Taylor takes us back to East of West Vol 1 (which Todd has also read) -- the already-classic alternative future, apocalyptic, western sci-fi by Jonathan Hickman and Nick Dragotta. 25 Apr 2018#67 - The Vision - Director's Cut01:21:02

Todd and Taylor welcome a special guest, Drew Huddleston, to discuss a book he recommended they read, The Vision by Tom King and Gabriel Walta. The episode is more of a book club than our usual show. As such, we run a little long. We think this book is so great that we didn't want to spoil anyone's experience so we divided the episode into halves. Those who haven't read the book can listen to the first half and return for the second half of the discussion after finishing.

We're back to our usual format this week. Todd and Taylor convene to talk tea / coffee and comic books. Todd is still on an Avengers kick and discusses The Unworthy Thor. Taylor is still on a Jonathan Hickman kick and brings The Manhattan Projects -- a conspiracy-heavy series that he knows Todd will run out to read.

23 May 2018#71 - Batman: White Knight00:55:07
It's the White Knight episode. You may have heard Todd or Taylor (or both) gush about this over the past 8 months. The series is concluded so we dedicated the episode to discussing it all. Best Batman book ever? No spoilers so feel free to listen while you're downloading the issues to read immediately.

13 Jun 2018#73 - Betty and Veronica / He-Man: Eternity War01:02:35
Todd and Taylor go off their well-worn paths of both indie books and superhero books this week. Todd talks about Betty and Veronica written and drawn by an artist he loves, Adam Hughes. Taylor choose He-Man (Masters of the Universe): Eternity War -- the refresh of a comic book he grew up reading. Join them as they discuss these books and the coffee they're drinking.

20 Jun 2018#74 - The Rose Tico Test01:15:34
It's a special episode of Coffee & Comics today. After we catch up about single issue comics we're reading and Solo and Incredibles 2, we jump into a topic that we've discussed off air a lot: how fandom responds to soft power in a male space. Our example for this is the vitriol directed at the lovely Kelly Marie Tran over her depiction of Rose Tico in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

27 Jun 2018#75 - The Tipping Point / Henry and Glenn Forever00:38:52

Todd and Taylor get off the big two bandwagon this week and pick a couple of obscure indie titles, neither of which is a complete story. Taylor talks about The Tipping Point from European publisher, Humanoids. He thinks it is a good read for anyone interested in art, poetry, great stories who wants to get into comics and see what is possible in the medium. Todd goes the other way and talks about the hilariously weird Henry and Glenn Forever. Well, hilarious if you know the music of Henry Rollins and Glenn Danzig and want to see what it would be like if they were romantic partners who lived next door to the famous Satanists, Hall and Oates.

04 Jul 2018#76 - The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl / San Hannibal00:49:47

Taylor is getting married! Just like Batman. So Todd is joined in the studio by comics writer, artist, editor, publisher, PJ Perez. PJ talks about The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl Beats Up the Marvel Universe. If you haven't read any Squirrel Girl yet, do yourself a favor and check it out. This book sounds like a great place to start if you love awesome art, clever writing, and poking fun and too serious superheroes. Todd plays "Gotcha" with PJ and surprises him with his pick, San Hannibal, a book PJ edited and published. This dark detective story involving a secretive club of millionaires involved in a sex trafficking operation would be noir if it weren't for its electric color palette. Google "San Hannibal" for some swatches and then pick up the book on Comixology, Amazon, or PJ's own Pop Goes The Icon.

11 Jul 2018#77 - Punk Rock Jesus00:37:27

It is another special episode this week as Taylor is on his honeymoon. Todd is joined by Lainey (@sweetheartcyanide) from his local comic book shop to talk about Punk Rock Jesus by Sean Murphy. It's a graphic novel with complicated characters and a fascinating premise: what if Jesus were cloned from DNA on the Shroud of Turin and his entire life were a reality show? The novel takes some really unexpected turns as it explores this premise. Todd and Lainey try not to spoil anything while taking a deeper look at the themes. Join us for the conversation.

05 Sep 2018#83 - The Ultimates #2 / The Last Policeman00:41:51
It's an "unusual" week (as if we have a usual) in that Taylor chooses a single issue of a comic to discuss and Todd chooses a novel. Taylor talks about The Ulitmates #2 from 2015 which features an interesting Galactus origin story. Todd talks about the novel, The Last Policeman, by Ben Winters -- a novel about a detective trying to solve a murder when the entire world knows an asteroid will strike in 6 months and change life as they know it.

