Fireside Chat with Josh and Kevin

Épisode 174

jeudi 14 novembre 2024Durée 01:16:45

This week Josh and Kevin sit down for a fireside chat. We start off discussing a little bit about the seasons, archery and rifle, and what cartridges are popular (meaning sales that Kevin has seen at his shop) specifically in terms of the .450 bushmaster and .350 legend for the limited rifle zone, where he has not seen a demand so far for the newer cartridges, the .350 seems to be leading the pack. We then get into discussing a bit about reloading, how small mistakes in terms of powder and failure to follow the manuals or other established data can be disastrous, we also talk a little about the differences between black powder and smokeless powder. Then we discuss Joshs most recent archery hunting experiences. The highs and lows, time at the new family cabin, and the value of having family together in a hunt camp. And to end we talk about the ATC charity event a bit and plans for the upcoming rifle season. Gen 1 Predator Hunters- Kyle Dupuis

Épisode 165

jeudi 29 août 2024Durée 01:25:54

This week, Kevin and Josh welcome Kyle Dupuis to the show. Kyle, a fellow Michigan hunter, actually asked about doing a podcast with a 1st generation predator hunter, it sounded like a good conversation so we made it happen. Kyle talks to us about his upbringing in hunting and the outdoors, including telling us about his grandma who was the known deer hunter in the family. We talk a bit about predator hunting around the country, how Michigan differs from out west or down south, mainly population and terrain. We discuss who we learned from, the shows we watched, and articles we read to get the info that is now very prevalent. And talk about why you don't see many if any predator hunting shows filmed here. We touch on quite a few facets including how he got into predator hunting, his progression in the sport, knowledge, tactics and equipment. Starting with a .22wmr rifle, hunting during the daylight only, to today's set up of thermal optics and everything in between like lights and night vision. We discuss how family and friends react to finding out about predator hunting, each of us talk about that, and specifically some of the stuff we have heard, like "I can't believe there are that many around" to "what do you DO with them" We talk about the community, and how we have all made some really good friends in our quest for knowledge, entering competitions, and sharing stories with other like minded hunters. And we finish with a little technical talk about Kyle's' experiences with the new .22 ARC both factory and reloading Follow along with Kyle at the Death After Darc facebook page! Rutcation Report 11-2-2022

Épisode 74

jeudi 3 novembre 2022Durée 21:32

Mike Luttrull joins me tonight to talk about tomorrows plans. Wednesday November 2 was a much better day in the woods. The deer were active and the bucks were out looking, however I was mainly on a mission to SEE a shooter buck so I could move in on the next attempt. It worked, as I was able to lay eyes on one I would gladly bring home to the family at around 10:45, cruising the edge of a small field 3 other bucks had been in earlier in the morning. We laid eyes on a giant on the way home at 12:30, however we need a day of scouting to figure out the piece of property before we just blow in and ruin our chances before the day even begins. Mike will be joining me for the morning hunt and he is looking to fill the freezer, so we are hopeful that the deer will be moving again tomorrow. Temps are extremely high for typical November weather, but I don't think the deer care about the temps that much right now. Thank you all so much for listening and check back again tomorrow for the next update! Predator Hunter Outdoors HuntWise ORC Archery SiOnyx

Rutcation Report 11-1-22

Épisode 73

mercredi 2 novembre 2022Durée 26:45

I was able to be in a tree 3 times the last 36 hours. Halloween morning as well as the entire day of November 1st. I find myself struggling chasing trail cameras and scouting less, but I need to make a change to that system. I know where some doe have been using every morning, and I have tried to use that to my advantage, but a mistake in my setup in the morning of Nov 1 may have ruined my chance at a solid buck, but we will never know. Scrape activity the last 2 days has appeared to drop, deer are still crossing by them but not re opening them. Did hear some chasing tonight right at last light, and had one come in as I was packing up my gear after the hunt, but I don't know what it was. Tomorrow I think will be the coldest morning all week, so I may be packing a lunch and sitting later depending on movement I have seen. I plan to go hunt another section where I do have cameras, but won't be near them so I can break my bad habit. I know there are deer in this section but I haven't narrowed them down yet. I guess that is the story of all the spots I hunt though. I will check in again tomorrow night, unless something keeps me out extra late! Thank you all for listening! Épisode 72

lundi 31 octobre 2022Durée 15:58

Todays rutcation report shows a little better movement, but not from the bigger bucks. Scrapes showed less activity today but the little bucks were chasing pretty decent in the evening. Still seeing a few doe out feeding without being harassed. Still hearing reports around the state of good bucks being taken while chasing doe, but I believe we are still a few days from the really good stuff. Thank you all so much for taking the time to listen! Please make sure to check out Predator Hunter Outdoors, HuntWise, ORC Archery and SiOnyx

dimanche 30 octobre 2022Durée 15:32

Rutcation report 10-29-22 Very little activity for us today, we did see a small buck chasing 2 doe around at 10:45 am and I saw 1 doe by herself at 7:55. Scrapes were active overnight, but none were active today in daylight. Multiple reports of bucks chasing hard around the state and some very nice deer being taken. Finished the day butchering and canning Thursday nights doe. Thank you all for listening! I hope you enjoy your time in the outdoors! Predator Hunter Outdoors HuntWise ORC Archery SiOnyx
