073. Done with Decluttering? Curate What Matters for a Lasting Legacy26 Aug 202500:25:42

Decluttering doesn’t have to feel like scrubbing the toilet.

What if instead of dragging yourself through organizing projects, you reframed it as curating your life?

In this episode of Organizing for Beautiful Living, we’re trading burnout for intention. I’ll guide you through a mindset shift that transforms decluttering from a chore into something meaningful — curating your legacy.

We’ll walk through four key areas of your home and life, with simple rhythms and unfussy upgrades that make your space lighter and your story clearer — without overwhelm or perfection.

What You’ll Learn:

  • The “Curate Your Legacy” mindset shift that makes decluttering easier — and way more joyful
  • 🧺 3 simple weekly habits that keep your home light, curated, and calm
  • 🧥 How to define your “Signature 20” in your closet
  • 🔪 Why choosing just one amazing kitchen tool can simplify your whole day
  • 📸 How to organize paper, photos & kids’ keepsakes with legacy in mind
  • 💾 How to create digital systems your future self will actually thank you for
  • ❤️ What to do with gifts, inherited items, and those things from a “past life stage”

🧘‍♀️ Unfussy Organizer Tip:

Decluttering is a million tiny decisions. But when you curate your legacy, you only need to ask one powerful question: Does this deserve to be part of my story?

072. Win Your Morning: 6 Simple Habits That Make the Whole Day Easier19 Aug 202500:17:44

Early alarms + school rush don’t have to mean foggy, frantic mornings. In this episode, I'm sharing the six small “levers” that reliably flip my mornings from groggy to calm and focused—no perfection required.

You’ll learn how to:

  • 📵 Phone fast for 10–15 minutes to protect your attention and stop the doom-scroll before it starts
  • 🧭 Use a simple Get-Going habit (coffee, unload the dishwasher, feed the dog) to beat sleep inertia and start your “target behavior”
  • ☀️ Get natural light ASAP to reset your clock (even 5–10 minutes helps)
  • 🏃‍♀️ Move a little (walk the dog, stretch, a few squats) to lift mood and energy
  • 🧒 Set a positive tone with kid checklists so you’re not the household reminder system
  • 😴 Prioritize sleep (and ditch the snooze button) so everything else gets easier

Here's what you can try this week:

Pick any two levers (e.g., phone fast + light) and run them for 7 days. Let tiny wins stack.

071. Simple Routines for an Unrushed, Low-Stress Fall12 Aug 202500:14:16

Fall is creeping in—school forms, Q4 chatter, and (somehow) Halloween candy in August. If you’re feeling pushed forward in time, this episode brings you back to center with two grounding routines and a few mindset helpers so you can savor the season instead of sprinting through it.

We’ll look at:

  • the 12-Week Year approach to calm goal-setting (four mini “years” = fewer last-minute scrambles),
  • micro-decluttering (tiny, sustainable edits over heroic overhaul days),
  • and simple “anchoring adventures” that help you actually experience this season—at home, at work, and with your people.

You’ll learn:

✅ How to treat fall as its own 12-week “year” (and add one personal goal on purpose)

✅ A micro-declutter routine you can keep up (inspired by the Washington Post’s low-lift challenge)

✅ Why the viral “poop rule” gets clicks—and what actually lasts for busy families

✅ How to plan one big adventure/year, one monthly outing, and one mini at-home moment each week

✅ A low-stress way to steady your work life (coffee chats, small wins, and weekly “inside your role” mini-adventures)

✅ What to do when uncertainty hits (rescinded offers, lease panic, or the news): build routines that hold

Toy Organization for Small Spaces: Small-Space Hacks for Any Home29 Jul 202500:15:48

Tiny Boston apartment? Sprawling suburban playroom?  Either way, toy clutter can take over fast.  In this episode I tackle the real reason toys multiply (think “permission creep” and Parkinson’s Law) and I'll share five small-space principles inspired by families who thrive in 700-square-foot city flats—but that work just as well in a four-bedroom house.

