September Release Round-Up: 'The Woman King,' 'Don't Worry Darling,' and More!
Saison 3 · Épisode 24
vendredi 30 septembre 2022 • Durée 01:03:10
Some of the big fall festival premieres look to dazzle audiences as they hit a wide release this month. Reactions on the first movie that Nick and Sophia discuss, ‘The Woman King,’ are overwhelmingly positive and consistent with its A+ CinemaScore. Gina Prince-Bythewood delivers an epic warrior drama with Viola Davis at the helm and one that has already garnered great awards potential (3:37).
Next is a movie that, due to a magnetic press release, needs no introduction: ‘Don’t Worry Darling.’ After sharing their general reactions to the film (24:34), they dive into spoilers and try to make sense of that third act surprise (29:42).
Stay tuned for reactions to other fun releases, from Netflix’s 80’s high school dramedy with a Gen Z twist, ‘Do Revenge,’ to others that are gearing up for quite a spooky October: ‘Barbarian,’ ‘Pearl,’ ‘Resurrection,’ and ‘Speak No Evil’ (52:26).

A kid in a red hoodie, a flying bike, and an alien pointing, repeating, “Phone home.” Forty years later, even just these three images conjure up shots from the instantly recognizable, ‘E.T.’ This week, Sophia and Nick celebrate this successful film’s anniversary and consider why, as one of Steven Spielberg’s most successful films, it deserves to be called an enduring classic. After discussing the history behind production, what makes the movie special to them, and some favorite scenes and performances, they debate if its performance at The Oscars should have gone differently, including any snubs they think it should have received (29:29).

They Won for That? Roger Deakins (Blade Runner 2049 and 1917)
Saison 3 · Épisode 18
vendredi 19 août 2022 • Durée 46:30
On a new installment of their ‘They Won For That?’ series, Nick and Sophia dive into a new category to talk about one of the best working cinematographers today, Roger Deakins. Before discussing his two Oscar wins, they talk about his style, thirteen other nominations, and notable works they think he should’ve been up for. Then, they wonder why it took him so long to grab that Oscar gold for ‘Blade Runner 2049’ and ‘1917’ (12:12). Lastly, would they swap either of these wins out or give him other deserved accolades? Nicole would surely agree that these other picks truly are dazzling images on a huge silver screen (28:59).
