A Racket Down Unda' (2024 Australian Open Recap)

Saison 1 · Épisode 7

jeudi 8 février 2024Durée 01:10:32

Welcome to the 2024 Australian Open Wrap-Up, where we're taking a swing at all the happenings Down Unda!

Aryna Sabalenka was on a mission, which  fueled her success to the finish line.  Jannik Sinner's comeback to win the final was a masterclass in composure and self-belief, proving that tennis is as much a mental game as it is physical.

In a surprising twist, Rohan Bopanna danced into the record books as the oldest number one doubles Grand Slam winner at the ripe age of 43. Who says age slows you down in tennis?

However, it wasn't all sunshine and lighthearted banter. Controversies stole the spotlight. The ATP faced criticism (not only by us) for its unclear policies and lack of accountability in handling domestic violence and sexual assault investigations.

So, what's the solution? We're calling for external investigations and independent oversight to ensure a fair and just playing field. It's time for players, fans, and organizations to team up for accountability.

Stay tuned for more court-side antics and serious discussions as we call for tennis to DO BETTER.

Australian Open Mid-Tourney OFF COURT Kiki (Part 2 of 2)

Saison 1 · Épisode 6

vendredi 26 janvier 2024Durée 46:20

Welcome to the Mid-Tournament Kiki, where we dive into the OFF-COURT drama 🎾 In this wild ride through the first week, we're breaking down the game, the set, and the match of tennis controversies. Get ready for all the plot twists, folks!

We're talking about everything from gendered expectations in tennis to the unexpected rise of Nick Kyrgios as a commentator. Forget forehands and backhands; we're serving up questions about accountability and the glorification of 'bad boys' in the sport.

Allegations against Alexander Zverev are causing us to question the ATP's playbook on domestic violence.

And speaking of unexpected doubles, Rafael Nadal and Ons Jabeur as ambassadors for Saudi tennis? It's like they've entered the world of tennis diplomacy, and we're here to dissect it all. Sports washing, nationalism, and flag fiascos - we're diving into the murky waters of controversy.

Ever wondered WTF with all the flags in tennis? Yeah, us too! It's like trying to figure out the secret sauce in a grandma's recipe - mysterious and sometimes confusing.

We're tackling the serious stuff with a sprinkle of humor. So buckle up, listeners, because this podcast is a rollercoaster ride through the tennis world's backstage drama. Off-court antics, on-point humor – the Mid-Tournament Kiki has it all! 🚀🎤

Australian Open Mid-Tourney ON-COURT Kiki (Part 1 of 2)

Saison 1 · Épisode 5

vendredi 26 janvier 2024Durée 57:48

Welcome to the Mid-Tournament Kiki, where we spill the tea hotter than a malfunctioning ball machine! 🎾💥 This week on the courts, the women's side is serving up so many surprises, with teenage players rising faster than my anxiety during a match point. Coco Gauff and Aryna Sabalenka are sailing through and looking fierce.

On the men's side, Novak Djokovic is not just chasing the ball; he's chasing his 25th Grand Slam win like it's the last slice of pizza at a tennis-themed pizza party.

Meanwhile, the comebacks of Naomi Osaka, Emma Radicanu, and Rafa Nadal are as unpredictable as a bouncing tennis ball on a clay court.

Day five of the tournament was wilder than a kangaroo on a pogo stick, featuring OMG moments that left us gasping like we just hit an unexpected drop shot. And did we mention the longest tie break in Grand Slam history?

But wait, there's more! Upsets have hit harder than a tennis ball to the face, with Iga Swiatek and Elina Svitolina making an early exit. It's like the tournament turned into a reality show where no one saw the plot twist coming.

And let's not forget about those gendered expectations. Women tennis players are not just athletes; they're expected to be superhuman multitaskers, balancing motherhood and acing serves. It's like they're playing tennis with a baby strapped to their back. Can we give them a break and let them focus on winning without juggling diapers?

So grab your popcorn, folks, because the Mid-Tournament Kiki is where tennis and comedy collide – no racquets were harmed in the making of this podcast, we promise! 🎾🤣
