, you can hear Jessica performing “Impossible Weight”, “Keep It Moving” and “Wearing Thin.” Videos of these and all Past, Present, Future, Live! performances are on the show page and on the Osiris Media Youtube Channel.

Larkin Poe
Saison 2 · Épisode 5
mardi 24 novembre 2020 • Durée 58:17
“I think the choices that we've made in terms of genre have really been bent towards leveling a playing field. Because at a certain point you realize the number of female artists you can listen to in the rock sphere, especially the classic rock sphere, are so limited...So I know that had to be a driving factor for us; wanting to prove people wrong, to do something that felt a little bit incongruous." --Rebecca Lovell
Rebecca and Megan Lovell, the incredibly talented sisters behind Larkin Poe, join RJ to talk about their musical evolution, from their early years as classical violinists to discovering classic rock in their teens, to forming the band and producing their own albums. They discuss what it was like to play their first ‘plugged in show’ (terrifying) and tour with some of their musical heroes, and how they’re changing the status quo for women in music.
At the end of the episode, you’ll hear them perform “Who Do You Love”, “She's A Self Made Man”, and “Holy Ghost Fire.”
Larkin Poe’s latest release, Kindred Spirits, is available everywhere.
You'll find music from all the artists mentioned in this interview on the Past, Present, Future, Live! Larkin Poe Spotify playlist.

MC Taylor
Saison 2 · Épisode 4
mardi 17 novembre 2020 • Durée 58:47
I wasn't doing it to make money. Money would have been nice, but that was nowhere close to my priority list. What I was trying to do was get inside the way that the music that I love works.
- MC Taylor
This week, we bring you an interview with MC Taylor of Hiss Golden Messenger. MC tells RJ about the transformation he underwent when he was writing music in North Carolina and forming his band, Hiss Golden Messenger. The two talk about writing for his kids, which you’ll hear reflected in the tunes he plays after the interview, and why one of his biggest releases to date was initially a disappointment.
After the interview, you’ll hear MC perform Drum, Biloxi, and Happy Birthday, Baby.
You'll find music from all the artists mentioned in this interview on our Past, Present, Future, Live! Spotify playlist.

Nicole Atkins
Saison 2 · Épisode 3
mardi 10 novembre 2020 • Durée 59:35
“I feel like I’m kind of a collector, you know? I kind of go about my life and pick up all the things I like and then when the box becomes full, I combine all of those things in the box and make that my thing.” - Nicole Atkins
Throughout her career, Nicole Atkins’ musical approach has combined 50s-style crooning with psychedelia, soul, and 80’s punk, all of which help to create her truly unique sound. In this episode, she tells us about her writing process, the evolution of her sound, and what happened when Rick Rubin altered the course of her debut album, Neptune City. Nicole tells RJ about a life-altering moment when she ended up on stage with Donny and Marie, and explains why her latest album, Italian Ice, is an ode to summertime in New Jersey boardwalk towns.
At the end of the episode, you’ll hear Nicole perform stunning versions of her songs Forever, Captain and Mind Eraser.
Listeners of this show know that you can see performances videos from all of our Past, Present, Future, Live guests—but Nicole’s videos are gorgeous. You can watch the performance from the episode on the Osiris YouTube page and on the Osiris website.