12 Sep 2018#84 - Solid State / Chaotic Good01:18:05
It's another "unusual" episode. Taylor discusses Solid State -- a graphic novel imagined by Jonathan Coulton based on his concept album, written by Matt Fraction and illustrated by Albert Monteys. Dystopia or just absurdity? It's a weird and sometimes chilling look at the future. Then Todd talks about the YA novel Chaotic Good by Whitney Gardner. D&D, cosplay, conventions, trolls, bullies, LGBTQ+ issues -- this story has a lot of layers.

03 Oct 2018#86 - Neil Young's Green Dale00:28:51
New name, new format for the old Coffee and Comics Club. We liked that name but we had some competition. We're introducing a new name with this episode and a new format. We each talk about one comic but we are publishing those chats as separate episodes. The result is a shorter episode length and the ability for you to quickly find an episode you might like. Today, Taylor talks about the graphic novel based on Neil Young's concept album, Green Dale. Let us know how you like the new stuff at http://findusthere.org.

Welcome to the 2nd episode of Panelism (or 87th episode from Todd and Taylor). Today, Todd talks about Chelsea Cain's Mockingbird run. It was a great concept for a B-lister in the Marvel Universe (Mockingbird, not Chelsea) that was cancelled too soon. Todd discusses both volumes that exist.

17 Oct 2018#88 - Domino 201800:39:21
On this episode of Panelism, Todd talks about Domino (2018) by Gail Simone and David Baldeon. It's a cool take on a b-lister character with old and new characters and plenty of snappy dialogue.

On this episode of Panelism, Taylor talks about Local from Oni Press. It's a Bildungsroman about a young woman named Megan told in 12 chapters (originally single issues). In stunning black and white images, the artwork alone is worth a look.

02 Nov 2018#90 - Harrow County Vol 1: Countless Haints00:34:42
This episode would have been so much more impactful if I had my act together and posted it on Halloween. That's on me. Anyway, here is our Halloween episode. Todd talks about Harrow County Vol 1: Countless Haints. This is a great read for fans of Stranger Things or the X-Files but it will definitely leave you wanting more. It's the story of a young woman discovering her connection to an ancient, cursed magic.

08 Nov 2018#91 - Infidel00:30:45
We posted this a week ahead of time so we don't know if today's pick is made more terrifying by the outcome of the midterm elections. Taylor talks about Infidel--a horror story that's also an allegory about racism and xenophobia.

21 Nov 2018#93 - Analog00:35:12
Taylor brings Analog from Image Comics to the chat today. It's a current book whose story is based in 2024. In that near future, everyone in the world has been mass-doxxed. With digital privacy done for, the people who can afford it employ "Paper Jockeys" to transport valuable information via analog means.

28 Nov 2018#94 - Just Imagine Stan Lee's Catwoman00:39:49
Todd brings a real throwback oddity this week. It's called "Just Imagine...Stan Lee's Catwoman." Published by DC in 2002, it was part of a 13 issue Just Imagine series in which Stan Lee rewrote the origins and characters of classic DC characters. Todd and Taylor tell the story of Stan Lee's post-Marvel years and this weird comic.

12 Dec 2018#96 - The Unstoppable Wasp00:44:35
Todd got so into Volume 1 of The Unstoppable Wasp that he immediately read Volume 2. He talks about them both here. It's a cool pair of books for those who liked Mockingbird and Batgirl of Burnside. Todd also lets us know his feelings about the Civil War II crossover issue that appears at the end of Volume 1 to totally interrupt the flow of the book. He really isn't happy about that. Like 10 minutes of unhappy.

19 Dec 2018#97 - Before Watchmen: Ozymandias00:40:27

Taylor talks about the prequel we were all waiting for (were we?): Before Watchmen. And specifically, Ozymandias. Written by legend Len Wein and illustrated by the brilliant Jae Lee, Ozymandias is the best of the Before Watchmen bunch. Fans of Watchmen or Batman: Year One might want to check this one out.

26 Dec 2018#98 - Cannon God Exaxxion Stage 100:42:56

Todd talks about Kenichi Sonoda's Cannon God Exaxxion, the follow-up series to Sonoda's Gunsmith Cats which has always been a favorite. Re-reading Cannon God has Todd wondering if Gunsmith Cats is as problematic. It's an interesting episode as Todd has to re-examine a creator he's always thought highly of and arrives at the conclusion that you don't need this book on your shelf.
