Poem, "A Cowboy's Christmas Eve"

In this episode OHR was able to visit with rancher Mike Stokley, owner/operator of Big Creek Land and Livestock and Big Creek Beef, located in Paris and Winchester, KY.  

Mike discusses how he and wife Christine, manage their cow/calf operation, ranch horse operation, and their custom beef business.  Mike talks nutrition and the best practices that has done well with his beef cattle operation.  Mike states that having a strong forage program and making sure you manage your cattle nutrition needs in winter months is key to sustainability.

Mike also discusses how he and Christine offer special events on their ranch as well as their offering of Big Creek custom beef, a program that is serving their community quite well!

OHR sits down with Micah Thomas, Purina Production Specialist, based in Kentucky. Micah discusses with OHR the "must do's" to keep cattle and calves in healthy condition right now and for the winter months to come, making sure we understand the value of winter supplementation.  Micah also gives the value of not cheating on your mineral use! 

On this episode of Out Here Ranching, we sit down and have a discussion with Corteva Agriscience Range and Pasture Specialist, Clay Williams.  Clay is a graduate of University of Georgia and covers the states of GA, SC, NC, and VA.  

Clay discusses what ranchers can being be doing right now to prepare their grazing pastures and even their hay fields.  Clay discusses some key driver weeds that are typically an issues come spring but are up and growing in the fall time.  Clay also discusses the new program of Dry Fertilize Impregnation (DFI) where the rancher or hay producer can feed their forages and kill weeds at the same time.
