#2-Jake Stachovak - the 5,740 mile Great Loop Portage to Portage Paddling Project24 Feb 202001:01:50

Beginning in early December 2009, Jake Stachovak (Sta-ho-vi-ack) put in on the icy Wisconsin River in Portage, WI to begin his long-time dream trip.  The spirit of this trip was as much about the people as it was about the miles and miles of water.  The idea was to show everyone the kind of adventure they can find right in their back yard, and to share in that adventure as much as possible.

A special shout-out from Jake to Chad Pegracke and Living Lands & Waters. Check out the work they're doing to preserve the Mississippi and other waterways. Also, a big thanks to California Kayak Friends for sharing knowledge and instilling a love of endurance paddling.

#106 - Tom Daly - The first Ireland solo that almost got him kicked out of canoeing12 Feb 202400:47:04

Tom Daly completed the first solo Ireland circumnavigation by kayak in 1979. In today's episode, we talk about the adventure itself, the gear, the freedom, and how this trip almost got him kicked out of the sport.

It was a far different time. Certainly simpler than today’s social media fueled expeditions. It’s an interesting comparison. It doesn't make one better than the other…just different. And I think the Irish Canoe Union’s position is different on solos now too.

Following that solo, Tom has continued growth in sports to become one of the world’s most accomplished masters cyclists and ultra endurance cyclist, coach, and researcher on physiological adaptation to training in older athletes.