You’ll learn

🔹 One-Shelf Rule – how giving each child a single shelf (or bin/closet) puts a hard boundary on toy volume

🔹 Rotate, Don’t Accumulate – the monthly swap-out system that keeps play fresh and curbs overflow

🔹 Multi-Purpose Zones – set up rolling carts & fold-away surfaces so living rooms can flip from Lego land to adult-ready in minutes

🔹 1-In 1-Out Habit – a micro-rule for birthdays and holidays that locks in balance automatically

🔹 Contain & Label Like a Pro – nesting, picture labels, and under-bed bins that make cleanup intuitive for kids (and guests)

A gentle challenge for you:

Decide today which single shelf, drawer, or cubby will be each child’s toy “home base.”  Just pick the space—nothing more.  Tomorrow, start filling it intentionally and experience how fast visual calm returns.

068. Lost Your Routines? Two Easy Ways to Re-Ground Your Home This July22 Jul 202500:15:05

When school ends and schedules go loosy-goosy, even the most organized households can start to feel wobbly. 😅

If July has you buried in pool towels, half-done projects, and that vague “I’m forgetting something…” feeling, today’s episode is your reset button.

I’m sharing two simple systems I rely on whenever life feels floaty:

  1. The Simple Single – how choosing one purposeful task a day brings instant focus (and why your brain loves it).
  2. Autopilot Routines – a step-by-step way to turn recurring chores into self-running habits so you’re not reinventing the wheel every week.

🎧 In this episode, you’ll learn:

🔹 Why summer’s lack of guardrails often triggers clutter

🔹 A brain-dump exercise that keeps you from spinning your wheels

🔹 How to triage your to-do list (delete and delegate) in minutes

🔹 The “Autopilot” template I use to schedule laundry, meals & errands (with plenty of wiggle room for spontaneous fun)

064. Raising Mini-Minimalists: How to Teach Kids the Art of Decluttering (So the Habit Actually Sticks)24 Jun 202500:16:41

Kids don’t learn “Stuff-Management 101” at school, yet the ability to sort, store, and let go of belongings is a genuine life skill. In today’s episode I’m sharing the 8 mindset shifts that turn kids into confident, clutter-busting pros, no matter how old they are.

In this episode you’ll learn:

  • The simple “Model Loudly” technique that shows kids how you make keep-toss decisions (and why narrating matters).

  • Ways to respect different attachment levels—so sentimental rock-collectors and mini-Marie Kondos can thrive in the same household.
  • The 5 Principles of Beautiful Living—and how linking each tidy-up to a bigger purpose helps habits stick for life.

056. Declutter Your Finances, with Bernadette Joy29 Apr 202500:44:23

Before you yawn and tune out because this episode is about finances, hold on!
Back in January, I attended a podcasting conference and met today’s guest, Bernadette Joy — a financial coach whose vibrant energy immediately drew me in. What blew me away was her fresh, no-nonsense approach to money: she teaches financial freedom the same way I teach home organization — through decluttering.

Bernadette is the author of Crush Your Money Goals, recently named one of Oprah's Top 10 Books for Personal Growth in 2025! She's also graced stages like South by Southwest, Nasdaq, FinCon, and TEDxHouston.

In this episode of Organizing for Beautiful Living, Bernadette shares:

  • Her personal story of tackling massive student loan debt ($72,000!) and paying it off in just two years.
  • How being the daughter of immigrants shaped her views on success — and why her dreams looked very different from her family's.
  • Why managing your money (like organizing your home) is about clarity, focus, and momentum — not perfection.
  • Her "CRUSH" Method for decluttering your finances sustainably and simply.
  • The mindset shifts that allowed her and her husband to "hack the system" and live rent-free — without giving up their freedom.

You'll walk away energized, hopeful, and armed with a practical plan to start organizing your money without getting overwhelmed.

Bernadette also has a free checklist to help you take the first steps toward financial freedom — grab it below.

I've got 10 hacks to streamline your Thanksgiving prep and the cleanup this week. These are hacks I use every time we have a big gathering at our house. Feel free to use these to simplify your hosting, no matter the size of your home, or the number of guests you've invited!

  1. In the kitchen, use command hooks to hang multiple kitchen towels.
  2. In small spaces, think vertically for your decor.
  3. In the days leading up to Thanksgiving, plan out your serving dishes and serving utensils in detail.
  4. Prep a dedicated beverage station
  5. Use your microwave as a proofing oven.
  6. Double your oven space with a toaster oven.
  7. Create a 'clean as you go' space.
  8. Chill salads and appetizers in the fridge overnight.
  9. Employ the slow cooker as a warming drawer.
  10. Ready the coolers.
